Nook Color duct tape case - Nook Color Accessories

so this whole thing started when I got a few scratches on the back of my nook color after a few days. I didn’t have the money to buy a nice case yet, so I did what I usually do... Make one out of duct tape so I just used normal tape and made a big piece of fabric, cut it to the right size and put the little corner holder things on. Unfortunately, I didn’t think about the corner holder things blocking the volume and power buttons :/ but its not so bad. I later colored it up with other colors of duct tape and cut up the back of spiral notebooks and made a smart cover rip off

MacGyver would be very proud!
Honestly, that's a pretty awesome way to use duct tape!
that case looks great and according to the pictures, it seems pretty sturdy!
I see you tried to keep the ipad case style, and it seems it's strong enough
to be used as a stand.
Great job man!

Thanks it is pretty sturdy, but don't think it would last for more than 3 or so months before it starts to come apart... but then I could just make a new and improved one

This is Epic Win.

I'm thinking about improvising a case myself, though I may have a mod-able case on hand, so I can probably avoid going the duct tape route
Still, solidly constructed given the materials at hand.

u have any instructions on how to make that? its really cool

I have been looking for a case just like this, except without the duct tape since I got my nook 5 months ago. I want the fold open case that folds underneath to make a stand for easier typing. Has anyone seen one?

Just search "Nook Color Case" on Amazon and there are at least 3 of them. I want to grab one pretty soon, too. I swear the rooCase portfolio was 23.99 the other day
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...words=nook+color+case&sprefix=nook+color+case

Excellent. I missed this Roo case. I had only seen the vertical one.
http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Easy-...TF8&coliid=I3DRJSW0WIXJU6&colid=1RFCYIM3A0T3N
I have also heard good things about this case from another thread, but it doesn't look as nice, but is half the price.
http://www.amazon.com/CrazyOnDigita...TF8&coliid=I3RDRQ6QU0UQTP&colid=1RFCYIM3A0T3N

The second one looks pretty decent for the money.
I went with this guy, the brown one: http://www.javoedge.com/reflexeshop/productCatalog/getProduct.do?poid=3171&pbmId=18384
I saw their Cocoa Cherry Blossom one on Amazon and liked where it was coming from in terms of the style, but it's obviously kind of girly. They had a ton more styles on their own site, and they all have that casual-but-not-sporty look that I haven't really seen anywhere else. I went with flip because it seemed more flexible in terms of propping it either portrait or landscape, and it seemed more secure for travel with the NC enclosure being open at the top.

it was 24.99! I was goanna buy it :/

i love it, totally gettoicious

Before seeing this post, yesterday, I was going to cut up an old HP (Now called Agilent Technologies) instrumentation catalog I had just tossed for recycling. Basically a large textbook, and use its hardbound covers. Duct tape was in the front of my thoughts.
Then I spotted some cd cases on my shelf from the dollar store... I unsewed the cd slips, and made a nice soft neoprene padded cover.
I put two small fuzz velcro strips on the back of the nc, the case already had a hook velcro in a good spot,
and the case just fits to cover the front, over the top, and down the back, just a bit short, but leaves the speaker open to the air, and a bit off a table, where it reflects its pee-poor volume.
Now I have a padded cover with neoprene or nylon coating for a buck.

has anyone found a decent belt holder for the streak

just about to buy the streak and want to know if anyone has found a decent holder which can fasten to a belt ... dont wanna but the streak in a pocket due to issues which users have had with the screen cracking and want something which i can walk around with and have the phone on my belt like normal ...
any ideas ????
I went to target and bought a nintendo DS zippered case. I ripped out the plastic DS holder from the inside and glued the zipper closed about an inch down the long side so it only opens across the top.
I hook the caribeener to a belt clip. it is about the perfect size. It slips in easily and has a fair amount of padding for bump-proofing it.. Can't beat it for $10.00.

Below are some pics showing where I glued the zipper closed to make it into a slip pouch and how it fits using the poly case from Dell

so you have the case just flapping about on your waist?
easecases on ebay are your best bet on a quality case at this point

It doesn't flap badly. When I get the chance, I'm going to sew a loop for another caribeener on the other side so it rides more even. I also get nervous for it while riding my harley around and a second hook is cheap and easy security.
Got this one from ebay, its fraying a bit around the edges and worryingly the screen rests against the magnets or if you flip the streak over the screen is against the metal belt hook, although i've used it daily for around 6 weeks with no damage done.

I'll second that Easecase suggestion... Don't let that 'made-to-order from china' tag drive you away, mine is pretty high quality stuff. Word of warning though: if you are ordering a vertical slip case, I would suggest requesting a slightly looser fit. Even though it fits perfectly, the large flat surface area of the Streak adds to the resistance involved in inserting/removing the phone (though I suspect the problems with mine will fade as I break the case in).
I will vote for the ease case from ebay also. They may be made in china but the fit and quality are great. They are easy to work with also.

