Is there a way to flash using other ways other than CWM? I am already installed with 2.2.2 so I am not rooted so I can't install rom manager to flash CWM... what a circle...
Thanks!

Well I guess that is pretty stupid question ..
Maybe I flash recovery using this recovery first, then boot into recovery , then flash the .zip file.

NO!!! Your dell streak7 has an unlocked bootloader there for you can go to the clockwork thread by graffixnyc and flash his cwr through fastboot then boot into cwr and flash this. This has too be flashed through cwr.

yeah, i had typed command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", put the file to DS7, it flashed and hang maybe i had updated OTA march 23.

you dont fastboot flash this file. you need too fastboot flash cwr then flash this with clockworkmod.
And jiwengang you need too select option 2 in the stock bootloader. That will bring you into cwr.

So ur on official update

Question, I have still yet to update Ive always been the cautious type vs instant flashing.
Think I am ready now. So, since I did not OTA yet. But I AM rooted. I have Rom manager installed.
So am I correct when I assume, what I do it, Flash CWR, download this zip, then flash via the app to be updated to 2.2.2, have the tweaks and be set to go?
Also What T-mobile/Dell apps did it remove? Thanks.

You cant flash via rom manager. Its useless other then flashing cwr. But yes boot into bootloader by holding power and plus volume hold it until you see the menu. Select option 2 should put you into cwr. Once in cwr flash the .zip i provided. Reboot and you should be on 2.2.2 rooted. Good luck.

i am in need of a guide on how to manipulate these system and image files

Thanks Hellzya, Will try it now. What Apps were removed tho?
Also are you all using a SD card for storage or nah?
Btw wiping out Data/Cach or whatever, that doesnt touch the internal storage memory does it? Never had a device with internal memory like this. Used to my G1 and using the SD card for everything.

i believe you dont need too wipe by i always do just to be careful. It doesnt take that long too reinstall everything and set it up. i do it for piece of mind. and yes i have a 16gb external sd but i put everything im gonna flash on the internal sd.
Thatruth ask davied or get on irc and if dj steve is there im sure he could help you.

[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery for Vibrant (FINAL! SAFE!)

First things first, if you flashed a previous version of Clockwork Recovery using Odin, FLASH BACK TO A STOCK KERNEL using this Odin package:
http://koush.tandtgaming.com//test/kernel-vibrant-stock.tar.md5
This recovery is *very* safe to use. It does NOT flash your kernel; it is a completely uninvasive recovery method.
How it works: The recovery is packaged as an update.zip that you run from STOCK recovery. The update.zip unpacks Clockwork Recovery onto the ramdisk and restarts recovery. When you reboot, it reverts back to the original, unmodified, stock recovery. So, you will need to keep the recovery on the root of your SD card as an update.zip, and apply the zip every time you want to start Clockwork.
HOWEVER, if you use ROM Manager, all of the recovery installation and management instructions are done for you!
Installation instructions:
Download ROM Manager from the Market.
Flash Recovery.
Choose Vibrant as your phone.
Accept the Superuser prompt.
On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
Watch the backup go!
That's it! This is completely painless and safe! There is no need for Odin anymore to replace the recovery or flash updates!
If you appreciate my work, please buy the Premium version of ROM Manager!
Failed the first time. Left me in the stock recovery menu and gave a recovery error when clockwork first started. Flashed again and tried to backup a second time. Looks like it worked perfect! Now we need some froyo!

Yes! That is expected! The very first boot WILL FAIL, the recovery needs a kick start to complete installation.
little tip
after I downloaded Rom Manager and had it download the recovery for my Vibrant.
After the success message I waited nothing happened so you may have to select to manually reboot into the recovery, then select "reinstall packages" to finish the installation.

That's how it is supposed to work. Recovery is not replaced permanently. It's safer that way. Just reinstall packages to get into clockwork. Or use ROM Manager to have it handle everything automatically.

If flashing manually, yes. Just flash using ROM Manager though, and it will handle that all for you automatically.
I can't permanently replace the recovery until the kernel source and whatnot is released for the Vibrant.

Can't boot into recovery!

