Daily usage for the LG 2x - LG Optimus 2x

Hi all,
For those already using the LG 2x as their daily phone, may i just ask how's the performance in terms of daily usage? Some reviews says it's speedy, so does benchmarks but i have also read reviews that said it should be much better considering that it's dual core and at times, there's some slight stuttering due to the custom froyo skin that LG has.
I'm presently using a Nexus S and it's smooth as butter running custom roms and oc kernel. I'll probably be able to sell off the phone at no loss and top up something like USD120 to get the LG 2x when it arrives in Singapore in the next 2-3 weeks.
Anyone here that have tried both phones and able to provide me with some insights on if i should bother switching? How's the real life use (browsing net, playing music, batt life while playing games etc) difference felt between the processing powers of the two phones?
As it is, the Nexus S can do everything i want except for those Tegra 2 only games. I don't really need a 1080 HD video capability, HDMI mirroring and the 16 Gig space, although limiting is not a deal breaker for me.
Has there been any indications that it'll be able to run custom roms and kernel soon? i know paul from modaco is looking into it at the moment.
Thanks all!

Hi there, I'm also considering between Nexus S and Optimus 2x.
Would appreciate any feedbacks from the users here.

About custom roms - Paul said yesterday that today would be available beta of clockworkmod for download, everything seems that O2X will be great phone for custom roms and stuff Probably there will be functioning Clockwork Mod and developers cooking even before you even get your O2x )

It is lightning fast, and much faster than the Nexus S on stock 2.3. I know because I tried them side by side.
The reviews are correct though, there is some stuttering. I'd say it's annoying as hell, but I'm an impatient guy when it comes to tech-gadgets. I'm sure it's only software issues that will be addressed, either by LG or by custom ROM's.
Sometimes it takes about 5-10 seconds to open the apps list when adding them to the home screen, and sometimes it's as quick as expected.
Sometimes it will stutter while scrolling but most of the time it's smooth as butter. You can clearly tell that there's nothing wrong with the performance because of the smoothness, but there are undoubtedly some serious flaws in the implementation causing intermittent stutter that needs to be addressed.
Playing games is as smooth as I've ever seen. It's simply amazing; There's no stutter or lag AT ALL, so the stuttering you see in the menus seem to be fairly isolated. So far I have tested Angry Birds and AB Rio in addition to Fruit Ninja + Samurai II from Tegra Zone. Samurai II on the TV looks better than a Wii game and is closer to PS3 to be honest.
Another evidence of the incredible performance is the Gallery app. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw how quick and smooth it is. My Nexus One is like an old Sony Ericsson with Symbian in comparison. If you haven't tried an SE phone with Symbian, consider yourself lucky.

One thing also worth considering is the fact that Froyo is not really optimised for DualCore phones. When gingerbread hits the LG 2x then the speed difference between it and other single core phones should become even more apparent.

the only problem i have with o2x is LG's poor implementation of the LG skin on it. LG's UI w/c i believe can easily be fixed by tweaks/updates or custom roms. that's why im quite happy that g2x will come with vanilla android froyo.
hope LG recognizes the 'MINOR' flaws and stuttering when on the menu/app drawer. but besides that, all other things like browsing, gaming, camera, texting, calling etc are Great and is superior than any other phones in the market as of the moment.

Gingerbread isn't currently optimized to take advantage of the dual core devices either... Hence the information about a version 2.4 of Gingerbread dropping in April. http://goo.gl/b7P0g

I had mine for 8 days now and Im still not used to how fast it is!
My last phone was a HTC Hero, wich I really cant compare it to, but I have played around a lot with iPhone 4, Samsung Galaxy S and Desire HD and my phone eat em for breakfast. Mutitasking games like Angry Birds and Reckless Drivning is really fast and smooth.
Even though 02X dont have 2D accelerated graphics and iPhone 4 does, the smoothness in the menus are pretty much the same.

