[Found] A nook color car mount that works! - Nook Color Accessories

So wanted to find a car mount that would work with my nook color now that I have navigation thanks to all the great devs!
Searched amazon for mounts that would work with the galaxy tab and a few other products and found an arkon mount (amazon link)
It is pretty sturdy, holds to the windshield really tight. I have had arkon mounts in the past for things such as my palm and they have great customer service and a good product.
It comes with 6 of the little feet that hold to the edges of the nook. Using all 4 "short" ones, the nook fits but its quite tight and the spring loaded size mechanism is at the total end. Arkon includes two extra feet that have a little bit of an extension on them and these are the ones I used as it is now easier to get the nook out of the mount.
Here are a few pictures of it in my car. Haha yes, I am aiming at my house....

Thank you! I have been looking for a mount for an android-powered device for forever (nobody really makes a great one for my incredible). Bought and shipped this morning!

on a side note, does your gps speech cut off the last half second (usually truncating words like "street" at the end)?

Cool, thanks for sharing that info. =)
V1 eh? I got me one of them too; wicked awesome radar detector.

I noticed this behavior as well.

omg sweet ordering one now!!

How do you even see to drive LOL... Kinda big to be blocking the middle of the windshield. =)

Thanks for this!! Great find. It's being shipped as we speak. Arkon is quality stuff, I have a few of their foldable e-reader stands and have had mounts for phones in the past. Still goin strong!

Personally I'm less thrilled with Arkon, specifically their customer service. I tried to get a replacement part for one of their mounts. Was promised a replacement would be shipped twice. Nothing ever received. Moved on to a ProClip and haven't looked back.

I was just thinking the same thing, talk about disrupting your vision!
I wonder if you could match it with one of the sticky pads like on the other car mounts and use it on the center console...
*Edit* Looks like it comes with a disc for sticking it to another surface. I'd be curious if it could hold the weight very well....

It does come with that flat piece of plastic so you can mount it elsewhere.

i finally got around to doing a full test with the GPS the other day. I did not notice this issue and had it running for about 30 mins to my destination.

That is a HUGE obstruction of view on your windshield...
Don't go getting in a wreck.

Those sticky pads are not going to hold this much weight for very long. The heat of the summer will slide the glue right off. Had this happen on my Garmin and its alot smaller! I thinking about a flex tripod, modified into a cupholder mount.
I've almost lost a Garmin GPS out the passenger window on a turn one time when the windshield suction cup failed. It went flying across the dash and barely stayed in the car. Be careful...

Ditto. I've had a Garmin and one other suction cup both let go at inopportune times. The was holding a small GPS or phone. I can't imagine it working well with something the size of a NC. But as long as it works for you.

Car holder/ mount...

Hello!
Anybody use Xperia in car as Navi or Handsfree system? Do u ppl use any carholder/mount?
I saw http://www.brodit.com/. Looks nice and you can use it in landscape mode.
For now it's the best looking carholder I found online. Maybe someone has one to share opinion about it?
I use pro clips, which is definitely one of the best ones out there in my opinion.
www.proclipusa.com
ive got the brodit one by ebay and its pretty cool!
looks a little bit bulky but the ex1 fits perfectly in it.
landscape mode worx well too but u wont be able to tyle anything with it while u drive anyway.
There is a cheap custom fit holder for the X1 on ebay, which fits the phone perfectly. It's cheap, too.
I use the brodit. works pretty nicely. Has a snug feel to it. I'm using that with the car charger, so when the keyboard is open the usb is pointing down so its perfect.
Don't have one yet, but always tend to go with Brodit, good quality products.
Finally! A car mount that is EXACTLY what I envisioned:
http://www.netimes.com/shop/car-mount-holders-for-sonyericsson-xperia-x1-p-1582.html?currency=USD
Might be cheap, but I will soon find out. Ordered, but with the slow shipping method. The same company also sells it on ebay. There are clones of it as well.
My main concern with any of these is that they will wear the finish. What do the users of these car mounts have to say about wear on the X1's finish?

