Modaco FR15 or CM7 - LG Optimus 2x

Hi guys,
Currently running MCR FR15 but was thinking of giving CM7 a try...
Was wondering which people thought was the better rom at the moment in terms of stability / everything working / best battery life?
Cheers in advance.

I would stick with FR15 for now. It is very reliable. CM7 is way too buggy at the moment. Tried it for 1 day and had a couple of reboot.

i have tried both, CM7 is really not ready yet.
Cm7:
Flash video curruption, Sound stuttering, SOUND distortion , USB Mount to PC bug ,
Most important,
CM7 11. has a bug not all people has been experiencing yet, which the EXTernal USB card is not detecting under Recovery mode. THis **** end up having me NVflash my system, and lost everysingle thing on the device.
Note: if you read the forum , and i am not the only one that has this issue.
i will stay with FR15 for sure.
But to me i rather use STOCK LG ROM, issue free. if you can live with a bit slower UI and installation , other than that i think Custom rom isn't really that much better than LG stock rom with all the issue we are experiencing right now

I tried both, too.
MoDaCo feels more solid with less bug but the battery time kills me. Even with all apps suspended it still drains 10%+ overnight.
CM7 is quite buggy, yes. But I managed to get it running quite a-ok. The most important things work well (phone, gps, usb-storage, youtube, gmail etc...). There are a lots of issues with usb-storage doesnt work for some people and the video driver is still full of bugs (broken flash video, on-off animation don't work yet, screen turns on twice at wake ). Still, the best feature of this CM7 gotta be the battery time which is really really really important for me. Installed CM7 nightly 11 2 night ago and the battery drain has been virtually zero overnight. I will have to monitor it a few more days thought. Just wiped the battery stats yesterday so it might have not been correctly showed yet.

CM7 is completely separate to the recovery, and has no bearing on it. Whatever caused the problem was not CM7.

Totally agree with u.

I would stick with stock until CM7 is ready. Paul will lose interest in the O2X like he does with every device and development will stop. CM7 has a much larger development community and when the final builds are released it will be the perfect Android device.

But to be fair, Paul doesn't stop development on a device until his ROM is as good as he thinks he can get it (which, as I found on my Hero & Blade is pretty damn good - not installed FR15 on my O2X, as still thinking about taking it back).

Tested allmost all cm7 nightlies till v11. Its a dawn good rom, but not reliable at the moment because of the freezes and reboots. I will definitely install cm7 final but till then i continue using fr15 FEAR edition (stable and smoothness ****in rocks )

Hi guys,
Bringing this one back from the dead - we're a month on from the original post... is there any change?
Is MCR (FR17) still the best custom rom?
Of has CM or one of the FR18 roms from here surpassed it?

CM7 has come along way, annoying freezes are a thing of the past.

I'd recommend a modaco based rom. I'm running fear edition and it's nice and fast. Cm7 still has some bugs.
I'd recommend making a nandroid and testing a few out for yourself. Backup and restore is a fairly simple process

I'm running CM7 .42 build at the moment, and I must say I'm pretty impressed. Overall feel is better than with Fr16 (haven't used 17+, since that's when I went on to ecperiment with CM7 nightlies), app installation is faster, Gingerbread (should I say more? Well, yes: it brings UI changes I prefer to Froyo, like the widget selection screen, faster UI overall).
I had issues with Slick2x and Spoelstra's GB ROMs rendering my Wifi unstable and unable to connect after a while, but I have flashed CM7 off the official source and it is bloody stable, fast and I have yet to experience that WiFi bug again. (I have had one reboot, but I am pretty sure it was a sucky app (errrr, game) that caused it. Hard to blame CM7 for that.)
I'm currently not going back to Paul's ROMs for a while. I'll stay a subscriber though: he has magic fingers and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do when LG finally gets us GB....

I'm using the latest CM7 Nightly, it works perfect, but the only issue is that i'm not able to get the internal sd-card mounted.
Anybody got a solution for this?

Look in /mnt/emmc

Thanks, but...
For example the camera won't see it. I think camera app doesn't know the mountpoint. Same at gallery.
Currently, I don't have an external sd-card...
I'll have a try by editing the vold.fstab, perhaps that's it
Edit: just renaming emmc with sdcard and vice versa doesn't solve the problem.
Edit2: It works!

Tested fr17 fearless today, it's nice and quick but i just miss something.. don't know what. Back to cm7

+1 for Modaco or fear Rom CM7 just isn't there yet for an everyday rom, It's close. I still get sound missing or stuttering in MOST music players that only goes away after a reboot but come back randomly. A fair few games just refuse to run under CM7 that run fine under any other non 2.3 rom. So for me any 2.2 based rom is at least usable as 2.3 isn't quit there yet. If you however never use your phone for music/photo or games then CM7 may just be ok for you.

