[Q] Titanium Backup has lines through apps - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was running Phoenix Ultimate rom. Switched to Mosaic III Diet. Restored my apps using Titanium Backup Pro; however, some of the apps did not get installed. When I look at them in TiBu, those apps have a line drawn through them. The legend states this means the app was not installed. Were they not installed because they will not run in GingerBread?

more than likely they are apps that were once in /system/app/ in your old rom or specific for that rom/build
name an example of some of the apps.

Actually, TeleNav was a separate app that I had downloaded from the market. Liked it a lot more that the Google navigation. I have read other posts where other people are also trying to re-install the app and can no longer find it. One post stated that AT&T had it removed from the market. Since I had the app in my TiBu backup folder, I was in hopes of being able to re-install it.

I'm having much the same problem with Titanium Backup only I flashed Dlev 4.1 ROM from Cognition 4.1.1.
I have lines through many of my apps that I didn't think were system apps. To name just a few:
Angry Birds
Astrid Tasks
Amazon MP3
Barcode Scanner
Evernote
Facebook
Firefox
It says I have a backup of them dated today right before messing with all this ROM flashing. Most of this I don't really care about except for my 3 Angry Birds apps. I can download the others again and hopefully just sign in and all should work okay but I really want my Angry Birds progress back. To be honest a vast majority of my apps have the line through them (all but a handful) and most of those were installed with the Dlev ROM.
Any help someone could give me would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.

have you tried restoring them? what error message do you get?

I have not encountered any sort of error messages. The steps I'm following to restore my apps is:
1. Start TiBackup and click the Backup/Restore tab
2. Scroll down to the app I want to restore (in this case one with a line through it)
3. Click on the particular app. When I click on an app with a line through it the following options are given: Backup, Freeze, Uninstall. The backup and freeze buttons are grayed out and thus not selectable. The uninstall button is red but it is also not selectable (because that app is not currently installed on my phone). I also have an option to delete next to the backup.
TiBackup sees the backup and recognizes it as an app I just have no way to restore it or the data. However, if I go into the Market place and download the app and then go back to TiBackup I can see the app without any sort of line drawn through it and I can from there restore the app data. Once I do that all is good and everything is as it should be.
However, I really don't want to spend the time to download all my apps again as that's why I backed them up in the first place. Also, when I go into the Market and download an app it seems to work and install like it should. However, if I try and install a second app after downloading and installing the first app it gives me an error saying "error downloading 'app name'". There is insufficient space on the device." Now I know there is plenty of space on my device. According to the task manager Storage tab I have used 219mb/1.85gbs of internal phone storage. Also, if I reboot my phone and then try to download the exact same app as before I can download and install it just fine.
Thanks again for the help.

So I did some searching around the forum it seems the insufficient space error I've been getting is something to do with the new version of the market. And I've had a work around by just going and searching for the app on my computer and it the app store sends the app to my device so that part is fine. So at least I have a work around for that.
However, I still would like to get my apps back in TiBackup for the simply reason I do have a few paid apps and I don't really want to have to purchase the apps again. I've downloaded several of the "free daily apps" from the Amazon App store and can't download them again for free.
Thanks for the help.

On the front page of tibu hit the menu button, choose batch, restore missing apps with data...
If there is a 0 there, go to settings>applications> manage applications>titanium backup> clear data and cache

If you have problem with titanium application backup you must need to hire a developer.

Restore file list has strikethrough / greyed out text and fails to restore.

You obviously have not read this thread. This has been tried and failed. Also, what you explained, is simply the way that TB is supposed to work. Do you not think that if it worked as intended, we would be having these issues?