With the one I'm using (which btw seems to be the same one JKingDev mentioned) it's no problem at all, as the phone sits firmly in the holder and has no room to shake around in it. Therefore it is very unlikely to scratch or wear the phone's finish.

Really? Glad to hear that it works well. Where did you order yours from? Did it ship from Hong Kong?
I ordered it from Honkong via ebay (see my first post in this thread) and got it here to Switzerland whithing 5 days. Pretty happy, I am changing the arm for a rigid one though, as these flexible ones vibrate to much.

Heh. Didnt even see that post. At least it was only a week ago. I would have been mad if this had been out for months and I had no idea. Can you point to what arm your are replacing the flexible one with?
I think I'll order Brodit mount with proklip for my Mazda.
Here we have in stock mounts mentioned by JKingDev but personally I don't like anything on my front window.

Keep in mind though, the one I linked looks like it uses the herbert richter mount system. You dont have to use the windshield mount. You can attach the device holder to other kinds of mounts.
I like the one from netimes.com very much but they only accept paypal payment which is not supported here in egypt does anybody know if there is some other vendor that supports plain visa payments ....thnx in advance

Originally I wanted to get one of those, but then I realized, they won't be of any use in landscape mode.

Hi JKingDev, you received yr mount yet? How's it and can it hold the X1 firmly in both portrait and landscape (and w/ keypad open) ?
The pic does not show any angled "edge" on clip which I am afraid X1 will accidentally fall out.

I have not received it yet. It is coming from Hong Kong and I did not expedite the shipping. It left HK on the 14th. jsmithe seems to have the same one though and he said it does hold it firmly. I will report back when I get mine. I cant wait.
I see what you mean by an angled edge. It is probably there just very tiny. It shouldnt take much to do the job.

Car Kit

The car kit looks nice, hopfully there's an affordable option for it. Any retailers selling it yet? I know some are pre order.
Yea I agree, although having to take the back of every time seems like a bit of a pain in the arse!!

I was hoping the new back sits permenantly on it, it just enables you to 'snap' it onto the car kit.
Don't think so, otherwise you have a 'bit' sticking out the back the whole time. Won't feel good in your pocket! I could be wrong though....I'm only going by the photographs.
Here's a retailer selling from the 11th. No price yet though.
Expansys have it but can't ship for 100 days.
Handtec have them from mid December
Clove are due stock from early December

I see what you mean about the bobble on the back.
I suppose the burning question is: how easy/quick is it going to be to remove the back. If it takes half a second to remove and another second to put the car kit version on, it's not really an issue. You can keep the car kit version in your glove box and whack it on when needed.
Looking at the pic I poster earlier. It looks maybe half of the width of the device again on the back. I don't think it would bother me as long as there was an un loseable insert to jam in it when not in use. That being said as the esteemed officer above me points out, how long does it take to switch a battery cover? With any cradle there is a certain element of fiddling involved.
I respectfully disagree The Brodit holders have the exact size for any given phone, so that you can literally drop it in and that's it!
That said, if it is only a 2 second job then it matters not. I still don't like the idea of taking the back on and off all the time...
What's up with that "special" menu enabled when the HD2 is docked in the car kit? Will that be available with a brodit holder too? What navigation software does it work with or is it just a short cut to any given software? Haven't found any information about it more then a few screen shots... ?
Is it just me or is it ridiculously expensive for a car kit?
yeah absolutely, HTC accessories site has it listed at 65P thats 60P more than I want to pay, also many retailers and ebay stores selling car chargers and wall chargers stated as compatible with HD2 yet the plug on their products is mini USB.
Yes, It is expensive and I won't like taking the back cover off all the time. I'll be waiting for something like the Brodit active holder...

