[Q] NO 3G after UNBRICKING... :( - Kyocera Zio M6000

being stupid and messing around with rom manager somehow i had deleted my
stock flash of the 1.6... so it installed a rom that worked but when i went to connect to the cricket network with the *228 it gave me verizon wirless.... then i tried to install my backup flash...thats when i bricked the phone... after a few hours i was able to get froyo back on my phone and the only thing that doesnt work is the 3G!!! my download speed is only around 130kb or so.....!!!!!!! anyway her are my network settings. if anyone knows how to fix or change these settings it would be greatly appreciated!!!
FIXD UNROOT B 4 programming!!!
alot of people seem to get there zio's bricked unbricking was easy after figuring it out unstead of the hard reset i got the phone into the modem update mode by holding down both volume buttons and the end or some combination from there was able to use my pc to do the froyo update via usb....

Dial *228

yeah i tried that first off dialing the *228 it gives me an error..... the phone works but the signal is extremely worse than usual..... after restoring the phone my number works from the phone just a horrible signal and no 3G! i just bought the phone hopefully cricket will help me out if not TIME for a real droid!!!

Since you altered recovery, you voided and warranty / liability with cricket.
Expect to pay for them to service your phone.
Depending on the intelligence of the Rep examining ur phone, you may be able to get away with it. Just don't mention anything about altering ur phone in any way.

Yeah don't say crap. I jacked my phone due to not listening to spz0 but fix what I screwed up. I'm still having a signal problem though.

as far as the data goes.... after the unroot and reprogramming my 3g came back and all seems well....except for the download speed is slim to none on any download over 600kb or so....html or browsing the internet no problem on 3g...streaming youtube on 3g is pointless... does youtube load quickly for anyone? or even load a 2 min video without pausing? on wifi no problem works great....

There is obviously something wrong with phone's 3G reception. Hopefully that spz0 can figure out a perm fix or otherwise take it to cricket rep. Play dumb and blame the brick on the OTA froyo update and don't mention anything about rooting.

K. I'm going to give some instructions here. Very Clear. Follow them to the letter and you shouldn't have any problems or have to ask any questions.
**note: You'll need ADB on your PC for this.
I _think_ if you download and install the M6000 Drivers provided by the tethered update process, it may install ADB.
Try that method first, reboot your PC, connect your phone and you should be able to open up a command prompt and type:
Code:
adb devices
Your phone should list under devices as a bunch of numbers/letters.
If that doesnt work, follow Androids instructions to install the Android SDK and continue these instructions.
**remember to ad the adk path to your environment variables path section (as described in the setup of SDK on the Android site). This will allow you to run ADB without having to navigate to the folder it is installed in.**
YOUR PHONE NEEDS TO BE ROOTED FOR THIS PROCESS.
1)Download the following files:
Stock 2.2 Recovery Image
http://www.mediafire.com/?9zqvczb92r22qg1
flash_image (needed to flash recovery)
http://www.mediafire.com/?pc52nfnb185m768
2) Copy those files to the ROOT of your SDCard.
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Open up a command prompt and type the following:
Code:
adb devices
Your phone should be listed as a connected device (bunch of numbers/letters)
Code:
adb shell
su
**make sure your phones display is turned on and you accept the superuser request on your phone.
5) Once you obtain root (your "$" changes to "#"), type the following:
Code:
cat /sdard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
6) Next, type the following:
Code:
cd system/bin
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
This will flash the stock recovery to your recovery partition.
7) Next, type:
Code:
exit
exit
**yes, thats exit twice. This will get you out of the phones shell
8) Next, factory reset your phone. Type the following:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Your phone should reboot, wipe data/cache and reboot into a stock image.
9) Dial *228
10) Profit.
**if you are still roaming after reboot, you will have to perform a factory reset (menu->settings->privacy->factory data reset) to revert to crickets APN.
I can't make it any more clear than this, so if this does not work for you, then I suggest re-installing the tethered upgrade to reflash all your partitions to stock.
ALTERNATE METHOD
You may also do this from fastboot.
Instead of using "flash_image" provided above, just download the stock 2.2 recovery image, put it in your SDK "/tools" directory (where your fastboot exe is located). Power on into fastboot (end and send keys simultaneously), open a command prompt and navigate to your SDK/tools/ directory then type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Once your phone reboots to your OS, perform a factory data reset (menu->settings->privacy->factory data reset) to revert to crickets APN.

