[Q] Slow internet connection with wifi? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says for some reason when I am connected to my home router via wifi I am getting horribly slow connection speeds. Some games I've gotten require that you download a 250 or so meg file.however its utterly impossible as it downloads at like 40kb/s. I use to be able and sometimes once in a while I can get it to connect at 10mb/s and for a little bit it'll download the game at that speed too, but then revert to god awful speeds again, where speed test will go to something like 100kb/s down.
Any idea what is happening our how to fix it so I can always have the fastest speeds available?

Have you ruled out the router as the issue? The routers I have owned in the past have a "best used before" date so to speak... they seem to burn out and get awfully slow after heavy prolonged use.
If the router is good, information on your ROM might be helpful.

Try resetting your router to the default settings.

Oh sorry, I'm using the leaked froyo 2.2 update. As for my router I'm running ddwrt on a linksys wrt54g2.. I don't think its the router as I've got another computer connected wirelessly that seems to run fine..

[Q] speed up barnacle/ 3g connection

Hi I was wondering if there is an app or a program for my phone or computer or maybe some settings that will make barnacle faster or speed up my 3g connection. I am using my moto dx to provide wifi to my laptop then networked the connection to a wireless router to provide internet to my wii and stream netflix.....needless to say it buffers alot and if I try to play games it boots me out of the game and I have to start over. So if there is something that can at least stabilize my connection so it is dancing arourn from 0kb/s to 1100 that would be bad ass!!!!!!! Kind of a newb here so lamance terms are good. lol using barnacle and wifi tether
A g1 isn't exactly the faster running of phones, id make sure everything I can turn off is off. You can try another app too. And if all else fails the g2 can be perma root and run a wifi tether

Um.....my phone is a Motorola droid x rooted running barnacle and wifi tetherjust looking to make the net go faster the phone is plenty fast and capable of 3-4 megabytes per second but the speed is no where near stable I just want to keep the speed stable
oohhh i assumed you had a g1 since your in the g1 forum lol my bad. ive used wireless tether and have had no issues on all my androids so far. pandora plays great, no breaks
heres the link http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Yeah I goofed up and put it in the g1 forum. Anyway I have used wifi tether also and pandora works fine for me too.......I was just currious if any one knew of an app to make things go faster for streaming movies

[Q] Get the best out of wi-fi?

Hi, I was wondering if there are ways you can increase your wi-fi speed, like installing drivers or changing options or something? I was also wondering what is the max speed the wi-fi can get up to on the captivate? Ive gone as far as almost 18 Mbps and I have about a 54 Mbps on my home modem.
Sorry no, if you are using a customised ROM, they usually have the so-called "Wi-Fi fixes" on them (not even sure what they fix).
As far as I know though Captivates should be using the full 802.11g capacitiy anyway... What are you using to test these speeds anyway?
The speed test app from the market, only thing i could find to test the speed, thanks for answering!
Ah right, then the speed test you have done is for the Internet Speed. So that's the actual speed you're getting for the internet (even on your home computer, if you're doing this test at the home Wi-Fi), not the actual Wi-Fi speed.
Wait...I tested speedtest on my home computer too and I got about 45 mbps(highest i got) and then I got a 18 Mbps on my phone using wifi(both "download" speeds btw) there are one or two things using wifi in my home but I have another question, am i supposed to be getting around the same speed I have on my phone as I have on my home computer?
Do you have the home computer using wireless as well?
No, I have fios,my home internet modem is also a router
Then yes, it will depend entirely on how many devices you have using the wireless at one point. If you have a 802.11g wireless router, then the max total output will be 54Mbps. This will obviously be shared among your wireless computers/devices.
holy **** so your saying that my captivates wifi can get up to almost as much as my pc modem can?
Theoretically, yes. If there are no other devices on it, and no interferences in-between.
Actually, I just found out that our Cappys have Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n; DLNA.
This means that if your wireless router supports the 802.11n framework, it should use that instead (which is greater than 54Mbps).
Of course, I'm not sure if the ROM and/or modem will support that... Stock ROMs will most definitely support it, and probably any ROMs built using the Stock ROM.

Wifi Tethering / Mobile AP - how many connections?

