[Q] Unable to Nandroid..... - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Restore ?
Hi everyone im a noob at this so be gentle
Right as the subject states i cannot restore my nandroid backups as when i try i get a message (Failed to Flash Boot Image!)
I was running Tweaky's GingerBread rom and did a nandroid backup of that then i flashed simply honey rom (both Ginger roms), and when i went to restore Tweaky that error message came up??
Anyone advise me what i can do so that i can continue flashing with a safety of a Backup should i need it incase something goes wrong.
I did have a Htc Desire before this galaxy and had no problems whatsoever restoring my backups, from froyo to gingerbread or vice versa however this galaxy seems alot more tech hence why i have put this thread up.
So would someone please help so i can resolve this (bugging me) issue
Thanks in advance

I had the same problem...
re-flashed fully 2.2 with odin, works now
But there is surely faster way

Im glad im not alone lol i feel better now hehe
I aint got a clue and really hope i can sort this out

Bumping wont help
Just flash a rom with odin...

Maybe you can try in CWM to see to mount necessery partition like system or data. Then you have a option to change permission system is read only. How about to start from this.
Juwe 4.3.1 on jvh works the best!

[Q] Doubts in Rooting....:(

Hi sorry this may sound dumb
I rooted my Nexus One running 2.2.1 using super one click root...I flashed recovery image using ROM manager..did a nandroid backup..Went on to recovery and flashed CyanogenMod 6.1.1....I found no Google Apps in it...Then i tried coming back to the stock rom by doing a nandroid restore but it fails telling md5 check failed..I already had a backup image of my phone with android 2.2 and was able to restore it....My question is
1)How do i install Google Apps on Cyanogen and get all my contacts back and
2)How do i make a proper backup so that wen i try restoring my stock it does not show the same error......
Now my phone is running android 2.2.1 with stock rom
Kindly help me pls......
Derp download google apps and flash on top of CM6.1? It's not so hard. There's even a download link somewhere in the CM thread's first post.
Can i get the link for it pls..........??
http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/
Next time please use the search function, or just google it. It ain't that hard.
But wat abt the ans to my second question??

Maybe get a better SD card? Your Nandroid shouldn't have been corrupted. Just try doing another one and see if it works. You could just be very unlucky, why haven't you tried making another nandroid and testing? That seems like the only logical next step, see if the problem repeats.

[Q] Little help please...Clockworkmod won't backup system

Hi...I am hoping for an answer here. I have searched everywhere. I don't know if it even matters or why I should really care to do this but I am new to this and it seems I should. I am rooted and running 1.1 update with the stock eclair and have tried to run a Nandroid backup with clockwork, but it stops at "can't mount /system". Can anybody tell me why? or How to make the backup? One answer I saw referred to Gingerbread and EXT4 incompatibility with version 3.0.0.5, but I am in eclair and am running CWM 3.0.1.0.
Also do you really think I need to back up? I have a TiBU for my apps and sys data. I figure if anything goes really wrong I know I can always just redo from stock, just some more wasted time. I guess I am basically asking if there is any real advantage to do a CWM backup anyway at the stage I am at, beside just playing around?
Thanks in advance for any help
From what I understand you get that error until you flash the kernel that came with that recovery. I had the same error until I flashed this zip made by mistar muffin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971197&page=21 its the recovery and kernel in 1.
I always nandroid backup, just in case.
I'm stuck in a bootloop and cant figure out a way to boot directly into CWR 3.0.1.0. I tried a few different combinations thinking it would be like the N button and the power but have had no luck. HELP!!!
Still need help? Please
Thanks fro your attempt to help. I flashed 3.0.1.0 from Muffin, but still get backup error, can't mount/system. I have searched for hours for an answer, but there is nothing around about this. Am i the only one with this problem, except previous reply. It doesn't make any sense. I even restored to stock, updated to 1.1 and rerooted, so I would have the simplest system. Still same result. Can anybody help? Thanks
nevermind
Don't know why, but I asked ROM manager to backup and it worked. SO if anyone else ever has this issue maybe this will help.

