root access? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased att tab one week again, rooted using superoneclick and flashed to overcome 2.3.3 as instructed, everything works out fine.
Soon after I installed Titantium backup root, it showed "not rooted access", and I tried other apps (root explorer, tweeks), same message happens, and z4root superoneclick fail to do the magic this time.
Also, I tried to flash cf-root 2.3.3 JQ1 to root this tab, still no luck.
Just want to know how to root my tab? searched the board, could not find solution, any suggestion is appreciated.
My tab information:
baseband 19000ugjk3
pda: P1000xxjq1
phone: 19000ugjk3
csc: P1000Oxajq1

When you go to the app list do you see Superuser?? If I recall correctly, all you had to do is flash the gb stock safe in odin, and that should have given u all the root you needed.

Yes, I can see superuser in app list, and having no problem opening it.
So how can I do this, restocking GB-safe, can you provide more detailed steps, thanks very very much, I desperately need to unlock this tab.

ok when u open superuser can you click on log and see if superuser is denying your apps or if you maybe unknowingly denied them superuse access? The easiest way I can think of it to redo it again. download the gingerbread stock safe on the overcome website in my sig, backup all and i mean all your apps you care about, texts whatever it is. then download odin 1.7. Follow the overcome guide and you should be fine. Once your done your tab should already have superuser. Download and install the overcome RC1 full and flash that threw recovery.. following the guide again. you should be good to go. Hopefully your titanium backups are on external sd card

thanks, I checked the log, no denying of any applications, I will try to re-flashing once again, and see what happens. The only confusion I am having is that flashing overcome Rom requires a rooted system, since my current system is not completely rooted, is it ok? will this procedure brick my tab?
Again, thanks!

restocking shouldnt brick your tab, just clear your system and start fresh. But if your worried about bricking, make sure you are using a computer that wont just turn off in the middle of the flashing process or kids running around knocking your tab off the connector while flashing. If for some reason odin is not successful, just clear odin and try again without disconecting anything. Hope this helps

restocking ROM, seems everything is ok, thanks again,
But I could not find a version of root explorer working in this version,
it keeps shutting down saying "xx stop working", wired!

busybox
have you tried to re-install busybox?
when you open Ti Backup, click the problems button on the bottom. This will usually prompt you to update busybox. Just yes to whatever it says and wait for the application to restart.
Hit thanks if I helped!

I updated busybox through ti as suggested.
Reinstall root explorer 2.12.4, once opened, granted root access, still no luck, "sorry, the application root explorer (process com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer) has stopped unexpectedly, please try again.
really bothers me right now, any alternative app for the same function?

Click to collapse
Why not update root explorer from the market? seeing as the latest version is 2.15?

updated to root explorer 2.15, problem solved!
Thanks a lot, guys!

[Q] {Q} Busybox/root?

//EDIT: Please delete this thread. Titanium Backup installed BusyBox for me after I clicked the "Problem?" button. Sorry!
**Skip to the other asterisked line to skip the long story**
Last night I decided "(vulgarity here) AT&T!" and decided to load FroYo myself.
After reading for hours (on top of reading I've been doing for a few weeks) it seemed it was easier to root on 2.1, then update to 2.2.
I rooted, then installed 2.2 only to find out I was no longer rooted when I tried restoring my apps with MyBackup Pro. After tons of searching and trying 3 "one click" style rooting programs, many times over, the SuperOneClick method worked, only after I did the shell root, and then root button.
Awesome! I had a rooted 2.2 captivate! Restoring my apps with MyBackup Pro let me knew it worked, and then I was also able to install a non-market foreign language pack for the AnySoftKeyboard app. I also installed the MarketAccess app and I'm running the T-Mobile US code, so I'm pretty sure I've got root.
Tonight I wanted to get rid of all the AT&T garbage still on the phone, and a guide I found told me that Titanium Backup would allow me to do so (still not sure if it can all be done from the phone though). I downloaded and installed Titanium Backup, opened it up, clicked the button to allow SuperUser, but I get an error message:
Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work ! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again.
Pretty sure I'm rooted, I am assuming I only require BusyBox be on the phone?
**I was under the impression that rooting and BusyBox was the same thing, or went hand-in-hand, one needing the other.
After now 4 more hours of searching, I can't seem to find a guide that only installs BusyBox, and I'm hesitant to try any of the Root and BusyBox in one methods for fear of the root not working and potentially messing something up.
I found one posting that requires a bunch of commands, but I have no idea where to do them from/in or what to do with the phone.
If anybody could link me to or tell me how to install BusyBox that would be awesome! I am rooted on FroYo. I have the drivers installed. I have DroidExplorer installed. Not sure of anything else that may have come in the .zip files I downloaded that might be installed, so assume only the drivers and DroidExplorer and installed.
Thanks in advanced!!
Busybox is an app on the market, download, open app, install, profit

One rooted when you try and run a program that requires root access a notification should open asking if you why to allow root access.
Click on the super user app. What happens?
nope nothing pop up to ask if i allow the access...
I have tried a two types of one click root program which is Superoneclick and another one by TGA_Gunnman..
But both act in the same way that nothing will pop up and ask whether to allow access...
What happens when you click on the super user app?
Have you tried rebooting the phone?
Have you tried replacing apk with market, search superuser in market, see if it shows installed, try to update or replace
You are on stock, correct
yeap i have tried to reboot after the rooting process...
I can open the superuser app too.
Yes im on stock.
Im thinking should i use z4root now?
Might as well. Did you check for the app in the market?
What are you looking to accomplish with root? What is your goal?
yup i checked the market too... it shows i ald installed the superuser..
Just want to root and use the rom manager to back up...
And i dunno y suddenly the root works! now im okay! Thanks for the help!
I guess we need to install again from market and reboot in order to use this...
No problem, who knows what the issue was. Enjoy, I am sure you will be flashing roms in no time

