Mic of IS, Noise Cancellation disorder! - HTC Incredible S

Just like some other models, the famous Noise Cancellation problem arrived IS.
Situation:
When a normal headphone (without mic) plugged in, or
When the handset is plugged to car kit
Problem:
Noise Cancellation activated and the other side cannot hear anything.
Workaround:
Unplug your phone and talk to it direct. Are we using a smartphone or stupidphone?
Solution:
1. Pray someday HTC will release an update, or
2. Pray someone can root IS and release an utility to deactivate Noise Cancellation
For 1, everyone here please test for yourself, and report to HTC support. I am not sure if they will release an update but at least they are polite enough to talk to. For 2, just pray.

all i use is a bluetooth carkit and that doesnt seem to have these problems for me at all...
idk if ur referring to a cabled one... but if thats the case erhm.... sorry idk ^^

Pay attention to the word "plugged". Yeah... bluetooth stereo headphones are fine too.

Hy! i have my IS since a week... i have the same promlems, nobody can hear my on the other side while i am driving....
when i am calling from home its alright. I dont understand how is it possible? please somebody help me!!!!!!!

I called HTC support about this issue and they replied it's a "feature" of the noise cancellation function. I really hope IS can be rooted soon so we can sort out the problem ourselves.

Same here, they gave me the same reply. But then I asked, is the "feature" intends to prevent user from using headphones or car kits, they cannot give me an answer but said they forward the case to the engineerin dept. Hope something can be done next.

Same problem here.

Fixed by Gingerbread!!! Yay!!!

Are you sure?
Yesterday I've talked to HTC germany and told them what they have to do to disable this crap feature.
Every HTC since Nexus One have this Problem.
It's in the build.prop, you have to change one single line...
On my phone it's now working fine, but I'm S-Off and rooted.
I've told HTC yesterday how-to fix this problem.
They say, that there are to few persons, who told there this problem.

Yes, I can also confirm that the GB upgrade fixes the mic problem with normal headphones.
Besides, I can no longer hear that little echo of my own voice I used to hear during a call. Just hope HTC didn't disable noise cancellation as a solution for this.

Callers deafened by ringtone when I answer by Bluetooth

Anyone else got this issue and is there a new bluetooth stack or something to resolve it?
When I click the answer button on any bluetooth headset (currently using the iqua solar powered one), the sound is temporarily diverted to by mobile before the bluetooth properly picks up, and also during that slugging moment, any ringtone playing is diverted to the caller's earpiece (i.e. sent out by my mic).
One caller complained it had nearly deafened them.
Anyone able to help?
Having the same issue with my parrot bluetooth and my Tilt
Can someone purrlleeeease help with this issue? I am now scared to answer any calls, lest I get shouted at with, "GOD WHAT WAS THAT NOISE? IT NEARLY DEAFENED ME!"
You really haven't give a lot of info here.
I mean what Rom are you running, what BT hardware and reg tweaks do your use etc.
Info is required to be of any assistance.
Note my signature shows exactly what Rom(s) I'm currently using.
Many thanks. Here are my versions:
HTC TyTN II
ROM: 1.0 Sleuth
ROM date: 08/28/07
Radio version: 1.27.12.11
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
Essentially I think a new Bluetooth stack might solve it, but I really wish to avoid losing all data by flashing a new ROM altogether.
A new Bluetooth stack on its own would be wonderful... or a way to restore my data back to a newer ROM. Would Sprite Backup do that if I use Sleuth's WM6.1 ROM?

I know the commercial version is supposed to support "Rom Upgrade" support but I'm not sure if that is in the version that is floating around the forums.
What you can do though is make a backup prior to upgrading.
Then upgrade to test if the problem is fixed in one of WM6.1 roms.
Then downgrade and restore your back-up.
Now you will know if there is even a point to expending the effort of trying to extract the BT Stack.
Don't take offense at this next statement but if you put forth that effort it might endear someone more skilled to your cause as you've provided a "Proof of Concept" so to speak.
Okay I have just upgraded to Sleuth's v3 (WM6.1). Sadly the bluetooth issue remains, despite the new Radio version.
If someone calls, and I answer using the bluetooth headset, for 1 second their audio is output to the speaker of the Kaiser. I believe it is during that second that they also hear the end of the ring tone, which is what deafens them.
An unsatisfactory workaround is to use a quite ringtone or vibrate only, but that is hardly ideal. If anyone knows of any other solution or a bluetooth stack that is a bit snappier when answering via headset, it would be great appreciated

