md5 checksum mismatch on backup - LG Optimus 2x

I was fooling around with new ROM's.
When i wanted to return to my previously backup i got the "MD5 Cheksum wrong"
I then had a look at the backup i wanted to use, and checked all of the checksums manualy (using a md5 checksum checker)..........all of the MD5's it the "nandroid.md5" were correct.
The only thing i had changed was the folder name........
Any syggestions on how i can get the backup to work?........or make it skip the MD5 checksum check?

Rename the folder back to what it was.

He he.......yes, i keept those 12 digits in my memory.......
/irony may occur in the previous sentence
But i renamed it on a hunch, and either i was extremely lucky, or "close" is good enough.......i doubt i got it right down to the seconds.
But i'm restoring it now.
For future use, can i make a folder with a name of my choice to put the backup in, and then restore from within that folder??

Yeah I'm guessing there is a 'close enough' element involved. As for moving it, I don't think you can unfortunately.
I suppose you could move it someplace and stick it back in the /clockwork/backup folder when you want to restore though. Not ideal, though.

You cant have any space in folder name...
Use underline _ instead

"Naming" a Nandroid Backup

Anyone know if there is a way to give a nandroid backup a name of your choosing? Sometimes when I'm flash and loading a bunch of different stuff I like to do nandroid backups before each one so I can save my phone in various states. unfortunately that means that just the date and time stamp naming convention isn't enough for me to locate the exact one I want to restore.

Yep, drag them to your pc and just rename them!
That's the easy way anyway.
Whenever I flash a new rom and I like it, I backup a full clean install so I can start from scratch again, it's better then going through the syncing and logging in again.
I also store mine on the pc, so if my card gets fubar'd then I've still got them.
great idea....never even considered that.
thanks
Not to sound rude, but I would think that'd be the most obvious solution to your question.. o_0

Just use any file explorer (Astro, ES, etc.) and rename the backup file to anything you like...
i just tried to restore a nandroid backup, i did as above says, i went on the PC and re-named backup as something i`d remember put it back on the Desire, and nandroid just fails instantly at `MD5 mismatch`
could this be because the folder name changes after the backup has been made??, thanks.
You don't even need a computer to name your backups. All you need to do is download ROM manager from the market (the free version will suffice). Then whenever you need to make a nandroid backup, open the app, choose "Backup current ROM" and it will automatically ask you to name your backup from the get-go so that there aren't any problems afterwards.

I get the mismatch failed sometimes if my battery isn't sufficiently charged. Renaming the folder won't mess up your backup.
If you use ROM Manager, it will allow you to specify the name of the backup before you create them and it generates the appropriate MD5 sum.

Which is exactly what I said just two post before this one.
when you rename a nandroid backup on your phone using a file explorer, don't put spaces when you rename it, putting spaces gives it an md5sum mismatch.

Restore Nandroid backup from different phone?

Can I restore a nandroid backup from a friends phone on to my phone?
Are there any problems that may occur if I do this?
In theory it should work. AS LONG AS BOTH OF YOU TWO HAVE THE SAME PHONE!!!
Try it and find out, but remember:
ONLY YOU ARE RESPONIBLE FOR BRICKING YOUR PHONE NANDROID FIRST!
Yes..
On your sdcard is a folder named nandroid. Inside this folder is a folder named HTXXXXXXXXXXXXX. This is your device id. Inside that folder are folders with dates. These folders hold all of the images from the backup. You will want to take one of these folders and place it into the same folders on your sdcard. The device ID folder has to be your device ID.
location|| Device ID ||Name of Nandroid (Folder)
|------||-------------||-------------------|
/sdcard/HT01FHF02297/BDES-20100412-1746
You can also change the Name of the Nadroid folder for easir reference, but it can not have spaces

