[Q] Is it possible to flash cm7 (or other 2.3 roms) using clockwork recovery? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Is it possible to flash and custom 2.3 rom using clockwork recovery.
The only reason why i like clockwork recovery is because i can flash it without having to download drivers or connect to my computer i can just use rom manager its quick and easy.
If there is a way to easily flash openrecovery using an app like rom manager then can you tell me of that as well
Thanks in Advance

[Q] Can't flash Sense Roms on Clockwork 3.0.0.5

It says that i need to update a script or something and something about android 1.5. I'm currently on the cm 7 nightly #21. I've tried various sense roms like fresh rom 2.4, espresso hero, etc. If i go to rom manager, it says the clockworkmod recovery is 2.5.0.7 even though it says 3.0.0.5 if i go to recovery. Don't really know what to do so if you know what to do, please reply.

Those ROMs must be using amend scripts and the latest recovery uses edify. There are a few things you could do:
1. Flash an older recovery - CWM 2x or RA 1.x and then flash the ROM
2. Update the scripts to edify and then flash the ROM

I'm getting errors trying to flash every version besides 2.5.1. How do i kill 3.0.0.5 and replace it? Its weird since on rom manager, it says I'm on 2.5.0.7 but when i actually go to recovery, its says its 3.0.0.5.
I don't have any problems flashing sense . Id try uninstalling and installing again from market not through TB.

In Rom Manager scroll down to the bottom and select flash alternate recovery then scroll to the top and select flash Clockwork Mod recovery. Should be good to go after that

Use method 2 from the ROMRepo. The only difference is is that if you have the latest ROM Manager, the folder that has the newest recovery image will be mirror.kanged.net. That's how I'm able to flash the different images. Edit the recoveries in that folder.
It wont allow me to post the link so just grab it from the OP of the aospCMod ROM.

I don't like flashing Sense roms from CW and my phone doesn't either. Usually what I'll do is since I'm on CW 3.0.1.9 I just make a backup of what I want to keep on my PC, wipe everything including the /recovery option and flash RA's recovery. For ME, it seems to work better these days. Many months ago when my Hero was still fresh I could flash everything. At least it overclocks to 807 without an issue.
Oh btw, if you run a google for "RA recovery heroc" you'll find it. Info on flashing a recovery is everywhere within XDA, after a while you just remember these things

[Q] Easiest ROM to get on Captivate?

So guys, I need to know what the easiest ROM to put on my Captivate is. I'm rooted on the stock Froyo and I'm coming from the Aria where it was really easy. But, a couple days ago I bricked my Captivate and now have new one. And coming form the Aria I never had to worry about download mode (which I still don't quite understand) and bootloaders and Odin3 (which doesn't register my phone when my phone is in download mode, however, it registers it when out of download mode). So I need a good ROM that all I have to do is boot into CWM and install from SD card because thats all I understand as I have been doing that on my Aria. Please help me find the perfect ROM. Thanks so much. Love you guys here at XDA!
If you already have CWM, all you have to do is boot into recovery and choose install zip from SD card. This will work with any FroYo ROM.
If you don't have CWM you need to mod your recovery before you do anything.
You should be able to mod your 3e recovery from your computer, check the stickies for 3e recovery Modding, its really easy, and caries no risk of bricking.
Then, using modded 3e recovery you can flash CWM with an update.zip then flash a ROM.
Or, rename ANY froyo ROM "update.zip" and flash it directly from your modded 3e recovery. I recommend FireFly or Cognition personally.

Yes, every Froyo ROM'S can be flashed with ClockWork Mod Recovery, you can download ROM MANAGER from market and you just touch "Flash clockwork mod" and then you have it, put the .zip files in your internal SD, and flash them using CWM.......

That is one way to obtain the CWM install file. But you still need to mod the 3e recovery before you can install the CWM recovery. Otherwise when you try to install it you will get the signature verification failure.

how do I mod 3e recovery? Whenever I use cwm to reinstall packages, it says full signature verification failure. Or something close.