Amazing fast phone used my old desire (moved to my wife) and it scared the heck out of me found it very slow go figure lol
My son and I uses both the 2x and coming from desires...
Love the screen over the amoled great quality only notice with black when playing not a full screen movie... But the again almost not seen this...
Browsing the net is great and fast deciding which browser to use dolphin mini or opera the latest with flash.
Actually we found the camera great and the sound is great too...
Running myself launcherpro and the diskspace room 1.45gb to store apps beside the sd.
That's what i hated with my desire lol 148 mb
Battery life is building up nice now after 12 days 38 hours normal usage and heavy 8 hours...
lol and we have gorilla glass too
Bottom line an amazing fast phone just love it.

The stutter/lag I saw some of seems to be as good as gone after upgrading with all the latest stuff from MoDaCo.

Ok guys just a quick one... Checked out the phone for quite a bit at the retail shop...
First Impressions...
It's both fast & slow at times. However believe that this should be able to be addressed via software eg custom roms etc... Games tried all seem smooth. Opening of apps at times there was lag but it was somewhat random and can't quite pinpoint. Other times it was fast.
Installed Golauncher, ADW and LauncherPro and all seemed to work alright. Do note was just a quick one at the shop...
For those into it...
Quadrand Std - 2600 - 2700 +
Linpack Score - 36 MegaFlops...
Neocore - er sorry don't recall & first time running it... 75???
Nothing else really significant to say except that in a nutshell this phone has potential...

Why is HTC Desire faster than O2X?

Hi guys,
My girlfriend has a 1 year old HTC Desire and its really pi**ing me off that it is faster than my brand new dual core O2X...
Her Desire is stock rom.... full of crap because she never deletes apps yet its still noticeably smooth and faster than my phone which regularly slows down / hangs...
How can 2 processors be faster than one? Is the LG software really that bad that they can make something that should be twice as fast, actually 5 times slower....
BTW I have had my O2X as stock and as MCR FR12... no difference, they are both SLLLOOOOWWWW (not knocking Paul or MCR one bit though, appreciate all the work he does...)
Simple answer? Yes

My guess would be LG fail at software, I suspect it will be totally different with CM.
I have a Desire and can confirm that.

What exactly is faster? Sense vs. LG Home?
Internet browsing?
Games?
Sense on the desire series is lightning fast and smooth, HTC has been working a long time to tune it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but i read some parts of android are more optimized for the qualcomm processors (vs. any other cpu).
LG made some adjustments in the caching of apps to speed up boot times (and making the rest of the experience slower) , but paul's rom 'fixed' this.
I did a side by side comparison between the desire HD and the o2x and for now the dhd feels a lot more mature; untill you start up a game and I hope newer roms (actually read cyanogenmod here; in time don't think the first few nightlies will be much difference) can make this device as fast as it should be.
Installing another launcher like launcherpro or adw will help a lot, but will not magically fix lg's software flaws. Custom rom is the way to go
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Wait for the gingerbread update which should come within the next month - and lets hope LG made a better job building that rom
I consider the current froyo rom as only temporary - which is also why I still havent bothered with custom roms
Basically the roms now are all based on the poor rom from LG, and new roms needs to be made when the gingerbread update comes anyhow.

Well then you have a problem on your O2X...
We had 2 * HTC Desires S (still one kept for the wife) and those are a lot slower lol in everything We compared both with the two O2X.
When I have to do something for my wife on the old HTC Desire S well it scares now the heck out of me lol that slow
Amazing one year back I found it fast
I have 2 HTC Desire also - and they arent faster than the O2x by any means - but the rom is smoother. It doesnt have the slowdowns and lags you experience with the O2x, for instanse when installing apps in the market application. But open the gallery or the video list and you will see how much faster the O2x is, or play a game etc.
The O2x definetely are alot faster than the Desire, but the rom just needs optimisation in a few areas

