HC port to streak7?????? - Dell Streak 7

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-LiAjGTPNw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I dunno of anyone saw this yesterday or not by DJ_Steve. It seems our awesome and only streak Dev has gotten hardware acceleration in HC to work on the notion ink tab!
You guys are wondering how this is relevant to us streak7 users right?
Well in the details it says the rom he made for the notion ink tab as been ported to the streak7!!!!
I don't see a link for it from the site link on the video upload, but if anyone knows about it or happens to have the rom, I'm sure we would all love to test it out!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

we all know already he post to his twitter if he doesnt post here and this is not development so you would need to have a mod move to general the development is mainly used for releases

Yes. Need to port the s7 kernel too 2.6.36. And possible have the touch driver modified. Ask around only thing holding it back atm
sent from a tower

from what i read no hardware acceleration issues any more

I stand corrected sir. I miss read

Sorry for the error in where I posted this. I don't use twitter anymore so this was new to me until yesterday since I follow his YouTube channel.
Ill get this moved into the general forum. Since the development area is used for rom releases anyway? where is it?
Hellzya hate to act like a forum noob but could u help me out in the link for HC port? I know you are Dj_Steve's tester for his releases so Id like to try it out.

Yup.

Honeycomb's going to be awesome, but let's not kid ourselves into believing this thing is a slouch with FroYo and DJ_Steve's ROM. If you have another, HC tablet, though, I could see your point.

This is my only tablet. For the price and specs, it couldn't be beaten regardless of what rom it's using. And it's definitely going to be something else when a ported version of hc comes out. I'm sure that's something we can all agree on (at least after it becomes stable lol)

I'm sure HC is going to be great, but I have no problems with Froyo; it does everything I need from a tablet. The battery remains as the biggest issue for me.

I honestly have not used this tablet enough to actually complain about it's battery life but that will come soon since I plan on using this a lot more this summer so I guess add me to the general consensus.

[Q] Any plans for a 2.3 or 3.2 ROM?

StreakDroid7 and HoneyStreak are both great roms, but not perfect.
StreakDroid is a 2.2.2 ROM, and in my opinion, just an improvement on the stock ROM. HoneyStreak is based on 3.1, which was designed for 10 inch tablets, not 7.
I was wondering if any of the developers here have plans to relase a 2.3, 2.4, or 3.2 ROM, and I would rather run something like that rather than another 2.2 or a 3.1 that was never intended for a 7 inch device.
With the first 3.2 tablet coming soon, I expect a 3.2 ROM to be made by Dell or some XDA members to be coming within the next few months, but it would be nice to know if there are already plans for it.
3.2 is planned once i have a syatem dump of a 3.2 device
Sent from my Atrix using Tapatalk
Hopefully you can get that soon. Loving the latest version of Streakdroid HD7 tho. 3.2 should be even better!
DJ_Steve, if you can get 3.2 working, I would worship you. HoneyStreak is great, but the display errors are annoying. Getting a 7 inch version of honeycomb would be incredible.
EDIT: I shouldn't really say errors, as the rom runs fine, more like display "issues."
Yea i agree. So if anyone can get a dump off the new huawei tab or has contacts possibly able to do so get on to them

Since streak 7 heave the same screen resolution as streak 5, is possible to port 3.2 to streak 5?
Please, correct me if im wrong.
Since the Streak 5 has the same resolution, and the same LCD density (160) if there is a port, I doubt the screen would cause any problems.

Should I get an Asus transformer?

What do you guys think? Been looking at it and just tablets in general. Seems as though all the honeycomb tablets have pretty much the same hardware. What are your opinions on it and any owners that know something I should know please tell me
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Go for it specs wise plus its price I think it's good. But if money isn't a problem then go for the 10.1 galaxy tab.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't know anything about the transformer, but I do like Asus laptops.
Transformer is a very solid unit. Good screen, nice and quick, well-built.
If you get one, definitely consider the keyboard dock also. It really makes extended use (especially browsing XDA for hours on end) much more pleasant.
There are a couple of units available in the marketplace at good prices, Donharden has a great 16GB unit. Check them out!
Good luck!
Go for it, best at it's hardward range Tegra 2, compare to Thrive and Iconia..Gtab.
It's thinner and well built. I had played with it and others side by side at office depot. The Tf101 hands down.
Thanks for the input guys, I want to go down to best buy and compare still though, I hate how demo units are always all messed up and slowed down from all the things people do to them. It really makes it hard to judge.

we had a kindle. Lovely device... until the nexus came out.
You can't even utilize things like Google voice, maps with gps etc.
But I guess that still counts. I would never put the kindle in the same category as these devices though. We had one until 2 days ago. It sold within 10 minutes, which was $135

guys, quick little update. I shut off the live wallpaper on the xoom, and it's considerably faster now. Still not 'just like nexus 7' but much much smoother. I'm gonna make another video now and you guys will see the improvement in smoothness and performance. FWIW, I also went from 110 to 111 nightly.