I just rooted my Nexus 1 Froyo per instructions on theUnlockr.com. I installed ADB first, Then proceded to root. I then flashed a recovery rom: recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1-cyan.img. This was successful. I then booted phone into recovery mode. Selected recovery and the first couple times I received a black screen with an exclamation point in the middle of a triangle next to green android. I flashed recovery rom once again and this time it allowed me to enter. I made my backup image and even booted into recovery mode againwiped phone clean and restored image. I thought I was golden! Later I tried to boot into recovery mode again and I received same problem as mentioned above. I tried again no luck. I even flashed recovery rom again and It still dose not work. Why could this be happening? I even went through the steps to root phone again (that went well). But still no recovery mode. I even tried another recovery rom: recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1.img. It did the same thing. Worked one time and then nothing! I need to fix this before I load custom Roms.

you are getting the triangle with the droid because the recovery did not flash correctly, try usung rom manager if for nothing else, just to install Amon/clockwork

Cool thanks for the advice! I did try Rom Manager and used Amon/Clockwork recovery. After flashing the Recovery Image I booted into recovery from Rom Manger. No problem! BUT.....when I rebooted phone from recovery menu I again went in to Rom Manager and tried to Boot back in to recovery and I got the triangle with the Droid next to it. I pulled battery and started phone again. I flashed Amon/Clockwork recovery again from Rom Mang. and again I was able to successfully boot in to recovery. This pattern goes on and on. It seams that every-time I want to boot into recovery I need to flash Amon/clockwork image. Somewhere phone is not retaining the information. Everything looks to work just fine as long as I Flash before I go into recovery. I'm sure this is not the way it should work. Any ideas?

It's documented in random places, of course the post below also has the same info. I don't know precisely what the two files do, but they apparently try to restore the recovery.
Trust me, it will fix the problem. Remove them, re-flash recovery.

I can't flash from ROM Manager. Initially, I didn't want to purchase the download capability. So, first, I used the program tools and flashed from there. I got Clockwork Mod to work, but then when I restarted it and went into "recovery," I got nothing.

**you may encounter software signature issues, just 'install software/driver anyway'.

open a command prompt and navigate to the "CWM" directory
Code:
cd\
cd CWM
Fastboot boot into openzio_clockwork-recovery image
Code:

Profit.
***You will Lose your Kyocera Logo once you RESTORE (due to the way cwm dumps the boot partition).
Please download the openZIO Boot Fix and install the zip with CWM.
This will flash the correct boot image and restore your Kyocera Logo.

Well, we used fastboot to load it up.
Then used adb to tell it to boot into recovery. There was also some key combo I forget. It's all around page 30 or so of the 1.6 thread.

Those images generally need to be flashed through fastboot, and fastboot might not even work depending on the bootloader.
you need the sdk installed first, and adb working and added to your $path.
after that
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img
obviously, replace path/to/recoery with the actual path that you downloaded the file to.
That revocery image (I found out) is for the 1.6 OS.
Being as we have 2.2 and an updated kernel: would this recovery still work?
Guess I'll be the guinea pig for this afternoon. o.0
edit:
adb reboot bootloader is for our modem download mode.
To access fastboot, we just power down, then hold the power/end and send key simultaneously.
recovery only cares about the hardware, not the os or kernel, thats why you use it to flash custom roms and kernels. It boots before anything else is loaded.

[OBSOLETE][Recovery] Clockwork Recovery

PLEASE READ:
FIRST IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE OTA UPDATE(TO 2.2.2) ALREADY AND WERE NOT ROOTED BEFORE THE OTA UPDATE YOU CAN ONLY GET CLOCKWORK RECOVERY THROUGH THE FAST BOOT METHOD BELOW AS ONLY ROOT CAN FLASH CWR THROUGH ROM MANAGER
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE CWR INSTALLED BUT DO NOT HAVE OR TRIED TO INSTALL THE OTA UPDATE YET AND ARE STILL ON VERSION 2.2.1 DO NOT UPDATE!!! DOWNLOAD THE ZIP IN THIS THREAD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008650 AND FLASH THROUGH CLOCKWORK RECOVERY AND YOU WILL HAVE THE UPDATE PLUS IT WILL BE ROOTED (CURRENTLY THERE IS NO WAY TO ROOT WITH THE UPDATE UNLESS IT'S THIS METHOD)
IF YOUR STREAK 7 CAME PRE INSTALLED WITH ANDROID VERSION 2.2.2 YOU CAN ONLY GET CLOCKWORK RECOVERY THROUGH THE FAST BOOT METHOD BELOW AS ONLY ROOT CAN FLASH CWR THROUGH ROM MANAGER
Ladies and Gentlemen,
After over 72 long hours and barely any sleep we now have a working Clockwork Recovery!!! I cant believe I did it! Thanks to everyone in the community that pitched in to make this happen, I couldnt have done it without the help of all of you! Thanks!!
Special thanks to Koush for taking the time to chat with me and Bogdi1988.. one guy on irc told me "You should feel lucky, Koush is even talking to you about this, he ignored me for weeks" hahaha I guess he knew how close we were so we didn't mind helping us get to the finish line! I dont know what exactly he changed for us but he put the finishing touches on it.
AGAIN: YOU CAN FLASH CLOCKWORK RECOVERY MOD BY USING ROM MANAGER(IF YOU HAVE ROOT ACCESS) OR INSTALL MANUALLY THROUGH FASTBOOT
DO NOT PERFORM A FACTORY RESET FROM WITHIN ANDROID YOU WILL MESS UP YOUR PHONE. IF YOU WANT TO DO A FACTORY RESET DO IT THROUGH CLOCKWORK RECOVERY
make sure your phone is connected to the computer and you have entered fastboot mode on the phone by holding down Volume down and the power button at the same time
recovery: http://mirror.kanged.net/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.0.1.9-streak7.img
rename this file to recovery.img (or any easy name to type)and place into the same directory as your fastboot executable (usually androidsdkfolder/tools)
open up a command prompt and navigate to the androidsdkdir/tools folder and type this in at the C prompt
fastboot devices
(to make sure you're connected)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Thanks to Koush, Bogdi1988, BinaryBishop, Lou, nledevil , Hellzya, KenAP, Josh (Hellzya:"hey Jo who are you?") hahaha and everyone else that helped us get this done!!!!!
LET IT BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this attracts more dev. Too grab one of these. Also bogdi you guys did confirm that wiping data and cache through cwr was working? Last build I used was not. Ill test for my self when I get home. Now somebody needs to come up with a stock rom that we can install via cwr to revert back too incase somebody accidently deletes there backup. Instead of fastbooting the system and boot.img I'm stoked this is good. And too think I was about too sell my device. Stupid me

