power button app - G Tablet Themes and Apps

What's a best app/widget to put a power button on your homescreen that'll put your tab to sleep? The ones that I've seen mentioned so far are Tap Tap App, Screen Off and Lock, AnyUnlock and Screen Off.
Any thoughts on which one is the best? Also, being able to wake it up with the volume rocker would be a nice option.

Quick boot.

Widgetsoid includes a nice lock widget and a reboot widget, I haven't seen anything that's expressly sleep though.

I am using button savior.

LockMyDroid
You could always use MY app, LockMyDroid.
The advantages are that it's an app instead of a widget so it offers many more ways to lock your screen. Examples:
Set it as the 'Action' for the Clock Tap in FancyWidgets
Add a shortcut to your homescreen
Hold the Home button, if it was one of the last 8 apps used (always is for me) you can lock your phone from that menu
Long-press the 'Search' button on your phone
Launch from app drawer and lock your phone

While you're at it, you could try the new Live Wallpaper that I just put on the market which I fashioned from my failed Google I/O contest entry

But Quick Boot doesn't have an option to make it sleep right? It just reboots or powers off unless I'm missing something.

That's the name of it? I can't find it in the market.

I use minimalistic text to call on screen off and lock.
So I touch the word lock and the screen goes out with an old TV tube animation, gingerbread style on froyo.

Trackball wake on FroYo?

Since updating to FroYo I keep thinking my phone is broken because it won't wake up, but then I realize I have to wake via power button now...
any root apps to re-enable this until CM6 is out?
there's menu unlock by teamdouche; it uses the menu button instead of trackball to unlock, but you still need to press the power button to wake the phone
Hmm, sorta pointless for me. I can deal with slide to unlock, I just hate power to wake.
I'd like the same ... it's annoying to have to go back to using the power button.
Anyone?
Isn't it possible to just extract the function from a recent CM build and make a installable package to use until CM 6?
Need trackball wake!
I find myself pressing the trackball multiple times before realizing I have to use the power button again . Pressing that power button sucks when you have a gel case. Trackball wake is needed!
i wish to have it as well. froyo doesn't bring it .
Until it is effectively ported, you guys are welcome to using a lockscreen replacement.
Just discovered a way to have trackball wakeup on the N1 running fro-yo!
Install an app called screen mode and set it on your home screen as a widget. Switch to Awake stay mode and voila! Trackball wake up! I tried tinkering with it and if you set it to regular mode the trackball wake up won't work. Have been using this app for a long time now and never realized that it does this lol.

Well it works. It doesn't turn the screen back off but I assume that people just want the wakeup feature.
What does awake stay mode do?

Awesome. Works, but yes what is stay awake mode? Does is not sleep meaning using battery?
It's a good app but I preffer the slide to unlock protection after trackball press instead of jumping directly to the menu. Pressing volume or trackball buttons by error will open the screen.
I think we don't have other solutions than wait for an Enom or CM roms

I think Google needs to release the source code for 2.2 before this is possible.
Any updates?
Use "No Lock" (free in market) in combination with "FlyScreen" (free on market).
Wakes phone with trackball and brings you to a customizable lock screen that looks almost like the stock 2.1 lock screen. I'm using this and love it.

How to wake phone up with trackball?

you have to have a custom rom installed in order to do this, the standard vanilla android will not allow you to do this.

Installing CyanogenMod would accomplish what you are asking for.
please post this in the correct forum next time
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=603
Actually most if not all lock screen replacements do this if you don't want to root.. though you are losing your lock screen for some crappy alternative.
Thanks for the advice...I will put it in Q&A next time my bad sorry!
I just manually installed Froyo 2.2 FRF72 on my N1...I heard there is a prerooted rom you can install but I think its Modaco only? Do you think Cyan will release something like this soon thats prerooted cause I would love to get some cyan and have the trackball thing working!
THANKS for your comments!

Think Cyanogen is going to be away this week but cm6 test0 is being tested somewhere It will come soon enough
No need to root your N1, just install [Lockbot Pro v1.14.1.apk]
Lockbot Pro can wake up your phone by pressing trackball or volume keys
You can also try "No Lock", which is free.
It removes the need to slide to unlock and also allows Trackball and Volume Keys wake.
It also has a widget for a quick activation of the normal waking, so the phone doesn't wake all the time when it's in your pocket.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.jraf.android.nolock
FlyScreen is another. And this is the third "how do I wake by tracbkall?" thread I've seen in a few weeks....