+1 with gilrad, the only downside was that it takes about a month for it to arrive which wasn't so great for me cos I also requested for the case to be slightly bigger but they didn't actually make one slightly bigger so I have to wait another month for them to send me it...though they were kind enough to let me keep the one they sent. At first, I couldn't even fit my phone in (especially with an invisible shield on, but I've managed to stretch it slightly but it's still tough to slight in and out.

This is the one i made
I got the £3,99 flipcase from RebelSIMCard.
It has a belt clip with a lock so the case cannot slip from the belt.
Quality is not super but for the price you can't go wrong!

Just ordered my easecase... I requested that they make it slightly larger - we'll see if that works out.
BTW, you guys are going to put me in the poor house! LOL! $40 here... $20 there... I keep spending money on this darn thing! LOL!

Kobo/Kindle case?

Does anyone know if any ebook reader cases fit with the samsung, other than there's no camera hole? I need a cheep case, I can't afford to pay 70 for a real samsung Tab case.
Wallmart kindle cases fit nicely. I looked today.
Galaxy Tabs.....Worth every penny!!
Nook cases appear to /mostly/ fit, though the bottom holding area needs to be trimmed back to expose the buttons.
The port at the bottom's accessible, the top elastic ties appear to hold it well. Lose the camera port, but meh, doesn't worry me at all about that. But the feel of the leather is great, and there's a bit of room for business cards (or more likely sim card holders/SDcards) and I can clip my bluetooth headset around the top elastic band things (what IS the right word for them?) and it all holds together nicely.
It's got some quote on the front, but maybe I should have got it blank and carefully wrote in using a Gold Ink Pen thing 'Holy Knowledge" in uber gothic script.
So far, so good. Shame I had to hack at it a bit, but I think it was worth it.
I'll pop up a picture later if I can wrestle it back off the GF (curse you Angry Birds)

Yeah, this is the one I got too & it fits perfect. I also like the fact that it has a flap instead of a zipper. I turn the Tab upsidedown & tuck the flap behind, leaving the Tab's speakers exposed so I can hear any calls or notifications I get while Im on the go.
I'll post some pics when I get home.

Modified K3 by Oberon design
Without a rubber cover on my tab, my Kindle 3 cover from Oberon Design fit tight but secure. However, I also wanted to add the rubber/silicone cover so my using the same marine grade cover elastic band to each corner, I now have a perfect fit and beatific case custom made for my Sam Gal. Tab.
Yes, I bought a Nook case and I love it...I also put an clear hard case over my tab to give a tighter fit...here r some pics...

Updated 5/17/2011 with pics - New Dell Streak 5 leather case... quite impressive!

I was bored at work today, so I started perusing the ebay listings for Dell Streak 5 cases.
I found this leather case and I must say, I'm quite impressed with the way it looks. I think I am going to buy one for me and my wife.

front view closed
back view closed (note that the opening for the camera was a bit shallow on mine. I had to cut it out a bit more. My wife's was perfect...)
open with flap/kickstand
side view
Other interesting items...
it doesn't have the cutout to insert the PDMI cord for connecting. Easy enough to cut it out, but I haven't yet. Also, the buttons on top (volume, shutter, on/off), don't have cutouts. there is an overlapping piece of leather that folds over the top of the streak to hold it in, or whatever. I kind of like it
Lastly, there is an elastic band keeping the case closed. I can foresee this wearing out, but nontheless, it's there and it works nicely. you can see it on the front closed view (first pic). Its a lighter brown stripe.
I give this case a 7 our of 10. Definitely better than the stock leather case from Dell. I figure I'll keep my otterbox in my car to mount in my holder and use this one in my backpack and moving about. It protects the streak quite nicely!
Nice like the look of the case.... Looks like PayPal is going to get a hammering

wow...nice indeed...i will wait for you guys to do a review first.i will get one after aswell.cheers for the tip.
Thats probably the best looking case I've seen so far. Love the stand feature! One problem I see is that if you need to take a picture, you won't be able to fold the front flap over because it would be blocking the camera, so you may have to hold it up wit the knuckle of the finger pressing the camera shutter button.
find it.nvm.just cant made my mind with one to buy!
Try the search function m8.
Hm, not a big fan of this one, and it's all because of how the device is held in.
I got the Dell branded leather book case and my favorite thing about it is that the actual piece that holds the phone is thin but very sturdy plastic sewn into the leather on the inside. The plastic covers NONE of the face of the device.
Then again, it cost twice as much, so I can see how this would be a good budget option for the same style.
I always have mine clipped into a my car dock or in a pocket that has nothing in to scratch it,I just use a protector on the screen. It is very nice though and could be a good one for long journeys and storage.
The problem I find is that it's too damn sexy to cover up!
Looks pretty nice