All the mounts I have had since the XDA Mini S have been slide in like you say although not Brodit. Some have had the speaker built into the unit and some built into the cigarette lighter adapter. Been very pleased with all of them, not sure you could design one as flawless as these as they will have the micro USB and the 3.5mm audio jack to take into account.
What I meant by a certain element of fiddling is actually sliding it into the cradle, and sliding it out. As smooth as it is it still takes a certain amount of time. I think I could snap the cover off my TP and put a new one back in, then dock it into the magnetic holder on the dash either just as fast or faster than leaning forward and guiding the phone into the mount. Also I have a nasty habit of doinking the phone off the windscreen when removing it, my wife has a habit of just pulling the phone instead of securing the mount at retreival point which with the old mount resulted in her frequently ripping the sucker off the windscreen and I always seem to be handed the phone on silent or calling someone as she always manages to press buttons. I think I prefer the idea of docking it via the battery cover, or getting a new wife.

Hi, where would you recommend buying it online?
Thanks!
It does seem expensive for a car kit - Wonder what the chance is of o2 including the car kit with the phone like they did with my Orbit 2? Anyone got any idea?
The Brodit holders look like a good option though.

[GUIDE] Windshield mount for CDMA Hero (lots of pics)

Jealous of the Droid users with their custom windshield mounts? Currently, I have not seen any aftermarket windshield mounts that are specifically for the CDMA Hero. Want to make one for around $8.50? It's not that hard, and only takes about 20 minutes of your time. Here's how:
Custom belt clip holder for CDMA Hero + Some sort of windshield mount.
I picked a windshield mount for a Garmin 200, which worked out well for me. This cost me $4.39 including shipping from HK, from eBay seller 'metapark'. Then I purchased the belt clip from eBay seller 'mobilesandpdas' for $3.89 including shipping from Ohio.
1. First thing you're going to want to do is pop the pin out of the belt clip to take it apart.
2. Then remove the rest of the clip using a drill and a 3/16" drill bit. Go slow! It should only take a few turns and the rest should come right off. Then you can take the rest of the mechanism and toss it.
3. Now we want to remove the round part where that mechanism was previously connected, in order to make the back of the clip flat. At first I tried a hacksaw, but it looked like it was going to tear up the back of the holder, so instead I used some wire cutters. Clip the semi-circle of plastic and the center pin.
4. Now to get it perfectly flush, you're also going to need to sand or grind it down a bit too. It should look like this when you're done.
5. Next take the mount for the Garmin 200, and remove the portions that extend forward to grab the Garmin. Use a hacksaw for this, and then sand it a little to smooth it up and make it look nice. You'll end up with a flat piece.
6. Use some sand paper to scuff up where the two pieces will be glued together, to make sure they get secured well by the glue. Spread some epoxy (I used some 5-minute stuff) thinly on the areas where they will contact. Make sure not to get any into the socket where the ball of the rest of the mount sits. I also filled the little valley with epoxy just to make it flush.
7. Let dry (I waited 15-25 minutes) and enjoy the new mount.
Finished product: [Front], [Rear]
Note: I know the final pics aren't that great, but it does really look great. No one is going to tell it isn't factory unless they're really looking closely. Some of the epoxy I slopped around where I didn't want it, I removed after about 5 minutes by scraping it lightly with a straight screwdriver. (wait for it to set up, or you're just going to spread it around)
By the way: This mount holds the phone very steadily, it doesn't shake or rattle in anyway at all. Another nice thing is that you can swivel the phone sideways for landscape GPS nav.
Check out how davide169 made his mount in this thread

I'd be interested in a DIY solution that allowed the camera to be used while mounted for Layar, or other Augmented Reality apps.

You could move where the mount is glued on slightly, and it would probably work. The belt clip part has an opening to allow for camera use.

Works fantasticly, and what I love is that it rotates 90 degrees so when using google maps/nav I can have it widescreen.
The version i purchased in the store looks a bit different, but it is very adjustable so that the USB power cord can still be plugged in, and its the first universal mount I've ever used that holds the phone securely that doesn't mess with the volume buttons.
wow bro good work... shows u were determined lol . but yeah thanx for the hook up.
@poor_red_neck
Yeah, I've been using a similar version solution until now. Unfortunately, I've owned a half dozen of the universal mounts, and they all have a few issues. The main one recently being that I can't see my google navigation when it's way down on my air vents.
It also worried me when exposing my phone to temperature extremes. My vents go pretty much closed, but the heater still would heat my phone up, so I completely stopped using my dash vents and switched to floor vents until I built this one.
@Everyone else: thanks for the compliments, I hope this will help someone in need!

