app to make notification led usefull? - Thunderbolt Themes and Apps

Hello all,
I am looking for an app/mod to allow the notification led to remain on instead of blinking when receiving an SMS/email.
As it is the led is just about useless and I keep missing messages. I can't have sound or vibration on. My blackberry, Droid and Droid x all allowed this, amazing HTC is so limited.
Thank you,

I would be happy with the ability to show different colors for different things like my OG droid did. Blue for text messages, green for app related things like Wordfeud, etc.

How do you make the screen come on when you receive an message, SMS or email, when your in vibrate or silent mode. My iPhone did this.

I am pretty sure Handcent SMS does this. I know it will pop up the screen when you get a text.

I use SMS PopUp, When you receive a text message your screen awakens with the message and a option to reply, close or to delete. Works great. The most important thing you have to remember is when setting the app up you must shut the stock text message notification off.

just out of curiosity, wouldnt that kill the battery with the screen lighting up all day long?

I would like this too. The LED blinks way to fast for me to even notice if I have a message. I rather it just stays on or at least blinks slower.

This wotked on evo but doesnt seem to work on tbolt. Can anyone get it to work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746732

Anyone ask him to do one for the Bolt?

does anyone know if it's possible to get more colors out of the led then the standard orange/green to specify types of notifications like blue for text message?

Check out Light Flow in the market. It works too.

I was ecstatic about this until i downloaded it and saw I could select green, orange, and dark orange aka stock.

I have not tested SMS popup with my new Thunderbolt (just got today ) but it reeked havoc on my DInc.
So I used the following two apps, while there was no popup, they worked amazingly.
For the led notification light:
Blink
Message notification reminder:
Easy Reminder
I would post links directly to the apps but I do not have permission yet (need 8 posts)

Try blink from the market, i have not tried it myself yet but it worked with my last phone.
Edit: nevermind just realized the post above mine mentioned this already and I just tried it and the only color it would work for is green.

i use "noled" and it turns the screen on very dim tho, with a little sms box that floats around, u can use it for emails missed calls charging etc..

Yeah it looks like we're restricted hardwarewise

now that's a shame!

Missed Call - LED notification for missed calls

I have written a little application that gives LED notification for missed calls. (the default behaviour gives you only LED notifications for SMS,email and voicemail)
Features: Customizable sound, vibration, led, repeat notifications for missed calls, incoming calls, sms, bluetooth enabled/disabled, bluetooth device connected, airplane mode, battery level low, etc.
Version 0.8.9 includes a Locale plug-in! For all the Droid users make sure that you have got "Missed Call for Android 2.0" installed.
You can try it out if you want.

Android Market - Missed Call
FEEDBACK:
Just reply to the thread here or tweet me: http://twitter.com/missed_Call
This is pretty cool, now all we need is a Bluetooth notification light.
Thanks mister. This is just what I needed.
The next updates will be released in the Android market only. But I will update the thread here when the next version is available.
Hey i emailed you earlier about what the status icon does. i just wanted to say thanks i understood now. thanks for the quick reply too.

Awesome job. Interface exaclty like it should be. Working exaclty as expected. Strange feeling to have such app on this new platform. Most of apps is raw a meat. =)
your app rocks. originally, i gave you 4 stars and said "add option to change colors"
and you did that in the update. i can't change my rating in market, but i now give you 5 stars.

You rock! I downloaded this a few days ago and just got the update- SO COOL!
I dont know if you are looking for ideas or taking requests, but ability to play a sound every few (cusomizable ) minutes would be stellar! I miss my reminders for missed calls, texts, etc from WM as my phone is usually in its sleeve
Better yet, your app taking over all the notifications to give us selectability in color and blinking rate of the LED (and hopefully sound!) for ALL notifications, that would just be a "dream"!
I'm thinking about all kinds of different customisations for the notifications. Today I added SMS LED support. Have fun with it.
Regards!
if you keep it up you may want to get a "donation" Paypal linkie
This app is awesome I'm still hoping for an audio reminder every X (customizable) minutes using X (customizable) alert in either this app or another similar one, but for now this is great
I'm thinking about adding this reminders. The problem is that they will drain the battery. But I will test these things and add them.
PS: If you got a forced close while stopping the service it would be nice if you could inform myself. I know it has to to with the stopping of notifications but I can't figure out the excat bug.
Looking at the phone seems to drain the battery. I once thought about using GPS and it drained the battery. Just saying battery seems to drain it. I wouldnt worry about the notifications hahaha
Well yeah. I'm looking into that. I will add some Timer as well to make it possible to shut down the notification after a certain amount of time. But well I just need a break at the moment.
a break? Get back to work!
seriously though, great work! I am looking forward to seeing your future versions.
In the next release we will have some bugs fixed. SMS and Call LED stops blinking now when you read the messages or look at the missed calls. (which was a hard peace of work since it is completly undocumented ) In addition we will have a permanent status icon when it is set. (it will not disappear when you clear the status bar) And last but not least we will have a silent incoming call notification. (LED flasing while incoming call in changeable color)
Regards!
add reminders please!
Ah yeah. I will look into them.
Hello again,
I downloaded the newest version of the app with sms support. Its works good but found a couple "bugs". First is, that sometimes the led turns green, but I clear it and then its blue again like it was set. Happens from time to time. Last, if its possible, can the led take precedence over the charging light?
Also, what is the timer for? Is it the duration the led stays on like in a blink or what? Sorry having a problem undestand the on off thingy.
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Your first problem is fixed now in the current release. (0.3.7) I'm sorry but the system doesn't allow overriding the charging LED. I tried that serveral times but there is no chance to do it in the current Android release. (confirmed by Google developers)
I renamed the timer now. It is the interval that the LED is blinking. 300ms/300ms leads to very fast blinking for example.
Regards!