Yeah, it can be done. In fact, I actually save all my nandroids to my computers for safety reasons (e.g., in case my SD card dies on me, or my nandroid becomes corrupted for some unknown reason(s)). Anyway, just place the nandroid in the nandroid/HT[whatever_u'r_id_is]/ on u'r sd card as uncorrupted states above. It shouldn't mess with u'r phone number or what not... but although, you may end up with the same contacts, lol. I'm not sure how that aspect of it works... Try it and find out
I wonder if the nandroid's use the device ID number to label each nandroid (within) the file and if it has to match the device being flashed to... anyway, let us know how it comes out if you do try it. And remember, nandroid u'r current setup first before trying it, just in case it messes up u'r phone for some reason. But I honestly don't fore see that happening. Good luck!
Sorry if i sounds stupid, but I'm not used to nandroid stuff. i understand most of it but in theory can i just place my sd card into my new aria (my current one has a broken screen) and nandroid backup it? should it be ok?

You should be ok. It will make a new device folder in the nandroid folder, then you can manually move your others over to the new one.

No confirmation post
I wish he would have confirmed this works, I just got a lemon exchange from the SHack and I'm wondering if I have to set it all back up or if I can just restore to an old backup. I understand that this works in theory and I get the whole changing the device id thing but there is no confirmation that this works.
BUT i will try and give a yay or nay confirmation now.
Edit: IT DOES Work. I did this on a LG G2x. It did not have the device ID I expected., (worried me a little it was the wrong stuff), I assume some phone have this some don't, but as far as I can tell this worked just fine.
I'm geeked when i realized I had to redo my 12 emails and sign into a dozen or more apps and config all those personalized settings again I was pissed. But now I'm good.
Thanks XDA and all the Devs and Geeks out there that make this a great site.
no folder as nandroid only clockworkmod which as all my backup. opening a backup folder shows XXXXX.md5, XXXXX.vfat.tar, XXXXX.rfs.tar, XXXXX.rfs.tar, XXXXX.rfs.tar

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery - always wrong backup date

I tried both Paul's version and the latest clockworkmod recovery from ROM Manager, but both of these would put wrong backup dates in the backup image files and folder. What's wrong? The phone or the recovery program??
It's a bit inconvenient, since if i rename to the correct date/time, the MD5 checksum would be wrong, so I need to keep the wrong ones as well.
What I observed is that the month is always +1 and the time is always using UTC timezone.

i am definitely noobie, so i could be totally wrong. please anybody correct me if say something totally absurd.
md5 checksum is for individual image files, not entire directory. for example mine is
# cat nandroid.md5
ee5f9313d30caa0956a8a6b24f75ddfa boot.img
8786667ac7d45546156b2e19bc0168cf cache.img

93c71d12eab5c13d2a66e08a1b346696 system.img
i don't think renaming the directory will affect any md5 checking. sure, it is a bit inconvenient, but not the end of the world, i guess. maybe you can copy whole directory, rename it, and do recovery see if that works.
i agree wrong date is probably bug, and should be fixed.
as for time, i'm guessing (and i'm totally guessing here) that system is using UTC and get timezone information from network, so that clock is always correct even though you travel other region, instead of using local clock and figure out UTC. another reason i can think of is to use android market. i don't know why market checks time and date, but lots of people reported not being able to use market when date is set wrong. since market (or any other google servers) is kind of global, it is just easy to use UTC and then apply local time zone.
you may be able to disable getting clock from network by go and uncheck "Settings > Date & Time > Automatic" and manually set your local clock might do the trick ?
I have the same problem, its really annoying to restore several backups before you find the latest.
You can easily rename backups through ROM manager
I currently have backups named MCR14 and CM-nightly. I have them both on SD and internal memory due to CM switching them around.

yes, that's what I thought. But when I restore the whole backup (not individual img) in the clockworkmod recovery, it was not allowed. Then I renamed the folder to the original date/time, it passed. So, maybe the recovery program actually did check the files's dates against the folder name then? if not, then probably my new name was a bit long.
Did you put a space in the new name? It doesn't like them.
oh yes, then that's the reason.
now i use rom manager's interface, and it defaults the folder name to the correct date & time, that's good enough (although the actual file date/time still wrong)

I have this issue as well and its bloody effing annoying. Makes it more of a hassle restoring your backups.
Please fix ASAP.
Not only that, but it sometimes changes the system date when flashing a new ROM to a month in the past as well...
Anybody know who the dev is (so we can let them know as they obviously don't seem to know about it)?

