We need more people. C'mon guys. Sign up and make a post or two. I'd really like to see this come to fruition. I've flashed CyanogenMod to my wife's Captivate, my friend's Vibrant, and even to another of my friend's Ascend. The ASCEND! Lets get this rolling on the ZIO already.

Is there anyone running ubuntu that can try to build CM6 from the M6000 source code? I would try it myself but I don't have a reliable internet connection to download the source code for CyanogenMod 6, and without that I can't do anything.

I know what you mean. My wireless tethering is my only source of Internet.

Anyone want to step up and give it a try, earn some respect from the Zio developers?

I sure wish I could understand and write code! I put CM7 on my wife's Ascend & I have her phone more than I have mine & I'm running OPENZIO v 2.1.2!

I feel you. It kind of burns my ass, considering the ZIO is a technologically superior device (or none of us would've bought it), you know. I don't have the knowhow or the resources to do this myself. Don't get me wrong, Spz0 did a GREAT job with OPENZIO, but I'm fairly sure even he'd prefer CyanogenMod support. I've already got a list of people I need to donate to when I get some extra green (also spend A LOT of time on the Galaxy S forums), but there's a hefty one in for the person who makes this happen.

Ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.....

I'll tell you why. The Zio is Kyoceras first smartphone, and it shows... The phone is great, yes, but the innards are hacked together to make a phone. lol It took way too long to do the things I've done to it because of all the hack n' smash techniques these cats used to piece the hw/sw together, so I can see CM's hesitance.
And Yes, I would LOVE a CM release for the Zio -- 6 or 7, doesnt matter.
Am I the guy to do it?
Nahh... Unless I can comatose my wife for 6-8 months while I work on it. o.0
BUT, Im sure _SomeOne_ *cough* will step up to it. (That is if you're lucky enough to get more developers to buy this phone -- most unlikely unfortunately)
I think we'll have more luck with cm6, being as it is 2.2.1. cm7 is 2.3, and we would most likely need a kernel update to be fully compatible (although I've seen cm6 happen with a 2.6.29 kernel).

I'm not sure, but couldn't we make things easier by not trying to build CM6 around the ZIO framework, but building CM6 around the hardware specs? I might be making a total ass of myself here, but is that possible?
Sent from my Zio using XDA App

Thats how it is done. You cant patch CM into our current build -- you need to build CM from scratch using their repo.

So... I'll rise to the task at hand.. Y'all just need to find me some literature telling me how to do this.

Custom rom soon...

I have found a great guide for building a custom rom from other roms or the stock rom and I will be attempting to build my own rom from the stock rom. Although I do like some of spz's ideas I do realize he's a busy man, and I can't wait any longer after flashing a custom rom to my friends Ascend.

Also feel free to join us at #openzio on irc. Please resaerch before asking any how-tos that are already covered.
Also, in part 2 when flashing the rom it says to reboot into recovery. We will use the tether method using openzio's clockworkmod recovery at this point.

I for one am enjoying the Zio It actually feels like a solid device ( Using 2.2 and OpenZio ) compared to my HTC Raphael. Decent specs, just needs a streamlined ROM. Patience is a virtue Besides, Cricket here in Baltimore is AWS so it looks like the device lineup is limited anyway...... you might want to check up on the type of service you are using in your area too Not ANY WCDMA cell will work.....but maybe I should have let you buy it and waste money / time trying to flash it to cricket
Happily enjoying my 50 / Month all everything plan..... much cheaper than the 140 I was paying ATT using my Rhodium. I get the same if not better speeds with MUCH lower latencies!!!!
We've got a pretty decent rom being put together. It's alot of trial and error. We need more help to get to a beta release.
We have many that want custom roms, but how many are willing to contribute?

Ill hop in IRC when I get the chance after I'm done with portal 2. Should be able to flash and test if my off time coincides with when you guys are working on it.

I'm down for being a beta tester. Any chance there'll be an overclockable kernel?
I thought someone was working on an oc but I haven't heard anything recently. I think I'm gonna have to learn to do it. I honestly have no experience overclocking kernels. But if anyone with experience could help it would be much appreciated.

I'm thinking that is a kernel issue, it didn't seem to happen before we overclocked.