[Q] Never Successfully Restored a Nandroid

Sorry if this has been asked before but I have searched and didn't find any answers.
I have never been able to restore a nandroid backup on the Galaxy S. I go through the restore procedure in recovery and everything seems to restore correctly, no errors reported, says restore successful, but when the phone boots up from recovery it hangs on the boot screen.
I've tried with lots of different roms/kernels. I've wiped thoroughly before restoring. I'm even trying to restore from the same version, i.e. JVH or JVP, always the same result. I'm not trying to restore between cm7/samsung roms or froyo/gingerbread or even different versions. An example is, I was on Darky 10.1re. I did a nandroid. I tried a few other roms (F1, GingerReal, Tweaky), tried to nand back to Darky's, appears to restore without problems until the reboot where it hangs on boot screen. Also tried to restore to nadroids of the above roms with the same results.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong, I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious as nobody else seems to be having trouble with backups.
Thanks.
I could imagine it would be hard to point out what the exact problem is, unless someone has experienced this issue before. Which I haven't, sorry. Not on my SGS, nor on my SGS2. But it sounds like a compatibility problem to me. You say you've never been able to restore, have you had the same problem with Darky ROMs prior to 10.x, perhaps 9.5? Have you used Darky's Dark Core kernel along with it?
The same thing is happening to me. Used to nandroid restore on froyo and never had a problem. The last 2 times that I tried to restore (with Ginger 2.3.3 and 2.3.4) I had problems, both times with Criskelo´s rom and Darkcore Kernel. The restore begins normally but suddenly stops and there is no way to revert the semi-brick other than odin. BTW, I never use lagfix.
Used nandroid backup and restore successfully on gingerbread on both speedmod and galaxian kernels
Sent using geek power
I have same problem and i ended using nandorid backup which is very usefull.
I think this started at beginning of Gingerbread kernels using.

Thanks for your suggestions. The first rom I installed after buying my Galaxy S was the current Darky one at the time, v10 rc something. Didn't try the older ones. At first I always used the Dark Core kernel, even with other roms. Still couldn't restore.
I've also tried a mixture of roms/kernels since then with no luck with the nandroid.
Could it be something to do with the recovery? I noticed different roms/kernels install a different recovery. Maybe it's only possible to restore using the same recovery as was used to take the backup? But if this was the case, surely other people would be having the same problem?
Thanks.

Yes I remember reading about that. That's what I put it down to in the beginning, but now it's been fixed and it still doesn't work for me. Not even with other kernels.
Well, it's not the end of the world I suppose. Just makes me more reluctant to try different roms as I'm too lazy to go through the whole odin/flashing/restoring process every time lol.
Thanks for your suggestions guys
With Dark Core kernel 2.7.x and 2.8 i have the same problems when i'm on rfs, backup function is ok but restore doesn't work. With ext4 conversion enabled backup and restore work as they should.
I've found a solution, just in case anyone else is having the same problem this is how I got around it.
I downloaded and installing the latest cwm using Rom Manager, so any backups are taken on 3.0.0.5. When changing roms I had to download and install the same recovery with Rom Manager and restore using the same 3.0.0.5. For some reason it only works when using rom manager. If I try to restore manually in recovery it doesn't work. If I try to restore with any other recovery version it doesn't work. So for me my nandroid backups only restore between the exact same recovery versions.
Sounds fairly obvious now, after thinking about it lol, but this has been giving me a major headache for weeks now.

[Q] How do I reboot after installing ClockworkMod?

I attempted to root my SGS (which had stock Gingerbread Value 2.3.6) using a guide on the Snappyguides blogspot page (the system won't let me, as a newbie, post the URL).
Odin did its thing and then the Samsung Galaxy screen came up (just the white lettering, not the multicoloured animated S) and then... nothing. It just stayed like that for about five seconds, then the white Samsung Galaxy S came up again, then the blank screen ad infinitum.
I can access the download screen and I can access the recovery screen (which does seem to indicate that ClockworkMod v2.5.1.0 has been installed). The trouble is that none of the options seem to do anything.
I have tried searching the forum for similar problems and have read the sticky. The only answers I seem to have been able to find so far suggest flashing a new Rom.
Before I go this far, is flashing a new Rom really necessary in this instance? I have never done this procedure before, so I'm wary of messing things up even further. But obviously if the phone is past the point of no return as far as the stock Rom is concerned, then that'll be what I have to do.
I'd appreciate some advice before doing anything else to my phone though.
I now seem to be able to get the recovery menu options to respond, so maybe all is not lost. Have set it to root and it's currently converting to EXT4 and is about halfway through that.
I'm hoping once that's done, it'll be bootable.
If not, what do I need to do to make the SGS boot again? Is there any way of getting back to stock or can I only flash a stock rom back on?
Nope, still not booting. It just keeps going to the Samsung I9000 white lettering, stays there for five seconds, goes blank for five seconds, then the white lettering goes back and on, off like that forever.
So... anyone willing to help?