If you can get in to download mode, then you can use Odin or Hemidall. Most roms will root you automatically.
Not really. Not many roms are odin/heimdall. You need to root and install cwm to be able to install a custom rom

no you dont.
if you are on 3e recovery, then you just need to flash a kernel via ODIN that has CWM built in
CWM has nothing to do with root. on galaxy S devices it just creates an update.zip file
Rooting your stock ROM is actually not required to install a custom ROM, depending on which ROM you are installing. For some, all you would need to do is place the Clockworkmod update zip on you internal sd, along with the rom you want to install, then boot into CWM using 3-button combo, reinstall packages twice, install zip from sd and that should be it.
However, there are some details that you may encounter such as:
If you are on stock 2.2 you have to get around 3e recovery which wont allow you into CWM recovery without a hack. Or you can flash back to stock 2.1 to avoid this problem entirely (using ODIN3 1 click, if you know how)
This simple install is really for custom Froyo 2.2 ROMS, which looks like what you should be doing anyway if you have to ask this question.
Just READ as much as you can before you do anything.
If you simply dont like the idea of having root privileges you can remove root after installing a custom rom. I have done this for my friends in the past so they dont go do anything stupid on accident. There is a 1-click root/unroot app floating around the forums for the galaxy S that has worked for me on all 2.1/2.2 roms but never attempted with gingerbread as I use root and haven't flashed a friends phone in a while.

Can't get Clockwork Recovery flashed on my T959

Ok, I have ROM Manager premium installed, rooted, etc. I'm running 2.2 version UVKB5 on my T Mobile Samsung Vibrant.
I've selected the option to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery for the "Samsung Vibrant" and it won't boot to CWR. If I select reintall packages, it fails every time.
Help!
did you install both the free and premium version of rom manager?

Make sure the "update.zip" file is on your Int SD card... power off your phone.
While holding down the Vol up+down, press and hold all 3 buttons till the "Samsung/Vibrant splash screen pops up.
You should boot into stock recovery, use vol up and down to move up and down and choose "reinstall update" with power... it should reboot and bring you right back to where you were... repeat choose "reinstall update" with power... now you should boot into CWM recoery.
I think the problem is that you have the new recovery (3e I think) that requires signed update.zip files. I'd recommend using Odin3 to flash another kernel which will come with CWM. If you don't want to do that, there is a guide somewhere on xda to allow 3e recovery to flash unsigned update.zip files.

Exactly clockwork will not install with 3e recovery. Either flash a new kernel or do the 3e mod recovery. Odin will take 1 min to complete its process of flashing a kernel, you should definitely do this. Or just go back to stock and start your flashing journey from there.

Yup, I installed ROM Manager, then bought the premium key. I've got all functionality available to me.
Only problem is that when it flashes the recovery, nothing happens. If I reboot to recovery, it says the update.zip has an invalid signature. It seems nothing works. Am I supposed to flash back to droid 2.1 to get this thing working? It seems like it should be easier than this....

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions on kernels to use and a link for more info on what specifically a kernel is/does? Last thing I want to do is brick this puppy

Ok, did a little google-fu and found some links. I am using 3e, so ODIN it is! Thanks for the nudge int he right direction - wish me luck!
you can download this and used it to flash back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 .and root and then try rom manger again this work for me all the time.

If your running CyanogenMod, there no way around Odin'ing to get back to stock. CyanogenMod (CM7) changes the partitioning to MTD from Stock RFS/Ext4. Only way to get that back is to Odin back to stock.

ROM Manager / Clockwork Mod question

I'm trying to install clockwork mod on the wifes captivate. Unlike mine, she doesn't want a custom rom, actually she doesn't want me messing with it at all lol! Anyway it's rooted and I ran the 3e recovery fix script for Froyo as her's is 2.2.
So I install ROM Manager to install cwm, select Captivate and it says not supported on your device, manually install a recovery first and run again. Ok so where does one get a cwm file to manually install? I looked on the clockwork site and it has rom & recovery files listed but unknown if that's it and if it's even compatible with 2.2? Anyone have a clue on this? I've search multiple threads and haven't found one with this particular issue.
Search for "update.zip"
You need a clockwork enabled kernel. Then RomManager will be able to install CW.

To OP don't waste your time with Rom Manager. Flash a kernel with cwm baked in it (any i897 2.2 kernel should work) or as mrhaley30705 said update.zip.

what he said. flash any custom kernel, it has cwm built in. or do the update.zip method and make sure NEVER delete the file!!!!!!
but go with a custom kernel the have TONES of other cool options added. find one that is odin flashable and odin flash it...
here...
Odin3v1.85.zip
Onix kernel v2.0.5 made for android 2.2 search the forum for its thread to find all its options
boot phone into download mode (search)
plug in to computer
open odin
load the kernel into the PDA box.
press start
