You dont flash bootanimation.zip, you place it in /system/media

Oh lol Thanks

still not working. Just get a black screen.

My guess is that you have your bootanimation folder within your bootanimation.zip. You should just have your part0 and the desc.txt in the bootanimation.zip (make sure it's zipped without any compression I.e. stored).
It could also be that you're using jpg. I've seen them work before, but sometimes they don't. I believe png is a little more standard. What's the ds_store?

I opened your zip and you had some weird stuff in there. I rezipped it. You also used jpg's. I always use a png. Anyhoo...here it is, rezipped. Try placing in your system/media folder and see what happens.

I just noticed that you had an extra folder there too. You should probably get rid of everything else (besides the part0 and desc.txt).

I just took the zip I posted and placed it properly...it works.
Enjoy!

Did you compress the zip? You have to create it as "store" files and not compress.
It should remain a zip file

Someone has been doing the work to port the animation to multiple devices. I haven't tried it to see if it works, but here's the link. He's taken out the Star Wars and Droid logo part.

bootanimation.zip links

Would be nice to have a local list of working boot animations here. I figured I'd throw a few out there that I've played with so far. It's a bit of a pain searching threads to find all of them, so if anyone knows of a good collection thread in another forum, a link would be great.
Android Scribble
Star Wars R2D2
Android BIOS Boot Animation
Good thread. I'm sure there's more. Please link!

Ok just go here for them. haha!

I wouldn't flash any of them. Make sure you only have the bootanimation.zip portion, and drop it in your system/media folder, replacing the existing one with it. I have a folder on my SDCard to store them by name, so I can copy and rename when I want.
How do you change the bootup sound? I went to data/local and didn't see anything there...what folder do you have to drop the mp3 in?

Find a wav file you see fitting for your bootup sound. Download it to your SD card. Rename the file "PowerOn.wav" (this can also be done in the next step). Use Root Explorer or what have you to copy it from your SD card and paste it into system\etc. Reboot and enjoy.
Love the Android Skribble, thanks for posting these.
i've been using this one:
halo reach auntie dot
thanks for the info about where to put the boot audio. now to find something that fits. i can't stand the verizon portion of the boot audio!!

Thank you for this.
You can also replace the shutdown sound with an ogg file of your choice. Make sure it is named shutdown.ogg and place it in the system/media/audio/ui folder. I have replaced both my startup and shutdown sounds with the "Droid" sound.
how do I do this on my fascinate? I took the bootanimation.zip and dropped it in the folder, but it won't do anything? Do i need to delete the verizon one or samsung ones?

You need to either delete them, or tack .old on the end of them, so that there is only one file named bootanimation.zip in you system/media folder.

Where did you guys get the droid sound files? Can you please post a link to where I could grab them? THanks!
Does anybody know if it's at all possible to extend the amount of time the boot up sound can play? The boot animation I have works great with this drumloop I have behind it, but it gets cut off at about 8-10 seconds.
ugh, newb ? here.. how do I access the system/media folder?

[BootAnimation] Need some help.....

I'm having some problems making my own boot and down animations...
I made a set of pics in PNG-8 format and named them 00001 00002 .... 000nn.
I have a desc.txt file and a part0 folder like the guides a read but it doesn't work.
the down animation goes just once and not looping and the boot just stuck in the first image (they are the same file).
and yes I've put them in the right directory and under the right name.

I read somewhere that you have to leave an empty line at the end of the desc.txt file. Not sure why you have to do this but I didn't find one at the end of your desc.txt. Possible solution? Hope this helps

the files are 138 images, which before it was 178(edited) but it doesn't work after moving the bootanimation zip folder to the system/media.
after the semaphore ics boot image, it just go black screen and the bootanimation didn't work. not even the android default boot didn't.
here's my file. i hope you could help me out for it to work. i think the desc.txt is the problem. the code contains it.

thanks in advance.
Maybe a stupid suggestion but did you make sure it had the correct permissions and changed the name of the old bootanimation.zip (or took it out of the folder..)

I was bored/ unemployed and decided to turn the nexus 6p commercial into a bootanimation.
Just replace your original from system/media ( make sure you keep the original in a safe place) change permission to rw-r--r--.
Hit like if you like. Hit donate if you want too. The attached .gif is not the actual boot animation just a preview made for this post.
Here is the video used to create the boot:

If you have any request I'm willing to custom make one for you, since I'm unemployed and bored, only 30 Sec video clips please. Or any recommendations?

I flashed your zip file but it didn't change anything. I have been trying to flash a custom boot animation with audio for a few days and I can't seem to get it to stick. I've even used Rom Toolbox to flash but animations but all that I've achieved is actually losing my standard boot animation.
Can you please help?

Would you like the stock boot back? ( ALWAYS KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE) I'll post it below . I just noticed theres an Error in the flashable.Zip. (To add sound to your bootanimation you must save an .ogg file in the same folder and code it into the animation) .Use root explorer to replace whatever boot animation you have in the SYSTEM>MEDIA folder and edit permission to rwxr--r--
Thanks, I appreciate you helping me with the stock animation.
Can you help me figure out why the hell I can't get any other boot animations to work?

Ate you setting the right permissions? Rwxr--r-- and if that isn't working try rw-r--r--
I'm trying to create an iron man boot animation with audio. I included the audio file inside the zip file for you to see.
I hadn't thought about the permissions so I'll go check those out.

Yes permissions must be set in root explorer for the manual method to work. I will check yours out

after my initial research your png files in each folder must be consecutive i.e P1 000.png-070.png P2 071.png - 139.png Etc..... they must be consecutive. you started from zero in each Part. 70 .png per folder

If you send me your original image files ill compile them for you i just dont want to go back through and rename all your files since you already have them. ship it to me in one bulk folder
I've attached a zip file with all of the images. I renamed each one to be in exact numerical order starting at 000 and going in increments of 001.
I placed that zip file with the desc.txt file into system/media and set the permissions at 0744(rxwr--r--).
It still didn't work.... Is there a limit to how many images can be in one folder?
I attached the zip in question to this post so you can see.
I also tried setting the permissions to 0644(rw-r--r--) and that didn't work either
