[Q] req abstergo boot animation help black screen - Android Themes

Edit: Thanks guys I got it working: I used your advice and I also realized that the desc.txt file was renamed wrong so it looked like desc.txt.txt instead of just one .txt.
Hey, I'm new to this whole boot animation thing.
But here's the deal:
I used photoshop cs5 to make my .png files.
I have done a little research on how to edit the desc.txt file, and
I can't seem to figure out whats wrong.
I use root explorer and paste the bootanimation.zip into /system/media
and I've even tried it in /data/local and all i get when I boot up is a black screen. I can boot into my phone perfectly and I've tried bootanimations so I know it works, I think I have just messed up on my own bootanimation.
would anyone care to check it out or give me some tips? anything would be appreciated.
p.s. I have been using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623960 and i also have an Evo 4g.
Thanks again!

You cannot use any compression when zipping. You can only store the files.

Remove the extra blank lines inbetween the text, leaving one blank line under the last line of text. When you zip, don't compress the images, compression level should be set to Store.

i´d be really interested in an abstergo bootanimation...i´m huge assassin´s creed fan

Glad you got it working. Also make sure you haven't got any of those pesky thumbs.sb files in there. They cause a black flash at the end of each loop.

Problems with modifed Startup-GIF´s

Hello everybody,
this is my first post in this forum and my english is very bad, because i am an bavarian noob I take my german text to the google-translator an this is the result:
I have tried to change my startup screens what has failed miserably. I have the original files with the trail version of Ulead Gif Animator processed and pushed to the Hero. The results you can see here. I have the orig. and modifed attached files. Can anyone of you tell what went wrong?
Thx,
the bavarian opallabtb
I noticed whilst browsing the Hero file system (in root somewhere) that there are a number of config files for boot and on my Orange Hero, an Orange startup animation.
No idea how you do it (rooted & text editor maybe), but you will probably have to edit these
thank you joemax for your quick answer.
There is only one xml file in the folder /system/media. It calls boot_animation.xml
I didnt touch this file. The names of the modifed files are the same as the original ones. Is it possible that the Ulead gif animator change anything in the gif file (transparent background, etc)?
greets
Sorry, I have no idea then. My depth of knowledge at this point is very poor
Can the Hero actually play the gig animation you copied across ?
I use ASTRO to browse my Hero, it plays and views images, video and gif files. Try to see if its actually playable 1st.
Sorry but thats all I can think could be causing it.
I bet you crapped yourself when you first saw that messed up boot screen
I've had a look at the gif files you're using and they differ from the originals. The ones you made, each frame has different background properties. If you look at each frame in the original, they're all 320*480 with a background colour index of 199; they all have a black (transparent) background of 320*480.
But the modified gifs have frames which don't have the same sized and colour index backgrounds, and this is the only thing I can see that would cause the problem. When you view them in windows picture viewer, they show up fine; I think it's something to do with the transparency and the fact that the first frame IS the right size and colour but the rest are not.
In fact now that I look at your video again I'm certain this is the case. I know how to fix this, what program did you use to modify the frames?
Edit: Okay maybe I should read posts better, you used Ulead Gif Animator. If you can send me the individual images of each frame I could put this together for you in a way I'm sure will work
Hi,
thank you for your support!

Can you take the Frames/Pics or whatever you want from the "modifed.zip" package?
Thank you!

[BOOTSCREEN REQUEST] - Stargate "Puddle" Effect

What I would like to see for a bootscreen on the Hero is an animation of a Stargate locking in the seventh chevron then the splash coming out to encompass the entire screen. As it recedes back to the gate it leaves the word "ANDROID" in the event horizon overlaying the puddle effect then have four little green android characters with P-90s run through the gate before the animation ends.
Any takers on creating this? I don't know enough about creating video and effects to even get started on something like this.
Dude u read my mind...that would be awesome.. massive stargate fan here..lol
Intresting..... i will follow this thread
I'd be willing to toss out $20 (maybe more if it's a really high quality job) if there are any experienced graphics designers out there who could make this happen.
if anyone knows how to do it it is tristan202...
Does this help????
Woops,... 2 mins,... Cant use .rar,.... try again,....
OK,... here goes again.
I was previously advised (by Tristan202 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645244) that the Hero 1st plays one gif just once, then loops another... So.. Each ZIP file contains 2 gifs,... one of the "puddle" in action,... one of just the outro,...
All are 320x180 resolution,...
Latency setting on BEST was set to 50ms...
Latency setting on MED was set to 75ms...
Latency setting on LOW was set to 100ms...
Now need to find an simple method to apply them. I'll leave it to you guys to do the research for me aswel. Get cracking and let me know,....
Peace
Shizzle,..... I've just re-read the 1st post,.... And realised what I've supplied isn't quite what you wanted!!!!!
But it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
Its just the "puddle" taken as it is, no custom characters and stuff.
Sorry,...
Found this,... But still dont know where the hell to begin!!!!!