You might want to note that the Garmin mount came from Hong Kong, so if you order from the people I did, it might take a week and a half to get it. However, the same concept would apply to any other windshield mount that you could glue on.
Just ordered both items. Should be a nice fun quick assembly! Thanks again for this post.

I just have a hard time believing that blue material is "sticky" enough to prohibit my tab from flying off there should I need to accelerate suddenly.
It's REALLY tacky. You can lift a bowling ball with that mount. Really.
Downside, that stuff is a grit magnet as well.

clingo makes products with same sticky stuff, i have couple of their products , it does get dirty and losses its "stickyness" but all you do is wash it with tap water and its back to the original sticky strength.

** tested the grip strength on the back of a sprint tab seems to work very well.
The mount shown has two adhesive pads so it should be fine
Would it destroy my nice leather Zenus if I tried mounting it?

I think the scoche would work great. Overkill really. I bought this tiny mount and it works great for the galaxy tab. My got it with an employee discount is the only reason I chanced it. That stick'em on it is surprisingly strong.
I have the Scoche mount and it works great. The suction cup is made from the same sticky stuff and really holds itself and my Tab in place.
There is a warning included that it may discolor certain materials, so it is recommended to use it strictly on glass or with the included dash mount piece. I have mine mounted to the dash using the included piece (which uses 3m tape) and it's solid as a rock. Was kinda worried about it discoloring my tab, and the Zaggskin that I eventually added, but no problem with either one so far. Holds the tab really well.
I used one of those ratchet clamp style window mounts for an old PDA that I had and hated how it gripped the PDA. It would also lose suction on the glass and fall off, especially during hot days during the summer, and really cold days in the winter. The Scoche mount stays put and holds the tab much more securely than that old clamp mount did with the PDA.

Is this the same as the one your using? Is there enough of the sticky material to hold it tight?
Thats almost exactly like mine. And it sticks perfectly. I was a skeptic, but no longer. honestly it could hold the tab upside down if needed.

OMG! The sticky stuff melted in my hot car and dripped down on my stereo buttons clogging them! I live in SoCal so it's not that hot! If you live in the US South West, don't buy this item. If you live in Alaska or Siberia, you'll have no problem with the sticky material melting and dripping.

Has anyone had a look at one of the Scosche car docks? I don't see how it holds the device in place, if it works then it looks like a nice compact little unit.

Super-E-Trader does a generic car dock but it's a huge ungainly thing. Something more suited for the Samsung that isn't gonna be half the size of my little Mirage hatchback would be nice.

i just bought one very similar to this at walmart for $20. i have the gs3 and i took of the side clips of the mount and i have the body glove tatic case which is a candy/gel caze and it sticks right to it. its ridiculous how secure it is and i highly recommend it. it is a very well made and designed piece. looks super clean also. the model of the one i have is:
IPH3GRR
though i cant find it online anywhere, only the IPH3GR which is different? the one i have is just like the one in the original post although the flex shaft is longer, about twice that judging from the pics. my kit from walmart consisted of this: http://www.scosche.com/consumer-tech/product/2097 with the exception that it also included the window mount.

found it on ebay actually, $12.99 free shipping. the one i have.

