Easy Guide to Setup Internet calling on your Gingerbread phones! - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In the past several days, as there has been influx in Gingerbread users, I have seen an increase in traffic to one of my all time favorite guide to setup internet calling via Android phones using Google Voice #s and enjoy free calling throughout US with wi-fi as long the Google offer lasts. So I thought maybe I will create a new thread with the link to enable easy access to all the wandering souls looking for the information.

[REQUEST] [WIDGET] Google Voice APK and Direct Access Numbers

Hello,
The Google Voice users in XDA may know that with the last major change in the Google Voice apk, the team decided to institute a direct-dial facility to make outgoing calls through Google Voice.
History: Prior to this version, all call were routed through standard numbers (202-556-0000) for the Northeast region. The way it worked (for outgoing calls) was that GV would use the internet to inform their engine in the back-end to give a call-back from a fixed phone number. Thus if I added 202-556-0000 number to my (Fav-5) number, then all my outgoing calls would be free.
New Version update: Some say that google decided to sleep with the telcos and started to assign unique numbers to each telephone number in the contact list (at the back-end) so that the GV app can now initiate a call to 'directly' using the unique number without going through the internet call-back process.
Irrespective of principle, Google decided to inconvenience millions of people without an option to disable the direct dial 'feature' which has pissed many people and resulted in very long ranting threads on their help forum. And like all Google products - official support is almost zero.
Solution: To go back to the older technique of dialing - users have uninstalled the latest GV app from the ROM (e.g. using Titanium Backup) and installed the previous version of the apk file.
Current state and request: Google Voice application has seen another major update today where they have introduced the anticipated widgets but still no option to change the direct-dial feature.
Unfortunately, I am not a programmer but I was wondering if there was a way to extract the widget functionality from the new apk and use it in conjunction with the older GV version (without widgets and direct dial) or something to that objective?
Thanks for your help!
I need the Google Voice apk that dialed out to 202-556-0000

Can't sustain on a 400 mins MyFaves plan without that.
This thread does NOT belong in development. I am moving it to Q&A.
Please read the forum stickies and rules next time.

Someone posted a DropBox link to 0.3.4 in a similar thread on droidforums.net.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I arrived here via Google and figured there are probably others looking for it also.

[BOUNTY] Restore Native SIP support for cash!

Hi folks,
I'm looking for someone who can either provide a guide for replacing existing BlurPhone.apk with .apks that work with the native gingerbread SIP stack OR someone who successfully hacks BlurPhone.apk so mIsSIPSupported is not hard-coded to false.
I personally will provide $20 Paypal payment to anyone who is the first to do either of these two things. I've been patiently waiting for ROM releases on this phone only to find out that all the options we currently have still utilize the stock BlurPhone app...
Anyone else who would like to offer bounties for this accomplishment please chime in here.
Thanks!
MODERATOR MESSAGE
XDA accepts no responisbility of a scam of any sort.
No offense intended to anyone, just a disclaimer.
This is actually a HUGE thing for me - so I'll toss in $20 too.
Dumb question: Would this just be standard SIP support that I remember Google talking about 12 months ago, or would this also include the ability to use Google Voice right in the OS?
Google Video Chat works ridiculously well so I can only imagine how well Google Voice calls would sound (requires less bandwidth) if it was built right into the OS. As it stands, I use GrooveIP and it is always very frustrating to the recipient of my call.
this request is specifically about the functionality disabled by motorola in blurphone.apk
bump...
anyone? anyone?
Very much needed
I will also be willing to put in money if this gets done. What was Motorola thinking taking it out?
good news...new ICS CM9 has working built-in sip ..whoot

MindPush is a location based application – so you can see messages that have been posted within 1/2 mile of your current location at any given time. Users are able to leave anonymous messages, so other users can view and interact with them once they are in the same location. This interaction can happen in real-time, but users can also see past messages in their location up to 30 days. If another user is active within the 1/2 mile range, they will be shown on the user icon and Proximity map. This is to encourage users to post new messages and interact with not only their given material environment, but the people in that environment as well.
We need YOU to start leaving your anonymous messages and feedback everywhere you go! Imagine a future where you can go into any restaurant, bar, clothing store, sports venue, coffee shop, etc. and instantly get useful information from your peers using MindPush. Feedback?
Has anyone tried this out yet? I would love to receive some feedback from the XDA community!
Thanks!
I tried it.. Good idea. Drains battery though im im gonna keep it and use it to see what its like. Does it only work in my area or can i use it to communicate with people outside of my city/state?
As of right now - you can only view messages and other users that are within 150 feet of your current location (we have/are considering making the range wider though...depends on initial download numbers and feedback). The messages will change depending on where you are located and what other users have posted in the area.
As for the battery drain - we realized that having your GPS location set while the app is running - and having the app call our servers to update the location of other users and various messages could be an issue for some as far as battery goes. Once you've logged into the app, press the menu button to access the battery drain slider. From there you can set the time interval for how often the app will call the server for updates which should help improve battery drain based on your preferences.
Thanks for the feedback and support! Please let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions. I really want this to be an app for the people and am more than willing to listen to how people are using the app and what could make it better! The iOS version was completed today and will be submitted to Apple for approval. Once that is done, you will be able to communicate cross platform and the numbers of users in each area should improve as the user base grows.
Update coming soon
We will be releasing an update soon to widen the range to 1/2 mile. Users will be able to view other messages up to 1/2 mile and see how many users are within 1/2 mile as well. This should really increase interaction between users and provide more information about cool things going on in your area! Let me know what you think.
Thanks

Wifi Tether Packet Sniffing on Android 4.1.2+

I'm going to cut to the chase because I'm rather lazy about typing all this up and my head is kind of jumbled right now so I won't go into detail on how this came up. Found on this page.
After a bit of research I found that Android 4.1.2 and onwards have a feature built into the OS that notifies carriers whether or not we're using the data for tethering. As of right now the only way I have seen to bypass this is to use a user agent filter in your browser. It's obviously annoying since the pages that come up are the mobile web pages and aren't optimized for desktop usage. I want to know if there's a way to bypass (or remove) that feature.
The script on the page above didn't work for me, which is basically why I'm making this post. I've already tried changing my APN to no avail.
Note: I'm on T-Mobile.

Troubleshooting: unlimited tether, please contribute!

The point of this thread is to get the ball rolling on potential fixes for loss of unlimited tethering on the T-Mobile note 4 and potentially other devices. Please do not post saying you are having problems what I would like to see here are users who havnt been blocked yet posting their ROM and mod combo while listing which devicess or services can properly function when tethered for those who have been blocked to try. For me currently running PAC ROM with build.prop and settings.db mods with dun apn and have tether to computer and limited services to Xbox one and ps4. (Netflix and gaming services work on both consoles but no other video apps, ie. Hulu and crunchyroll.) Almost all mods still work for me with the same functionality, my personal goal is to regain full functionality on my consoles. Thank you!