You are correct, it certainly does beat a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! So you found these animations or did you make them yourself? The geek in my is wondering which episode(s) they were taken from

S01 Ep04 !!! Haha.
Yeah I made them, using "Video-AVI to GIF Converter". Didn't take long at all.
Unfortunately I can't open ZIP files at work, so I can't see exactly what you've posted, but if it's what I'm thinking that's still sweet.
Once I get home (and figure out how to switch out boot screens) I'll probably be using this , thanks ddot!

I haven't given it a try myself yet though.
I had a go at this and I'll show you how far I got (see attached update.zip for flashing through recovery rom).
I'm new to making bootscreens, but I studied a few I downloaded and learned how to sign an update zip. (Can't seem to generate my own pem/pk8 key files, when trying to apply the zip signed with my key it keeps saying that the files are unsigned, but the testkey files included with the signapk zip I grabbed work fine to sign). Also I didn't use zipalign, haven't worked out how yet, or is that only done on APK files?
Anyway, I noticed when I used GIF files that use pixel cropping (leaving out unchanged pixels in subsequent frames) the image gets all distorted, like a TV broadcast signal problem. So the resulting GIF files are larger than the originals, as each frame is a full frame.
However there is still a problem with some frames in the first GIF, still some distortions, although nowhere near as bad as on my first try with cropped frames... Also I don't really like the way the 2nd GIF loops as you can clearly see when it jumps from last frame, to first frame...

I am planning on trying to teach myself and make some more tonight using Photoshop instead of the automated software I used last time,.... But what Id like to know is,... As it is,... Does it play landscape, stretched across the whole screen?.... If it does then the issue is just the resolution (as I sized it to play in in the middle of the screen in portrait mode) and in theory should be easy enough to resolve (once I know how to use Photoshop that is).... Let me know please.
Thanks.
No, it shows portrait, vertically centered (so 150px high black bars above and below the animation). You wouldn't hold your phone sideways while booting, so it seemed awkward to rotate the files 90degrees.
Basically the only problem is the "glitching" in the first GIF. I'll have another go at that one later. I think it's to do with palette compression.
Also, I used your 'BEST' zip, so I'll see about quality/size difference with the other ones.

When you say "glitching",... do you mean it doesn't play smooth yeah,... a bit jerky?
If that is what you mean then yeah, the other ones might play smoother. This might be because there are so many frames in the BEST one. The lower quality ones have less frames so can be processed faster.
Even if I just open them on my lappy in internet explorer, the best quality one doesn't play as nice as the lower one.
So the update.zip that you create,... Does that just put the files in the right place and tell the phone what files to open up when booting? Or do you have to add the black bars, tell it to play landscape or portrait, make it play only once/not loop etc,....
That's something I'd like to be able to do too.

No, I mean it glitches like a bad tv signal. I don't really know how to describe it. You can however safely flash the update.zip I posted to see what I mean. You can always flash back a stock bootscreen (with or without sound); I've attached them to this post (grabbed these off of xda myself a while ago).

Just unzip my zip file and peruse the files. That will tell you a great deal. You can delete the following three files, as they are created by the signing process:
META-INF\CERT.RSA
META-INF\CERT.SF
META-INF\MANIFEST.MF
This file contains the command to copy the files to the SYSTEM: volume on your device:
META-INF\com\google\android\update-script
And this file tells Android how and which files to display:
system\media\bootscreen\boot_animation.xml
There's 3 bootconfigs in that file, but the top and bottom one are commented out (could've deleted them, but oh well). So the middle bootconfig is the one to play around with. The ScreenX and ScreenY values are offsets from top left corner of screen in portrait mode. And useAudio tells android to play or not play the mp3 file (none included in my zip).
EDIT: The black "bars" are there, because as specified in the xml, it uses a GIF file that's 320x480, fully black, and the other 2 gifs are smaller, displayed on top of that black background.
If you wanted to have this animation play in landscape mode, you just need to physically rotate the GIF files 90 degrees right (or left) and resize the animation to make it fit the screen. If you make it 480px wide, then it would be 270px high, so that'd leave 320-270=50px of blackness. Vertically centering the animation would mean a ScreenX value of 25 and a ScreenY value of 0. Or leave both at zero to have the animation stay at the top of the screen in landscape mode. That way you have one black bar, at the bottom, 50px high. Make sense I hope?
One more thing: the update-script and xml file need to be saved in UNIX ASCII format. Use a text editor like UltraEdit (shareware) or Notepad++ (opensource freeware) if you're on Windows.