Sorry forgot to mention I am already using Launcher Pro....
Not sure how people can say "the rom is smoother on Desire but it isn't faster"?!?!
Ok so the O2X might benchmark faster than the Desire, but who cares if the phone is unusable whilst installing something from the market... i'm talking "real world" here...
I came from HTC Desire too, and initially when I got the O2X, it was definitely not as smooth or fast as the Desire - especially when I ran it with GingerBread on the LauncherPro UI. Then I rooted the O2X and flashed MCR which improved things, but still felt laggy. Lately I have been using other custom ROMs (all based on MCR Fr12) and the latest versions are really very smooth and fast. Better than Desire? Not sure anymore; but I am definitely much happier with my O2X now with custom ROMs. I am now waiting for CM7 to come to O2X; that would really make the O2X show its true colors!
HTC desire is way slower than LG 2X by hardware
It is just that the newest HTC Sense for Desire is so much better than the LG stock roms.
So far all of the custom roms are based on the original LG rom, and even with the fix and optimization, it isn't getting us anywhere so far.
Im having this issue as well..
My incredible s is way faster for internet browsing...
Opening an app is fast on incredible s...
The screen display, games and videos that made me keep this 2x...
Still i wait for the next update and decide...
fantastic phone for sure..

Simple - theres only 2 places where the Desire are "faster" or smoother if you please. On the standard launcher swyping between the homescreens and when multitasking during app installation. These two issues tend to make people "beleive" the Desire is faster - its not, even if the launcher seems smoother when swyping.
The swyping is only an issue of the standard LG launcher - installing any other thirdparty launcher and swyping will be just as smooth/fast or even faster if you configure it to be under settings, than the Desire launcher.
The Multitasking lag during app installation is a bug on the LG, still not fixed - so this is still an issue. But its one single litle bug - this is hardly an issue to call the Desire faster overall and its not like you are constantly installing apps causing the phone to lag. Its a few seconds then you can move back to normal operation again.
But in any other operation of the phone the LG are much faster than the Desire, basically because the hardware is faster. Open a webpage and it loads faster, open the marked and the application listing loads alot faster, open the gallery and the thumbnails are updated much faster, swype between pictures are much smoother, open the video list and the thumbnails loads instantly, play a video is much smoother and allow much higher quality video, open any application and it loads faster, play any game and it plays smoother with better graphics (some of these games wont even be playable at all on the Desire), open any application that loads any type of content, like "pulse" and the content is loaded faster, Youtube loads and operates alot faster, videotrailer software etc. etc. etc.
In short the software on the LG are still a litle immature - propably because it was rushed by LG to be first on market with a dual core mobile. The HTC Desire's sense UI has been developed on for almost 2 years by HTC (before Desire on Legend for instance), so this is and feels less immature - it doesnt mean the Desire is faster.
My gf's Desire isn't as fast as my O2x, even with CM7 on it.
The hardware of the o2x is definitely faster, so it can only be the stock rom which subjective makes the mobile slower.
Keep in mind that LG focused to be the first company publishing a dual core mobile, mainly for PR.
The ROM probably played a minor role for the marketing guys ...
Hopefully they make it better with ginger bread. Otherwise, there's CM7 which will work for sure a lot better and smoother than the current stock-ROM
greets
It's just the UI that's faster on the Desire; the hardware itself is much slower, and outclassed even by same-generation devices (Nexus One, SGS). Any benchmarking tool will tell you that and show you in a nice little graph;
(don't mind me, I just love showing off my e-peen score )

Wow , thats what I call a big e-peen
My mate has a desire HD and had to do some surfing to get him to a webpage and I can tell you that it is sOOOOOooooooo much slower than my O2X (with stock rom, rooted with pauls patches.tweaks). It took a LOT longer to render webpages, Especially if they had flash on them than my O2X.

thing is, what do you use/want more: a snappy UI or more horse power in benchmarks? I might sounds like an apple fanboy now but I use the UI 99% more then a benchmark so for me the UI is more important. I'm back to my cm7 powered powerhouse that i call the desire HD for now; the lag in the UI is mostly part of that choice. Although I do agree that high demanding tasks like a 3D game are a lot smoother on an o2x