Amonth in the past I could live with. But CWM 3.2.0.0 ALWAYS puts mine a month in the future, so If I get a text/call before changing the date then that stays at the top of the list for a whole month. VERY silly schoolboy error.
I always rename backup folders, have been for a year. No issues.

[Q] EFS partition

Hello
I have a Samsung Galaxy S with SlimBean Installed, previously I had the stock 2.3.3 XEF version and CM9
When I rooted the device for first time the first thing I did ws backing up the EFS partition, I have made subsequent backups since then. However, the files don't seem to be equal and don't match the .MD5 signatures provided.
Do the files in this partition change over time? Does that mean they are getting corrupted? The most logical thing would be that the signatures matched the files but they don't..
Thank you.
Hello
Any ideas of why this happens and if it's normal?
Thank you.
And I've just checked my phone, the .bak files have dissapeared.
I've got an old backup tho, but why did they dissapeared?
Thanks.
Edit: The rest of the files are in the efs folder, they weren't displayed because Slim filemanager doesn't show hidden files by default.
So the only question remaining is: Do you know why the MD5 signatures don't match the files?
Thank you.
I think since IMEI is unchanged - thats ok. The most important file you have to keep is nv_data.bin (i think that one) it holds your IMEI. So as long as your phone works - no panic.

Hello
Thanks. But why does the hash change and differs from it's MD5 signature?
Probably so.. dont worry about it and keep nv_data.bin just in case.

[Q] Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 how to restore ECS files?

EDIT: By ECS i meant EFS (don't know how to edit the title)
Hey guys, first time posting in the galaxy tab forums.
Gonna try be as specific and brief as i can:
Sister has a P1000 with stock gingerbread.
I updated it to CM9 like this: rooted it -> installed CWM -> used root explorer to backup ecs folder -> downloaded CM9 from official CM page -> install as zip file.
First thing i noticed is that i have no IMEI and the radio is not working. I googled a bit, downloaded a radio, installed and now it works, i have network. However, i also have the infamous 004999XX IMEI which is giving me some problems in some apps.
I googled and tried lot's of things i found here on xda and some other forums.. Nothing worked.
First thing i did:
Deleted everything in ecs folder
Copied everything from the backup folder to ecs
Made sure nv_data.bin had radio as owner
Reboot
Didn't work
Next:
Deleted only the bin and md5 files
Copied .nv_data.bak from backup to ecs folder and rename ir properly
chown to radio
Reboot
Same thing
I also tried other variations, none worked.
Funny thing is that in the backup folder, the md5 hashes stored in the md5 files are not the same as the real hashes of the bin files, is this normal?
For example: in .nv_data.bak.md5 the hash stored is 2a3e2340b5f66adb17f2d1e9d95ceca5 but the real hash of the .nv_data.bak is f8638a35a8cd952ecff2a97f60b24b4d. Same goes for the nv_data.bin file
Other thing i noticed, if i upload the nv_data.bin file to ecs and reboot the device for it to create the md5 file, the system modifies it, it gets a different hash.. is this normal?
I am doing all this in ICS of course, i read it's preferred to do it in the stock rom, but i want it working with this one.. What am i missing?
Sometimes, what you want isn't going to work.
Just restock, it took 3 minutes to do ( download time is another)
Follow my signature, use overcome method. Read the from page 7 of the pdf.

Thank you.. my IMEI is back, even on ICS now..
I'm guessing it didn't work the first time because i went from stock gingerbread to ICS without any preparations.
Again, thank you so much.
