[Q] After Gingerbread install, how to use SIM for USA AT&T? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just installed Gingerbread on my new Galaxy Tab (AT&T). As per the instructions, in Odin I used the JK3 modem file. However my T-mobile prepaid sim card isn't working. I'm assuming I need to re-connect (in download mode or upload mode?), start Odin, and choose the JPZ modem file. Is this correct?
Will this wipe the Overcome ROM, or will that still remain?
Thanks.

If you download only the modem file, with odin without repartition, then it will work, choose the one you need correctly. It will not destroy overcome,

So I use the same PIT and PDA from the first time (from GB Stock Safe), but substitute the Phone file for the JPZ modem? and I also unclick repartition? Is that correct?

No, you only load up the modem.bin file to flash. Nothing else.
When it is done loading and the SGT resets, then go check your APN settings for your carrier. i.e. google APN settings for carrier

Okay, I tried that. I found info on the APN settings here:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f4/t-mobile-us-apn-settings-please-help-41160/
However, when I put my T-mobile SIM card in and start the phone, I get the message:
"enter network lock control key"

Okay, so I followed the tutorial here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323
I am now stuck with adb and getting my system to reboot. Here is a screenshot of the occurrence in under the cmd prompt:

It looks like the script didn't run properly for you and I wouldn't let it delete the /efs/nv_data.bin file if I was you.
I hope you made a manual backup of the /efs folder before you started this.
Looking at is more closely I see you werent running in root mode because you still have the $ prompt instead of the # prompt
BTW, i did unlock on the phone using the Hexeditor app fromt he market and also using Root Explorer to make backup copy of the /efs folder.
If you still need help you would be better off posting in the original unlock thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323

I think I need 10 posts before I can post in that thread.

So I guess...

That's 10.

It's dumb crap like this that is keeping people away from xda - too many thoughtless posts to sift through.

[Q] [DEV] Can someone DUMP P500 Baltic system.img

Hi, Can someone please dump/backup the system.img from baltic P500 or have a offical update for baltics. Thanks
Just do a backup and upload it. Thanks
No one here from Baltic States?
Hey, just show me how to do it, and I will give you.
hi, please use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8917870&postcount=12
or if you have Thunderg installed, then just do a backup and upload these files.
thanks
Hmm, could you be more specific? I just bought this Optimus One like two days ago, and I'm feeling very newb (it's my first Android).
What do I have to do, to give you that system.img and what is that system.img file?
Hi, the system.img a backup from Android /system partition is a main part of the android. But this guide we just dump that /system partition, it's the easiest way.
I'll try to help you do that:
1. Is your phone rooted?
If you haven't done that, then use Z4Root(super easy app ) and you can get it from here: http://www.upload.ee/files/997919/z4root.1.3.0.apk.html
Download that file and copy to sd card and install.
Open that installed app and root your phone
If you need help with that, then there is little how to here: http://www.worldofnubcraft.com/285/rooting-a-lg-optimus-one-android-phone
2. OK, rooting done, now we need terminal app: You'll find that from Market. Just search "Android Terminal Emulator" it's from Jack Palevich and install that.
3. Now open the Terminal Emulator and enter these commands without "" and hit enter after command, these 3 command should be it:
"su" it asks for a root privileges and you allow that
"cd /system"
"tar zcvf /sdcard/system-dump.tar.gz *" and wait when it finishes. it takes some time. It's done when you see #, it takes couple of minutes max.
4. That file is now on your phone SD card and upload that system-dump.tar.gz file to somewhere and let me know
Are you sure about that?
I'm sorry, but it's not working. It gives me an error "tar not found". Any ideas?

}
By the way, what you can do with that file? What it contains? I'm just a newb, and I want to know everything about Android.
EDIT:
Is it possible to do that dump with Thunderg?
Go to market and install app called "BusyBox" and download / install BusyBox with this tool. After that it will work.
yes, i forgot busybox install that and give a new try
Ok guys, I got it. Before putting it live, I would like to know one thing. Does it contains any personal data, if so, what exactly? Sorry, for being so paranoid.
hi, it won't contain any of your personal data. Personal data is stored mostly on /Data partition and we didn't dump that. Thanks
Ok, so here you have it.
Optimus_One_Baltic_ROM_dump.zip - 89.2 Mb
And it's only contains branded ROM with no changes? That's great. What program do I need to restore my ROM to the branded one, if I'm going later to change it?
i think you should look to Thunderg... it's best way to make a full backup and restore after

[Q] [i9000]Help - Getting custom firmware off...