Yes when it freezes and takes 3 seconds to turn on from standby. I turned app drawer animation and all other animations off so that helped the general screen problems.

Droid 3 source code

Motorola just released the source code for the Droid 3 on Sourceforge.
Source code
I was just going to start a thread on this edgan
Pardon my French but...
**** YEAH!
So does source mean we just don't have to find an exploit, and can create compatible, rootable ROMs without cracking the official one? Or does it mean we can get root, too?
It means neither. You'd still need signed keys to flash anything created from the released source code.
However, if there are any exploits, having the source might assist in finding them.
Hell yes!

Every single Android device must have the source code released. It's part of the AOSP license, these companies can't use Android without releasing this code.
Yay!
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Yeah I heard that the source code wont help much either.
BUT(not related to this)
I think we have a bigger chance of getting an official sbf now. Reason being is that there is an update that is being pushed to test and dev devices (I think it's 5.6.960 or something), hopefully somewhere between this road a moto employee or tester can give back to the community haha
So a few things of note, and I wanted to articulate this right, those of you in the IRC have heard this rambling.
1) Watchdog. Do NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try to kill a Kernel process. That's another sure-fire way to trip the eFuse, and brick your phone, save you have a SMD compatible JTAG for the FPGA. (If that last part went over your head, DEFINITELY do not attempt)
2) Kernel file "pause_on_oops". If a kernel module is improperly loaded, modified, or unloaded, it will cause a lot of wonky stuff to happen in the kernel. On any kernel panic, the kernel halts instead of dropping to a debugger. It also sets a few flags that stop the kernel from booting, and that in turn sets more flags that stop booting, ad nauseum.
This still leaves bugs and stuff to explore. Race conditions, buffer overflows and the likes are still likely targets.
@royolpunk
Have to agree on that, i'm not too fussed tbo but i'd like to fix the blue camera tint.

Obviously, having source code once we root will be of enormous help in developing quality kernels and ROMs (like cyanogenmod!), but won't help rooting right now. All the doors are locked, but now we know who lives inside
So speaking of race conditions, is there any point to exploring the bootloader-to-recovery race condition (via messing with the sdcard slot) that allowed the Droid Incredible to be root (even before Unrevoked figured out a general HTC exploit kit), or are we talking apples to oranges?

Android 2.3.4 on LG Thrill

Basically, that page is telling you to do something that just isn't possible at this time. In order to install CM7 (what that page is suggesting), someone will have to port it to our specific device. There are going to be things that will need drivers, recompiling, etc. before it can be installed on a Thrill.

Give the Guy a break. Everyone starts out learning like we all did. Basically the link you referenced was simply asking if it could be done, and like another poster explained a cyanogen mod would have to be created yet nobody has made one for the device yet most likely since its so new. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately LG has to build the source if you want to be able to use the 3D stuffs. We have cm7 that works but due to real3d being proprietary an aosp gingerbread build wont allow for that stuff to work.

Patience. Remember that this is a new phone. And the 3D application is still new so it takes a bit to get things optimized for specialized features on devices.
I believe they're making some progress on CM for the EVO3D. Should be somewhat applicable.

There is also progress being made on the Optimus 3D, which is essentially the same device as ours. Patience will pay off on this one.
OP: don't take all the angry/annoyed comments too personally, I think my first post here got the same reaction! Nobody is trying to be an asshole to you though, its just that the rules are pretty clear but there's a constant influx of new members who unknowingly break the rules and it annoys the devs that want to use this sub-forum for its intended use. I was running some unofficial build of CM7 for a couple weeks this month, it was clearly made for the optimus 3d, not thrill, and I didn't even try using any of the 3d applications because people complained about it causing force closes... But other than that, it was extremely impressive! The speed/fluidity was incredible. I didn't like how it handled storage, but that was my first time using CM7 so I probably just need to get used to it.
Anyway, if you can go without 3d for a while, the unofficial CM7 port for optimus 3d is impressive! I think the link is on the dev forum in optimus 3d. Oh, and I personally didn't have any problems with my network data, so I'd suggest trying it out before flashing some other radio, it might not be necessary.
Can this post be moved to the "General" section yet since there's no "Development" going on in it?