Thanks for responding.
Sorry for being a n00b but I can't find anything in there that helps me. All I see is a lot of jargon about various roms, kernels and something called Voodoo.
I had a working phone with Gingerbread 2.3.6 Value. I added Clockworkmod via Odin. Now I can't get the phone to boot beyond the splash screen. It doesn't even get as far as the animated S, all I get is the splash screen going on and off every few seconds.
All I want is to get my phone working again, I really couldn't care less about custom roms etc.
If anyone can help this poor n00b, I'd be very grateful!
Incidentally, I've downloaded what I understand to be the factory rom for JW4 from sammobile.com - this is a 171MB zip file with just two files inside - a tar file called JW4_JW5_JW4 and a dll file called SS_DL.dll. I'm not really sure what to do with these to restore my phone via Odin. This is the kind of thing I need help with - the threads I've read so far don't make much sense to a poor confused n00b I'm afraid.

OK, thanks for that. I'm supposed to be asleep right now, so I'll come back to this later but thanks for helping.
But just to clarify for now - this will restore the phone to a working version of 2.3.3 and from there I can get back to the latest stock rom (2.3.6) via Kies, yes? I need to get into Kies anyway to restore my contacts from backups (as I haven't yet seen a way of restoring the backups except via Kies).
Thanks once again.

Well, I did get it working again in the end by using a factory rom. Thanks for your help anyway, W1nst0n.
I do intend to attempt to root it again but this time I intend to do it properly.
Any suggestions on what may have caused the boot problem I had? Perhaps using a version of ClockworkMod that was incompatible with 2.3.6 Value?

So i got a samsung galaxy ace, it's rooted and with b84 CF-Root kernel.
1) The thing is sometimes, I press Wi-Fi button or Bluetooth, and in the Wifi it says Error and on bluetooth just won't conect. I don't know what the problem is, and the only solution is to reboot the phone. Is this a problem? Can it be fixed? If It can, how? If not, please read point number 2.
2) If its not fixable, what ROM you advice me to reinstall? I have s5830XWKS2, some people say the DDxxx8(or something like that) is better don't know why I'm no programmer...
2.1) If I really have to have to reinstall it in order to fix it, how can I do it? Can you point out the thread for it?
3) I run a small business, and I use Tasker for all my stuff. together with other 60+ apps I need to keep, i'm using SD card with ext partition with Link2SD. And the thing i'm most afraid of, is loosing all the data. I came from a Nokia 5800XM, and I flashed it some times, backups are easy to do. Now here on Android becomes a bit complicated. Maybe never someone cleared me enough about it. So what can I do to sucessfully restore all data on the new ROM? I got Titanium backups, and CWM..Will that backup even my dictionary saved words?
4) Thanks, and please, again, make notice that I can't loose anything due to my business, but I can't work with phone needing to reboot at random times cause of wifi or bluetooh beeing bricked.
First of all. There is no such things as urgent situation here. You should remember that.
Second thing. You should post questions in Q&A sub-section. General is for sharing and discussions.
Third thing. There is a adb logcat thingie, which allows to understand a root of your problem more than 'Help me. Something doesn't work'
I remain this thread open but move to correct section.

Yes I experienced the same problem, could be software bugs problem so I think you can reinstall your software for the better.
I prefer cm mod7/8 for ace as it is much faster so you can try Google cyanogenmod for ace. They have all the tutorial you need.
As for your Apps, titanium backup will do fine. Its the best backup so far. Your dictionary words is the default system one? I recommend you smart keyboard pro as it has the function to backup all your words
So in short, backup your EVERYTHING with titanium backup, rmb your contacts too, and install cyannogen mod 7 or 8 whichever you prefer! Hope this helps!

There's no such thing as cyanogen mod 8...only unofficial cm 7.1 kang and official cm 7.2...
Nunopitbull, wifi & bluetooth problems that you experience are caused by the kernel, not the firmware or rom...so my suggestion is to use a kernel that is not based on cf root or use a stock kernel (the one that came with your phone)...just root your phone with the update zip method will do, and for cwm flash the zip for it...the newest version for sga is 5.0.2.6...there's no need to flash a custom kernel...
About cwm backups, it backups your whole system and data partition and also your boot.img (kernel related)...so yes, it is quite safe to say that your whole phone is backup-ed...but keep in mind that stock roms use .rfs format for the partitions...new custom roms use .ext4 format...so to flash a backup of a stock rom, first flash a fresh stock firmware with ODIN and the cooper.pit file...then re-root and re-flash cwm to restore your phone...
And fyi, link2sd uses a second partition right? The apps inside the second partition can be relinked if you reset the phone...as long as you don't format the second partition...but personally I suggest you to use DTa2sd or amarulzz script as it saves more internal space...check it out...
Hope that all the above helps...
So you're saying my problem of wi-fi/bluetooth is because of kernel? Can you help me by PM how to get it working again? I wanted a custom kernel don't remember already why, but I think was for the custom speeds of CPU, so I could have low ones..
Just want this bug to disapear of bluetooth and wifi!

Try flashing a new kernel, this is NOT a rom issue, just a kernel issue.