Its cool ill test when I get home. Not worried about mounts and such. Just restore/ backup. And full wiping

I can confirm.. I just did wipe cahce and worked, just did wipe data/factory reset and it worked now I'm restoring

[Recovery] ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.8

Well I got to compile the last non-touch recovery and finally is now possible to mount both SDcards (internal and external).
Work:
Installing from ZIP
Factory Reset
Wipe Cache
Backup Nandroid
Internal and External SDCard
Untested:
Fix Permissions
Battery Stats
SDCard Partition
Download: CWM 5.2.0.8
Thanks to TheManii for the help.
Greetings
What ROM did you use it with?
Could you also upload your source files? I'd like to take a look at what's changed.
I plan on working on it more mid may when my semester ends.
I'm also gonna remirror it off streakdroid.com. I assume you dont mind.

Hi, Im using your source file of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22967442&postcount=47 but I modified the file recovery.fstab. To mount the both sdcard (Internal & external).
For remirror, ok no problem.
Greetings
Just wondering if one could do an Android restore from files created with CWM 4.0.1.4 using say CWM 5.0.2.8?

Maybe but I think only work with the same Android Version in this case Honeycomb.
Greetings
Going to give this a try with ICS B4 and see if it can handle it.

Try this recovery for ICS maybe work. If boot work maybe in ICS the problem is recovery.fstab
The partition is different of HoneyComb?
Greetings
I just tried it on ICS B4 and get the same "Can't mount /data!" error after backing up the boot image, recovery img and system that I got with CWM 4.0.1.4.
Backup to internal card errors with "Can't mount backup path". Whoops! I didn't mount the EMMC. Probably would get the same error as with the external sd.
Recs designed for HC wont wont on ICS as ICS has different partitions.
If we ever get an ICS build that uses the same partitions then the recs for HC will also work on it
Edit: 5.0.2.8 is mirrored and linked to the wiki now

Thanks.
Any with ICS, You can enter the recovery (CWM 5.0.2.8) and go to Advanced-> Show Log
After this reboot to system. Open Root filemanager and go to cache/recovery/last_log (To read the last_log must copy it to another route) & copy the info here.
And repeat the process with Stock Recovery of ICS (Attach ICS Stock Recovery of the ICS B4 of DJ_Steve ROM).
Greetings

What rom are you trying to flash?
Man, ok heres my story.
Actually iam trying to flash a recovery mode but there so many threads that i dont know wich one is better. I tried some of them but i dont know where to start. I only end up at the fastboot mode and not pass that.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
and you ran "fastboot flash recovery ./recovery.img" ? And you made sure your device is in fastboot mode first?
ok this what i did, i Press VOL + AND POWER at the same time and gave me fastboot.
Then plug in the phone to the computer and the computer detects it but when i go to the computer devices it does not show anything available.
I do have the ROM MANAGER app Installed and flash the recovery mode but it does not show up when i press VOL - AND POWER, It just turns ON.
just type in "fastboot devices". if you see "? device" than you are good. If not you need to install the fastboot drivers.
