[Q] Sending remote signals over HDMI to optimus? - LG Optimus 2x

HDMI 1.3 incorporates a function to allow the tv remote to control other hdmi units, called regza link in my toshiba tv, but most manufacturers have their own (semi-compatible) versions.
From what i understand from the tech specs, the optimus x2 does have HDMI 1.3, so i wonder, can i use the tv remote as phone remote and effectively turn the phone into fullHD home theatre system?
i havent yet gotten the phone, and i probably wont get a hdmi cable with it, so i cannot test it myself for several weeks (living on the countryside, miles from nearest electronics store..

No you cant
firstly it doesnt have any implementation of HDMI CEC (doesnt have to just because it have HDMI 1.3),
secondly its not a mediaplayer but a phone running a phone OS - the OS are not designed to operate as a remote controlled mediaplayer using HDMI CEC control or otherwise - and there are no "mediacenter software" you can install to make it act like one.
thirdly its not a mediaplayer but a phone - its ability to play media are limited to certain formats and certain encoding profiles. "1080p" or "FullHD" are not terms describing its ability to function as home theatre system, but simply and only a term for the maximum resolution supported of the supported file and encoding formats. The phone doesnt support all the media formats and variations you would expect from a home theatre system or mediaplayer. Its "1080p" abilities is about being able to play limited Web2 content like youtube video, encoded in baseline profiles - it doesnt have support for encodings in main or high profiles or AC3/DD or DTS audio or mkv or DVD structures or BD structures or HDTV or subtitles or anything else you would expect of a home theatre system
Its HDMI connection is about being able to project the odd pictures and video now and then, but it require video to be encoded in a supported format within the supported specs and it require the control to be done on the phone.
It will never be any kind of FullHD home theatre or mediaplayer replacement.

I'll say it it a bit nicer.
The HDMI connection is excellent for playing video you have recorded on your phone or to use the phone for playing correctly encoded video if you are away at a hotel for the weekend.
Using this phone to play full HD movies as a home theater replacement is never going to happen but clearly the ability for phones to act as a full media server is in the post.

Phone to Tv?

I just purchased a used Tilt from LutLot Liquidations for $100 and it works great. But I have a question. In 3 of my vehicles I have a dvd player with available av inputs. I have a slingbox at home and was wondering if there would be anyway to view the slingbox from my phone and output it to my car(s) dvd player thru the phone? I know I am reaching here but figured I would ask.
Thanks!
Sorry, the Kaiser doesn't support video in / out and can not connect to a DVD player, external screen, etc.
As for viewing your slingbox - I'm not 100% sure what protocol the sling uses but you should be able to watch streaming video on your Kaiser if your network connection is up to it. Depending on the protocol, TCPMP/Core should let you watch streaming content.

mkv 720p with dice player/mxplayer?

Hi
I am about to buy an optimus 2x, but before that i have to know once and for all-
does 720p mkv work with dice player/mxplayer with hardware decoding at least decently?
i sold my i9000 to replace it, how are the video capabilities of the 2X if you compare it to the i9000?
i'd appreciate a fast answer- the deal is supposed to be done tomorrow
thanks
The o2x can only hardware-decode a very limited number of 720p videos (some tv shows you "find" on the internet works, other do not, most movies lag), however with software decoding (for example with mx player) it can play another bunch of videos, still not all though. Do not buy this phone for it's video playback capabilities.

Guys.... this is wrong section for you...

Really?
Haven't had a problem yet.
720p with dolby digital (software audio decode mode), DTS (software decode mode).
MP4 with CABAC and 3+ ref frames, shouldn't be possible but it works fine and in hardware too.
HDMI output is clean and has no issues, even with 25ft cables.
Maybe I'm lucky, maybe ergoen wasn't...
I really haven't found a movie that I can't play, I even stream them from my PC/router by mounting the drives in cifs manager and playing them in either mx player or quick pic player.
640x480= 480p
Screen Res= 800x480
SD space=limited
Hardware mode seems to get better battery life, software decoding a 720p movie used around 95% battery over 2 hours with airplane mode on
Hardware decoding a 480p TV show used 25% in 50 minutes, airplane mode on.

Dlna 1080p videos

I tried to watch my 1080p videos through my hdtv using the stock gallery app. The reproduction was not fluid at all. Both sound and picture kept stuttering. There wasn't any problem with 720p videos. I know galaxy s4 can send 1080p videos via dlna without problem. If it isn't a snapdragon 600 issue, is there anything can do to watch my videos through my tv? A setting or another app maybe?
Could it be a through put issue in your network?
my One works great with MHL adapter but when i try to use the HTC Media Link i get issues. Its a result of my network set up and how i have my WiFi configured. I need more throughput for my larger files / movies to work properly over WiFi.
Have not tried DLNA yet. But i do have a PS3 so maybe i should attempt to set that up.
Try Skifta app. Works super well thru dlna 4me ?
Htc One the One ?

Should I go with raspberry Pi 2 as Media center

I have already got MK808 android stick, which is 1.2 GHz dual core with Mali 400 GPU.
After using it long as general purpose device, decided to convert it as media centric device, with 2.1 speaker setup
I am facing following limitations,
1. Not able to play HD/1080 videos smoothly
2. Tried USB sound card to connect it to 2.1 speaker, but quality is not good
So I started to look for alternate devices. I liked RPI 2 especially due to it's support, but before buy, I have some questions unanswered
1. Since I have 1.2 GHz device, I am just wondering with RPI 2 being 900 MHz, is it powerful enough device as media PC. Especially can we consider it for future proof (may be 3 years)? I am thinking because, I don't want to fall in situation to buy another device only after next 1 year due to RPI2 limitation.
2. When I add case, WiFi dongle, power cable, HDMI cable etc, it's going to about 75 USD. At this price, there are many choices like,
# Android stick MXIII, which seems more powerful with android support
# Dedicated media player like,
http://www.amazon.in/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=media+player
But I don't know, how to compare those with RPI 2 and conclude which one will be more powerful and future proof
Any suggestion?