trackball colors, stock unrooted att n1 w/ frf85b

hi folks...
sorry if its been asked and answered elswhere... i didnt see this elsewhere on the forum.
when i upgraded my stock att n1 to 2.2, the trackball began glowing various colors for certain notifications. i know that a rooted phone can have this feature set for specific color for notification, but on stock 2.2, i cant find a guide to what glows what color, or how (if able?) to change the color settings.
sometimes my trackball now glows green, and sometimes white.. no rhyme or reason. anyone here have a link, or info on how to associate the meanings of trackball colors?
thanks
look for blink in the market

This is a feature of FROYO. For applications that support the color notification you can set it in the apps settings. I know on my I have text messages set to one color, gvoice to another and email to yet another.

thanks for this info. looked at each of the programs you mentioned though, and it seems i dont have the same options that you mention above. can you be a bit more specific with how you access the setting?
ive entered the settings area of each program (gmail, voice, talk) and for gmail i have notification bar, ringtone, vibrate, and notify once. for voice, in addition to the gmail options (minus notify once), i have light option (but not color setting... just blink or not blink). for talk, i have notification bar, ringtone, and vibrate... thats it.
i did try the blink application posted above, but i dont use sms or mms (just voice), and i really dont need colors for incoming calls... just wanted distinct colors for voice, talk, and gmail.
thanks.
The key point is this:
"For applications that support the color notification you can set it in the apps settings".
The stock apps don't have settings to change the colour of the notification. Things like Handcent SMS/ChompSMS/SMS Popup provide notifications that have specified colours, which you can use (and disable the stock apps notifications).
In a similar way, GMail notifier can be used instead of the stock gmail app notification to allow you to customise the colour of your gmail notification.
ok. i get the point.
thanks for the responses.
You're not able to change the colour of the incoming call LED, as the colour can only be changed when the screen is off, and when a call comes in, the screen lights up.
Is it a new thing since froyo, that you only get a trackball illumination for notifications other than calls, when the screen is OFF?
I am new to Froyo, like the majority of other Nexus users who do NOT frequent these forums. So I am also new to the coloured trackball and getting my head around it.
I see a few other new froyo newbies reporting their trackball does not illuminate any more since their OTA. But like me, they probably overlooked that apart from phone calls, it seemingly only notifies you when the screen is OFF. Make sense when you think about it, as notification will be in the notification bar with screen on and no need for trackball glow.
Next question.. What is supposed to display if two concurrent notifications occur for different colored events. Just the first color or perhaps a sequence (or even a blend of the two colors - joking)? Seems to me it just displays the most recent item. Is that correct?
A little annoying that the native google apps themselves don't support the colored trackball.
Anyway seems plenty of room for 3rd party apps to improve things. Like occulting different colors at the same time for differing notification sources. Multiple flashes to quantify number of new notifications.
Tried Blink but it did not really fit the bill for me.
So I am currently running with just ChompSMS telling me a unique color for SMS and I am looking for way to improve the rest.
Green is GV. It's controlled by the app.

[Q] How to Turn on screen when there's a notification?

Hi there:
Is there a way to make it so the screen turns on when I get a notification? The only thing that happens currently is a sound is played. I could have sworn when I first got it that the screen turned on as well. Any help would be great. Thanks!
I have a similar requirement and therefore would like to bring this issue up to seek for your help.
Whenever an SMS comes, there are a sound and a small icon of an envelop appearing at the top of the phone for about 1 ~ 2 seconds. If the phone is with me then I know there is an SMS. Other cases i.e. when I am outside and leave my phone in my room, I will not know that I have SMS on my phone until I open the message application (as there is no notification like missed call)!
Can anyone let me know how to set the SMS icon (the small yellow envelop) remaining on the notification bar until I open and read the SMS?
Thanks in advance.
have you tried NOLED ?
Yes, searched and installed NoLED from Market. This application is greate, it satisfies my requirements!
Many thanks to AllGamer and all xda-developers!