Car Mount for Droid Turbo

So how about how awesome this phone is!
Got a sweet car mount for it, and I'm loving being able to map for hours without the battery being dead afterwards!
The car mount is from amazon, a brand called TechMatte. I'm a huge fan of techmatte- since I got my car charger from them a year and a half ago (which still works perfectly, and charges rapidly (even though now I dont really have to lol)) All you need for this car mount is a flat surface on your dash, or you just put it on your windshield (if that's cool with the police where you live).
Anyway, I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to a mount that is pretty reasonably priced, and works pretty darned well.
Oh, and for the record, my husband uses an iOttie one, and I personally like the TechMatte better. Personal preference
Thanks for the recommendation. I wasn't sure where to mention this but for the ProClip fans, they are making a custom mount for the Droid Turbo although it's not specifically designed for the ballistic nylon version.
This is a quality car mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HRKI5V2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I currently have the Proclip in my Nissan Altima and this time I went with the iOauto magnetic holder. So far it's working great! I'm using the incipio case, and I just have the metal tab on the back. Some may not like this aesthetic, but I'm fine with it. I also believe it would have no problem sticking to the back of my Ballistic Nylon since the tab comes with a very sheer yet easily secured sticky film to put over the disc.
The disc locks into place on the base and I can rotate and tilt without issue. No amount of rough driving or vibration has knocked it loose unlike my last experiment which seem to slide off with any virbration...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DPMNNUO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also the above item cause me to not be able to use my wireless charger, but the disc from iOauto does not block wireless charging. I have it situation a few mm below the camera and dead center. The wireless charger I'm using:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NBPHHES/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So as long as you don't mind having a very small very thin metal disc on the back of your phone I would highly recommend the ProClip/iOauto solution. Especially if you want to use a case or a bumper. (when will we get a nice bumper anyway?)

I ended up going with this version (http://www.amazon.com/Koomus-CD-Eco-Universal-Smartphone-Samsung/dp/B00JP0RTB4/ref=pd_sim_cps_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=0SVJ5T5XZQ43ZRKFT94F since it sounded like the depth of the mount on the other one might be an issue. So far having good experience with it. A little vibration using a grip at the bottom 1/3 of my phone but not too bad.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/bracket...lack/8762788.p?id=1202650710539&skuId=8762788 I use this. I like a mechanical mounting system so it's secure, and this really holds your phone in place. Plus side, can be used for pretty much any phone regardless of size and its very strong. Downside, sits on a vent so during the winter you have to keep that one closed otherwise the phone gets blasted with hot air.
I don't think I understand why people use car mounts so much... I mean I guess if you are using a maps app or something, but other than for that, I see no reason to have one. Am I missing something?

I always keep Waze up when I'm driving, to get traffic and police alerts.
For car mounts- I have the iOttie One Touch car mount. It worked really well for me for about a month and a half, but after that the suction cup stopped working.... So I'm on the market for a new one. But I do agree with OP, this phone is great.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I use my phone for both navigation on trips, plus I listen to Slacker Radio through BT connected to my cars entertainment system. I like to have a car mount that puts the phone in easy to reach and easy to see without having to take my eyes off the road for long. I too prefer the ProClip option, though currently they only offer the mount for the standard Turbo, not the Ballistic Nylon 64gb version. Right now, I will have to deal with a universal mount until ProClip develops the one for the ballistic nylon Turbo.

You had mentioned ProClip-- could you post a link to theirs? I would like to see it.
Thanks!

Thanks, but isnt' that a little pricey? $30 for the cheapest one seems a little unreasonable.
Logitech [+]trip and [+]drive mounts?
Has anyone tried these with the BN model? I tried one in Best Buy with the dummy phone but I have no idea if the dummy's have more metal than the real deal.
FWIW, the dummy model attached extremely well to the [+]drive but the [+]trip was pretty weak.

The active Proclip of the Nexus 5 plus the charging cable from the active Razr's Proclip plus 30 minutes of work = active Proclip for ballistic nylon Maxx:

I've not found one I like yet. I had having things on my vents, and on the window is not a solution for us here in Arizona as our phones overheat in just a few mins up there. Driving a Prius and using a dashmat leaves me in a place where I am going to just need to just make my own. Velcro, suction cups, and doublesided tape do not work in the heat here as well.
While some of the mounts here you guys listed here are nice, doesn't the magnetic ones mess up the compass in the GPS, or it does not matter since it is really pulling info from the satalites?
One last thing, for us using cases such as Otter Boxes I bet some of those mounts would not work. When I get my mount done I'll post some pics.

About the gps-- the magnet should not alter anything... you're thinking of the boy scout compasses. Those would be messed up, not your phone
My techmatte fell off for the first time today. I've had it for a few months now, and with the chill, it finally fell off. Pretty long duration. I will reapply when it gets a little warmer out.