Worked very easy even with windows 7 have had no problems doing any droid related tasks with this os...the reflash worked still network problem went to the cricket store after unrooting phone these guys didn't notice anything out of the ordinary couldn't believe it anyways he said 20 bux for a new one...

[Q] New to this "rooting process" please help

I'm Fairly savvy with computes and technology this has me at hump
what i have
Usb coard
Sd Card
G1 Phone
Windows 7
Q.A) how do i know what model stock version i have on my G1? ( I AM stuck at the google activation screen, so i can't go in and check
B. I downloaded everything i need to, Drivers and on my device manager i see ADB device and it shows HTC Dream
C. My SD Card is not showing up or is grayed out almost as if the g1 is not even reconginzing it.
I really can't do anything as far as rooting without a sd card, so how do i make my phone reconginze it?
U have to activate it I think to be able to mount your sdcard to the computer or to get the info for your phone so start there. Then I beloved holding volume down and power will get u the info. When u plug your phone in u have to pull down from top of phone and click mount to get SD on computer

Call them or go on the web and order an activation kit, they'll mail it to you.
alright man im help you out get passed that jus follow these instructions
But what you can do is check your hboot and what bored you have!
power down and hold camera buttong and press power
keep it held down till you see 3 tri colors, and make sure your hboot is not 1.33.005 or something along those lines
if its at 0.005.00 something then you can use the Dreaimg and go down and then use these instructions to get passed it then do the telnet root, and from there follow root instructions
if you have white screen with 3 skateboarding androids and hboot 1.33.2005 then you have (death SPL) but im sure your still on stock hboot and all but you can check what bored you have and grab the right Dreaimg for your phone
First, You must have either RC29 or earlier, or modded RC30. It won't work with official RC30, sorry. If you don't know for sure what version you have, but you know you haven't installed a modified RC30 build, then the easiest way to check is to reboot the phone, and once it starts up and is showing the "click the android to begin" screen, or the "no sim card" screen, then type the following on the phone keyboard
<enter>reboot<enter>
If it reboots, then you have RC29 or ealier. Otherwise you have RC30.
Second, you must have adb installed on your computer, and have the USB drivers installed, or at least ready to install when it asks for the driver when you connect the G1. See this page for details on how to get adb working: http://code.google.com/android/intro...devicehardware
Third, you must have a wifi network that you can connect to.
There are too many possibilities to write specific step-by-step instructions for every case. So I will give an overview of the process instead. If someone else wants to write some specific instructions, that would be welcome
-----------
When you start up the phone without a sim card, it goes into a locked screen that says "no sim card found", and you can't even get into the registration app. So the first step is to get around that screen. You have to connect to your phone with adb shell and get root access, and then type the following command:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO system (name, value) VALUES ('device_provisioned', 1);"
And then reboot the phone. When it starts up again it will go into the registration screen instead of the locked "no sim card" screen.
This assumes that you have the sqlite3 binary on your phone. This binary is provided in RC30 v1.2. Alternatively, you could manually copy the binary to your phone with adb push, or put it on the sdcard and copy it to your phone. I can post a copy of just the sqlite3 binary if needed.
-----------
The second step is to enable and configure wifi, so that the registration process can connect to the google servers. In an adb shell session, type the following command:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings
This doesn't have to have root access to work. It works fine with the "shell" user that adb on non-modded phones runs as.
That command will bring up the settings page on your phone. From there, you can enable wifi and connect to your wifi network, and then proceed with registration as per normal