It seems I've botched the job of putting Blockbuster on to my i9000.
It frequently reboots and is unstable.
I've read that I should start from JVQ, so I thought I'd be wise to get back to that.
I grabbed it from samsung firmware and it contains some files I don't know what to do with.
Odin seems to be looking for 5 files.
Pit, Bootloader, PDA, Phone and CSC
The archive I have has the Pit, and CSC, but nothing else that matches. It also has Code and Modem tarballs, but I don't know where they're supposed to go.
Edit : I should say that I have it in download mode (recovery doesn't work) and I think I just need to get hold of all the files to stick on it to fix it.
All you need is PDA, PHONE, CSC and PIT if required. Do not touch the rest.
You may have downloaded a package that's not meant for Odin (CWM package) or the files are missing.
Please google around for flashing guides. It is not safe to flash without a step by step guide if you are not experienced.
*You may provide screenshots of the files in your folder here and I will feed you back with a screenshot of how they should be inserted into the Odin. OR what is required if there is missing files or you downloaded the wrong package.
Ah. It seems that I had downloaded the wrong thing. I was finding a file of the same size (or very close to it) with the same name so I assumed I already had that. When I did grab it, then it turned out it was something different and contained the 3 files easily labelled as what I was looking for.
Odin seems to be working now - or at least I think it is!
Thanks!
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
*CHECK REPARTITION IF THERE IS A PIT FILE
Make sure none of the other unwanted are not checked.
*If there is PIT File, check REPARTITION, AUTO REBOOT, F.RESET TIME
*Without PIT, Check only AUTO REBOOT, F.RESET TIME
Ah. I think I may have done it wrongly then.
I grabbed a .pit file from elsewhere and did this...

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It hasn't moved from there for a while.
Edit : Since nothing is happening I think I should disconnect and then do it without the .pit and without the partition button ticked? I haven't stopped it yet, just in case.
Do it without Repartition and PIT. Note that PIT is only required if recently you flashed with a PIT file other than "512.pit" or the PIT files that are not suitable with your current ROM. If not stated, flash without PIT.
You can follow the Guide here and it is better that you download your files from Samfirmware (the link is in the post). The folder you download from Samfirmware would contain the correct PIT file.

Phone is now in setup mode
Thanks....
Now I'm in two minds if I should put a custom firmware back on or not... I guess I should, since I now think I can probably fix it if it goes wrong again.
No problem . Good luck flashing.

[Q] Market Problem w/ Custom ROMs

When I flash back to stock, of course the new updated market works. At one point I kept the stock and flashed a new kernal after updating to the current 2.2 and still the new market worked. As soon as I flash a custom ROM such as Serendipity, Fasty, Cognition, or another the market all of a sudden does not work. When I mean does not work, I only mean in the instance that it will not download large apps. I have read on flashable zips, adb shell commands, and other methods such as removing the battery but still none of this works. Is there any way to fix this problem without reverting to the old market??
It's cache size related bug, the problem here is that manufacturers put a cache partition on their devices that is smaller than googles maximum allowed app size for the market, 50MB (which was updated this year from 30mb). Reverting back to the old market will fix that issue and what I'd recommend you is to freeze MarketUpdater in TiBu (titanium backup app) so that it won't allow it to update itself back to the new market.
In case u want to use the new market, u'll have to apply the fix made by corgar - iXNyNe ,but it requires a kernel with init.d script support. If u wanna try it out here's the script, download and extract the file and then copy it in system/etc/init.d folder with a root explorer and modify the permissions of the script to 7-5-5. To do that go to system/etc/init.d folder ,mount r/w (if ur using root explorer) and long press on S95change_cache file, select permissions and make it look like in the pic below and then reboot ur phone in recovery and wipe cache ,dalvik cache and restart ur phone.

