HEY! First time? Start here <------------------------- - Kyocera Zio M6000

Greetings forum,
I am sensing a common trend here in the forum. People are not reading... which leads me to question if what I am writing here will help.
Please. I beg of you. Before you root your phone, please read about it. Read what it does, how it does it, and what risks you are taking by doing it. There is plenty of information on this site. If you cannot find it here, remember, GOOGLE is your friend.
Now this is probably well known forum etiquette, but please use the search bar. If you are having a problem, look for an answer. Please do not clutter the forum with duplicate threads. Many times, information is not always phone dependent. Meaning, a solution for a Nexus 1 could, very well, work for a Droid, or any android based phone. Do not limit yourself to your phone. There have been numerous occasions where I have found help in a G1 forum or a Droid forum.
This forum is a (usually)friendly place to find and exchange information. (People get grumpy when you ask questions that have already been answered.) It is not, specifically, a help desk. Many people want to use it for customer support. This is not the place, even though many people will help you out. Your carrier has a support line. Please think about it before you post something like "Why isn't my phone getting reception?", or "Why aren't my text messages going through?".
Finally, if you want to get into development you have to read, a lot. If you root your phone or want to build an app or just want to customize, you have to read. Before you start deleting files or adding files or rooting or changing /system/framework, please read. There's tons of documentation. There is very little pity for people wanting to be spoon fed (at least on my part). If this is something you simply cannot or will not do, please do not download root uninstaller and start deleting stuff. Please do not try to upgrade your phone yourself. The carrier retail stores are more than willing to help you.
Get involved and be a part of the forum. You can learn a lot.

Thanks, I was getting a little annoyed seeing the same posts again and again.
If you have a question please search for an answer and then ask your question. Also you can join us on IRC.

search then ask doesn't mean search scan the results threads and then ask it means search read the results then ask to clarify what knowledge you gleaned from the results you read.... I see too many people say I read the thread but cant find this or that literally 2 or three posts after the last guy posted the EXACT SAME THING and got a reply. some of these threads would literally be two thirds smaller without the constant repitition.

Truth.

I have repeated myself a few times in several threads because some just don't read more than the most recent posts.

Well how bout just starting/creating a section or forum or whatever it would be called, where open thoughts/questions/ideas/or whatever can just be asked/discussed WITHOUT having to go thru all the searching and back posts and reading n reading? A section that's out of the way of all the techs but still within the zio section. Work and kids and other things going on in life don't leave much search/type/read n read time, lot easier to just ask (even if its already been asked some other where) and check back later for any results/replies.

"Now I'm so broke I can't even pay attention!!"

I understand that, and that is what this thread is dedicated to. I totally understand a busy work schedule. I worked an average of 45 hours a week doing tech support for AT&T U-verse, plus taking the bus and going to college.

This poor kid is going to get flammed for asking a question that has been asked in about 300 different posts.
Obviously he didn't use the search function and didn't follow the forum rules before posting.
Unfortunately, I can't close or delete this so I'll report it and we'll just have to wait for another moderator to do it.
These posts are annoying though.
To OP,
To date you cannot run flash on your G1. The best way to watch Flash videos is with an app called Skyfire. Look for it on Market. Or you can try flashing a SenseUI rom. No one is trying to get it to work in non-SenseUI roms because it can't be done at this time.
Also be aware that if you post without searching you are breaking forums rules and I don't think that I need to tell you what can happen should you continue to do so. So make sure you always search before you post. Besides, it'll keep the bashing and flaming down.
To everyone else... remember that if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say... don't say anything.
On searching for answers.
I've been searching for an answer to this question for three days and the only relevant post I've found is this one.
So thanks guys for flaming the OP without even bothering to direct him (or anyone else) to a useful post - the finding of which, seems to be easy for you.
Anyone who's spent any time on here knows that the information you're searching for is usually spread across a number of different threads in a number of different sub-forums. So if you know where that info is, a link would have been nice.
The answer is NO, but more importantly.... WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO???!?!?!!
Adobe must die!
Flash offers nothing and causes the suffering of millions.

Noobs and there questions!

You know I was and still am a noob at rooting and flashing roms but instead of reading and researching the forums, I find that alot of people just keeps asking questions about simple things and want someone else to do the research for them. Its kind of annoying at times. There has been times where I have asked a question or 10 but trust me I've read the forums first.
Anyone else feel this way?

