Need a little help... - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, Lesson learned...NEVER going to give my phone in anyone's hand again...some hopeless friend of mine deleted the 'Wallpaper' folder...
Is there a way to revert back...
is there a way I can retrieve this folder..???
I am talking about the stock wallpaper folder...??

How did they manage that I wonder.
I imagine a hard reset will restore this. You can try a sync with Zune, but I doubt that'll do anything.

How???
It is as simple as tying shoelaces...just click on it and say delete...the damn thing doesent even ask confirm or refuse....DAMN!

The only way I can even find to access the wallpapers is by going to Settings-->Lock & Wallpaper-->Change Wallpaper. Once in there, I can NOT delete any wallpapers no matter what I try. Not the Primary Wallpapers folder, nor any of the pictures within it.
If you're expecting to see them in the Pictures area, you wont. They aren't listed there.
So it would appear it isn't as easy as tying shoelaces. You have a rooted device that has options mine doesn't or something? Did you actually SEE your friend delete the entire wallpaper folder?

OMG..dude ur god...
Yes I agree with you completely...It can be seen only through the Settings-->Lock & Wallpaper-->Change Wallpaper
My apologizes. But I actually thought I had seen it in the Picture section. I may be wrong. Just too happy to see all my wallpapers...
And that was the whole point, I didn't see my friends deleting so assumed that they deleted it...
But sorry...and Thanx a ton!

I downloaded it.... but its not in the app list?

ok so, i downloaded RSS Reader on my phone a while back, someone msg me on the site and wanted it as well, so its no longer on the market (unless the name changed) and its not in the application list. Its under widgets... i wanna help this person out cause i've been helped out in the past so its only right....any ideas?
If it's a widget then long press on the home screen and select widgets and scrool to see if it's there.
it is there, i still use it, i just don't know how to find it so i can give it to this guy/girl
This thread will be closed for i can see the near future on where this is gonna lead.
If ANYone contributes by his/her words of how to distribute paid apps to the unauthorized owner, well, lets not find out.
Find another site to ask this question, or a different way of asking it.
If the widget is still installed it's still in the app list. Sometimes apps in the apps list aren't listed as "App Name" but instead as com.designer.app.description. If the app hasn't gone paid the developer may have pulled it for some other reason. You may be able to find some info about said app, find other apps on the market by said developer and have your friend contact the dev to request a copy. If the app has gone paid and is listed on the market as such and you and your friend really like it well then it's probably worth the $0.99 or w/e their now asking.
As for getting it from your phone to your friends I fear the wrath of Mikey1022 and therfore have conviently forgotten how it's done A little searching should provide you with the know how...
lol its all good, i don't even know the person that msg me, but i figured since i come on here and people have helped me wether directly or indirectly i wanted to help someone out too... but w/e the app was free by the way but .... your the MOD
I'm pretty sure its okay if I write this...
Do this in terminal:
cp /data/app/* /sdcard/App
take all your apps from your phone + put it onto your sd. Find the widget and since its free give it to the guy/girl. Mikey don't kill me.

[Q] How to Rename Application for Root Users

I've searched this and other forums and still can't ffigure out how to change an applications name for a Rooted G1. I've been able to change an application's icon by switiching the .png in the drawtable folder, but where the heck is the apps name info stored?
Thanks for your help in advance.

That is probably going to require either editing the appropriate xml files, or rebuilding the ROM from source to be able to get access to other appropriate files. It may be more trouble than its worth. There may be an app for it, but I am not sure. Maybe someone else can chime in if they know of another way?

Well its been a long minute since I've used any home replacement but you can still use bettercut on with using open home or ahome. The only thing I'm wondering is when you change the name of the app does it only change on the home screen or in the app drawer to. I'm to lazy to do it myself.
You don't need a home replacement to use Bettercut.

bettercut is only for app shortcuts on your home screen, it won't change the name in the app drawer.
BTW does it work without a home replacement app?

Thanks for everyone's help in trying to solve this one. As previous post's have noted; Bettercut will only change the name on the Home screen or App drawer, not in the application list.
How about this...if it's too much trouble to rename, is it easy to hide an application from appearing at all?
Thanks to everyone!!

No its actually quite easy to keep it from appearing.....uninstall it.
Oh come on you gotta admit, you were asking for that one LOL
I'm assuming you don't want it appearing in your app drawer? Is that the issue? Are you talking about applications that come on the ROM that you don't want anymore. Please provide not only the end result of what you are looking for, but also a little background and maybe that will help with an answer.
Yes, I did set myself up for that one.
It's a 3rd party app that runs at startup. I would like to hide the app from appearing in the Manage Application menu. Thanks again!!
You can use the modified launcher to hide installed apps from the app drawer but I dont think you can hide from the manage applications section.
Thanks for the input Rodney!
can u also rename apps with the modified launcher?