Kernel
Sorry, but you and 'ever fail to install rom with some kernel?? Let me explain:
Device: Lg optimus dual root
Rom can not install anything they "Flesch" kernel Modak r10.
have no problem when I install the nightly cyanogen, all the others I do not like me on whether the cell remains blocked startup that says LG.
Someone knows how to help? Thanks.

Not 100% sure what you're trying to say...I recommend a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition then dalvik cache in clockwork recovery. Then install your new ROM. If that doesnt work try nvflash back to stock.

[Q] Best rom for optimus 2x

Hello guys
I got an optimus 2x, and was planning to root it, or whatever you call it From day one, I was really dissapointed with the LG stuff, it got better with launcherPro, which made my homescreen much much faster and smoother. I think this phone has enormous potensial, but bad software. Therefore, since I am new to this forum, I am looking for the "best" root or rom thing for it. Maybe there is many different versions, but I like things clean, simple, fast and smooth. thats what she said.
Anyway, I've seen a friends rootet xperia, and he said he got some new UI with folders and stuff. I dont mind this, only it is good, and maybe it will be customisable still?
Problems Ive had with the phone: Random shuttdown, ugly apps like facebook for LG and antivirus etc. Buggy lockscreen. Battery goes to 0% when it randomly shuts down.
Is it wise to get 2.3 on the optimus 2x? I would love some inputs from you guys also, what you like the best and some general experience. Will I be able to update my phone when im rooted, like from the settings options from the phone? dno if this is important or not.
Anyway, links would be appriciated to official threads or direct links to your recomended roots/roms. Thanks
I have no experience with this, so a HOWTO guide or a youtube vid would be nice. Ive only done jailbreaking on 3.1.2 on 3gs
Cm7 is still in a nightly on the o2x but it has alot of bugs, i think. Mdc fr17 is very stable and fast, it's 2.2.2 though

If you want a clean, simple, fast and smooth ROM like you said ide go for the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version -
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...om-rom-for-the-lg-optimus-2x-vanilla-edition/
This is also extremely stable as its based on the stock ROM but with all bloatware removed, also read some of the pinned topics on the links below, this will show you all you need to do.
http://android.modaco.com/category/506/lg-optimus-2x-2x-modaco-com/
For bleeding edge stuff, hope on the CM7 nightly train, but don't complain if it crashes.
If you want stability, then try the MoDaCo stock based ones.
You don't need much of a tutorial to do it, use SuperOneClick to gain root, grab ROM Manager from the Market and use that to install ClockworkMod Recovery... download the ROM you want, wipe & install (also via CWM if you don't want to fiddle)
Hi
If you don't want to install a custom ROM:
have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037751
-Install latest firmware and baseband for your region (or another region if you prefer)
-root your phone
-Install ROM Manager from Market and install ClockWorkMod Recovery from there
-Install dexopt fix
Now that you have a good base, look in market for an app to uninstall system apps (I have used Root Uninstaller). To completely remove system apps I think you need to remount /system rw, else you can freeze apps for easy restoring if you mess up.
I would also recommend installing launcherpro from market (replace home screen and app drawer) and google stock lockscreen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033776&highlight=aosp+lockscreen
Thanks for the help guys. Im gonna try the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version. I have an exam tmrow and will therefore not try it out until the afternoon. I also have to read some, and learn the difference between root and boot, and some of ur advance words havent found a real guide yet, but have the iso and all those other folders that was in the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version.
great fun
I think the phone drain battery too fast in 2.2 (official rom)
I loose 40% of battery within 6 hours without using anything (when I'm sleeping during a night)
That's why I change to use 2.3 and I found that the battery problem is gone
I loose 1% in 12 hours.
I'm also new to the fun world of android. I've learned alot by simply reading threads and using google to explain som of the terms Read the roll up thread very thorougly, explains alot.
I'm now using CM nightly #31 and it's been very stable for me.
Just do some backups and start toying around with your phone, it's fun!
..but I like things clean, simple, fast and smooth = cyanogenmod!
So far, from temasek is the best.. he got a custom kernel too.

My Opinion,
Android 2.3 from teamsek. It is just brilliant.

i advice to newcomers to flash first a stable CyanogenMod build.
then when they want to go further flash a Custom Kernel (for CM7 i think the best one is Etana)
after that take what ever you want! Try, try and try.
but pay attantion to not become a flashacolic :silly:
try nove HD

[Q] Samuaz's ICS ROM vs texasice's ICS ROM?

Which ROM is better?
I don't know for sure, but it seems that samuaz's is texasice's build plus the CM goodies. So I would say samuaz's has more features.