[Q] x4root version 3

I have installed and run the above, but it did not automatically re-boot . Ii had to do it manually. I now have the z4root icon in my apps. Question is do I have to run it again?? How do I know if my phone (Samsung GT-19000) has been rooted?? I have downloaded Set cpu, but this does not want to run because of "Superuser Permissions" ?
As you can tell I am a newbie!!!
Any advice help would be great
If SetCPU won't run due to SuperUser permissions, odds are that you are not rooted. Check to see if you have SuperUser amongst your apps. If no, then you are not rooted.
It sounds like z4root didn;t work or you rebooted before it had finished, therefore you could try to run it again and let it complete the process. However, I don't think z4root is used much anymore. I myself used SuperOneClick to root my i9000 and had no trouble at all. You can search for it and download it here at XDA.
Good luck
Easiest is to install superuser from the market and titanium backup. If it will ask for permissions (and say so) you will know you are rooted
if not, try something proper like super one click root (before though let us know your ROM and etc etc etc etc)
(rschneck, not having the superuser app doesn't mean necessary you are not rooted if I remember correctly )

[Q] superuser with unrooted tab

I have 7" galaxy tab SCH-i800 2.3.5. I rooted with supreroneclick b4 ota update to 2.3.5. after update titanium backup says not rooted. Now both Blockbuster and google say can not work because rooted. Superuser still on tab and would like to remove it. Reset tab to factory and still same problem and checked su with terminal emulator and not rooted.I think superuser is the problem or could it be unrelated?
There is a froyo stock unrooted.
I don't know if it is worth your while
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136587
thanks, i am not sure if this is a correct file so will hold untill i find out more. So the biggger question is: Am I rooted or not? Will this reset to stock froyo unrooted be the way to go or find a way around google and blockbuster not letting me play movies?
Titanium backup will sometimes report that you are not rooted because it hasn't been granted superuser permissions. It's not that you're not rooted, it's just that Titanium backup doesn't have root access. Google and Blockbuster are correct in that you are rooted, it's titanium backup that is the issue.
Try going into your superuser app and seeing if Titanium Backup is on the "Deny" list. If it is, delete it from that list, go into Titanium Backup. (It should prompt you for Root Access, but if it doesn't, go into Menu>More and select "Reload Application"
If Titanium Backup is not on the "Deny" list within the Superuser app, then go into Settings>Applications>Select the "All" Tab>Locate "Titanium Backup">and "Clear Cache">then "Clear Data". Then go back into Titanium backup and it should prompt you for superuser access.
If all of this fails, you might need to update your superuser app. This can be done in the market. Good luck.
I think the OP doesn't want root.
Said "Now both Blockbuster and google say can not work because rooted"
Seems like he just want to go back to stock or completely remove root.
I tried all but to no avail. This must be a common problem, only a few will notice. With all the smart people here, must be some one who is smarter than the big guys. Please help or advise if I install stock rom what can I expect when done like any issues or not being able to get 2.3.5 GB back or losing wifi or 3G? Thanks for all of your help so far.
Rooting again with superoneclick,, if nothing change,, restock with froyo unrooted and rooting again

[Q] Double Rooted!?

I think I have double rooted my Galaxy Tab 8.9 - but my tiny technical mind is thinking they have probably cancelled eachother out... or probably the second root did not work because the first root file was still present? in any case it is not allowing me to remove bloatware / Superuser App appears to be not granted root access so my rootin tootin first dive into tablet hacking has gone awry! Can you help?
I have a UK Galaxy Tab 32Gb 3G (GT-P7300). I tried installing two separate root zip files via the standard recovery mode, my first attempt should have been flashed/installed in CWM recovery (according to a user on XDA) - but wasn't. I then did factory reset, and tried the standard root advice as given on the top of the XDA Developers GT 8.9 thread. In both cases, I assume the root has not worked, because root checker, and more importantly Superuser App does is not gaining root access. Weirdly, an app called Orbot, which usually tells me that my HTC phone is not rooted, does not do the same when I install it on my GTab 8.9.
I have tried backing up to an old back up via KIES, and also a regular factory reset, but neither seem to get me back to square one (i.e the Superuser app is still installed (and not working) in both cases).... any ideas gratefully received!
I'm thinking of using the Factory Reset function from within CWM Recovery....good idea? or will it wipe everyting including the OS?
No root
I've managed to get back to square one, but flashing the unroot.zip from the How to guide, from within CWM recovery. Then factory reset just to be sure. Then followed original instructions on the how to guide, but once I had flashed the root.zip file, it appeared (in CWM Recovery) to have installed ok, but when I go to reboot, it tells me that "root access may have been lost - fix it?" - I say yes, it reboots, and superuser again cannot gain root access....
what am i doing wrong here?
Any help really appreciated...
Hi Folks - I've tried all combinations now and am wondering if:-
The root.zip file contained in the GTab89Files.zip from the How to guide in this forum is out of date... is that possible? or my second guess is that superuser App is out of date...when I open it up, click the "i" information menu, is says su binary v3.1.1 - outdated binary box is ticked, and i then tap to update...everything green or okay, until "Gaining root access.....FAIL" - ( by the way, I have I think given Superuser the admin rights, by selecting Preferences>Auto response>Allow)
I know there is a new version of Superuser v3.1.3 available. Would it help, do you think, to swap out the superuser.apk file in the original root.zip mentioned above? or will I get into a real mess then?
I've searched all over these threads but can't seem to find an answer - any advice appreciated.