Just because there is a bug/glitch/error in an app does NOT the user does not know what they are doing....
I consider myself a very experienced Android user. I had tried clearing the cache for the app as the first thing I did. I then uninstalled the TB, and rebooted my phone. I then reinstalled TB Root, and the Key. When I try to restore my apps from the External SD card, it lists them all, and has each of them with a line striking the names out. If I select an individual one, and try to restore it, TB pops up the RESTORING dialog box, and sits at 0%. It does the same for each and every app, either individual or in a batch restore. In a batch restore it starts with the last file name, alphabetically, Zillow in my case, and sits at 0%. I let it try to restore one single app with data for well over an hour, and it still remained at 0%

Did this ever get fixed? I'm having the very same problem after a factory reset

Nearly 7 months later and no reply....I'm having the same issue. Been using TiBU for many, many, many years. This is the first I've come into issue with this. Backed up my apps to Box cloud storage and also Google Drive Storage. Google's restore successfully restores almost all of my apps with the exception of a few apps that have a strike-through line. When I checked the TiBU backup folder on Drive for those apps, I noticed that of the three files that TiBU creates for each app (for restoring purposes), two of the three files were missing (so it was a bad backup of those apps to the cloud).
Now, with Box.com....all the app's have their corresponding THREE files that TiBU creates during backups BUT....when restoring everything from Box EVERY single app is crossed out with a strike-through. I've been rooting my phones and using backup services like TiBU since the very first Samsung Galaxy S phone ever. My current issue here resides on the Motorola Nexus 6 stock-rom (but rooted).
I'm stumped.

Wait...just saw something right now. Per one poster's suggestion, I decided to restore an app from the Play Store and then open up TiBU to see what happened. I noticed that NOW the RESTORE option (which the word "restore" was always missing in all the striked-through apps) was available. When I selected the Restore button, TiBU asks: Data only?
It would seem that the only DATA was restored to Box.com and not the actual app. I'll confirm this further by trying a few more apps.
Problem is, I think one of my apps was a sideloaded app, patched. shucks.

MyBackup

Hey i don't know how popular it is but i love this app! It backs up bookmarks, system setting, sms and more and puts the backup on your sd card. For those flashing phone alot saves alot of headache if you need to wipe. I know there are other ways to backup but hey i like it.
Yea i actually found it as soon as i flashed to jf 1.3, saved me from a whole lot of trouble during my first wipe flashing a theme.
I think its a perfect app. Helps so much after a wipe. If you back up your apps with Astro all your data is saved too .
MyBackup is a must have...
This app is great. Its fast and reliable... Everyone needs a backup of their phone and this app does it best...
now we need to add the app backup capability found in astro into mybackup and it would be the ultimate end user backup utility.

Yeah that would be sweet!!!
App backup now available
The new version of the application backs up apps now... and has capability to schedule a daily or weekly backup... Complete backup utility now
It would be so perfect if it could install all of the backd up apps without you having to click install and done for every single one.
That would be noicee.

I agree with that. Astro is the same way isn't it?
if you rooted you g1, and put your apps on you sdcard, you never need backup you apps, even if you flash/factory reset/wipe/anything else that erases your phone you apps will still be on the ext2 partition on your sdcard i think you can even copy them to your computer if you have a linux machine
Astro is even slower when it comes to reinstalling apps.
As for putting apps on the sd, im gonna wait til google does something about that because i have enough memory left for now. Especially cuz i moved the caches.
Problems with MyBackup
ok, so i did the whole multitouch thing, and now im trying to restore my phone with MyBackup, i backed up all my apps, and all my data to an SD card. Now, i have RC33 with the multitouch add in, and i downloaded MyBackup but when i try to restore the data from the SD card, it gives mr this message: "I/O error: unable to write to SD card. Make sure the SD card is mounted properly and is not connected to your PC."
has anyone else had this problem? The apps restore fine, its only my data (sms, contacts, settings) that gives me that message. Thanks for the help
A reboot fixed that problem for me, though I'm not on RC33.
Yeah it was giving me problems, what it was doing to me is when i restored my system settings the topbar was freaking out and it played ringtones like someone was calling me but no one was, like it is getting the system sounds mixed up. No error messages but still i got rid of it.
Feel lucky. Do *not* restore your contacts using MyBackup. Just re-sync with the google server... I restored using MyBackup and I got duplicates of everyhting and it broke the syncing of my contacts.. For everything else, it worked flawlessly (fantastic for SMS!) but gmail has a backup of your contacts, so there's no use.
Yea, the application says in the opening notes to use either the gmail contact backups or the app, not to use both. There are known issues for sync messing up, but I don't think it is because of the app. Because even without this app people are having a lot of problems with their sync...
I dont know if its just me but when ever I restore my home screen shortcuts all of the shortcuts inside my folders are all messed up or even missing.
For example my games will be in my media folder and my browser short cuts will be in my shopping folder. And some folders will be empty for example my apps folder will be empty and it wont be in anyother folder.
Anyone else have this same problem?
MyBackup Pro
Check it out. This new version solves almost every problem. Restoring all the apps at once does not have any problems at all.. And its just a buck, can not go wrong... Love it!
anybody know where to download this app ? thank you
u tried the market?