Thanks vitorjna for the info
I just stumbled on this thread by accident but your suggestion is really appreciated!
I'd always hate having my Nexus One music going in my car and having to go through the unlock screen if I wanted to skip a song. I even started using Cubed music player since it has a lockscreen widget but the music player itself is pretty bad. Now I can go back to using the regular music player that I like more without having to worry about driving unsafe.
No Lock works but I don't want my Lock Screen removed, I just want wake with trackball.
Flyscreen is crap, I don't want the widgets so I removed them but now I get an update thing every time I get to the lockscreen.
Is there any app like No Lock but with lockscreen?

The way these programs work is that they dismiss the system keyguard (Because the keyguard is what prevents the phone from waking when the trackball is pressed). This is done by creating a window with FLAG_DISMISS_KEYGUARD. Then the system keyguard is gone and the app can either close, leaving no keyguard (Like no lock), or act as a pseudo keyguard (like flyscreen). There is no way to force the system keyguard to activate again after it's dismissed.
Cyanogen's method is better because it's a custom rom.
If you want to try another lockscreen I can recommend my own WidgetLocker, which has Easy Wake (trackball wake) and has slide to unlock and won't try to download widget updates (It uses actual Android Widgets, not those flyscreen ones, so you can control your music from the lockscreen or put BetterHome there or whatever).
http://teslacoilsw.com/widgetlocker
I find I like no lock the best for the moment. Most times I dont want the lock feature but when I do its one tap of the 1x1 widget and its on. One tap and its off on the flipside. Used it on cm as well since I prefer the volume rocker to wake.

can you tell me how to setup lockbot pro to wake up when I press the trackball? after a while, nothing I do will turn on my N1, except for the power button. and I hate using the power button to turn on my phone.

I've tried "No Lock" and it works well. However its unable to unlock when "pin/password" is enabled.(forced by my exchange email account)
Anyone know of something that can bypass this too ?

I my self would definitely prefer a long press rather than having to double tap. Sometimes I miss the second two and just go home but would have no problems with a long press.

Any solution to this? I'd like to make long-press home as the multi-tasking view and disable double-press home entirely (don't care about google now).
On the new 4.2.2 long press is now the menu button, double tap home is the recent apps like before and press, hold, and swipe up is the Google now

Yea I just saw this when I flashed to a 4.2.2 ROM. The thing I want to disable is the double-tap home button as it makes the single-press home a bit laggy since it has to wait to see if the second button press of home is registered or not. I would rather the phone just instantly goes home when I press home which requires the double-tap home function to be disabled which is why I'd like to rebind the task-switcher to something else like long-press home.

It doesn't make it laggy, as it doesn't wait for the second tap. You can still do the second tap once it gets to the homescreen. If you think it's slow, you should see the Samsung Galaxy phones with their REAL homebutton lag

It does... this is exactly what I'm relating it to. On my S3 it had double-press home to go to the S-Voice app. Once I disabled that feature, the home button would be instant on the S3. Otherwise, it would be "waiting" for the 2nd press. It's the same thing with the HTC One... at least it feels like it.
And no, I can't still do the 2nd tap when I get to the home screen...

In all seriousness, I don't have any lag and you can disable the double tap by editing the framework.jar

Lol... well I feel the vibration feedback of the 2nd tap but it just acts as me pressing the home screen again, not part of the 2nd press from the 1st. I've tried timing it very closely but I still can't get it to go home and then bring up the task switcher. I can just get it to go home, then go home again, or get the task switcher.
Disabling it is only half the battle... I still want to bind the task-switcher to long press but I lack the know-how to do it lol. Thought there would be something built into modaco's framework to do it but I don't see that level of button customization there yet.

[Q] Fastest way to access Google Now "Voice"?

Anyone know how to access Google Now "Voice" on the Xperia Z lockscreen or before you unlock your phone?
Google Now widget doesn't allow that.
Currently I can either have google search widget or icon on home screen.
Even if I can change the "long hold soft home key" to go directly to voice instead of search that would be great.
Thanks!

How to lock screen without pressing power button?

Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