LED Notifications

The search is on for an App that does LED notifications. I'll try and keep this thread updated as the search continues.
Wish List:
- no LED on while charging (so it can be used for notifications)
- Red Blink for missed call
- Blue Blink for new text
- Green blink for new email
Can't be hard. This was the most amazing thing ever for my Blackberry. There's a video on youtube, i'm not yet "allowed to post links" so here goes...
youtube.com /watch?v=xPmq-9eI_KQ
- KrossXC
I've seen red and blue, but not a green led.
When do u see the blue LED light?
Colored trackball was single handedly my FAVORITE feature on my Blackberry, my Sidekick and my NexusOne.
You would think they would make the notification light a BIT easier to control.... But you had to root the Nexus One just to be able to control them.
If people are making apps to mimic notification LEDs for the other Galaxies, I think its only a matter of time until a dev makes a nice LED notification app.

When the battery has charged fully (which seems to be 95% ).
So has anything been found allowing customizable led notifications? I'm running Nebula 1.0.7 and I'm not sure if it's just the rom, DK28, or whatever that does not seem to have an led notification setting. Unless I'm just that incompetent to not be able to find it... I just checked my brother's stock Epic, and the led notifications are in the sound/display settings but it's not on my phone.
I was having a hard time getting any led notifications with anything but the stock sms app. I had to open the custom color option in handcent to get my led to blink. Sadly I can't get handcent, go sms, or sms popup to give me a blue led no matter what I do. Also, I used the led test menu by using the dialer code and I can't get a green led. I'm assuming the epic is without one, but I can get purple to come up.
Samsung only put a blue and red led, which significantly limits our led colors (red, blue or purple)
I tried running handcent to get an led notification for my text messages, but I couldn't get anything, even when I used simply red at normal blinking speed. Any suggestions of what to do?
Uh with any DK28 rom I run (running midnight rom right now) I can set my led blue for incoming txts in go sms and it works fine. I tried gettin the purple led to work but no luck

I've actually just tried getting it to flash purple and it worked. I was using Handcent and under the setting > notification settings > notification settings > color of led > green
I recently started using Go SMS (similar to handcent, but I like the UI better) and was able to set my incoming SMS notifications to blink blue, while emails etc still blink red. If anything, it's a start. I haven't tried to squeeze a purple out of it.
bump.
I'm mainly looking for LED notifications to work while the phone is charging. Seems there should be something simple to keep the charge LED state from overriding any LED notifications. Flip it around to make notifications take priority over charge state.
Try NoLED from the market. I use it for that same purpose. It doesnt use the LED itself, but displays an icon of the type of notification. Default are SMS, calls and email, but you can "monitor" other types of notifications and will display the icon for that app. Icons skip around the screen so you wont have to worry about burning LEDs.

I'm aware of the app, but since the Epic has a hardware LED that does work, I'd like to see someone figure it out. If I knew anything about android I'm sure I could poke around, but I don't know really where to start.
Plenty of phones have LEDs and I dont think any of them do what you ask for.

droid 1 did, and you didn't even have to root it.
I had orange for my SO, purple for best friend, green for email, blue for texts, white for for missed calls. red for low battery, which i could set myself.
Hmmm, I have an Epic, I think I will take a look into doing this.
i would love to see this too on the epic. before i upgraded to froyo i only had the red led notification after froyo i have both red and blue. i do miss this from my bb...berrybuzz was cool as ish!!!
Well I know how to turn the LEDs on and off via the cmd line, might be another way to do it using an available method within the SDK so that we do not need root to accomplish this.
The app to control this needs to run as a service so it can control the state of the leds, controling how long the light flashes, what color it flashes, the pattern, etc.
The good side of this is I am pretty sure I can make the app indicate all three notifications, meaning go to red, then to blue, then to purple which would indicate a text message, email, and missed call. I will work on this a little tomorrow if I get time and hopefully more on Sunday with a hopeful test version out this Monday maybe?
Best Regards,
Stericson

Solved: galaxy s screen turn on when recieving text message

I was just about to ask the same question! No matter what I do, the screen turns on when I receive a text message, I don't want this to happen. I am on JM1.. Is it a bug? Do any of the later firmwares suffer from this?
I use launcher pro but its have just the standard slide to unlock lock screen.
Driving me crazy also!
G.
It's not a bug, it's a feature
sorry butt whyyyy , whyyyy , whyyyy you think that this is a bug ???
Most other Android phones have an option to stop that happening, for instance my gf's HTC desire. Several of the SMS programs, e.g. SMS popup, handcent, and chompSMS all have options to not light up the screen when receiving a text message, and on the desire, it honours those options - on the galaxy, it doesn't.
What is the point in the screen lighting up when you receive a message? If it's in your pocket, you won't see it so its just a waste of battery.
G.
I'm seeing as an advantage because SGS does not have notification LED. If I left it on my desk, at least the light will catch my attention, if I didn't hear the notification tone.
Hey guys, I figured it out. You must use a program called auto starts. Then completely disable all stock messaging app instances. I am currently using handcent and everything is working perfect.