I have been using Raspberry Pi 2 B+ for a month as media center with the Rasplex OS. I have tried 1080p, 720p and a few different formats like mp4 mkv, avi etc and they all work fine, even while seeking. The main reason for this could be that the processing/trans-coding of the video is done on the server(the files are not stored on Pi, and no HDD is connected to it.) This all works on a WiFi adapter.
If You can use Plex app on Your Android Stick and use a plex server somewhere, You won't need to buy a Pi. Although You would need to buy Plex pass to come over restriction in Android app I think.
Rpi 1 can run almost limitless video bitrate via smb share. But it has issues with very heavy audio since 1 pi's processing power is not great basically. But mines 1 still run movies with 10mbps video and 5mbps audio well. Above that it starts to buffer maybe its network bottlenecking. Audio quality via hdmi is great. I got a pi 2 just a while ago looking forward to test it with openelec. I have chromecast stick too i think that i wouldn't need rpi if i didn't had media at local share. Chromecast is far more better if u use only netflix, viaplay, youtube, popcorn, etc and can use it with android device phone/tablet.
Thanks for replies.
Has anyone connected it to 2.1 speaker system?
Because, that is my one of the aim.
Can anyone tell quality if connected to AV cable/stereo jack?
And, is it possible to get video through HDMI cable and audio through AV cable to 2.1 speaker?
Can someone, who already have similar configuration, help me out to build similar one.

Yes, it can output both video through HDMI cable and audio through AV cable at the same time.

How do you rate quality through AV cable out?
I believe, AV out doesn't give good quality as HDMI.
Through USB sound card on my MK808, I am loosing bass. Woofer doesn't give any sound.
I am worried, same should not be with RPI as I'll loose all fun of watching movies.
Anybody with 2.1 speaker setup hear?

HDMI is better. My 2.1 system is connected to my LG-tv, so i dont know what quality the 3,5 mm output is.

Unfortunately, my LED TC has onlu audio jack. So, if I connect 2.1 system with it, I get very low volume.
So, only option to get sound from RPI AV jack.
Can you check in your system with AV jack and report the difference in output?
Any though on
RPI2 vs MXIII vs MXQ?

Composite video out quality is pretty good. On OpenELEC, playing 720p live stream Russia Today. Output is classic PAL resolution. Image quality is better than 576p SD DVB-S thru SCART with good quality sat reciever. I have big old widescreen CRT Panasonic Quintrix TV.
If you play any 720p movie, quality will be comparable to DVD player with SCART.
I dont know how is your audio input for these 2.1 speakers. Just single 3 pole 3.5mm or also separate one for subwoofer? If it need 2 connectors then you need 5.1 sound card with (usually orange) center/subwoofer connector.
I think you should turn up your headphone volume on your tv

Ideal for local media or media on a NAS but not being able to access Netflix, Hulu etc (like you can on Android) might be a bit of a put off. Shame really coz the Pi2 is more than powerful enough to support these streaming services

[PLEDGE] $50 for Xposed to hack audio to Bluetooth from Android (not from TV)

$50 bounty to a dev who is able to create an Xposed module which hacks the audio so it goes to Bluetooth on the Android 6x & 7x devices (phone, tablet, etc).
Yes, there are other ways to get Bluetooth audio, such as adding a Bluetooth device to your TV output or using an HDMI audio extractor box.
That's not what this thread is about, so please be courteous and keep those discussions out of this thread.
This thread is about Xposed and hacking the audio so it goes to your Bluetooth connected devices in Android. Must work for all casting, such as BeIN Sports app, Netflix, Youtube, etc. etc. etc.
I will update the pledged bounty $$$ amount if anyone else wishes to pledge to the cause. :good:
impossible since none of the content actually goes through the Android device and streams directly to the cast device.
[edit] Only solution for you here is to screen cast to the cast device and then you can use a blutooth speaker since the content is on the Android and playing on it.
Didn't get it clearly... Is it to route your phone audio thru Bluetooth... It's happening already...

The problem is Android device cant act as a sink. So even if you hack the chromecast you also have to hack the mobile device which is quite hard.

The issue here is that the content being casted is only available on one unit unless you screen cast.
CCast gets the content it plays directly, it doesn't go through the Android device that started the cast.
So the only way to get the audio from a casted app to display video on the CCast but play the audio through the Android device is to play the content on the Android device and cast it's screen to the CCast...
But the compression used to screen cast is rarely able to keep up with what you need for playing your average video (It will stutter and grab frames) and even if you manage to get smooth video it's next to impossible to get the audio to sync with the video.
the CCast is not designed to do what is requested.
The best way to do this is to use an old Full Android device with an HDMI port, running something like Plex or Kodi you can target content and pair a BT Headphone or speaker to.
I do something similar to this with my old Xoom.
You can also cast audio through your usb too. Plug a usb wireless sound card and it will work. In anyway, even if you cast the audio from BT it wont be sync. Because both wifi and bt they are buffering so it wont be sync.
Also I couldnt get it clearly whether if you want to stream from chromecast2android or reverse.
