Q:Why MapQuest, when we already have Google maps
A:Some people don't like Google, some may like the interface better, may want to use it as a backup for searches (in case you get some bad results from Google Maps), may get better performance out of it (lighter than Google Maps), there's no end to the possibilities!
Q:Wouldn't this slow my phone down? Especially being I already have G-maps, and several other navigation apps installed.
A:It's way smaller than you think AND moves to the SD card, so it's not much of a commitment or memory hog.

An internet connection is required for syncing to Google Tasks. You can run it offline for periods, but it's main purpose is to be connected to Google Tasks at it's heart, so it uses your Google account and requires internet connection to retrieve your tasks when you first open the app, after that you can open the app without internet and modify things and sync later.

Do my friends need this app in order to interact?
Not at all. Social Scout will grab your friends activity no matter how they check-in, as long as they do it through Facebook either directly or via other apps or smartphones using a Facebook connection. Some users though, may set some particular privacy configurations for their Facebook account, so on those cases Social Scout might not be able to access check-in information from them.
Bonus
You will notice that there is kind of an embedded app inside, it’s a Facebook app you can access from either Social Scout or by pinning it to your home screen. This JDB Facebook app has some particular features you won’t find in other Facebook touch browsers, such as full screen view of pictures, pinch to zoom, full screen browsing, tags in comments, orientation lock, upload pictures to different albums, integration with Social Scout for checkin or places-related content, etc.

It has great advantages but a small disadvantage as well: you might find some duplicated or misplaced venues.