Note:those numbers are not backward!
you get the picture the download speed is very very bad upload is good.
i tryed many differents roms and kernel mix.
here is my setup for those test above
radio: 3.22.26.17
spl: dangerspl
recovery: RA-dream-v1.7.0R
rom: MT3G-test2_S + MT3G-test2-market-fix_S
kernel: ez-BiffTest2Kern_ebi1_S
i dont know how can i fix my trouble i use this phone on telus network ans tested my sim in a telus htc desire and speed is fantastic!
if you have any idea to fix my trouble it would be very very appreciated since i need some internet for my work and if i cant fic it i need a new phone and its not a good option for me now!
thank for your help.
Look up ro.rill settings, the ota being a T-Mobile stock Tom is not optimized to other networks.
But you can from recovery modify your ro.ril settings to speed things up..
(Or copy the out of the desires build.prop)
thx for the info i will try the file from my firend desire he is on telus. i edited mine but im not sure if it worked yet!

You just want the ril settings, since the rest will impact the operation of the rom. Also not all settings will work so keep a backup.
Also in other threads it's noted it may take a few restarts for it to work.
Im not able to write to system i tryed some guide in terminal and one apllication from the marking but im notable to copy prop.buil to system.
Boot into recovery, atatch your USB wire and run the following adb comands from your computer:
To pull build.prop to your computer:
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb pull /system/build.prop build.prop
Edit the file
Then to push back:
Code:
adb push build.prop /tmp/build.prop
adb shell dos2unix /tmp/build.prop
adb shell cat /tmp/build.prop /system/build.prop
adb shell sync
adb shell um
adb shell reboot
I finally managed to change the setting from 10 to 12 and its faster but not like the desire. i get 1000 kbps somes times and upload is still faster. Thx for the help whit this !! im still wondering if roaming can make the connection slower.

You have a telus sim on the telus network correct? [That combo is not roaming]
There are many factors in network speed. Personally for most things I use phone data for latency is more of a problem than speed.
One other note: if you are no longer with rogers you might try changing 3.22.26.17 -> 3.22.20.17 by fastboot. (not sure it will help speed but is know to solve some other gotchas without impacting the current rom)
do i need to flash a new recovery at the same time?

No .. if you are just going between 3.22.* radios using fastboot to flash:
The current system (including recovery, boot, system, and userdata) ought to work without any modification..
In case of problems however: so long as you flash the radio via fastboot [AND NOT recovery] you can use fastboot to restore a -R recovery and wipe the rest of the system if something goes wrong.

CM9 for OB

I'm just sayin' I hope that we get to see some love and get the CM9 rom for the OB. I would really like to get ICS before the middle of next year. Is there somewhere we can put in some kind of request? or is there a way to use an existing CM9 build to port it to the OB using something from a CM7 build? I've had the phone for about 5 months and getting tired of running 2.2 Froyo just still debating whether to take the plunge and root and put on CM7 or wait it out a little longer. I really have never messed with an android phone before but I read alot on the forum and it seems relatively easy to get the CM7 on there just afraid to root and lose my warranty and something break lol.
Just hack away, don't worry about your warranty. You might get your phone stuck in a bootloop, i've done that several times already, lol. It sucks when it happens, but you can always connect it to your windows pc and restore it to factory settings, unrooted and everything. No one will ever know your phone was rooted
And just to add something, if you can install Android SDK on your computer, you can use ADB Reboot Recovery (if you put recovery on your phone of course). It save me great time.

I would like Sobralobo to elaborate what he is talking about, sounds like it could save some time after a screwup. However, no matter the condition of your software, you can remove battery, hold vol+ and connect the microusb to your pc. On your pc, you run a LG app, input your imei, and the app will identify your device. It will also tell you if a new software is available. Even if it says it isn't, you can click Options > Recovery (or something like that, i write from my own memory now), and force a update. I'm also pretty sure you'll get V10d or V10e if you do. This process equals to format you phone and install everything from scratch, the way LG intended it to be. All of your personal stuff will be gone, all apps etc. (Obviously, not the stuff you got stored on your sd card, and apps you already bought are linked to your google account and will always follow you
Gingerbreak works for V10a/b afaik, if you get V10c/d/e, you can use this method:

2. When it hangs up on a black CMD windows, close this Window. (You should have Shell Root now)
3. Unpack the attached File in your ADB Folder.
4. open a Command Prompt and enter "adb push su /tmp/" & adb push superuser.apk /tmp/"
5. Type "adb shell" ( When Shellroot worked, you should se a "#" on the shell
6. Enter the following commands in shell:
Code:

cat /tmp/su > /system/bin/su
cat /tmp/superuser.apk > /system/app/Superuser.apk

What Sobralobo said is that just installing Android SDK (Search Google and you get more thousands of tutorials to install SDK and everything you need. Even in O Black section I think there is one with Black drivers and all. Maybe is this one.) you can use "adb reboot recovery" when your Black is in a bootloop or whatever, then you just flash/restore and you are done way faster than reflashing stock firmware. And in certain occasions (for example when you have a certain ROM and you try to flash a modded file in flashable zip that breaks it, you can just flash your ROM without wipe just to fix it and you lose nothing).
PS: You don't even need SDK. There are standalone adb packages, and with LG Black drivers, you can do the same.
This is needed when you mess up with the phone testing all the freaking day like I used to and many others do now.
OK, cool. I'm using adb for rooting and pull/push framework-res.apk and other small mods, didn't know it was compatible with nandroid backups. That can save me a lot of time and trouble next time i mess it up

Well, not directly related to nandroid backups. Just do "adb reboot recovery" (without the "") when you are in trouble. Depending on the situation you will have to input that many times (up arrow and enter fast and many times) if it's bootlooping to find the proper moment when the phone actually receives the command, but it's easy. Once in recovery, you do what you need to do.
aha. so i suppose it won't work with stock bootloader, since LG says "ERROR, LG Security team!!". Still neat that i can restore my backup from bootloader

Hmm I think you are partially right. I think in Black bootloader is never changed. When "ERROR, LG Security team!!" is because you really messed up and I believe you have nothing else than flashing. But if you have Clockworkmod recovery (you have if you do nandroid backups), it's worth a try.
I was talking more about bootloops, but maybe when "ERROR, LG Security team!!", if you take the battery off and when put it in again you play with adb reboot recovery, it may work. I can't remember.