[Review]Multi-Angle Leather Folio Case from Anker

Here is the album of more photos of the case....
https://plus.google.com/photos/1042...ms/5777724988825050929?authkey=CIzz9oGX49azaA
What we have here today is what I got today in the mail. A multi angle leather folio by Anker. See amazon link above for their details. It is $9usd PLUS shipping, depending on where you are. If you are on prime, then more power to ya. LOL
Anyway into the case...
I have to preface, I do not normally buy cases like this for a 7 inch tablet. I was given this to review and just giving it my fair shake....
This case is a good case for $9usd. At this price point you cannot really expect quality like Marware, so please keep that in mind. However, IMO, the fair price for this type of case, I would put it in the $20 range.
Leather...is this leather? Seems like it, but it is very thinly bound to the card stock cover. The stitching is ok, because of the quality of leather, I didn't expect a lot. As for added bulk...it does add as much bulk as my Treegloo case though. But the only thing this case has going for it is the multi-angle viewing ability.
This is done by a snap button found on kids winter coats. Meaning it's a bit bulky, but it does the rotating without a large rotating mechanism. The only negative about this is that the button kind of protrudes out to the backing, in which you can see here.
Now getting this to landscape mode is self explanatory, but using this to read portrait needed a little fiddling. In using the case in portrait, you have to swivel the case and then only the middle and outer groove can be used. If you use the back end groove, the tablet is guaranteed to fall on itself. You can kinda use the outer edge groove, however. And you can use this in portrait AND charge at the same time. Win!
And another thing about this case that I liked is that the case can come apart. Being the rotating mechanism is a button, you can undo it and carry it like a normal case without a front cover, which is nice IMO. A good alternative if you ask me.
Bottom line, would I recommend this case? Well if you are looking for a simple case for under 20 bux, yes. The advantage of multi angle viewing and taking the case apart, makes this worth getting for a backup case.
I guess having a Treegloo as my first case may have spoiled me LOL.
Any questions? Lay 'em on me.
wow, fantastic review.
i just recieved it today, great.
A good alternative I also think.
Just received mine today via USPS.
Likes
Compact
Not a whole bunch more added bulk
Inexpensive
Customer service was a pleasure to work with
Closes with a elastic strap. very journal-esque.
Multiple viewing angles not only in Landscape, but Portrait as well. Very few cases offer this.
Dislikes
Snap/Button built into the rear of the cover treats you to a very un-even form factor.
Didn't like the extra hump made visible by the button
Not very supple. Feels very hard, and edgy.
Sleep/Wake feature did not work consistently. It only worked maybe 2 out of 7 tries.
Decent pick overall, for the money, it provides a great set of viewing angle options.

Won't recommend. Its pretty inferior quality. I ripped mine open just to see what was on the inside. Its literally cheap leather wrapped around a cardboard that's as thin as a cereal box. Very flimsy. And the magnet isn't even located in the correct spot (for sleep/wake)

Cheap finger grip alternative for Incipio Dual Pro users

If you don't want to spend $10-20 for a Sling Grip or Flygrip, I came up with this idea thanks to the way the two shells of the Dual Pro fit together. It works well and the outer shell is still able to seat fully. Initially I had the strap go from the button opening to the rectangular opening for the Incipio logo, but 1) if you're right handed that makes the strap angle off to the left side of the phone and so you still have to reach all the way around the phone and don't free up your thumb very much and 2) having the strap go that far to the side made it so the shell didn't want to seat completely on that side.
Just get some thin elastic like this from a craft store or wherever. Initially I was not convinced that it would stay held in place but the two layers of the case actually sandwich it in there very well. It certainly isn't going to come loose on its own and send the phone tumbling out of your hand and it would take a fair amount of effort to even pull it out yourself on purpose without first pulling the outer shell loose. Don't leave too much excess elastic to wrap around to the under side and don't let the two ends inside overlap or that will be enough to prevent the shell from sitting all the way down. I thought I would have to tape the ends to the underside of the shell but am fully confident that it is pressed in there too tightly to ever come out.
Not sure if I'll leave it this way but better to try it out for pennies on the dollar instead of ordering one of those things that stick to your case with 3M adhesive. You can see the slightest grap in the second picture but around the front of the phone and everywhere else the case is still all the way down.
Just a thought. Might look corny but I'm less concerned with how it looks and more about not dropping this phone.

The back is too slippery for my liking. So I sanded it, painted it, dabbed it with paper towel to give it texture, then put another coat of paint on it. Two months later, it still looks pretty good.

Oh no worry, I got what I was after. A very gritty, non-slipping phone. Love it. Everybody in the office wants one now.
Next time buy a can of Stone Paint. It leaves a "stone-like" finish/texture on whatever you're painting. Will provide the grip you're looking for. Then shoot it with some Matte/flat paint in whatever color you want.

Thanks. In fact, my co-worker was with me at Lowes and the 2 paint cans were next to each other. We really thought about doing what you said. I'll do just that when I want to change color. Also, a friend of mine has an auto body shop, I'm thinking about having him spray a light coat of that Rhino coating for truck beds.