If all went well (u should have a cache.img file under dbdata of 54+ mb) u now can download all the apps from the new market, if it didn't then try with 7-7-7 permissions (like in the pic above only everything checked)
There are other methods , here's a post from Kyuta Syuko that sums it all up. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17850944&postcount=9050
Have u tried stopping the market and clearing all data in the all apps menu?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
He can try that too, but that's useful when ALL downloads aren't starting/apps aren't updating. But the 30mb+ download issue ,insufficient space error, is cache related.
I can confirm (and others did as well) that the script works.
Thanks for the help but I did search like I posted. None of the options worked. But I did figure out a way around it. Just disable the VooDoo Lagfix and system lagfix. Download perfectly afterwards. Defintely beats reverting to older markets and the methods described. Although this worked for me, hopefully someone will find luck with the methods you all posted. But yeah I tried everything besides reverting to the market and enabling a script change. That was going to be my last option.
Good to hear u managed to get it work, btw could u pls check if Third Blade downloads without an error. Thx

To downgrade to KitKat, download the following file to your PC and extract with 7zip or WinRar: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952608110
Boot your phone into download mode. This is done by powering the phone off, then holding down vol- and power at the same time. Connect the phone to PC with USB. You have to flash all four files with Odin as shown in the following image:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Please be aware that this process will erase any settings, data, and media saved to your phone's internal storage and restore it to its original factory condition, now on KitKat. This process also takes a long time (at least 5 or 10 minutes) and will cause your phone to reboot on its own, and to boot into stock recovery at least once. It is important you leave your phone alone while it is doing so, and definitely do not disconnect it until it boots into the KitKat setup wizard screen.
To apply the security patch, you will now have to flash two files in stock recovery (vol+ and power). First download and extract this file: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891196 it should be named 2400258.cfg. You need to rename it update.zip (yes, this involves changing the file type) and save update.zip to your external SD card (it will not work if it's on internal storage).
Finally, you need to download this file to your external storage and flash in stock recovery: https://www.androidfilehost.com/user/?w=settings-dev-files&flid=37222 Please note this file has already been renamed update.zip. They must both be named update.zip for them to work; since this can be potentially confusing I'd advise you to either save them to different folders, or delete the first one after you're done with it.
Follow these steps and you'll be back on KitKat, with that all important security patch. Good luck :good:

Recovering data from M22

Hi,
I have a M22 which has been hanging at the "Phone is starting" screen. I have tried almost everything I can think of the get my contact list and photo's of the phone.
After installing a game called Tap away the phone rebooted. After which is was stuck in the Phone is starting message. I'm able to start up the phone. Then the lock is displayed, but when I unlock the phone only the background of my home screen is displayed with a progress bar saying "Phone is starting".
Untill now I tried the following things:
- uninstalled the game (I'm able to access the the settings menu, but not all options work)
- Boot into recovery mode and wipe cache partition.
- Tried adb to pull data off the phone.
- Tried Driodkit. The app is installed after which nothing happens.
- Tried Smart Switch, but it does not see the phone.
- tried to install an sd card, but was unable to format and use it. Menu option not responding.
Since the phone is still under warrenty I'm a little bit hesitant the flash a new rom. It will be the first time I will be flashing an andriod phone. I've downloaded the new files. But with the new version of odin 3.14 I have an extra option called userdata that is not mentioned in any of the tutorials/how to's. I want to keep the data on my phone, so it is suggested I use the home_csc file instead of the csc file. Do I load this on the CSC line or on the USERDATA line. Do I need the USERDATA line at all. I dont want to brick the phone.
Are there any other possibilities to get the data of my phone? So I can just perform a factory reset. I would really appreciate it.
Try opening in safe mode if you haven't already.
In the future use a namebrand V30 rated SD card as a data drive and then regularly and redundantly back it up!
Tried Safe mode. But still the same message.
Do you reckon using odin to flash the phone will help keeping my data alive?
I've downloaded this firmware from sammobile, since it is the only one currently providing a Andriod 13 firmware.

BL, AP, CP are self explanatory.
CSC and Userdata however are not.
As I said before, I've read HOME_CSC is for keeping your data in tact. CSC will overwrite.
Looking at the tips in odin, it is referring to HOME_CSC for the CSC line. This would mean USERDATA stays empty. Is my assumption correct?

Do you reckon I safely flash this firmware?
Help is very much appreciated!
M.
The problem is likely on the user data partition not the firmware. Firmware rarely becomes corrupted unless there's a hardware failure. The exception to this is a Single Event Upset which are very rare and only switch 1 bit of the flash memory.
You can try it but if you lose the encryption keys you are boned. I have no idea of what will happen. If you really need that data take it to a data recovery specialist... now.
Thanks for all the help. I've decided to take the lost and have done a factory reset.
