soo, you have Linux (I assume). You are in the minority.
Audiogalaxy is a much more viable option, unless you are on linux, then try this.

http://www.subsonic.org/pages/index.jsp FTW.

+1 for audiogalaxy. This thread brought me to it and my lord is it awesome

That it is sir. I use it everyday. I use pandora to discover music, sound hound to find out what that song is, and music junk to download it.
I <3 free music apps!
Also, Good find billygoat32. That renders this WHOLE thread useless, as it is available for every OS.

I would have to say GMote. It talks seamlessly with your computer, so that you have your entire music collection with you. It streams rather well... Its nice when you have a Multi TB music collection.

do you mind me asking how do you have yours set up? i was only able to get it to work via my home wifi connection (same goes for all of the "remote" apps, ie. remote desktop & rdp, phonemypc). but i need it to work from a remote location.
before the last update google maps had me off by quite a bit now its dead on and I dont lose signal as often either....
Head to DynDns.com and set up DNS account (free). Have it tied to your ip address. Then, for gmote settings, instead of your internal IP, put in your chosen web address.

Nextel eat your heart out!
My fav is the app called "tikl" it is just like nextels PTT system but for android and doesnt use your minutes! international calling say what? lol its beta and free atm... I would pay for an app that is just like nextels ptt... the beta is good but it could be better... hint hint devs!
Maybe not very exciting, but I've found I can't live without LauncherPro.
For more neat-o factor, c:geo and Robotic Guitarist.

camera 360
i use so many useful apps all the time for different things I have my favorite app of the week. Camera 360. There is free and paid. you can take a photo and it will add effects that the stock camera does not. It can take the picture and "sketch" it so it looks as someone drew it. it also does that with painting which is neat. it will also add a ghost into the pics just for fun or creepy with kids or something. It's fun. I paid for the app after using free and it adds the ability to take a b/w photo with color added to just one spot or something. it is neat.
tried the camera 360 but it drained my battery fast I still use it from time to time.

New Media Hub App from Epic 4g

Works with the Captivate.
You got a link for the app so other people can try?

Working for anyone?

The Epic media hub works lol.
It's a nice app. Very fast and video quality is awesome. If the price of renting movies and tv shows was $1 like Redbox I could actually see myself using this sometimes.
How do you insall it if you do not mind me asking?

Seeing as how you are brand new I will help you out.
Download the file and transfer it to your phone. Download apps installer or some other file manager from the market, most require your phone to be rooted. Click on the file and install.
Next time though make sure you read around the forum as it is discussed in lots of places how to install apk files.
The app looks nice, but who is going to pay $3 for one episode of a tv show? If Samsung is going to play in this space they better get the cost down or everyone is going to pass them buy.
Personally, I don't even like paying $1 for something i can transfer from my DVR.
so.... unsupported file type?
I downloaded Iron Man from the media hub and my captivate says "device does not support requested file type" has anyone else had an issue with this?
Mine won't play the picture. Frustrating

No need to root your phone. You just need to sideload the apk.
Here's some links on how to do that

Awesome! Too bad it's becoming something I might not ever use. Still wanted to say thanks for sharing this.
Wouldn't you need to root the phone as there is already a Media Hub app on /system?

Bah - my brother has the Epic and was able to rent/dl movies from it.
Of course the Captivate doesn't work at all. Any word from Samsung if they are currently working on a fix? Or is this yet another lockdown from AT&T to prevent us from using it and just missed the "to be removed" on the ol' checklist?
works great. The TV section is lacking but the Movie selection is quite impressive.
Are you saying that you're able to watch movies?
Mine just shows a black screen too

Motorola Music Player 1.0.179

And no, the radio does not work on our device!
Credit to ghostrid3r for finding this:

Lyric download
ShoutCast Radio
Music videos channels
FM Radio - (Does not work on Epic)
and much much more!!
Got this from Androidphonefans a few days ago. Really liking it, especially the shoutcast and tunewiki lyrics integration. Used it nonstop on an hour long bus ride the other day, no crashes at all. U.I navigation back to library could be more intuitive but for now it's my defaulf music player.

sounds like a good idea to keep this as an ongoing thread... wonder if it would be better to have a separate one for each app or a single mega thread that keeps getting updated?

Probably just keep this going and update the original post so the board doesn't get full with crap. Only problem is the apps get released at 2:00am my time. I probably won't have the thread updated till about 6:00am CST.

Always good to have as a reminder, and maybe reviews. I downloaded it on my N1 today, haven't had time to try on my Xoom. But free is good, so the worst that can happen is I don't like it and have to blow it away. My only complaint, after rooting tonight and having to reinstall the Amazon apps is that it only lets you download and install one at a time, quite the PITA since I had over a weeks worth of stuff to catch up on. 12 downloads, one at a time.
Today's app is Fruit Ninja but it does not appear to be the version designed for Tegra processors.

Really wish it was the THD version. But free is free.
Weatherbug Elite today. Grab it for your phone and get the free tablet version from the market.
I wanted to try this app!
Thanks!
Flight control today. Tablet ready.
Thanks.... got flight control
Get it while you can. Ad free and looks fantastic on the tablet.
This version of Backbreaker Football will not play on the Xoom. However, there is a THD version out there if you really want to play the game.
sorry I missed flight control; I bet it looks great on the Xoom..
I have a hd backbreaker file. It seems like this forum doesn't accept .apk postings of actual files... if anybody wants me to upload it to rapidshare or something just let me know

podcast app?

what podcast app do you guys use? im looking for a automatic downloader, like itunes.
10 characters
You could use Juice and have it download podcasts into a folder that Audiogalaxy, subsonic, or google music beta is watching and then just listen to them as they download and appear automatically.
Google listen works great for me.

Doggcatcher is amazing, however I am probably going to build one myself.

im liking tunein alot! you can add preset podcast channels online and access your list on the xoom.

Yeah same here, really like it.
What does Dogcatcher and BeyondPod offer that Google Listen doesn't? I've started listening to podcasts a lot and curious if I should try these other apps.
Question: Any of these allow you to mark for offline listening/watching? Sort of like a..."Download now" button? Rather stream it...
doggcatcher is by far the most feature rich of the apps. i listen to at least 40 weekly podcasts (long commute, lots of driving for work) and I have tried all of the major apps. It even has a honeycomb layout (although that needs polishing). As far as the distinctions, it allows you to set both universal and podcast specific settings as far as autodownloads, listing, delete policies, etc. Its podcast search features are also outstanding. Another feature I use its backup and import/export abilities which means I can keep my settings between rom flashes, devices, etc... I could go on...
I encourage the other poster who said he was building his own (something I did a while back, but abandoned) to keep pushing the improvement. Things that would be cool are cloudsync (just track progress, read/unread, etc), better tablet layout, and better widgets.
but simple answer to OP: doggcatcher

Just purchased DoggCatcher, and I must say. WOW.
Worth every penny, Kind of a turn off that there wasn't a lite version that I could test with, but you know..15min window. but everyone reading this...believe me....WORTH IT 100%.
Thank you diaa08 for recommending this application. I am now using it on my Tablet as well as my Phone. ;-)

Yeah, I want to be able to sync my phone and tablet at the same time. However I also want to go one step further and sync the downloaded file locally over wifi
