[Q] Help with themeing an .apk - Android Themes

Ok here is my dilema, I am trying to take this .apk (it's a clock):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rkyy0n1tba6xleu/Mods/Sshick Animated
and change a few of the .pngs to make it a little more to my liking, I have red animated second hands and a background with the "Miui" erased. I opened it with 7zip and replaced the the .pngs with mine and everything seemed to go just fine. But when I try and install it on my phone it says "Installation failed" whereas the original ^ installed like a regular .apk through Astro just fine. The only way I could get it to install was by pushing it to system/app with RootExplorer, but I would like non-rooted people to be able to enjoy this.
So my question is, did I package it wrong or did I have to edit an .xml or something or what did I do that makes it not install like the original? Because I didn't think just swapping out some .pngs would cause that much of a change. And yes they were all named exactly the same as the original and I have no other versions of the clock installed at the time. Thanks in advance for any help that can be given.
This is what the clock looks like when it's finished (installed via RootExplorer):

I believe you need to sign it again. Search for Auto-Sign app.

You have to sign it. You can do it on your phone with Signapktic from Stericson on the Market. Or there's a bunch of ways to do it on your computer, the easiest being the Auto signer.

Wow thank you guys so much for the help, I knew it was something like that but didn't know how to fix it. Got it working though and it looks good and installs just like it's supposed to. Idk if it's your kind of thing, but I attached the apk so you can use it or test it out or whatever. Thanks again.

froyo 2.2 transparent status/task notification?

i'm looking for a transparent/shaded status or taskbar notification background. so what im really looking for is the background of the pull down tab to be specific. ive found one on this forum but metamorph wont let me flash it and i cant flash it because the package isnt signed.... let alone i do not know if it actually works or not ^^;;
a little info on my phone... im on a HTC Tattoo (Click) with 2.2 froyo without sense ROM.
ive attached the file so you guys can see. oh and another thing ive been having some sort of weird problem with my metamorph where when i start it it has to do a check but it says that i dont have enough memory but i definitely do have more than enough on the SD card and the phone.
thanks in advance!
your lack of experience shows. if you want help, find the specific png (aka image) that you are speaking about. then type it out here for people to read. then rather than posting a whole framework randomly, post something useful, like the image itself. explain what it looks like and then explain your 50% transparency request.
for example: i got that from your request, you want this image called status_bar_background. i made it 50% transparent myself and am showing you it using tinypic.com where you can upload any image for free and post it using the code.
the left image is the actual png image in framework-res.apk/framework/drawable-hdpi. the right image shows what it looks like on your phone.

Right so now that I have the png how does one go about installing it?

[Q] Is there a way to get rid of TouchWiz screen number?

Has someone found a hack to get rid of the page/screen number in the default twLauncher on this phone?
I only have one page and find it annoying to see the number 1 at the top all the time.

Or install LauncherPro from the market and it will get rid of them for you. Of course the interface will be altered by this.
www.launcherpro.com
Like I said, I dont want to change launcher.
I installed launcherPro on my first i9000...
Was positioning my screen icons when I accidentally managed to get 2 to occupy the same space... Bug... crash. System was stuck in a infinite loop trying to show both icons. Rebooting just got me back into the loop. Recovery mode disabled on my phone. Long story short I had a bricked phone!
Now my new phone doesnt have recovery either... so... You get the picture.
For the same reason I dont want to edit the apk myself because I cant recover. I was just looking to see if someone else had done it and had a tested solution.
I did look into the framework but I havent found the xml that contains this bit of interface yet...
Its not in the framework, i think its part of the launcher.
Indeed. Obviously part of TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
would love to know this too
bloody annoying having one home screen and having to still show the number on it

Where are Cognition wallpapers located?

Hi is there a way to recover the stock cog 4.1.1 wallpaper without flashing again? (The blue diagonal wave) I'm not sure where the directory is located to assign it again. Its the nicest version so far imo. Help please.
Not positive but Titanium backup might have this available if you backup all user apps + system data. Obviously do not restore all user apps + system data. Instead uncheck everything and look for the wallpaper option.

I don't remember what Cog runs, but I'll throw in my two cents
Normally, wallpapers are found in Launcher.apk, but like I said, I'm not sure if Cog comes with Launcher.apk or if it uses TouchWiz. If it uses TouchWiz, I would assume it's in one of its APKs, though I can't tell you which one as I've always hated TouchWiz and now I don't have my phone to mess around with it (replaced by HTC Inspire all the way ~).
Try framework-res.apk in the the res/drawable-hdpi folder. Its called default_wallpaper. From the Atrix, I believe.

Cappysw10 thanks very much, this is exactly what I was looking for!

a.i.type transparent and white keyboard HDPI

I bought this keyboard a.i type even though i have flex t9, swift key, swype, android standard, htc, and i actually find this the best as i always mistype alot of stuff on my phone, and unlike swiftkey it doesnt add "the" where ever it likes. It beeps when you get a spelling wrong and auto corrects, MAGIC!
I have gotten a bit bored of the stock skin, so decided to theme a little with some transparency, and subtle color changes.
Theres a market link to the app im talking about.

I have been talking with mayfield03 on here, and hes got me into looking at this last week, but anyway i thought i would share this with the rest of you. (thanks mayfield) apologies that it looks a bit rubbish.
screen shots from it running on my EVO 3d

HOW to install
1 download the file
Download
get your APK, ( i didnt want to give the apk here as that would be piracy)
extract your apk from /data/app (use root explorer to copy the file to your memory card)
use 7zip to open the APK on your desktop and then drop in the files which i have on my zip
download SIGNAPKTIC from the markey "stericcsons app"
sign the apk which we have edited.
https://market.android.com/details?...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zdGVyaWNzb24uc2lnbmFwa3RpYyJd
USE THE TEST KEY
Now run the signed apk, which should have been placed on the root of your memory card, it will install the app over the top of the old one, i used ASTRO to run this.
Done.
I may come back to this to enhance, we will see. Let me know what needs doing.
PART 2, White/Green skin
install the same way

As far as .xml files go, im not very good.
So im pushing this out to the more experience people with greater knowledge than me on how to solve and improve things.
To apply this:
place it in to the folder Miui/gadget/clock
Than apply it by selecting the clock2x2 widget then select them ziiiro
UPDATED attachment.
please retest .
Silly question, but how to apply it?