LO2X will defeat SGSII with gingerbread? i'm not sure at all! =S

I'm just hungry....
What phone is better? a lot of people say, the optimus 2x just need gingerbread to "kill the SGSII" but....
On some youtube videos, shows, the O2X can't play 1080p flash fluently... and that was very disapointing....
Can you give me a clear ( no fanboy ) opinion.
thanks to all
nothing's better than SSGS2 at this moment

Hmmm not sure about Gingerbread yet. But since LG's working very hard on it (judging from the delays) I would believe they would have came out with something good. As for now, we can still actually beat the SGSII's processor optimisations, exynos may look better on paper but on software, its the Tegra 2 that wins due to all the tegra games out there. But seriously, its not good to compare now, the O2X haven't even got the Gb update yet, I tried CM7 on my O2X and found it to be surprisingly smooth and multi touch responsive, Gb could be one of the reasons why the SGSII is so smooth. Let's not give up hopes on LG give them a chance
maybe they ain't working hard, they might be drinking some coffee while reading newspaper.... who knows ...

yeah.,hope Lg will provide GB in near future..
i love my o2x
According to androidworld.nl the optmimus one gb update should arive in a couple of weeks and we have to wait another 2 or 3 months

we just have to wait ..
This is stupid... Why would their best phone users wait to GB, while the low-end phone gets it?
Anyway, 1080p doesn't lagg on my phone at all.
But I don't think it'll ever beat SGSII, unless the GB software is so amazing, and optimized.
Since the sgs2 costs about 100 euro's more than the O2x, i don't expect it to be faster. But they're both bloody fast, so does it really matter?

Based on what they have done with 2.2 I wouldn't count my chickens!. What makes you think LG will do better with 2.3?.
LG are CRAP with software, no matter what version they bring out.
I have owned both and went back to the o2x. Here are my reasons.
Build quality, the o2x is a far superior device. It feels great in the hand and materials used give a much nicer feel. The gsii is plasticy.
Size, the gsii was too big for me for one handed use. The o2x is slimmer which makes one handed use perfect.
Screen, obviously the gsii has a great screen especially in direct sunlight but the o2x has a better than average so this is no problem.
Speaker, important for me. With volume+ app o2x is just as loud as the gsii's good speaker. Without it i found the o2x too quiet so this was a great find for me.
Performance, both have great processors and more than anyone needs today. Performance around the phone, apps and browsing web for everyday use I could not notice the difference.
Camera, both great. Video capture is better on the Samsung.
Ui, I use custom rom's and don't like either out of the box. If I had to choose one I would go with the LG. Its closer to stock android.
Battery life is much the same as both will need a charge every day.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA Premium App
as long as they don't screw up like with the leaked G2x gingerbread, all the power will be with the custom ROMs ... so please LG, release proper HALs and drivers for 2.3 userspace.
but i love O2X, i think her dessign is beautyfull!!!
And the SGSII it's cool, but plasticy....
Tegra 2 is better on Games ( GPU ) and Exyros is better on powerhorse ( CPU )
I have readed, the Optimus 2X at the same clock, clock per clock, O2X is faster.
Thanks for all those answers
I've got a friend with the sgsii and it's nice, gb really makes the difference. However, tegra 2 is the way to go for gaming and he's had issues with some games not running at all.

I also use my phone a lot for gaming and the O2X just blows away the SG2S in this department.
My main use is for web browsing and with miren on both My optimus renders faster and less stuttery when flash is on the page than my mates SG2S.
I am very happy with my 2X even thought all items except games rendering beats SGSII. My only hope is that more developers use Tegra SDK to develop games and maybe even application. Make full use of the 8 cores in the GPU you know what I mean... Haha...
O2x will beat in graphics processing. However, normal processing / graphical display = SGII.
O2x the biggest and most common flaw of all is the random reboots / SOD. Without this flaw, this phone would have been perfect. I personally got this problem and I got a replacement.
In terms of performance on GB, who knows? in terms of hardware, SGII > O2x EXCEPT for the Nvidia Tegra 2. So if you're talking about optimizing O2x, then SGII also could be optimized, hence, beating O2x.

