[APP] Retab - Reader for tablets - Xoom Themes and Apps

I released my first app designed for honeycomb. It is a google reader client. I have just started on this one and is my first Android / Java project. Lots of new features are pending to come, together with complete google reader integration. It is mature enough for everyday use and supports all necessary basic features.
Would like to let you all know about it and get some feedback on the APP.
You can download Retab from the android market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.deep.tidbit&feature=search_result
Thanks !
Deepak
PS : It is free
PS : Please rate & review on Android market when you get time.. and www.retabapp.com should be up and running soon with more themes & updates.

Heres the link:

I will try it out later tonight,
Thanks

Thank you very much !

thanks .. downloading and trying

Wow pretty nice reader and quick too!... anyway to share articles? Also the built in browser can't open the feed. Says page cannot be displayed... but a real good start I must say... one question, can we add our own feeds not to Google reader?

>> anyway to share articles?
Yes coming soon... this is the next feature that I am working on. Any suggestions and pointers on this ? Im planning to support the usual email, twitter, facebook + google starring & sharing.
>> Also the built in browser can't open the feed. Says page cannot be displayed...
Hmm sorry.. Guess I should make the external browser the default instead of the experimental in built one.
can you please post the feed address that you were trying out. Does every page give a problem ?
>> but a real good start I must say... one question, can we add our own feeds not to Google reader?
Thanks.. I do plan to support it once the codebase is stable.

also will a widget be added in the future?

Yes a widget is definitely in my long list of things to do

Nice start!
I've been used to Feedly for the longest time, and I hope I'm not the only person who misses the left/right swipe to go to the next article

Hmm, I can't get it to work. Just force closes on mine

oh ! Retab requires a google account to be configured on your xoom. Support does not exist to key in username & password yet. Do you have one.. ?

Thanks, I really like this app. Do you plan to support folders inside other folders? Right now all items within all subfolders of a given folder display when that folder is opened. I'd prefer if, instead, they were grouped by and shown within their individual subfolders.

Glad you like it.. Sorry I am not clear what you are asking for... When you click home all the top level subscription folders are shown. You can instead click on the top level tabs to choose any 1 particular folder and go to a particular feed if necessary. Also google reader only supports 1 level of grouping currently.

Love the concept and really am looking forward to seeing the full potential of this app.

hey, just found your app.
big plus is greader sync and the 300kb it only needs...keep on rocking!

Awesome app, syncs very quickly with nice UI. My only suggestion would be to add a sync button while browsing a topic.

Thanks for the great comments... If you like it, please review the same on Android market.. !

I like the app and it works well except some of my feeds arent in a specific folder. On other google reader apps for honeycomb these feeds do show up but they do not on yours. Anyway you can get this fixed?

Wow love the UI. Working great so far!
Only thing would be to open in external browser as built in one seems a little glitch.

Official Twitter App in Market

Hi
Can't se this mentioned yet but just to let you know the official Twitter app is in the Market and its awesome especially on CM5.07 Twitter contact sync
Nice >Was< using twidroid, this is much nicer imo. Thanx for the post about it.
Twidroid still better. No browser, no refresh on start up. Animations are for kids.
also is only supported for 2.1 roms.
I really like it. I had been using Touiteur since it came out, but the official app is better overall and much faster at refreshing tweets.

Same here. It's also the first version so it can only get better.
Uh? No retweets with comments possible. It doesn't save the position, you always must scroll down to read the first unread tweet.
Not so very good.
What's it called anyways? As I don't see it in the Market.

I searched for 'twitter' and it came up in the results.
For a first version it is very good but as some have pointed out it's missing features that are very useful, if not almost required. Integrated browser for links, image loading without a browser or via the browser, viewing of profile images and the most important from my perspective - remembering your last position in the list.
It's very fast and the integration with 2.1 is nice, using the same mini-bar option if you push the arrow to the right of someone's tweet. However, until it has the ability to remember your list position and some form of integrated browser I'll be staying with Touiteur Premium.
Does anyone know how to clear old tweets from the timeline? I've been using the app for a few days now, and every tweet I've received during that time is still there, which creates a little sluggishness. It'd be nice to be able to clear the list every once in a while.
Can't seem to find my lists... Yes i can delete and manage them, but i can't see them. What the hell? I think ill just go back to Seesmic... Simple, fast and reliable
Is anyone else having a problem with only a small fraction of your tweets being updated in your timeline? This is what happens for me: lets say I haven't used the app all night, and in the morning when I know I have 100+ new tweets to read, when I hit refresh only ~20 tweets are updated. Then when I scroll down past those 20 latest tweets, there is a huge gap after the 20th tweet. After the 20th tweet, there is a huge jump back to the last time I hit refresh (usually 8+ hours earlier). This only happens on 1.01...it did not happen on 1.00. Anyone else?

[Q] What is still missing on the SGS?