Ok. Hey, aren't you that Cyanogenmod moderator?
That'd be me
why ask--try them both--
Am using texasice's ROM since like day 1 and loving it. Its my daily driver
I tried thrice to use texacise ROM [Alpha 8, ev-1, and latest p3]. There are huge improvements and p3 is quite close to be used as daily rom. However, still there are issues with network dropping off , random soft reboots and many Apps FCing.
Nexy has good future with both these ROMs progressing so fast [it is less than 50 days since google released the code].
The samuaz ROM, looking at the feedback, I'll give it a try for couple of days next week.
Yes I do notice those soft reboots with p3. But no FCs and no network drops. However the progress for each build looks quite promising.
Would be nice if Samuaz too release a mini skirt version for stock Hboot
Yet another reason not to stay on stock Hboot: Camera is already working (not completely) on N1.
Also msm kernel 3.0 is ready. Just a few days before we get ICS beta

Where? From a kernel dev, of course.
When? When it's ready. Further questions will not aid in getting it faster.
I heard the kernel dev over at the Desire forums is going to upload his msm-3.0 sources to guthub and will make it work on the HD2 and Nexus One, of course after it works on the Desire itself.
Just wait patiently and it will be here sooner or later.

That's what I figured, but it seemed to be implied, by indiangeek, that one was already available.
I just upgraded from CM 7 to Texas ICS p4. The market didn't work (my apps didn't auto-sync and re-download - couldn't get it working after an hour of trying), the animations were a little jerky, camera didn't work, USB mass storage didn't work, CM mods weren't there. In it's current form, it could use a little polishing.
I tried Samuaz's MeDroid ICS 4.1 and it works way better. No market issues. Animations are much more fluid, camera works (panorama and video are broken). Gallery doesn't pull in picasa web albums (that'll be fixed today in 4.2). Also, you get CM features, which aren't present in TICS. I got a few force closes, but I think that was due to not rebooting after restoring from mybackup root, as I haven't had the FCs in a while. Oh, and USB mass storage is working, so I can restore apps and data from my backups. Sometimes the USB icon shows up or the app starts up (like at startup) when nothing is plugged in. Minor issue, though.
Upgrade method (some of these flash files aren't signed, so I needed to disable signature verification before they'd flash):
Upgrade bootloader (HBOOT) to 0.35.0017
Flash latest radio (5.12.00.08) - CHECK THE MD5 BEFORE FLASHING
Install Blackrose using the automatic method (It will not work without the HBOOT above)
Install custom blackrose from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366897 - this increases the space available for ICS to install
Use recovery to do a full wipe three times (people had issues only wiping once)
Mount SD card via recovery and deleted/backed up everything.
Flash Evervolv-Perdo-2.1.0p4-passion.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366897
(Realize a bunch of things weren't working)
Use recovery to do a full wipe three times (people had issues only wiping once)
Flash MeDroid 4.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21093710&postcount=188
To do yet:
Upgrade as soon as 4.2 comes out to fix gallery - I'll probably just use adb to replace the current gallery app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21097768&postcount=191
Replace MeDroid's boot animation with this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429308
Am I the only one to be a little knee-shaking when it comes to flashing radios? I mean, ****ing up the system or boot seems easily restorable, but flashing a corrupted or unsigned radio may turn your device into a fully usable paperweight?
That's kinda the reason I've stayed with the 5.08.00.04 or what it's called. I mean, it works for me and hasn't bugged in any way, so why upgrade it?
I agree it's scary, but I saw so many people using the same file without issues, I was alright with it. Radios are the only file I check md5 on for this reason.
I think you're ok if fastbooting the img and like loki980 said, checking md5
I've done it a few times with no issues

In all my time in the CyanogenMod forum (which is probably waaay too much time), it seems that the 5.08 is the best supported radio with the N1. I have never seen issues fixed from going from the 5.08 to the 5.12, but I have seen quite a few fixed doing the reverse. A lot of people get great results with 5.12, but it seems that more have better luck with 5.08.
Plus, I am sure that Google did a lot of testing before they sent out the Gingerbread update, and I'd bet there is a reason they included the 5.08 instead of the 5.12.

Just got my x2 =D

Decided to sell my acer liquid metal and get one of these but it's not playing ball.
Bought it used with it already rooted with CWM installed running CM7 KANG
I wanted to put CM9 KANG onto it but it took ages, for some reason the phone will not work as a mass storage device?
I ended up putting the SD card directly into a usb adaptor and putting a ROM onto it that way.
Now that CM9 KANG is on it still won't work properly as a mass storage device and on top of that there's no google market or anything
And were's the face unlock?
Build quality is amazing though!!
The USB Mass storage is still a bug of CM9!