I like the one which rom do I want to run like we know their personal taste
You always start as a noob. Today's annoying noob can be tomorrow's brilliant developer who makes all the goodies for free! People need to stop b***ng about noobs! I was once a noob when it came to SEO, web design and then I was the one helping hundreds of other new noob designers. It's a process you know
That's what stickies are for. They're in every forum on every site, and usually contain useful information. Anyone new should always start there for information. Maybe the rest of the forum should be unlocked for viewing/posting, once the sticky has been viewed.
Noobs
I agree the only difficulty is that I find the search tools on the forums difficult to use. There might be a better search engine or way to orginize the threads to solve this issue.
This is true here and in practically any forum on the internet.
There are noobs (which we all were at one point) and then there are idiots, the ones who register just to get their question answered, never contribute anything to any forum they visit, and are just too lazy to use the search or read stickies.
I was new to the Vibrant and somehow managed to flash my phone and root without having to post a single question. Stickies and search provided all the info necessary.
Some people just can't be helped or want to be spoon fed. Whenever I see a new thread asking something that has already been answered numerous times or is stickied I sometimes wonder if this person has never used an internet forum before, or perhaps are new to the internet itself and don't know their left mouse button from the scroll wheel.
I used to ridicule them now I just ignore them.
That ^ has to be the best signature on XDA. Period.
how do I flash this?
I see no issue with new people asking questions that have already been asked.
The search feature here is sometimes annoying.
Plus, if it annoys anyone so much, just ignore the question and let someone else who doesn't mind answering it to answer it!
I agree on the part that some people say about everyone starting off as a noob.
But god, they don't even TRY.
Before I joined XDA-Developers I had NEVER owned a smartphone.
But I managed to root, flash, unroot and unbrick my phone by myself, just searching around.
What the **** is wrong with u people??? The forums are specifically made for damn noobs, we all were noobs so dont keep **** complaining about damn noobs and all that **** ... Setiously, theres too many ignorant **** on the vibrant forums, wich is y many developers have ditched us here, so quit **** complaining and contribute to the damn forums by simply helping people who need *** help, not by driving them away!!!!
And next time please keep this thread civil and easily readable for others. There are stickies for a reason, and for the most part they cover the basics to get the newcomer up and ready to start flashing the device. Perhaps a mod should change the stickies link to be in large, bold red letters and name it "FREE MONEY. REDEEM IT TODAY!" to encourage visitors. While a newcomer can feel welcome to post a question if they are truly confused, there is a Q&A section for that kind of question, not the general.
As someone who has written many guides, some better than others, I'm starting to think they're not worth the effort. They may be, I just only hear from those with issues, or respond to posted questions.

I have to disagree, please continue the support and your guides rock!
Before I flashed my first rom I literary spent 2 weeks researching before I got the nerve to flash, and it was your guides that helped me through the process.
Keep up the great work. More donations to come my friend.

Raider x710a?

hey guys is there any root/roms for this device yet? ive tried searching and havent come up with anything... it all seems to be for the AT&T vivid...
The Raider x710a is the HTC Vivid, at least that's what it says under my battery cover.
Does the Rogers device have the same code?
Root's always been available for Canadian Raiders as your bootloader was unlocked much earlier than ours. custom ROMs are interchangeable by region.
well its actually a bell one, same device but i tried loading the ics official RUU from AT&T and it was a no go?
set sail for fail, another day, another newb
just newb with this device, if you check my threads i use to cook roms for the magic...so stfu

Learn the art of posting on XDA. This should be in general.
You asked for root and ROMs. For you, this has been available for what feels like centuries. Just looking at the dev board would have gotten your answer.
Now you're talking about ICS RUU, which is neither of those. Searching anywhere would have immediately told you that you need an OTA with the new HBOOT and the Canadian carriers have not released that yet!
Ai ya yai, it's no surprise that PG left.
ok so its rooted, and if im corrected there is no ics available to flash?

A lot of it flew out the window when PG left. There were so many people who kept asking the same questions over and over, who didn't search nor follow instructions, then proceeding to come here and whine about why their phone/ROM didn't work. PG got fed up. It's part of why the development here is so weak.
This posed question really is no different. I can provide decent responses to good questions and demonstrated competence, but it's immensely tedious to try to respond to the same questions over and over when the answer is readily plastered all over the place.
It was common understanding in the old Captivate forum that one is to search before posting, then post their question. For some reason, the problem wasn't nearly as pronounced there, and all places in which it appeared was in the General section. I feel like the convoluted (by comparison) HTC setup is causing a lot of angst among those new to this, but the information to do things properly is still present on the forums as much as it was before. All people must do is read thoroughly and follow directions. Nobody is responsible for your device except you, so it's your fault if you brick your $500+ phone.

I can understand the intolerance for whiners, but he wasn't whining. I know the history of PG and the reasons he left.
The quick quips telling someone to search really aren't helpful. Maybe they did and it was confusing or they didn't find the answer.
For that matter, if searching is always the response at XDA, we don't need XDA since all of the same answers are available on other websites and can be Googled.
The Internet is free and we can act however we wish. My wish is for a more helpful, less critical culture.