LO2x cant beat SGSii... twice as large ram, imho better CPU... but on the other hand...why did you buy LO2x over SGSii? I did, coz it costed me 60% of sgsii price... and i dont regret it

[Q] From Milestone to a HD2, is it really a "worthy" upgrade?

Hi there, I've been a happy milestone user since February, but I recently started feeling that the low memory available (and locked bootloader) on it was kinda holding back the whole "android experience" (I know that thanks to the devs here the stone performs as good as the hardware can, a lot better than what a 256mb of ram would lead you to believe) so I went ahead and got an European hd2 (I don't live in the US, so I´ll get 3g on it just fine) the thing is that the HD2 hasn't yet arrive, and now I´m kinda having second thoughts, as what I first considered on the HD2 as an advantage (the whole, multi os thing) may in fact, be a weakness, because it may be faster than the milestone running android, but it probably won´t be as stable and that may again, hold me from getting the best from android, to be honest I've owned an htc tilt(which I loved to the point I'd flash it several times a day almost everyday and also put android on it), a touch pro 2 (Sprint version, flashed the bytes out of this one too, put android on it as well) both winmo phones had issues when running android (constant data corruption, battery life, etc) then I got the milestone and it's been performing rock solid to this day and I just want to know if you guys think I did the right thing from an "upgrading" point of view. thanks
ps: I sold the stone, I'll be delivering it to his new owner :-(
maybe
well..it all depends on what you want out of your phone. When I had my milestone I did consider the hd2.
If you want a multimedia phone the HD2 will destroy the milestone. More ram, bigger screen. It also runs miui better than the milestone so widgets dont die and your browsing experience will be better.
The touchscreen is the same with tru multitouch. not the like the nexus 1.
However if you want to use the phone for gaming quite frankly they both suck. The milestone I found when i had it had the gpu to play the latest games but not enough ram. However it has a qwerty keyboard so gba, snes emulators worked well. Also gamevill games like zennonia and destinia works great on the qwerty.
But then again the HD2 isnt much better. The bigger screen is nice and so is the 512mb of ram. However it is cursed with an adreno 200 gpu which is marginally slower the the sgx530 found in the milestone. The adreno 200 simply isnt going to cut it for any graphically demanding game. Even NOVA 1 lags slightly. You can forget about dungoen defenders on the HD2. though having said that chainfire does do HD2 drivers which seem to boost 3d performance a lot.
So basically yes from milestone to hd2 is an upgrade. sort of. HD2 has an unlocked bootloader so you can get custom kernels.
what i would recommned you to do if u get the hd2 is to install miui, install an undervolting kernel d then use a media player like rockplayer (software decoding) for video formats the the system player cannot play. Do that and you basically have an evo 4g which is one of the best phones of all time but sadly not available in the UK
Don't fret. I'm writting this from my touchpro 2 running xandroid (2.2 is what I'm using, 2.3 is out but buggy in beta). I haven't booted into winmo for actual use in months, and current uptime is almost a week. Android on winmo is much more stable than it used to be, batery performance is closer to what it should be. Bluetooth can still be a little funky (so I've heard, I don't use it), but hey, camera and and sound are rocking good now! Clocked at 600 MHz, performance in an active app is similar to what I see on my droid. Actually loading apps is much slower, I'm guessing because it is reading it from the sd rather than nand. But once loaded it is all good. I think you'll be happy with the HD2.