Same issue here with the same new ROM.
I'm having the same problem. When I push the button on my BT HF it gives a horrible noise to the caller at the other end for a second. In my case I doubt it is ring tone, it doesn't sound anythin like the tone I'm using, it's just like loud crackling or smth.
I can't give you any version numbers cause by TyTN II is sent off to warranty (3rd time already). This time it stopped accepting and making calls while showing 3G symbol. Previously I had band selection on auto and had no problems. Now even after hard reset no calls could be made so off it went again. The first two faults where the speaker and the "Fn" light.
I am having the same problem, the handet is at HTC's repair facility for this and a few nagging issues. I will report what they find.
Mine isn't so much the ringtone it just sounds like a loud static sound. I thought it was the headset but I tried it with 3 different headsets and the Bluethooth in my car and they all have the same problem.
Got my phone back today and I can't say I'm impressed with HTC. First they requested that I send it in the original box then must have thrown it out and sent it in some crap box without enough padding. They didn't even send a note or invoice saying what had been done, which was nothing.
They claim they couldn't find anything wrong and when I called support the guy thought it a joke.
Needless to say it is still deafening and I am pissed.
Same Issue Here... It is almost as if there is a dely in cutting off the WAV/WMA file. Bluetooth Picks up and and both parties get the end of the ring tone.
Had the issued with the origional AT&T rom
Have the issue with Slueth 3.0 and Alex 5.2
If anyone finds a fix please let me know...
I am using PhoneAlarm - Don't know if that is related.
I've had the same complaints from some of my callers, and try to answer between rings as much as possible. The complaints have gone way down. Of course, we shouldn't have to jump thru hoops to answer our phones!
Does anyone have contact info to point HTC to this worrying thread? We need a patch release ASAP. A phone that can't answer calls properly? Yikes.
No issues with my BlueAnt Z9. Have you guys tried different headsets?
I think you may have just been lucky. It is uncommon to A) answer during the ringtone, and B) have the caller complain about the loud noise.
It happens on my Bluetooth earpiece, and Nokia car kit, and JVC car kit. So, it is for HTC to resolve.
I've tried three headsets and it happens on all of them. It happens even when I have the phone on vibrate.
I spent an hour on the phone with HTC support and they are awful, even after telling her that it happens on three different headsets she says that is sounds like a headset issue not an issue with the phone.
When I explained for the third time that I would agree if it happend with one headset but since it happens with all of the headsets it would support my arguement that it is an issue with the phone.
It was like talking to a wall. I wish I had an alternitive to HTC at this point, I love their design and have never had a problem with any of their other phones but this their lack of support is amazing.
I think its with all HTC phones. Happened with my Dash - Wing and now Tilt.
But I've never had anyone complain about hearing music on their end...I can just hear it on my headset for about 1 sec. I've also had my SMS tone play wile on a call and also my VM tone play while on a call and I've asked them if they heard that and they said no.
I also only use noise cancelling headsets.

I've never had a problem with any other handset, I've had a Qtek 9100, MDA, O2 Exec, Wing and a Dash.... crap I spent a lot on phones. The only one I've had problems with is the TyTNII.
Same problem here. And sometimes the speaker will very briefly go into speaker mode as I answer! Not good.

Original Handsfree Kit

What is the silver button on the original handsfree kit meant to do? when i have an incoming call it wont pick up so, so is there meant to be another function to it or something? thanks
i second that also
this key doesn't answer the incoming call
is there someone else has this problem ?
anyone actally used the handsfree kit?
The wired one? I use mine all the time, answers calls here, and a double press makes it dial last number..
hi, i'am also having the same issues.
the silver button does not pick up calls.
has anyone found a solution for this?
I have the same problem
I live at HK
I have been to the Service Center,
But denied it is the handfree fault but the rom bug..
I argued with them, then changed to a new handfree,
but the problem still there....
Hi everybody,
I'm new here and very grateful for all the brilliant solutions you guys come up with to all sorts of issues with x1.
I have the same problem with my hands-free: the button doesn't work and neither does the microphone. Until now, I've thought of it as a simple matter of replacing the hands-free kit, but now I see the suggestion that this is a Rom bug! Will anyone be able to elaborate a bit on this?
thanks and best regards,
Sune
Really not sure it is real or not that is a rom or software bug,
but sure quite a number of problem of people experienced such problem!
I hope SE not to put a death ear on this issue.
It is really annoying as I quite often used the handfree.
hello everyone
the same problem on my russian x1 handsfree. Have tried to fix it with some patches - no results. Then I've bought Nokia Xpress music handsfree, and it works perfectly (and radio works too).
update
VERY SAD, but it doesn't fix the problem. bad quality of X1 jack - thats the problem. Xpress key doesn't answer the incoming call periodically too, but handsfree itself working good all the time

The first time i got to know the headphone dosen;t work in answering call, I really feel astonished. It is such a basic function of phone, how can the genius of SE dose not test it. Do them think we will buy another handfree???
Really disappointed of SE.....

Hi I'm Chris from Sri lanka,
Yes, I have the same issue! The handsfree seems to work when I remove it and re insert the jack during an incoming call, but not initially! It is very temeperamental and annoying. I also have a problem when I get an another call when I'm already on a call while using the handsfree. The current call goes to speaker phone and the party cannot hear wht I'm saying through my handsfree!
So I am forced to remove the handsfree and talk during such instances! Crazy this, especially since answering phone calls is one of the core functions of a cell phone! what's the point in having all the frills when answering a call is so tedious!
This is very disppointing, especially with such a high price tag to boot!
same case here. im really disappointed...
i guess that if i can when asus glaxy came out i will change mi xperia for that one... this phone is really "buggy"...
Same probleme here unfortunately.. I tried to remove all
additional programs related to dialing and volume,
switched to the new ROM, but no changes. Button on headset
does not work and microphone neither.
I also have same issue, both HK new stock ROM & cook rom also.
i'm form India, had purchased Xperia X1i and using Airtel network. when i connect my hands free and attend one call the moment second call come, automatically my loud speaker gets activated.
is any facing the same problem in Indai or any where else? will any one help me this.
is there any solutions?

