Hey guys, I'm definitely a novice in these matters, but this is the first time I've had a problem so I'd appreciate some help.
While my Droid was on FRG83D I rooted with SuperOneClick using rageagainstthecage. I had to install PdaNet to get it to work, but it did work for me. This morning I got the OTA update for FRG83G and downloaded and installed it just a few minutes ago.
I didn't unroot my phone before I did this.
Afterwards the two apps I use that require su won't work (Barnacle and ROM Manager for backups, I don't have a custom ROM flashed to my phone yet) so I ran SuperOneClick again, ran root using psneuter. Still didn't work so I unrooted using psneuter. Then I realized that I should probably unroot using rageagainstthecage and did so. So at this point (theoretically) my phone was unrooted. Then I ran root with rageagainstthecage again and my two apps still won't work.
Every time I rooted or unrooted using either method SuperOneClick worked seemingly perfectly.
So here's my question: What did I do wrong? And just as importantly, how do I fix it so I can have root access on my phone again?
*Edit* Well this is pretty embarrassing. I just rebooted my phone and tried Barnacle again, and the su acceptance box came up like it's supposed to. I suppose I'm back to being rooted. I think I'll leave this here, and if anyone has any constructive criticism of my (lack of) process or comments about why things acted the way they did and why it works now I'd like to hear it. I'm all about learning more about all of this.

Yes, I rooted mine after the Samsung/AT&T 2.2 upgrade. Use SuperOneClick.

SuperOneClick for the win. You may have to reboot after applying. I did.

I used superOneClick and rooted without errors, but for some reason Titanium backup thinks the phone is unrooted. I see the superuser icon after rooting, but when I type in the su command in the android terminal, I get a permission denied. Is anyone else having this problem?
NOTE: Fixed the issue, the phone needs to be rebooted after rooting, now everything works.
A few days ago I rooted my Bionic with psouza4 one click root and it worked perfect the first time I tried it. After I rooted I started noticing a few issues (Every time i opened an app requiring SuperUser permissions, it would constantly tell me it was being granted SuperUser permissions, could not boot into recovery either with the bootstrap app or from ROM Manager)
Figuring it might've been because of a bad root, I unrooted and tried rooting again. Now every time I try to root again, it gets to the third step and I get an error saying "we have root but could not push su. Try unrooting first, then running root."
I've unrooted and tried rooting 4 times now and it keeps failing and giving me this error.
I was only rooted for a few days so I was stock rooted with all bloat and nothing frozen so I never deleted or modified anything except for gaining root the first time.

Before I get into it, I'm not sure if this is the best section for this. I posted here because it's a Samsung Captivate I am using and this is a question.
Anyway, I used a video to root my Captivate. I downloaded SuperOneClick, the USB Drivers for Captivate and .NET Framework. Everything went well and it said my phone was rooted successfully. Well, I used Root Check and Term Emulator and both said my phone was, infact, not rooted.
I also have the SuperUser app on my phone. I then proceeded to try again, where I got the error that my Captivate was already rooted. I used psneuter exploit to root. Now, I'm attempted to unroot my phone, where SuperOneClick seems to be frozen at "Waiting for device.."
After I unroot, what should I change or try?
Did you enable USB debugging from your phone? Give me more details on your rom and other stuff.
Also if your on gingerbread the one click root doesn't work on some gingy builds

Download any app from the market that requires root. Try to use it. If it works, your rooted, if not something is wrong.
Okay guys my friend updated and he still has super-user, but it does not work.
I ran superoneclick newest version, it said it was rooted. I rebooted manually and his phone was stuck at the Droid anamation screen,
I finally figured out our to factory restore Power+x, then at the ! Trianlge with phone; hit power up and camera.
I restored it, rebooted and he still has super-user. So i tested it with root check and titanium back-up, did not work. I unroot with superoneclick and it does nothing.
So I came here and started reading I found out that 1.7 is needed to root. My question is will it still root even though super-user is already installed, but not working?

I have had the same problem. Even superuser was denied superuser permission. Go figure. I am eager to hear if anyone knows how to get back to root.

Have you tried superoneclick 1.7 rageinthecage exploit? I read it will root the firmware. What I have not read is people who had root lost it and re-rooted. I know someone here has to know, this I would think It would be a common issue with the og droids.
For some reason I can't find anything on it.

A while back I had a update and when I updated it removed my root, but I still had superuser. I did a system restore and rerooted fine. Recently the Milestone X got a gingerbread update and I wasn't updating because I was hearing that a lot of people were having problems with their rooting and wireless tether afterwards. A couple nights ago I accidentally hit the update button and now system restore doesn't bring it back to the original OS. Looking into this currently. I will post again if I find a way to get this working.
There is a simple, one-click re-root app from the market that lets you quickly re-root after the OTA update. Of course, you have to be rooted first.
Before doing your OTA, download the free app "ota rootkeeper" from the market. Run this BEFORE the OTA, and it'll stash away a copy of all your root stuff. Then, after the OTA, go back to the app, and with one click, re-rooted! Lots of phones it won't work on, but it DOES work on the Droid 3!

Just wanted to confirm for other users that if you updated to frk76 firmware. On 2.2..3 and were rooted. Supeoneclick. 1.7 will. Re root even if superuser is showing up.
Download 1.7 superoneclick
Run rageagaintsthecage exploit.
If it locks up, turn usb debugging off then back on. ( ie have the window open). I had to do it.
Re boot and good to go.

i have notice something on my phone since the official .893 rom my root has disappeared and i can't root anymore with any of the ways that i have what is up i tried forever root and one click one nothing. what is up can some tell me. also i mess up my phone and had to get a new one and .893 is on the phone i want to be totally full access root.
Try to manual root it then install forever root
ya i tried that last night this guy that does it manually all the time made a script to automate it and i tried it and it worked then i just forever root it and its fine now.