Walkman - how to delete a Playlist?

I can't figure out how to delete playlists. It should be simple and I'm fairly tech savvy but can't figure out how to do it!
Any advice would be appreciated.

Long press and Delete. However you can't delete the Most Played, Recently Added and those kind of playlists. You can only delete the ones you have created.
Sent from my Compact Beast The Third.
Doing this only gives me the option to queue or share.

You're probably trying to delete the stock playlists :/ how about you just create one for now and try and delete it?

Yeah that worked. But there are all these playlists in My Playlists folder that I didn't create and I can't delete them?
It's so frustrating having to scroll through twenty play lists to get to the one I actually created!

You can't delete the ones Sony created. I know it's so stupid XD

i'm not a robot
manually, Hook up you phone to you computer, search for the name of you playlist. Right click and delete. you will get an error but it works. I haven't tried to delete the sony ones yet but I just wanted to get the ones from my old phone off and be able to create a new one.

Rooted HTC Mini 2 Camera Click and Autofocus sound still there?

How do I remove these files...Tried alot of apps with root access which still haven't given me a silence camera, shifted around alot in the root access not found anything.
The click as you focus and the click as the photo is taken...my phone is rooted so how do I get rid of it?

You can do that by simply going into camera definitions> camera options> turn shutter sound off.
Not in this region there is no option to turn off the shutter sound.
I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING.
1. I am using the file explorer. I have found the offending files. I have deleted them, renamed them, cut them, done everything humanly possible.
Yet everytime I go back there they have reappeared and continue to sound. I literally cannot fathom how ****ing hard it is to delete a 20kb click on a rooted phone
2. I have also tried the ULTIMATE sound control app which is very good at locating the problomatic sounds but and I turn them off using that program
And you guessed it they're right back there. These files are undeletables
I need to take pictures of some pretty furry stuff at work and I cannot have drip clickity clack clack when I am trying to take pictures....I don't know what else to try atm. I don't understand how they keep coming back where does the 30kb come from if I just deleted it

It could be possible that your region has a law against turning off shutter sounds which is why it has been omitted. Where did you buy it from? That could clear a bit of why the option isn't there.
EDIT: Did you try using the camera in silent mode? Maybe, just maybe the camera app will not have shutter sounds. It works for me though

Can someone please explain pictures and storage on the Nexus 6?

Hi All,
I got the Nexus 6 a few weeks ago and I like it pretty well though I'm having a hard time figuring out how to work it lol. One major thing I'm not understanding - it seems to have no picture storage in the phone itself that I can find. Is this correct? There's no "Gallery" or anything - all I can get into is my google photos. Which would be okay I guess except that not everything saves to Google Photos. For example:
Last night I took a picture with the camera app I use (Camera 360) and edited it in another app (don't remember which one - it was an in memory pic so I just needed to add some text). Anyways, I saved it and it said it was saving to the phone, however, it's not anywhere in the google photos. I couldn't find it anywhere. But then when I went to Facebook it popped up in my options to upload a photo. So it has to be saving somewhere!
I also have a lot of issues with photos from Camera 360, Instagram, FB, and other apps doing the same thing - they'll show in my FB options or if I click within the Camera 360 app on the preview area but they don't show in Google Photos or anywhere else on the phone.
Can anyone explain this to me please?
Thanks!

No. I don't really use the cloud. I want to be able to access everything physically on the phone if possible but I'll look into that too.
I thought it didn't have an SD card slot so how to I check what you said at the end there? If there's no SD card then how would it be saving to an SD Card? Sorry... I'm not the brightest with this kind of thing.

I actually had that on my last phone and liked it but there was a weird glitch on my old phone where it wouldn't let me delete anything. Even if I deleted pics from the phone gallery they would still show in QuickPic. Then if I tried to delete them in there it gave me a weird error. I could probably try it on the new phone again here though!
I did download the file manager and that seems like it will work perfect.

Do consider backing it up to the cloud. That way, if your phone dies or gets lost/damaged, you won't be stuck trying to figure out how to recover your pictures. Google Photos app gives you unlimited storage for your photos (just don't choose "original resolution"). The photo/video will still be there on your phone, but will have a backup on the cloud.

Hmm. I'm confused. Maybe I do this and just didn't know it was called the cloud? Right now my photos from my last like 4 phones are in my "Google Photos" and I can access them all on any phone I've had, on the computer, etc. So they're already stored in Google Photos?

Go to photos.google.com and sign in with your google account. See if your photos are showing there. If yes, then you are good - they are being backed up. You can verify the settings in the photos app on your phone too - settings/backup and sync. Verify that it is on, and that upload size is high quality (or you can choose original - but that will not be unlimited)