making bootscreen for 2.1 official, help needed

everytime i make a boot animation i get all static and it doesnt work right, like a tv that cant tune in,although some frames it does, iv removed all transparency from the gif with photoshop and with gimp but still no success, ill upload the signed zip for the whole thing but i cant work out why it wont work!!!
thanks for any help people can give =]
I will head off to school for about 2hours. But if you haven't solved it before I'm back, I'll help you.
Sent from Swiftwork on HTC Hero
iv been trying to figure it out for the last 2 days lol thanks alot, much appreciated
Hope this helps!
To start with I believe that all new 2.1 no longer use the boot animation gifs. They should be in a zip containing a folder called part0 and a desc.txt.
The folder with part0 should contain each frame used in the gif saved as png files with the name any_name_here_00000.png. You need a 5 digit number that increases as the images changes. You can import the gifs to photoshop and then File>export>render video, choose png sequence and define a name.
The desc.txt should be how the animation should be played.
Code:
320 480 25
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
320 480 is image size in pixels
25 is fps
p is new line of code I believe
1 is play once, 0 is infinity
0 is delay after
part0 is your folder.
The desc file is hard to get to the right format. So I will upload one and you can edit the values. But don't change where spaces are. It might not work then.
Very important to remember that each system has its own place to put the file. /system/media/ /data/local/ /system/customize/resource.
yeh but the rom im making it for is with gifs fo rht eboot screen the same as the on i uploaded but different gifs, so its the gifs i made not working =[

That happened to me too in some of my bootscreens:/ If you go to export in Photoshop it has a function to export it to a mobile device... That should help but it probably doesen't fix it and then the only way to make it work is to turn down the speed...
what speed should i be using?

The depends on how much of the picture is changing and a lot of other stuff but for me i had to set it for 250ms I think but i may have found another solution It's the "update-script". I'll make one for you and upload it to ensure it deletes the correct files etc.

[Q] resizing boot animations

I've foudn a fantastic LCARS boot animation that id like to use on my Note but it is a little two small. Does anyone know how to resize it please.
I have tried to edit the desc file to 1280 x 800 and also 800 x 1280 but it wont work. It is either distorted or all I get is a black screen while the boot sound is played....im using a seperate boot ogg file.
Here is the link to the boot animation file

Thanks in advance and a large cookie to whoever does it :silly:
theres an app called Absolute System that can do it, Unfortunately it is a paid app

EDIT: found this, I think its what you need

thanks il give it a try.
Would i just copy the bootanimation.zip to my phone then run it through this programme?
yes, once the program has created it, move it to your phone and replace the original one with the one you made
What about ones someone else has made but just need resizing?
I should imagine it would be the same as creating your own, Just edit the resolution and let the program generate it ??
Ive never actually used the program i just remember seeing it one time, and when you asked about it i remembered

I have just used the other app ( boot animation creator ) and bongo worked perfectley. top advice thank you.
if the animation comes in typical zip file, you should be able to unpack it and just resize all the pics,
or am I missing something? (sorry, now unable to check the file by myself)

[REQ] get my own bootanimation?

Hi,
for stock rom, the bootanimation.zip have 2 mp4 inside, so i formated a little video to 1440*2560 and put it with the same name to the file so noobish as i am. This didn´t work, only a black screen is shown instead of the animation. on what should I look for, that the files are the correct one, so that i can use my own bootanimation?
it would be great, if someone can help me.

You might try making sure permissions are set the same as the original files. r-w-r-r (644) I believe.

The MP4's don't need to be so large, the originals are not formatted at that resolution, I would match the originals,
You can also use the original style zip.
and change the size of each pic to 1440 x 2560 if you want it to take up the whole screen,
if you use it with a smaller size, there will be a black border, but it will still work.
Here is my last try:
THIS has worked good for me in the past.