Just wondering if anyone knows how many devices can be connected to the Galaxy S via wireless Mobile AP.
My home 3g router blew up and the replacement pocket wifi is pretty crap.
Currently I can get no more than 2 connections but read somewhere that as many as 5 could be. Maybe different software versions had different settings.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: SORTED. Had an older version of Docs rom 2.2.1 JPY running. Installed a newer JVQ 2.3.4 and was able to connect 5 devices. More than enough

I think I've gotten 3-4, but you need to realise the phone simply isn't designed to work as a dedicated router. The antenna is much smaller (so you'd need to be close by), and the ability to support multiple connections is very limited. Having more than a couple connections is going to cause all the connections to start lagging.

I agree its not meant to be used as a dedicated router, but it actually has many advantages.
I actually have 2 and selling 1 isn't going to get me much $ so I want to keep both. I also have no problems getting wifi reception from it as its located centrally in the house, plus the house is not that large. Speed is also excellent.
With the Virgin broadband home router I had for years, it was good but speed was not great (max 3mbps), it wasn't portable and generally lost connection a couple of times a day.
The replacement Virgin pocket wifi, had better speed but lost connection sometimes in under a minute. I had to reconnect it 7 times while trying to pay a bill over the internet even though I've set it to never disconnect. Once it stayed on for over a week but went downhill from there. I received another for free from my provider and same ****.
With the spare galaxy s, its faster than both - it got up to 6mbps and reception is poor at my house. Not once has it dropped network reception as its a phone, its always on power, and I have 3 spare batteries so if I want to take it away with me I can get days of usage without charge.
To me, nothing can beat that. Plus it also doubles as everything else (camera, navigator, tv-out, phone!!!!,etc).
It's a mobile hotspot with tons of advantages. Just got to figure out how to get a couple more connections.

[Q] Slow wifi connection, how's yours?

Hi
I am using radio XXLB2 and i have a wireless N 300Mbps router, TL-WR1043N, but whatever i try the sgn only connects at 65Mbps and even tho i have a 120Mbps internet connection i get a maximum of close to 30Mbps downstream bandwidth whenever i test with the speedtest.net app...
It kinda looks like something is limiting the speed to that connection speed and to that downstream speed...
Is there any thing that i could change to try and get more speed? different radio maybe? i think i had same results on the other radios tho
What are the speed connections and real downstream bandwidth that u guys have?
If somebody has same router, do u have same limitations as i'm experiencing?
thanks
I have the exact same performance but with another router. I have 100Mbit, but only getting 30 with speedtest.

its known if you search the forums that the note only connects at 65
mine connects at 65 and i get a full 30 from my isp, people are hung up on certain things when it is perfectly normal
If it connects at 65 then why are we only getting 30 from or ISPs when we have much faster lines and other devices get more?

Slow Wifi Speeds

Just did a speed test on my pc, mac and note 4. On pc and mac, my speed is always over 200Mbps. On the note 4 it goes to like 30Mbps. All devices are on the 5ghz connection. I have disabled mobile data and reset the device with no luck. Any other suggestions?
What modem is on your N4??

Is your device stock????
Custom rom???
Im on comcast blast service 5ghz router. and my up is like 120 down is like 25...
Yes its stock. Im on timewarner. Dont think its a router issue because other devices in the same location around the apartment are getting the speed im paying for.

Run ookla and post a pic if you can..
Under wifi advanced turn off allways scanning...
I have a different issue. MY wifi shows great speeds when using ookla or any other speed test. But it just stays stuck whenever i try to download something. 9 out of 10 times i have to use mobile data which works real fast. If i am adamant about using only WiFi, then a 5 MB download may take anywhere from 1-2 minutes. I tested the phone with stock software as well as custom ROM. Currently on Firekat 10. My router is a new AC1750.. I have 3 other units which use wifi... An ipad ..A nexus 10 and a Nexus 5. ..Those units dont have a problem. Another thing i would say is that i tried using CM12 rom on my phone for 2-3 days and i noticed that my wifi problems were like 95% gone..Coincidence?
I had to revert to Firekat as i use the stylus too much. Any advice to solve this issue is welcome.. I tried almost everything mentioned in this forum.. including forgetting and then reconnecting...Connecting via WPS... None of them could solve this issue
I have the exact same issue!!!