Hi, congratulations on your new phone.
For market and face unlock etc, you'll need the latest gapps, which you can find via google, xda search or here
With regards to usb mass storage; I haven't tried it myself, but heard that you can use MTP. My vague recollections from my nook color:
Go to settings
Go to application/memory (forgot, don't have Touchpad on me)
Top right corner there is the onscreen menu button, click on it.
Go to computer connections
Click on MTP or something like that.

Ironkernel, look at my signature.
Just flashed a new kernal and so far so good.
Graphics performance is all over the place, Neocore and quadrant have shown massive gains but nenamark 1&2 along with Taiji has all dropped, the Taiji score on this 2x is 1/3 of what I was getting on my old phone!

Please bear in mind that the ICS builds are all Alpha builds, so really only suitable for developers to analyse. They are not fully working ROM's and cannot be expected to fully work just yet. When it goes to Beta, it will still have issues but less of them, and less severe.

Might move over to 2.3 then, Not really a fan of CM... Well not a fan off all the crapware they add....
Best ROMS for me are the ones that stay true to stock....
Can anyone recommend a 2.3 rom that stays tru to stock that will support overclocking?

[Q] Are CM7 roms fullly functional?

Tonight I'm getting a new LG O2X, and I've been reading about roms and stuff. I decided to install the CM7 Kang RC1 with Etana OC kernel, but first I'd like to know if I'm going to miss features like the front camera in skype/tango, or if the app "LG Touch LED Notifications" will work, which looks very useful because of the lack of a notification led.
If that kind of features don't work, I'll probably stick to a stock based rom. Thanks in advance!
No. To have perfect combo between stock and CM7 I use Hybrid ROM.
But 1080p playback is not working for me. Anyone knows why? On stock rom (2.2.2) i worked i think.
this one?
You mean this one?
I kinda have the same question, adding something else: how's the support for the Tegra video card? If we go out of the stock rom do we lose any performance over graphics and stuff?
Unless you run a modded kernel that allows OC; there isn't much of a difference between stock and CM when it comes to performance gains (+- since stock has a lot of crap that tend to slow down the device, but can be removed of course).

I installed that rom, build 100 and everything is working perfectly I installed ETaNa kernel just because I read people recommending it but I'm still not sure about what the kernel does besides allowing overclock (which I haven't done because I haven't felt it's necessary). Any other advantages?
Just want to confirm, Temasek knows his ****! : )
I was at first rather careful with ROM's and installed CM7 stable (1 year old ROM) on my LG 2x, just to see how it will work. After few months of good use (everything working just great) I suddenly couldn't enable data & 3G networks on the device. Then battery started to show weird issues, like phone will turn on itself and show that it's charging.
10 minutes I go I gave it leap of faith and installed latest Temasek's CM7 RC2-102, MIND BLOWN. Not only it works OOB without ANY issues, fixing the battery and data problem, installation just UPDATED my current ROM to Temasek's build, which means I didn't lose any settings, apps or ANYTHING.
Just install Temasek's builds, you won't regret it.
BTW, how to donate to Temasek, I couldn't find DONATE button?
Cheers!

Btw I don't ask for donations so u wont see any donation link.

everything is fully functional on cm7 since the fm radio was fixed (and that was a LONNNNGGG time ago)
only things that can be glitchy are the completely NEW features them devs are makin up
and no you dont loose any kind of graphics performance or w.e when going to cm.
yes, front camera also works...

[Q] Is it worth upgrading to ICS yet?

At the moment, my nexus is running Cyanogenmod, although I am thinking about changing to a ICS rom, but I was thinking that they would have a lot of problems and not able for daily use, but after looking around, that has completely changed, now, here are some questions
Does ICS work faster than other type of roms like CM for example?
Using blackrose: Am I still safe to use this program even though I have a locked bootloader?

ICS for N1 is still in final stages of development(issues wid video recording & playback). it might not be as perfect as GB roms. but it will be cool.
u can give a try. and if not satisfied revert back to ur current rom

I was running BCM ICS CM9 for a while but found it to be a bit slow in comparison to GB roms. I ended up switching back to CM 7.2 once it reached a stable release since it has superior performance in my experience. The ICS development is coming along fantastically though and I expect to be switch back in the future; probably after a stable release is dropped. If performace is your highest concern I would recommend waiting, if you just want some ICS goodness then by all means you should switch.
In fairness, I'm using the original SD card that came with my N1. Considering all my apps were being run from the SD card, including system apps, it might not be a fair comparison. Perhaps upgrading the SD card would yield better results... I don't know.
I am running texasice ICS rom and even though there is some slight lag you can still run a fully functional (in my daily use) ICS rom. I guess it's a matter for you to try it and decide if you like it or not. If you backup your current rom switching from one to another is a matter of minutes.
