Custom Dialer, notification bar, and keyboard? - Android Themes

Just wondering is it possible to use custom notification bars, dialers, and keyboard themes without flashing a new rom? I found some notification bars and dialers Id like to use from the Magnolia rom yet keep my HTC Sense. I dont use any launchers or anything. I prefer HTC Sense over the others.
I am rooted and I do run the HeyItsLou Kernel v8

You can use metamorph or ninjamorph, free from the market, to apply the images.
Or you can create an update zip containing the apk's and flash them in recovery.

I tried Metamorph, but nothing happened.

If you are running a deodexed 2.2 or 2.3 ROM you can use the Kitchen.

Im running the stock HTC rom with the HeyItsLou v8 Kernel.

Somewhere in there I found some cool skins for HTC SENSE. This will only change a few things though. Not dialer and keyboards.
But themed Keys are easy to find. I'm sure you know all this, but I'm just trying to participate.

I already found the themes I like I just cant get them to install.

Forgot to say that no ROOT is required

Do you have HTC HUB? And is it HTC SENSE 2.0?
I haven't had any problems installing them, but I'll try to help as much a possible.
Install just like a normal THIRD PARTY .APK

Not familiar with HTC Hub. Not even sure what version of HTC Sense I have. I dont know how to check for versions.

Me either (dont know how to check sense version.)
But there are some signs. When you press personalize, does a path drawer come up and have Skins, Wallpaper, Scenes, Widgets, Apps, Shortcuts, Folders, etc..?
If it just has the last four mentioned when you tap and hold your home screen, then you don't have HTC SENSE 2.0
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

When I hit personalize I get scenes, home wallpaper, and default ring tone. Im almost positive I have Sense v1.
So how can I get these things to work with Metamorph? I have all the files downloaded and ready to go.

I'm not sure, because I never needed or wanted to use MetaMORPH.
Can you post a screenie of your Home and Personalize menu?
And what phone do you have? I'm sure you just unpack the zip in MetaMORPH.
I don't know much about it.

I have the HTC Incredible through Verizon.

Okay. So now we know your stock ROM was Sense 1.0, what Sense Rom do you have now?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

Oh, and a really nice ROM for DInc w/ Sense 2.0 is Myns Warm Z twopointtwo. You can change the skins to the ones you have downloaded.
By far my Favorite ROM for DInc when I had mine two days ago. Lol.

The stock HTC sense rom. I havent flashed any custom roms. I like the default one from HTC. I just want to change some minor things. I have a dialer picked out. I want to get rid of the verizon branding in my notification bar, and I want to change the battery icon and thats it.

Okay then you have to use metamorph. I'm pretty sure there's a tutorial somewhere around here. On the Myns Warm thread, there's a video tutorial on using MetaMORPH to change keyboards. I'm positive it works the same for battery and dialer.

After some researching I think my issue is with the amount of space in the /system folder. Only issue is I cant see that folder with Adao File Manager.

Themes decrease ROMs?

Hello I will start to run Super D since it's the fastest US Donut ROM, my question is if I put a theme like Elegance, will it in any tiny way slow the rom down???
If anyone one has some tips to improve even more speed, feel free to leave a comment below, im alanrocks15 and i approve this message. =3
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Themes are only replacement image files. If the files are somehow not optimized, or use higher number of colors/bigger resolution, possibly, but it will be negligible how much it affects the phone.
Well it depends on what your theming and how you theme it. If your using an app in the market such as openhome or any of those on top of a rom. Then yes your phone will run like poopy but if you download metamorph on market and download the individual files to theme it. Then you will be ok. I themed a bunch of stuff when I used 1.6 supercsdi rom. Worked fine. Metamorph has a page on xda. List all files for that.
Hope this helped

Also just uno. People do make .zip files that you can flash for themes and such. You don't always need metamorph.

[THEME] Gingerbread/Dark Gingerbread for CM 6.1.1 stable (v4 12-17-2010)

There is now a fully functional full gingerbread theme for 6.1.1 located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883291
Theme for cm 6.1.1 stable. Flash the DarkGB.zip (or RegularGB.zip) for the task bar, unzip GBLPtheme.zip to your sd and use LauncherPro for the dock and icons. Also attached is the "Fabolous" Gingerbread Keyboard in a flashable zip.
Included is a Gingerbread XML to put in your CMThemes folder on your sdcard. Then select it from cyanogenmod settings and tweaks and reboot to apply.
Always nandroid first.
Not responsible for....anything bad =)
Made with help of the awesome uotkitchen http://Circle.glx.nl
12-17-2010: Slight color adjustment
12-17-2010: Updated for 6.1.1
12-15-2010: Updated to better reflect gingerbread. Gingerbread pulldown bar added and item/background colors updated. XML CMTheme file added for font color adjustments. Battery percentage indicator removed since you could barely see it anyway and to better reflect Gingerbread.
12-15-2010: Added Regular Gingerbread flashable zip.
Sweet! But could you make a regular theme?