Galaxy SII
Why dont you try the Samsung Galaxy SII.. that has shown to have improved performance over HD2 and many other multicore processor phones and even has a better GPU...
Also again if you really need a new phone, thats completely a personal choice..
Even thought the RAM on milestone is limited it is good enough for daily basic use for browsing light games and avi videos etc...
But if you wanna play high demanding 3d games you gotta move on..
Also Milestone does not play HD videos smoothly.. tried everything to make it do this...
Its totally upto you... you have the cash, you have the interest go for it,
Also try not to fall in te marketing trap of these mobile companies where every new phone is branded as a must have and a zillion times better than your old one..
The final question is do you really need it.
Thanks all for your comments.
@thre3aces: yes, I know about the poor performance the HD2 gpu has when compared to the milestone's gpu, but I figured that a bit more of ram and processor horsepower would help the adreno 200 gpu a bit, although I am not expecting anything spectacular from it, I'm planning to play a few games, but what I really want is a smoother experience from my phone and judging by the youtube videos I've seen, when it comes to the GUI, the HD2 perform almost as good as a Desire HD if you don't try to push it too far anyways, so overall I think that I can live with a worse gpu performance as long as the rest performs better.
@cbeck:
I'm glad the TP2 is still going on strong, I loved that phone, best full physical qwerty keyboard on a phone ever.
@lord_neo: I'm on a tight budget right now, I sold the Milestone for $147 and got the HD2 used for $200, for that's a fair price for a mildly used HD2. And even if I could afford the SG2 I wouldn't buy as I don't like the feel of the phone on my hands, it's too slim for my taste, I admit it is a beast of a phone, though and the screen is awesome.

Yea so if ur gonna be trying to play dungeon defenders or nova 2 u will be fine with a hd2. Just a hint if u r gonna get it 2nd hand id recommend getting a new battery for it. Chances r since the hd2 is an old lone tags battery in it is probably very worn out

why is this thing so damn slow...

Just bought it yesterday, posting from it now in fact. Absolutely love the screen and form factor, its perfect in that sense...however with touchwiz 3.2 it was just unusable. Went to overcome, didn't help still too slow.
I'm now on cm9 and its still just so damn slow. The browser isn't smooth at all, playing games like anomaly hd and shadow gun just aren't smooth and seem like they're running at 15 fps, and trying to play HD content just depresses me because it doesn't work.
So I feel like I'm stuck with an amazing tablet which is just useless.
Is the situation ever going to get better? Am I doing something wrong? Should I just sell the thing even though I only got it yesterday? I watched a million videos before I bought it so I knew what to expect but using it constantly is just a different story...
Thats tegra2.

I would indeed seem that Tegra 2 is a broken CPU. Never seen a fully smooth tegra device, even a WVGA phone running ICS, its not a lack of power, its just poorly designed and isn't able to deliver its power. I wonder if it's a memory controller issue. The PS3 also has a broken GPU (also nVidia!), but because its a single closed system its been worked around.
You CAN improve things somewhat though. Games arent slow for me, or the browser, but the homescreen is bad. Overclocking helps (running at 1.4ghz here with no issues), change the CPU scaling threshold to 65% increase the sampling rate.
Different launchers improve things to, but none are 100% perfect. ADW EX has a silky smooth homescreen and app draw, but scrolling widgets are slow. Go launcher HD is slightly slower in the homescreen, but widgets are much better.
Part of the problem is Honeycomb which is slow, the ICS builds we have now arent perfect, but they aren't built from Samsung sources. Once we have real Sammy ROMs and Sources to work from things should improve.

Not sure what you mean by the scaling thing but I am overclocked to 1.4 atm using NoFrills...as for browsing depends on the browser and the website, with the stock some websites are okay, I'm using chrome at the moment to post this and its just so sluggish...
As for games, they literally look like they're running at 15fps, its ridiculous.
Very disappointed, really don't want to have to buy an iPad but I just don't see the point of having a product like this that's so brilliant in theory but so poorly executed with absolutely no polish...how can they even sell a product that's this slow...
All hd games and content run fine for me. I'm on stock, not rooted. Using GO Launcher HD. Maybe I got lucky?