I was going to say... you kind of crippled the Xoom having the wallpaper up. While the n7 was made for jellybean I think its more a product of having such newer hardware in the n7 compared to the Xoom. You have faster memory, quad core, and a more powerful GPU on the n7. Even though PPI settings are set higher for the n7, effectively you have less going on, less screen real estate etc for the same or similar resolution. I'd like to see the build.prop edited on the Xoom the same as the n7 if it could be displayed without crashing with everything possible configured the same. I think you are still going to see the fact that the n7 is a generation newer processor wise will still beat out the Xoom.
On the other hand, it still looks pretty nice on the Xoom. Jb breathes new life into dual core devices!

indeed...
video is rendering still, when done, here is the link
http://youtu.be/4yVH53OD9UM
As he correctly points out in the video, he's using a custom hacked together ROM on the Xoom vs. a stable ROM on the Nexus 7. What he doesn't mention is that the Xoom ROM is a port. It's not compiled from source...it can't be. Google hasn't dropped the Xoom source code for JB into AOSP yet.
Let's compare this again when the Xoom actually has source code available and someone compiles a raw AOSP ROM for it, thus we can compare apples to apples.

you think Google builds aosp source code for every device? your smokin!
hash code built jellybean from SOURCE and created the device tree, added necessary drives, and compiled. far from a port, I would only assume the same was done for the Xoom. a port? cmon!
Your accent is ridiculous. Good comparison though.

OK you're right, I stand corrected. You can probably build for the wingray and stringray out of what's there now, but there are still no binaries for JB for either the Xoom or Nexus S. I'd imagine things will still run better once that stuff is available, particularly updated graphics drivers.

Coming from somebody who's screen magically cracked without me dropping it, I would still say the N7 is one of the best tablets out there, hands down. Initial product release is always a risky time for consumers, and I knew that walking into it. You can say that it should be perfect from the get-go and yeah I would agree, but replace the N7 with anything else, whether it be the iPad, a TV, a Chevy pickup truck, it doesn't matter. Lemons exist, especially during the initial run. Couple that with the fact that there are thousands of people who never complained about their N7 and the greater picture becomes a little clearer. Forums by nature tend to attract enthusiasts of that product as well as negativity since users with issues tend to seek out a place to vent (forums being a nice target), whereas the majority of people wouldn't bother to seek out a place to speak highly of the product - they'd rather utilize that time USING that product. I think my opinion is further swayed to the positives because ASUS *did* fix mine under warranty. Granted, I called them a few times so they knew my level of frustration before they even had a chance to work on it, but the end result was a 100% functional fixed unit. I'm a fan.
Love my Nexus 7. Only complaint was that I was cheap and purchased the 8GB version. The 16GB would have been a better match.
Just got mine yesterday and Im loving it, its a c80, the only problem I found is the crackling sound that it makes when I unlock it or select something, only problem so far, hope not to get one of the other major issues...
I unlocked and rooted mine the day I bought it (a week ago).
All went well via RomManager Premium, until I tried flashing a Rom.
Which then took into boot loop for a day or so.
Eventually got it back to life via Nexus Toolkit (Wugs).
Now left it in Stock mode using NOVA Launcher Prime and all is good!
Best 7" Tab ever, and I used to own a Sammy 10.1 Tab.
Awesome value for money.
Thumbs up to Android/Google! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Same here. I'm so tired of seeing all this negativity through the Nexus 7 threads. My device is literally perfect. I've had it for about a month the now and love it more each day. No issues whatsoever, and receiving my Portenzo Bookcase in the mail the other day was the icing on the cake!!! I love this thing. Very affordable, and for the money, I got much, MUCH more than I bargained for. I'd gladly pay 250$ or even a bit more for a product of this caliber.

Another dev Nexus 7 -- this time a 32gb one

http://imgur.com/a/motAI
Coworkers bought his 32gb unit from Office Deport which was delivered today. It has ICS 4.0.3 and a bunch of test apps loaded. Also the screen DPI made it think it was a normal 10" tablet. He was really confused by the strange interface of it and lack of setup wizard and everything.
I would have just loaded the new firmware onto it but this unit has the screen lift issue pretty badly on the right side -- so he's going to return it. Can't believe they haven't sorted that issue out already.....

They probably just "accidentally" install it on very few tablets, in hopes a developer gets a hold of it and does some cool stuff
Reminds me of how a person got a CR-48 test Chromebook with a BIOS on it (CR-48's had EFI on them), and that person uploaded the BIOS somewhere, and then anyone with a CR-48 could flash that BIOS, and then install any OS they wanted

Couple of things. First, Win8 RT relies pretty heavily on the UEFI BIOS API set. While not absolutely required, it would make writing the shim a pain. Secondly, trust me when I say that Google did not "accidentally" release the CR-48 UEFI BIOS into the wild. Things happen on the assembly line.