He didn't make a theme so to speak! He just used the online kitchen to cook up a new Status Bar!
Yeah, I don't have time to make themes...I just share what I've already made for myself from time to time.
I found a really nice one that I've tested and works great...you name it its got it. The catch is it seems to break all tethering (and wifi tether doesn't even have a place to configure it) I haven't heard anyone else complain...so I'm not sure what the issue is with our little phones. I'm not sacrificing my tether for pretty...so I"m using what I made. That said...
Anyone interested in playing, the zip they have in the first post has to be opened...the GingerFroyo-v2.0-(Froyd-1.7.2)-signed.zip needs to be named something without parenthesis and periods in it so you can flash with rom manager. Then follow the rest of their instructions (it even adds an xml file for cyanogen tweaks to set your fonts, etc)

[REQ] Notification menu power widgets

Could someone port this mod to aria?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901540
Sent from my HTC Aria using XDA App
I'm not sure I understand.
These notification menu widgets are included by default in the Cyanogen ROMS and can easily be added in other ROMS or stock ROMS using a free app from the Marketplace called Widgetsoid 2.x.
Or did I miss something really obvious?
This is just a hack...you should download it and flash it to see if it works...but first (as always) do a Nandroid backup of your current ROM. This hack doesn't seem to be included in any ROMs
No you are not missing anything. Widgets 2.x is nice but a wee bit hefty. The developer is planning to incorporate the kitchen sink on the next release

I made a windows .bat file to use adb to install all the ones I was able to find from that thread

I don't think they will change just by changing the skin. That requires editing the framework-res.apk as far as I know.
The only problem I am having with these is there seems to be a bug when in the car dock which puts the screen in Landscape mode. If I choose a custom skin from one of the Desire's it works until the car dock puts it in landscape then it either reverts to a stock htc skin or it puts a random custom skin on until you rotate the phone to portrait mode. Can this be fixed by someone? I really like these but they don't work very well in the dock.
Edit: I thought it used a random Custom skin once but it turns out it was a stock hTC so yea none of thses skins work in Landscape with the car dock.

Check out Gadget's skins, they support landscape, I believe the current ones linked do not.
Thanks, I did download one of his. I like all of his but there is one out of these on this post I'm partial to. I asked gadget in an off cuff way if he could fix one. I'm currently going with the Uber Green one. If people don't have a car dock then they wont know there is anything wrong. It only affects those that do use the car dock.

Manually Changing Icons

So I want to change a few icons. I found the location for the SMS/MMS Icon (ic_launcher_smsmms.png) so i just have to change the name of the icon file that i have to ic_launcher_smsmms.png and then put it in place of the original Icon file. Correct ?
I can't seem to find the one for the video player, there is no ic_launcher_videoplayer.png like i figured there would be. So if someone could help me find the location of that, and the email one and the app drawer launcher icon. I would greatly appreciate it.
So I renamed the icon file that i want to use, to ic_launcher_smsmms.png and tried to move it to the correct directory, but everytime i click paste, it moves it one directory back from the one i want, how do i get it to replace the current png with the new one ?
Where do you find the pngs?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that's not the name of the icon for the sms/mms app. You'll find that icon in the actual mms.apk.
Video Player would be the same thing, you would find the icon for that in the Video Player.apk.
That is where I found that file at. In the .apk. I was told that was the right one. If not then which is?
Sent using my rooted LG Revolution
Just use a Launcher if you're not already and long press the icon and hit replace or whatever the option is and look through your phone for the new icon you got. May, not be what you want but it's a not less of a hassle then what you're doing.
That only changes the icons in your home screen. I want them changed all around. I don't care if its a bigger hassle lol if I cared I wouldn't be asking. So can someone tell me what to do. I am thinking that I can't just change it through the phone can I. I have to dump the files on my computer. Then change the ones I want and the flash it to my phone. Am I correct ?

If i understand correctly, in order to change the icons, you'd have to edit each individual apk. For instance, if you want to change the icon for facebook you have to edit facebook.apk but if there is an update for it, then you have to edit the apk again.
Thats why im looking into making a theme for adw launcher. That way no matter how many times an app is updated, it will display the themed icon. I chose adw since its the launcher that comes with GingerVolt.
Sent from my VS910 4G using Tapatalk
so I was right about how to do it. But like you said I would have to re do it everytime the app gets updated. So your idea on making an adw icon pack. Would that change the icons in the app drawer too. Not just the ones in the launcher and on the homescreen?