I have been using xda for years, i never post, i do this out of respect for the devs and people who have legit questions in the tread but since i just got my HTC raider last week (i have a G-Nexus as my main device) i started to Rom and ROot this device and i have seen so much anger on these threads, brothers i have the same hate for mundane and stupid questions that can be answered by control -F-, or the search button at the top, i have found a answer to every problem i have had for almost 3 years worth of androids (G1,DEXT,DesireZ,GalaxySVibrant,MOTOAtrix,Xt860,samsung note, galaxy nexus) Just for the love of god please use the search functions that we have at our disposal so that we dont loose DEV's like PG and we continue to make these phones better than they are

I'm not talking about this isolated instance. I'm saying in general. OP didn't whine, but his second question posted a very simple and very common question whose answer is found all over the shop.
Every thread I've read ever since joining XDA has a clear instruction set. Never found any problems, and any unclear bits was usually cleaned up within at most a day. Especially for things that are guided/intuitive like RUU updating or CWM flashing. Anything deviating from that has always had clear and express instructions.
I agree with you on the searching front. It's just that by consequence, XDA is a pinnacle for Android development information and Google's search is not localized to the forum (though it can be forced), nor are all its threads indexed with the latest information on the latest issues, unlike the forum search and its ability to parse posts as they are made. Likewise, most of the information here cannot be found elsewhere unless heavily publicised.
My wish is for XDA's culture to have more autonomy and less incompetence. XDA is more of an instruction manual when it comes to knowing the ins, outs and modifications that you can do to your device.
Anyway, let's end this before it erupts. I am now abandoning this thread.

[Q] help with weui

Hey guys this is my first post but I'm not a complete newb. With that being said I'm using weui but I can't play songs from my external memory card and I tried turning it on in cwm recovery that didn't work? Plz help. How do I fix?
You are apparently a complete newb/noob/nuub/nub/newbie since this has been addressed since the beginning.... Can't right now.
Umm I don't read comments I only read the first post sorry I actually have things to do
That's not how this works... You need to follow XDA's rules about searching....
Dude, do you think you are the only person on here with a personal life??? If so, you need a reality check as we all have lives, some more stressful than yours...

You do know the whole point is to help and not try to have people reading 50 pages of a thread to hopefully stumble upon an answer to their problems right? Oh that's right its about being arrogant and selfrightous ? Gtfo if you're not trying to help.
I bet if you had read the list of bugs or not yet implemented features you would have seen it... People like you ruin XDA and you need to gtfo or learn to fix your problem yourself.

Coming to XDA and telling people you're too busy to do your own research is a red flag - no one is here to hold your hand. Ask in an entitled manner and these are the responses you'll get. Thread closed.
So basically none of you guys came to help. And I talked to night shack who thought it the sdcard was working.which prove my question valid. And also I begged for an answer to my problem how was that "entitled"? so why dont you guys troll somewhere else hahah
xda is not a tech support or help forum.
this is a common misconception. it is a development forum, for developing, ie creating software
we are nerds and computer programmers, we cut and paste what already exists, we dont rewrite everything for everyone that asks. the information is out there, we found it, you can too. also as nerds we have an obligation to have bad people skills and be condescending to those with inferior technological skills. gwah...

Giving thanks to all the devs on XDA!

There are a lot of these out there but I want to just say thanks to all the Devs on xda. I have been a member here for a longtime and the answer is always here regardless of make or model.
I recently got in the AT&T Samsung Note and in roughly 10 minutes I was able to root the device and install Google Now all by doing a few simple searches. XDA is the reason I left my iPhone 3G and I have never looked back.
Thanks Again!

Maybe XDA should start to implement a new feature for new members - they have to read a selection of tributes to XDA written by the existing members. This post should be one of them - maybe it would actually make the newbies realise that it is possible to search and not just demand to be spoon-fed the answers.
No matter how many threads you make people read, they still still post stupid threads. I mean honestly one could argue that the OP's thread is just as pointless as threads asking questions that could be found by searching.
And honestly searching is not that easy. I tried looking for a boot animation in the Note forums and it took me like 5 minutes just to find that forum in the search window while scrolling thru every device and praying I didn't skip it.
If I were going to make new members read a specific post, it would be this one:

I do agree this thread is fairly pointless, which is why I wanted to start it way out of the way in the very general category that it is in. And the search tool in the forum is a bit quirky but if you combine that with the use of Google you can pretty much find what you are looking for (xda usually comes up first on any cell phone related google search I do).
But the point here was just to say thanks.

Instead of opening a new thread or posting in a thread in a forum the dev is not likely to ever see, please feel free to press the thanks button for the dev several times instead of posting "Thanks for a great ROM" here or in their thread.
Rate the dev's thread with 5 stars using the rate dropdown button at the top of every page of the thread.
If you feel that is not sufficient, most devs have a donate button with Paypal. I promise you that they will remember you and appreciate you far more for donating even a couple of dollars versus some post, however gushingly approving, on their ROM thread.