[Q] restore help please..

Am new to Android two weeks ago. I had to have my new SGS replaced and thought that all the phone settings and apps were being synced with my google account (I've always had Background Data and Auto-sync checked on as well as my google accounts set to sync on for Gmail, Contacts and Calendar). Having powered on the new replacement and entered my google account settings I was expecting it to recognise that the new device was not in sync with google and offer to push everything back down to the phone.
All that has happened is my Contacts, Gmail and Calendar are in sync but the phone settings & previously installed apps through the market place are not.
If I go into the Android Market Place on the phone and look at one of the previous apps I had installed such as BBC iPlayer it shows my rating and comment so it knows its me but only offers the option to reinstall the app again from the market, i.e. finding each app manually and reinstalling. Is it not supposed to restore the apps you have previously installed? I reinstalled this app from the market but it hasn't restored the user data associated with the app.
Having dug a little further whilst writing this, I notice that if I log into the Android Market through a web browser on the PC I can see in the "Orders" screen the apps that I previously downloaded. However, on the next tab "Settings" shows My Devices with the old and new phone listed. There doesn't seem to be a way to remove the old phone from my account or tell it that the new phone actually replaces the old so just give me the old data to the new device.
Being new to Android I did think that this was meant to work slicker than this, I hope someone can help out a newbie please?
If you go into the Market and look at My Apps, you should be able to redownload them all (I think an option exists to download them all with a single click "update all" or something like that). Most people backup their applications etc using Tatanium Backup so that they easily restore user apps after ROM upgrades etc. You can also backup SMS messages using an app from the Market.
When you first enter a new Google account into your phone, there is a check box to restore your apps from the Market. This actually is usually best NOT to use since it can cause a sudden massive download.
It is in all ways safer and smarter to just go into MyApps and reinstall the apps one by one. It may take a little longer, but it is a better method.
Titanium Backup is a good option for restoring apps after you flash a new rom, but it won't do you any good if you change phones.
Unfortunately that isn't the case.
If I go into the Android Market Place on the phone and "My Apps" I don't see the apps that were installed on the old phone and thus no option from My Apps to reinstall them.
The only apps that are present in My Apps are those that were I guess added by Three's flavour of this 2.2 OS, which are the Three app plus Google Maps and YouTube.
Their seems to be something wrong with market place if it is meant to work how your suggesting. If I log into market place through my PC that google account sees both the old and new phone but doesn't on the phone offer the old apps to the new phone.
I'm pretty sure that when I entered my google account details earlier that there was no option box to restore as I would have taken that option as I have an unlimited data plan.
I wonder if I should do a factory reset and re enter the account details again but I fear that it will just see this new phone in the market place and not the old one as they obviously have some sort of device id.
Unfortunately it looks like Titanium is just for rooted devices and am not ready to go down that route (no pun intended) just yet.
If the apps and app data are suppose to sync with google then it seems like an unnecessary duplication of work to redo something outside of what should be part of Android natively.
If I have to install a backup app then I would want to find one that backs up all the phone settings, apps and app data to the SD card which I can then move over to the PC where there is obviously more storage. It would be nice to find such an app that provides a selective restore so that it would also be compatible with a new different model phone so that only the apps and app data could be restored.

