Hey everyone,
First contribution here : a boot screen animation based on KITT's scanner as you will see below.
I made it blue, but I plan on making it red and green as well as soon as possible. I may take requests, provided I have enough time to make them happen.
WARNING : This is for 480x800 phones only!
Click on the thumbnail below to obtain a small animated preview. It looks much, much better running on the phone itself, but I am limited in image size so I can't show it in its full glory.
Don't hesitate to provide remarks/suggestions/insults.

this is my first post here on xda, but i've been lurking for a long time. i really like this bootanimation.
i'd love to see an android in there, but done very subtle. perhaps something near black on black?

It's not supposed to be fancy, just black. Based on the latest (as of 10/2/09) theme files (Build 23060). For (W)VGA and (W)QVGA devices.

as requested: first post updated with (w)qvga theme installer. please test and report back that everything works, i don't have a qvga device to test on.

no problem on cooking it in your rom. let me know if you need help putting it into a package
really liking this but i got 2 small probs
the text at the top is not there
also the buttons at the bottom are wrong
nice work, will you be doing a gloss v3 as well?
i use it all the time as it goes so well with EVERY rom

it would appear that you're using the (W)VGA version with a WQVGA device. Try the (W)QVGA version in the first post.

With all due respect (and genuinely mean that, cause I sure as hell haven't been able to create anything of the sorts... although I'm still trying) But for "PureBlack3" There sure is a lot of white and faded shades of gray rather than black. if it's call pure black, then make all the backgrounds in the menu's, and GUI in general, that are usually white... make those black, invert the font colors, and you'll be amazed just at how much batter life alone you will be saving people. The handset expends little to no power to display a black pixel, because there is simply nothing to display. Displaying a white pixel uses the most battery power. It's also really helpfull when usign the handset in a night time vehicular setting because you have less light distracting your vision.
Could maybe it be possible if you were so inclined, when creating PureBlack4, or perhaps a PureBlack3a, truly make it as pure black as possible.

With respect, I disagree.
As an electrical engineer, I can confidently assure you that the color of a pixel has an unnoticeable effect on battery life. Black backgrounds would have no effect on battery life. The backlight is the battery-drainer, and the theme has nothing to do with that. Other than that, the way that WM is written, it's almost impossible to do what you're suggesting. My aim was to give a "mostly black" theme that the Microsoft set of themes were missing. I suppose your argument on the semantics of the theme name is correct, but I guess that's why I'm not an english major

Ok folks, my friend just got a hero and we were talking about why to root. I showed him several ROMs from this site and all the cool themes. We got to talking about how cool it would be if there was a STEAMPUNK themed ROM out there.
Here's the rub... I SUCK at theming.
I looked at the "buufed" rom and I like some of the style, but it's just not quite what I'm looking for. Props to the developer of that ROM because it's very thorough. This is the depth I'd like the Steampunk theme to have, but I just don't know how to do it. I've never built a ROM from the ground up, so I don't even know where to start.
Is anyone out there interested in a project like this, or could someone help me know what to do?

Ok... I have a great deal of respect for all you devs and themers out there. This is a beast. Time-consuming and not very forgiving...
I have started working on my steampunk theme. Here are some screenshots of what I've done so far. By no means is this a complete theme. I am using ZenHeroFX 2.0 by nfinitefx45 as my base. Credit to all artists/devs for their work.
I have themed the notification pull-down as well, but I don't have a screenie of that yet. Also, I themed the stock sense rosie, but (again) no screencap yet. I'm curious what y'all think...

Wow. You're a fast learner! Here are some clear notification bar icons that I made. You can use them so that the black squares wont show up around the icons in the notification bar. Just unzip the zip file, and you'll see the folders that the icons are supposed to go into. Good luck!

This is looking really good. Here's another theme I found a while back that has some of the same elements of csrom and your current build. I've never used it, but maybe something in there will help you, or maybe this dev can help you.

sadly though, I am using CM6 or AOSP, so would not actually end up using it, but I will be watching this thread for S&Gs anyway. the end result should look spectacular.
if I could add one "suggestion"? Get rid of the "branding" (SteamMod in big letters on the lockscreen?), I would think ppl would rather have something less intrusive in the look. I know I would. something clean and mechanical. just a IMHO kinda suggestion, great work regardless!

No problem-o... I appreciate the suggestion. Funny thing, too... I was using some of the mods from this on my daily use, and I thought "I need to take off that lettering 'cuz it's getting on my nerves." I'm just going to use it as the splash screen when sense loads rather than on the lock screen.
I have to take a break from this for a couple of days, but hopefully I can work on it some next week. Here's where I'm going to have most of my problems... DISTRIBUTION. I can theme my own phone b/c I know what I'm editing... I just am not sure how to make it so others can use it without bricking their phone. Any ideas? I hate Metamorph... was thinking more of a flashable zip? Or maybe just a themed version of a full ROM? ??

Hello all. I am new to XDA. I have been lurking around for a few weeks and have found this site very informative and interesting.
So now I have started creating some boot animations for the xoom. My first animation is based on Team Tiamat's Stock Green 2.2.1 Moray Theme.
I planned on posting a link, but it seems I do not have enough posts to do so. I will post it as soon as I am able too.
In the mean time, I can post an image... see attachment...
I also plan on trying to do a complete Purple theme for the Moray 2.2.1 rom if people are interested. Please let me know and I will start as soon as possible.

I am waiting to see how the blue one turns out. This is similiar to a boot animation I hacked together with some help, but yours is better IMO. My artistic abilities are very limited so this was as far as I could get.

I am working on a family guy theme for CM10 and/or Avatar Rom.
I have attached the wallpaper and lockscreen images for the theme.
Will soon release the apk version.
Meanwhile would like to hear more suggestions for the theme.

It's a good start.
I would restore the contacts icon, it looks out of place.
The lockscreen is cool but the images aren't high enough quality Stewie looks out of focus. It would look even cooler if Stewie was trying to run over Brian as you swipe to unlock, if that's even doable.
The Lockscreen clock could also use higher res images, or at least compress the images less.
I would make the dialer numbers orange to match the status bar. Actually that orange would look nice as the default accent color.
The battery and signal meters are a different shade of blue than the clock.
Like I said; it's a good start. Don't get discouraged, it seems like a lot, but it will be totally worth it.

today I bring you something a little different. Having ported one of my favourite gifs to a boot animation I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Editing most frames to assure it looks good in this new resolution I sank quite a few hours into it (I don't appear to be very fast at this) and I'm proud of the result.

I am not responsible if it, for any reason, messes up your phone. The tinkering you do is as always, your own responsibility. It's made for 1080p devices and at the moment does not support any other resolution. Let me know if you want me to resize, there might be a possibility to work something out.