.621 Root Method - For new OTA Update

***Root method for .621 update***
THIS IS FOR USERS WITH THE .621 UPDATE ONLY. IF YOU HAVE NOT UPDATED DO NOT USE THIS METHOD.
*****DO NOT USE WINDOWS*****DO NOT USE RSDLITE*****
Instructs are made by Skelente
1.) Download the latest Ubuntu iso for your system. Most processors these days are 64 bit, but if you're running on an older computer or do not know if you have a 32 or 64 bit processor I'd recommend doing 32 bit just to be safe (64 bit processors can run both 32 and 64 bit distributions, but 32 bit systems cannot run 64 bit distributions.) Side note: you can download other distributions, but if you do you will not be able to create the persistent drive using the USB method. It should also be noted that some older systems cannot boot from USB, most newer systems (post 2000/2001 IIRC) can boot from USB, however you should consult Google to verify for your system.
2.) Burn the iso:
2.a If you have a cd burner and blank disc, this is the easiest method but, again, you will not have a persistent drive you will just have a Live CD. Use an iso burner to burn to cd, then skip to step 3a.
2.b If you do not have a burner, a blank disc (or don't feel like wasting a DVD disc) but have a free USB drive (with at least 2 GB of memory, bit overkill but it has to be big enough to hold the iso + changes + the persistent "drive") then I recommend downloading either unetbootin or universal USB installer. Go to either web site and follow their instructions. If you use Ubuntu, you'll have the option of creating a persistent drive, which is basically a fake-partition that allows you to save files to when you reboot Linux after running this Live USB. I would recommend using a persistent size of at least 200 mb so we can save the SBF file and sbf_flash. If you created a persistent drive go to step 4. If you opted out of this, skip to step 4.
3.a So you have a Live CD now. If you have a spare flash drive, load up the 604 SBF and sbf_flash. Either way, you'll need to proceed to booting into linux, go to step 4.
3.b Once the respective application has finished, copy the SBF and sbf_flash file to the persistent drive listed in windows.
4. Now we need to boot from your Live image. Restart your computer. When your computer is booting up it should give you two options, "Enter BIOS" and "Select Boot Order" or similar. For my Lenovo Laptop, I can hit F12 to change the boot order, and from there I can select my USB port and it'll boot from there. If you do not see a boot order option, you will need to go into your bios and change the boot order manually. Again, you will need consult Google for this as the menu selections vary by system. It really isn't that hard to figure out if you go through the menus, but I strongly, strongly, strongly recommend and encourage you to google your motherboard's manual to verify what you need to change if you don't know what you are doing. You are responsible for any changes you make on your system. Your BIOS is crucial for your system to function properly. Once you have found where to change your boot order, select the respective drive (USB, or your CD/DVD drive). These will be listed by the manufacture name (so SamsungXXXX for a Samsung drive or PNYXXXX if you're using a PNY usb stick.)
5. When Ubuntu boots up, it'll give you an option to run "Live" from the CD/USB. Select this option. Installing to your hard drive could mess up your current OS install, and I'm not going to get into partitioning here. Once you've gotten into Ubuntu, select "Dash Home" in the upper left hand corner, and then type terminal in the search box. Click terminal, then open it up.
6. Now you'll need to get to where ever you have the SBF and sbf_flash stored through the terminal. If you chose to use the boot cd, and did not have an available flash drive, you will need to download the SBF from here, as well as sbf_flash and then extract them to the same folder. The default is "Downloads" and I recommend just extracting them to that directory for simplicity.
6.a If you had to download the SBF/sbf_flash, getting there through terminal is rather easy. All you'll need to do is type these commands into the terminal:
cd Downloads
chmod +x sbf_flash
./sbf_flash mb809-2.3.5.sbf
And then let the program do it's work. When it's done, go to step 7.
6.b If you already copied the required files to a USB drive, we need to get there through terminal. Type these commands:
cd /
cd /media/
ls (This command will list all the drives connected to your system, cdrom, usb, etc. If you used the Universal USB installer it will list the USB drive as "PENDRIVE", I'm not sure what the default is for Unetbootin but you should be able to figure it out and if you just used a spare device it could be completely random.)
cd drivename (obvioiusly this will vary based on the USB method, for me its "cd PENDRIVE"
If your files were just on the main drive, you don't need to do anything else but the following commands. If you put them in another folder, you will need to do "cd foldername" without the quotes obviously. When you're in the directory with both the SBF and sbf_flash you will need to do these commands (again, ignoring the '-'):
chmod +x sbf_flash
./sbf_flash mb809-2.3.5.sbf
And then let the program do it's work. When it's done, go to step 7.
7.) After sbf_flash is done, you'll need to restart your computer. Its recommended you remove your boot media (cd or usb drive) so that Windows can boot normally. If you changed the boot order in bios you will need to change it back to what it was before, otherwise whenever you have a CD/USB stick plugged in your computer will automatically try to boot from it, and get pissy if it can't boot from the media.
8.) Once you're back in windows you'll need to run the zergrushv4 root method. From there you can do whatever you want. You still cannot SBF to previous versions (602 or 605) and you cannot run Froyo roms.

*HELP*
If you flashed with RSD Lite and have no data here is your options...
Flash stock .621 sbf and...
Switch devices on your account to reactivate the data
or
Call verizon to have them reporvision your data...
Once you are on the milestone system you can flash a custom rom.
You must SBF in Linux using sbf_flash, otherwise .604's radio will flash over .621's and your phone will no longer be able to take or place phone calls.
Edit: It may just be data, instead of phone capabilities. But still, flashing in Linux is much easier than having to spend time with Verizon's incompetent phone operators.