You are judging Alpha software (CM9) as if it were final as in Stable status. Things will improve even more when Samsung releases source. In my experience, this tablet has been smooth with ADW EX. Perfectly usable, no stuttering, almost no lag, speedy and long lasting battery. Hey and this is with unfinished software (ICS) due to lack of source! I even had a good experience with firmware LA3. Just ditch the TouchWiz launcher. It helps a lot. If you still want to leave the tablet, be my guest, your choice.

You can use SetCPU to adjust the CPU thresholds. It basically changes load at which the CPU scales up its clock rate, makes it more responsive, but wont make it faster at its peak.
Also, remember to make sure the CPU Governor is set to Interactive and not On Demand.

Tbh I don't think this is a fair argument, the thing shipped with honeycomb finalized and even had an update, neither of which was alpha software and they both sucked and were completely unusable. The fact that I had to root and am currently using cm9 just so that I can use the thing reasonably is ridiculous...
I'm using cm9 and it is a lot better but I still find that games don't run smoothly, scrolling isn't smooth and there's a lot of lag
I do have it over locked to 1.4 and have governor set to interactive as well as I/O set to snoop. Its at least usable now but its so disappointing seeing such an amazing piece of hardware gone to waste. It kills the iPad on every level but the software just lets it down so badly....
We just need to wait, and hope for the best with ICS kernel. Tegra 2 ain't that bad, it's like every other Tegra 2 out there, it has its limitations, HD videos are one of them. Considering what my job is, i get a lot of Android tablets, but none of them were completely smooth, it's Android fault mostly.
The best i got so far was Transformer Prime, but that's Tegra 3, but the smoothest one of Tegra 2 ones was definitely Motorola Xoom. If Xoom can be that smooth with Honeycomb when i tested it, there is hope for this model yet. Software is the thing that needs fixing, so this model gets what it deserves. Even then, it won't be as smooth as iPad, and with every new Android version i am more and more sceptical that level of smoothness will ever be achieved.

I don't think iOS smoothness will ever be achieved, its definitely an android limitation.
As for HD movies I've tried dice player, mobo player vplayer and mx video player...only dice seems to give a decent framerate but still has a lot of slowdown. Some of the other players don't even play audio which is a bit weird, but that's probably my fault not messing about with the settings.
Any tips for sorting out the video? Or will tegra2 never be able to handle it? Because if that's the case this is definitely a waste of a very good screen and while it'll break my heart, will have to sell it...
EDIT: also is there any fix to get 3d gaming to run a bit faster? Will doing a system wipe, dalvik cache and cache partition wipe and reflash help you reckon?
Tegra can play HD, but its limited in what encoding methods it likes. Its certainly no match for Exynos, which will play pretty much anything. Samsung really messed up by not using their own brilliant processor in the Tab. Frankly the Exynos is better than the Tegra 3!
iOS is smooth, but slightly slow. It doesnt react as fast as Android, its animations are just more 'sedate', but as a result, buttery smooth. The problem with android is that in the rush to animate it can microstutter unless it has the CPUs total attention. My SGS2 with a custom ICS ROM and a few further tweaks is like lightening, totally smooth and faster to animate than iOS. I doubt a Tegra device will ever be able to do that, but it should do a lot better than it is now.

You mean iOS is limited, that's why is smooth.

Yeah I'm running westcrips resurrection ICS on my sgs2 and its incredible. Might have to hold out for a 7.7 instead, watching videos of it playing 1080p perfectly and its just upsetting me lol
If I can somehow tweak things so I can at least was 720p videos and play games smoothly I'll be happy. Its just that games aren't running smoothly at all, tried blood and glory, anomaly HD, shadow gun, fruit ninja thd, all very laggy as if they're running between 10-15fps, especially blood and glory.
Considering a wipe and reflash but doubt it will make a difference and really can't be bothered if it won't make a difference....
I guess I'm luck. I can play samurai vengeance no problem

Doesn't seem particularly slow to me... I mean it's no iPad but it isn't as slow as most of the HTC devices I've used.