"Backup to Google"

Does anyone know what the Backup features native to Android actually do? I couldn't find help articles on it. I.e., I know one of them says it will restore WiFi passwords and bookmarks but what else? Then there is an option to "Backup App Data". Is that actually doing what something like Titanium would do?

I have my device set to backup everything with Google. When I went to exchange my Moto X, it automatically downloaded all apps I had installed on the previous one, my Wi-Fi passwords, my pictures from my camera, even the custom background I was using. I did notice that while it restored all my apps, it did not restore the data associated with them. For instance, I still had to log in to my instagram account, and my progress on Plague Inc was reset. Still, saved a lot of time having to download all my apps individually from the market, and transferring all the pics I has taken was kinda nice as well.
yea it only backs up the apk and thats it.

Which personally I find kind of worthless, without backing up data/settings what is the point really?
But I have paid versions of G Cloud and TiBu which take care of all my backup needs, which I think both those apps are well worth the cost.
agreed jexx until they backup all your settings ill still be reliant on titanium backup. That is really the only reason i want root anymore.

Backing up APKs and Apps: What's the best?

Okay, so we all know that when we launch Samsung's Gear Manager, it instantly wants to restore the Gear and clear out all our apps and setting. What to do?
I have read up on the different backup services and apps and I want to know what everyone is using?
It seems like Titanium Backup is popular but the paid app. for the unrooted phones is expensive, when so many free apps are available. What makes it better? Any apps that batch restore all your apps possible?
I am using Google Drive to backup my APKs that I cant just download from the Google Play Store, but are the services and specifc apps any better? Hell, they seem to be backing up the data on Google Drives (GD) anyways. Seems like me just putting them on GD in the first place just saves me the space and time of downloading yet another app.
Have also read a little about some people hiding the APKs in subfiles and then just opening them up and installing them again. That seems like a useful idea but would love to know exactly where to hide the files.

[Q] Apps from Old to New Phone

Hello Experts...going to upgrade my current Galaxy Nexus to a Nexus 6. Is there an easy way to get all my apps from my current phone onto my new one? I have some that are side loaded and just want to be able to port over what I have to the new phone. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Try Helium from Play. It backups apps and data.
Verstuurd vanaf mijn Nexus 6 met Tapatalk
when setting up the n6, itll give you an option to port over your apps from your previous phone. problem is, those side loaded apps wont appear. but you cam jyst send yourself those apps or use an app like titanium backup to back them up/restore them.
TitaniumBackup works great. I have used it for years to port apps & app data from phone to phone to phone. Try it & you won't regret it.
Titanium backup is my go to, only thing is you need to be rooted..
TiBU
but DO NOT restore system files,
what I did getting my N5 data ready to port to new device (2 days ago) backup everything TiBU will backup, copy all files to new device (or the temp N7 device in my case) and restore only regular play store apps, and its safe (only if the relatively the same base OS version) "accounts."
the best order is restore "app only" things that you are unable to get from the play store, the selectively restore the data to those apps you know would be a pain in the ass to set up (email clients, security DVR clients, Tapatalk...) but if its a red system file, avoid it, even for files like gmail.
the biggest problem TiBU causes people is flashing a new ROM then restoring everything they backed up, at that point you just unflashed the rom and run the risk of pushing bad incompatible core files on the new build...
in short (as I'll explain in my case) my N5 files have been copied to my N7 and restored what I stated above, while I wait for my N6 to be sent to be some day soon hopefully, where I will repeat the same process... all devices are on LP5.1.x and have had no issues... by importing the green accounts data, I'm not needing to re enter the 7 email accounts I want gmail to sync.

I've never had the need to restore from an app, not flaming them, just not my preference. I let the OS do it and for sideloaded apps, I typically have kept a copy on my PC, so I just batch re-upload to the phone using wifi file explorer pro, and install what I want.
In fact, to be it's great because when doing a major change I can take an audit of what I really have used, and not to decide what to load, etc. (and you can choose as well when porting over, etc.)