If you SBF'd using RSD Lite, you flashed the 605 baseband over the 621. I didn't think this would mess up texts/phone calls but just your data connection, but correct me if I'm wrong I'm just going from memory (I had a dx2, just been watching the threads.) This was a big problem for the people over at rootz and they had a few different tactics on how to solve it. Some were able to call VZW and ask the tech support to "re-provision their data" although that was with mixed results (it depended who ya got on the phone, some people had no luck and other people had their data start back up no problems.) You would need to sbf back to 621 and call from a separate phone, however. Another user (skreelink) theorized that it was merely the AUTH code that was being messed up, and suggested that (for those with a secondary smart phone) you just go onto VZW.com, switch out phones for your number, wait 15 minutes, then go back to the website and switch back to your DX. I'm not sure if anyone has had any success with the latter but I know the former worked for a handful of people (with others getting tech support who had no idea what they were talking about.) If you call and don't get someone knowledgeable, I'd just cross your fingers and call back another time and hope you get someone different.
link not working
anyone have updated link that works to download this?
yea i learned about the radio the hard way, but i found a quick fix... maybe...
If you flashed with windows and now cant get data if you have a old smartphone that is compatible with you plan just go online and switch devices and then switch them back. Saves from having to call verizon But some people may not have a extra
I am probably one of those people who will also need to use this alternative root method but I have a question -
I have been recently acquainted to this dilemma on my "new" Droid X. I mistakenly started downloading the .621 update on my Droid X . I quickly realized what was happening and pulled the battery before the download was complete. (data disabled on phone) . I turned off my router. I reinstalled the battery and turned off all of the data on the phone. I tried clearing the cache but get a message the triangle that it will try to download it again. I pulled the battery and do not plan on powering up the phone with any data connection until I can get some clarification on what to do . The phone has little value to me if it can't be rooted . Is there anyway to stop the train at this point and go back to .605 ( i believe that was the previous one) . - Thanks

If you disabled the download you are still on .605.
Turn your phone on, quickly root it with Pete's Motorola Root Tools, install Titanium Backup and freeze the "2.3.3 Updater" application.
Afterwards, reboot your phone and you should be golden.

nfazzdar - Thanks for the reply . I did a factory reset and that got rid of the yellow triangle. I then rooted as you suggested and installed TiBu . I really is too bad that M and V are pullin this cr#p .
I am going to update the post and host the files. There is also some extra stuff i will put up for download.
For people who don't want to pay for Titanium Backup to have the freeze feature, use a free app called gemini app manager.
Good to know. I think that I will also install OTA Rootkeeper as well.

You need to either:
Code:
sudo su
./sbf_flash
or
Code:
sudo ./sbf_flash
Note: if using
Code:
sudo su
be sure that the terminal shows a "#" instead of a "$" after you input the command. This shows that you are root.

When exactly do we need to input the code? I am assuming this is in terminal on linux?

What roms can we use now?
Now that we have root and su on the droid x/milestone what roms are we able to flash? I know they can't be froyo based but do they now have to be related to the milestone roms, droid x, or both? I've tried a few and it's always an abort so I'm just needing some direction here...

This worked great.
Any cwm kernels are we able to use?
Just wondering if we can flash custom kernels since we can do roms? If so any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible at all with adb to factory reset kindle without factory cable?

I believe I habe the kfsowi model. it is 11.3.1.0 it is rooted and I am wanting to factory reset it but I dont have a factory cable. just a normal usb cable that I've been using adb to transfer and even instlal some files because through tweaking it, it lead to a missing status bar in which i change the qmenu = to 0 and 1 or whatever in build.prop but no matter what it doesnt keep the status bar active at all times like it should be. it is non existent until i click on an app in apex, adw or any launcher ive tried then it flashes and disappears. during this flash it is not usable no matter how fast i click it.
also a small issue it has is ever reboot, it says kindle is upgrading but it is not upgrading at all because i have tried to click check now in settings to check for updates but every time it says update failed. next after that message it says starting applications for about 20 seconds. long bootup. i have probably messed with tweak i shouldnt have with pimp my rom and also android tweaker 2 and pro before it became 2. so the status bar is non existent. sucks cause cant even get facebook notifications lol.
i did factory reset it by the menu and also by using andromizer app to click recovery mode and do it that way.
(without status bar i been using all in one gestures but now recently i switched to using LMT.
this kindle has a few issues since i made it kinda as minimal as i could and probably uninstalled a couple things i shouldnt of lol like it only installs apps with adb install and adb install -r sometimes as well as through 1mobile market which is awesome. it will not sideload anything now because through uninstalling an extra deal or two i should of, it wont allow me to enable unknown sources installation through menus. if anyone knows a way to do this through terminal of linux that would be great
thanks to any help
or would there be any way to use the water beta without the cable and only using adb or any other steps. which to my understanding is the only rom so far. thanks
If you are rooted You should I think be able to run these commands from a terminal in Linux, if you meant a terminal on your kindle then take off the and shell in the commands I list to run.
Code:
adb shell
su
reboot bootloader
I think if you are rooted it will kick it into fastboot and you can restore without a cable.