Yeah that runs okay, but then go try something like shadowgun or anomaly HD, its rubbish.
Once I cleared all Samsung's live widgets from the home screens, I found the home screen transitions to be generally pretty smooth on mine.
Most HD video chugs in SloMo though. Its depressing and sad. Not sure if ICS will do much, if anything to improve that.
Hopefully, Samsung will refresh the ~9in form factor in the summer with some version of Exynos.

Overall speed

Would you say that the LG V10 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the LG V10 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The ONLY lag I've seen up to this point is when I first set up the device and was restoring 130 apps, and tried to do something else too
I got the Moto X Pure edition on the release date. I had more lag on that phone than the V10. I haven't experience any lag. The V10 has been flawless for me so far. :good:
Pretty much on par with the LG G4. Smooth no unexpected lag.
I too experienced a slight studder at first boot while it was downloading, installing and restoring apps, syncing data while I tried to go into other settings at the same time. But it's expected and not at all an issue once first boot has settles.

No lag with my MXPE and I am a picky SOB No reviews call out lag that I recall, nor most users. You must have gotten a bad device
Good, fast (enough for me), no glitches whether on WiFi or Cellular.
So lg v10 fast and smooth like note 5 or not???
Wanna trade my note 5 with it
Actually I experience very severe lag on V10. twice withing 2 months of ownership of this device. the V10 does not response at all. even I try to long press the power button (trying to reboot it). after a minute or so, it become responsive.
I believe the reason for the lags partially because I enabled the full disk encryption on this device.
I still love this phone and thinking whenever I have chance. a factory reset might help to clean some stock bloatware and make if faster.
Good enough..
I experience lag with Youtube videos (it just completely stops playback for no reason at all), and while using Spotify. Benchmark results are terrible for a device that has high end specs. Obviously software-related issues which will never get fixed.
So I can't seem to find what kind of storage the V10 uses. I heard the Iphone 6s used a nvme based rom which apparently made the device a lot snappier.
I'm curious what type of rom the V10 uses, as it has so many innovative features, it would be strange if LG skipped over the rom.
I have the phone for several days now and i am yet to find something that it cannot handle. I tested 4K video playback from youtube using mozilla firefox (not the youtube app which is lighter) and it worked flawlessly. I even tried 15Mbps HD Stream over VPN connection which was also handled without any issue. The only thing that may be a problem is a very heavy game but i am not a gamer so i have not tested deeply with games. For me this is the best phone that i had for all these years.

I agree, the V10 is my first LG phone. I had HTCs, Samsungs and Apple phones before. The V10 is the best of them.

I am also very impressed with the phone. MIne is a company phone so have to keep it stock for the best part apart from disabling individual apps etc but I am a constant heavy user over approximately 10hrs each day and so far (had it a month) it hasn't missed a beat and battery life is very good compared to the S4 I was previously using.
The fastest phone after Nexus devices
Fast and smooth
Bur my mate 8 is faster and smoothe with kirin 950 beast
Did a side by side comparison of a friend's HTC 10 and the V10. Launch speed of all apps tested were very similar. I tested FB, camera, phone app, chrome, play store, settings, reboot, maps, but no games.
The SD808 is keeping up pretty well, even though it only gets half of the antutu score compared to the SD820. In everyday use, you don't really feel any difference. I think only gaming will be affected.
My v10 is fast and i can have the brightness up to max and charge this phone via usb on my laptops 3.0 port. My g4 keeps sucking battery down when on usb power
S7 vs V10

Really no need to upgrade if you're not a gamer and even if you are
Don't know if I should call it lag or what. But the knock thing is pretty frustrating. I don't know if the device misses my knocks or I don't knock properly.
And it takes some time when I try to wake it up at lock screen using knocks.
Apart from that. It is truly amazing Android phone. Its my first time using a fast Android phone. Just moved from iOS. Last Android phone that I used was Galaxy S2.
In love with speed of LG V10. Never thought android could be this fast.