In the days before our official Froyo release there are a couple things i would like to ask around here.
I know everyone wants a fix for the slower behaviour of the phone...
and all of us want a GPS-fix.
But there a few more things i would to see on our phone, and i'll start with posting what i am missing, and i really hope you all could follow my lead here and fill me in.
Things missing:
-music widget for SGS music player.
-More in depth weather app..without the OBVIOUS brand-dropping of
accuweather.
-Support for local popular social-sites in the feeds and updates widget.
(like the dutch Hyves.nl or other local sites)
-An option to look for other languages in the Aldiko eBook reader.
And i know this is a bit stating the obvious; but erhm...i want more widgets from samsung in general...there are just so few in comparison to the Sense-UI!
And some of the google standard widgets should also be there too...they aren't included on the dutch version...just a couple of em...
Well, fill me in, and post your additions to let Samsung know what we all want.
(they must be reading this right?)
Buy launcher pro plus. Way faster then the crappy touchwiz. And it got lots of build in widgets.

They need to fix the way they update SGS...when we update we lose apps, no other phone when updating android does this..... Lol I had a,moto milestone and it never happened....sure back up apps, but I dont like the fact we have to do that cause of a bug.

Scalable dialer
The email app is missing the option to accept or decline meetings. This is unacceptable for business users!
The calendar is missing an option to select which calendar is the primary calendar.

Its missing more hardware buttons! other then that I'm quite happy with the device, I'm a little annoyed at not having music player widget but I've repleaced it with Lithium Music Player which I love.
Also I really don't care for touch whiz as its a piece of cow feces. First thing I do is install LauncherPro as its quite a good and fast replacement but I can't help to think its missing something
The SGS is missing a flash..
Definitly a better mail client:
HTML support for mails
Accept/decline meetings
Needs to be way faster
The calendar is missing an option to select which calendar is the primary calendar.

In the froyo testbuilds i think it remembers your last chosen calendar, so that should do the trick for you.
As for the rest i'm pretty satisfied (apart from a little lag, gps works ok for me)

Droid Reader Tablet Edition

Hey I just released a branched version of Droid Reader specifically for Honeycomb tablets. It's still in the development phase, but I thought I'd go ahead and throw what I have out on the market so people can get to it. Let me know if you have any problems or suggestions.
You will need to relaunch the application after you authenticate the first time (or hit back on the authentication browser window).
I'm hoping to eventually merge this back in with the actual Droid Reader project, but I have to get ahold of the project owners first. If they end up releasing a tablet edition I'll probably just pull this app.

Trying it out right now, so far it looks good, does it have G Reader support or is it like Pulse where you add the RSS feeds to your local storage? I will find out for myself.

Hate to double post, but I have some things to say about it:
When you read an article it doesn't mark it as read
Going back to list of feeds is little misleading, I would assume pressing back would go back, but you have to press that button? Weird
Widget, I know this is in beta, just a suggestion
So far it's surprisingly smooth and stable, had one crash but that's cause I had Tapatalk and Sumarai 2 open in the background. At least I think that's why. Keep up the great work, and I love this so much it got rid of Google Reader( Google didn't even make a Google Reader app for Honeycomb? What the hell?)
Thanks!
Edit:
Embed video crashes the app, just wanted to add that
Sent from my Xoom
Great app, thanks !

When you are on the list of RSS feeds you select one and then it takes you to that feed, I would assume to go back to the list all you would have to do is tap the back button, but that does nothing just flip through the articles you have seen, I thought that the back button would take you back to the RS feed list view.
Edit: would like to see a change log on app store please?

offlline support
Hi, it works good now, but greatest addition will be to support offline cache. And not only RSS cache, but cache external link content. I want read news even when Im not connected and in RSS there are only few sentences, and I must open browser to read all and it is discomfort and with lack of internet connection (eg in train) impossible.
Thanks

[Q] How do i get to my RSS Feeds Manager?{Resolved}

I've asked this question over at android forums with no replies yet.Seems odd no one knows!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
When i subscribe to an RSS Feed it takes me to my feed manager. This is great and all but how do i get into my feed manager after adding feeds?I have looked and cant find out how to get into it.What is it labeled as or is it a widget etc.?I am using go launcher ex if that makes a difference.I have looked under my bookmarks, news, etc and can't get into my feeds.I know i can use Google Reader and other RSS Readers but it really bugs me that i can't get into the stock RSS reader.

There is an app called News installed on my Vivid. It looks like an RSS reader. See if that is what you want.
Update: It can also be used as a widget.
Um.Sorta but not quite.
This does seem to show my rss feeds but it isn't the same as the reader it takes me too when i subscribe to an rss feed.Under the news app when i hit feed manager it don't show any my folders or feeds im getting. When i subscribe to a feed the app it takes me into shows everything, but when i close that there is no way that i have found to get to the same app unless i subscribe to a new feed.I can try to post screenshots if you like.
Thanks for taking me back into the news app.I just found it.You have to click on this little arrow to bring down the drop menu which contains your subscriptions.
Just for the record. The news app/widget is not the same as the news shortcut. They are 2 completely different things.I have been messing with both and they are two different programs for some reason. Not quite figured out why but they are.

change browser for all links

Hi all,
I use Google feed quite a bit for bite size news but I use the Samsung browser (actually a superb browser with the best dark mode I've ever seen, plus no ads)
But when clicking on a link in Google feed it always goes to the Google built in browser, the lite one, I can open up the Sammy one but is there a way to get Sammy to be used all the time from the first click on a link within the Google feed?
Doesn't seem to have any options within the Google app or the Sammy one.
Any help would be great.
Cheers.
Can change it in 'more/settings/general'. Look for open webpages in app.