thanks for the quick reply. yeah i am speaking of terminal from debian/ubuntu. I enter those commands you give me and it is recognizing the device. With adb I can even push files to install since it is screwed up and I can't access the menu part for installing from unknown sources. that is the worst part of the few issues I have with it.
after I enter those commands it only reboots normally. it doesn't go into the bootloader. I can get it to go into recovery mode where I am able to just do a normal wipe of the device but that is about it.
just to make sure I understand this. with a fastboot cable and all it is a different method from just a normal "wipe and reset" isn't it? it is using an untouched .img or something to put back to actual FACTORY as if bought from store? cause the normal wipe and factory reset doesn't put back the items I uninstalled of course from system and what not.
also is this safe to do without a factory cable. I just haven't ever needed one before and even if there is an extra step or two I don't mind instead of waiting a week for a cable.
Actually you might not even need the fastboot cable, if I remember correctly the restore method for that device would normally flash a system image that is smaller and incomplete because the system IMG is to big for fastboots 's buffer, then when it was just bootable enough to have adb push a file, it would push a amazon update file and run a command that forces the system partition to update back to stock from the update zip. So you should be able to simply push the update file for your amazon os version or older/newer and force update it. I don't have instructions handy right now for doing this and its late so maybe I post them tomorrow.

if you could do that that'd be awesome. thanks. I just read up about a locked bootloader but I've seen it's made some progress. I just need to be sure to not turn it into a drink coaster lol.
I finally found a way to do factory reset thanks to gran pc
How to reinstall FireOS
Botched your /system partition beyond recognition? Everything is broken? Dropped your #Kindle in a sea of piss and need to RMA it? Fear not! You can just reinstall FireOS and get it looking just as if we had never touched it!
First of all, you'll have to root your tablet. I'm assuming you know how to do this!
Once that's done, put this file -- https://s3.amazonaws.com/kindle-fire-updates/update-kindle-11.3.1.0_user_310084920.bin -- in /sdcard/ (you can use adb push).
Then run these commands:
jesunoiMac:multidownload granpc$ adb shell
[email protected]:/$ su -
[email protected]:/# cp /sdcard/update-kindle-11.3.1.0_user_310084920.bin /cache/update.zip
[email protected]:/# echo --update_package=/cache/update.zip > /cache/recovery/command
[email protected]:/# exit
[email protected]:/$ exit
jesunoiMac:multidownload granpc$ adb reboot recovery
If everything went well, you should see the 'installing update' screen -- and once you're booted, we're back to stock! We did it!!!!!!
s3.amazonaws.com/kindle-fire-updates/update-kindle-11.3.1.0_user_310084920.bin
funny thing is I rerooted after the clean update and forgot all about OTA's being automatic of course. The damn thing upgraded to 11.3.2.2 which I searched has NO root exploit right now. I am wondering if I can do the same above steps to go back to 11.3.1 but that is a downgrade and I am worried about a brick although amazon new update is like an iphone you can't tell any difference haha
also is the above way how you install ICE or hellfire?

ah good you found it before i could look it up. It will downgrade just fine, but you will probably need a fastboot cable to do it. If ICE or hellfire are roms then no, the 2013 isn't flashable with the exception of kindlewater. Since the bootloader is locked we are limited to using amazon's bootimg(kernel+intram fs).