Samething here, and the above works for me too (Remove and re insert), but SE really need to fix this for us.
I believe it's a hardware problem, bad 3.5mm jack!
My right earphone's volume has fallen to one tenth. I have it for less than a month. Good listening but bad manufacturing quality.
Personally I don't think it's bad hardware, I think it's bad firmware/rom.
Currently, with GENERIC UK ROM R2AA010, three presses of headset button dials last number, long press disconnects. Not tried incoming call yet.
I really need to be able to customize this buttons function, especially to activate Voice Command, so that I can make calls, play music etc, without the need for touching the phone. Only then, will I be able to make a button for the handlebars on my motorbike.
Want to use a fully wired system to save on battery power, rather than bluetooth. Also, in all the years of using bluetooth, I have yet to find a combination of handset and headset that work seamlessly.
So far, not impressed with the lack of functionality of this headset, but can see why it works like this. Essentially SE should have included Voice Command, then this hardware/software combination would have been shipped working effectively. I think it is merely a cost saving exercise and SE need to provide a patch and fix in their next rom release.

[Q] Bad echo on Bluetooth car kit (CK-7W)

Hi all,
I have installed a CK-7W bluetooth car kit in my car which works fine.
The issue is that the the other side can hear a bad echo when they talk. I thought it was because the volume was loud in the car but it happens even when it is soft. They can hear me perfectly.
I saw a similar thread in the HTC desire section and apparently someone said it was gone after he upgraded to Froyo. Unfortunately mine is still there.
Some other thread had a fix in WM by changing the class from smartphone to normal phone and I tried to edit something in the ETC folder like someone suggested but no luck.
I would like to hear from anyone using a bluetooth car kit and obviously how it can be fixed. I have not tried any other phone but someone did mention that it works fine with non Android phones.
K.
Hello kar200. I have that exact same bt car kit and I have that exact sale behaviour.
When I talk it's fine for receiver, but when receiver talks she complains about bad echo. Nobody complained about echo when I used Nokia E72 with this car kit.
I'm guessing it could be a delay from speaker which goes to microphone and caller hears her own voice from my mic.
Sorry, but I haven't found any solution. I really hope I find though!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks for the reply. Apparently the echo is not due to any lag and it is to do with the phone. Someone even said that he used a bluetooth headset and had the issue (cannot explain this really).
Apparently the phone should filter the incomng voice somehoe but I don't know how. I might do a test and mute my speakers and see if the echo is there. Another thread on the desire HD said that it is only with the HTC Sense Roms. This might be the case with us as well with the Galaxy's? Hopefully we will see Cyanogenmod on i9000 which will give us a good indication if it is only the Galaxy's roms.

Can't hear incoming callers

Got a replacement HTC Pure and when I call someone/receive a call, the person can hear me fine, however I can only hear them on speakerphone. Anyone else know a workaround for this or will I have to send it in for a different one?
Route your audio
Route your audio with this program;
AudioRoute
This tool can be used to route the audio from the earpiece speaker to the backspeaker and vice versa.
Hope this helps,

This problem is usually caused by a failure of the internal speaker unit. This unit is often available on EBay Australia (and presumably internationally) for about $A10. It is very easily fitted and a cure usually takes only a few minutes once you have the component.
Let me know if you need a descriprion of the replacement process. But it is easy and obvious.

I have the same problem and i found this:

I haven't placed an order yet but i will. Even if this is not the cause of the problem, it's so cheap it certainly deserves a try!

[Q] Need a help with something very strange

Hi All,
I do apologize if I made a topic in wrong place. Moderators, please transfer it to the right one if so.
Here is the usual problem that I'm having with my HTC ONE M7 Verizon and BMW X6M 2013. After each call, when I have finished conversation and clicked on the hang up. Its makes a huge NOISE to indicate that call is being finished. I have BMW Explorer that I went thru BMW CPU settings to check if its somehow BMW related problem. Sounds aka Noise is like Big "DONG" sound, and its 10 times louder then actual voice on the phone. I have checked with other model of BMW, that sound still exist, still the same, but MUCH MUCH lower volume, you barely can hear it at all. Some version of BMW it doesn't exist at all. All models were tested 2013+. Different phones like Iphones, works just fine. So I'm looking for an option in the phone itself to turn it off. Its not locked to Verizon its developer unlocked, and its not rooted (which could be done). Please help out, so desperate to get rid of this sound.
The sound you are hearing is coming from your car, not the phone. If its really bothering you, stop by your local BMW dealer and see if they can do anything to help. There are no settings on the phone for this.

Well I tried they have looked at me like I'm asking for a new Ferrari
Then you might want to post on some of the BMW forums or find a service tech that actually knows how to configure the more advanced functions of your bluetooth connection (not just how to pair with a phone...).
