[Solved] Media scanner stuck forever at 0%, Database memory error - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently and suddenly, my media scanner seems to be very messed up. Whether triggered from a file manager, or simply booting, it never gets past 0% of the internal storage. After about 10 minutes, my user memory is completely full, and I start getting errors about the database being full, telling me to delete apps. I also can no longer receive any text messages when this happens due to the memory being full. If I go to the list of installed apps through the Settings menu and choose Media Storage, I see that it is using up almost 100MB of my ~130MB of user data. I can choose force close and then clear data, and the phone is back to normal (until the media scanner is triggered again).
I don't want to disable the media scanner, because I use stock apps that rely on it (such as Gallery). I've already scanned and checked my phone's memory for errors, as well as cleared cache/dalvik cache and factory reset. My ROM/kernel/etc. are in my signature.

I had a similar problem a little while ago and it turned out that a corupt video file that I had saved to my phone was causing the media scanner to be stuck at 0%.
Try removing any recent (or all) media files and see if that helps. Then all you have to do is figure out which one(s) was causing the problem.

You were spot on. There were 4 video files on my phone's memory that seemed to be causing the issue. Interestingly enough, I couldn't find anything wrong with the videos--they were standard DIVX 5.1 vids and they play fine on both my computer and phone (although the file needs to be opened through a file manager or player that doesn't rely on the media scanner). None of my other videos trigger this issue, so I guess I'm stuck with re-encoding these 4 and taking a quality hit, even though I wanted to avoid that.

[Q] Problem - Picture Showing Up In Sound Player/Winamp

Okay i'm having a really weird problem. To keep it simple, I downloaded a photo onto my phone but deleted it later. It is no longer on my phone and I cleaned all my cache.
Whenever I open a song using either Winamp or the default Music Player, the picture shows up in the display!!! What the hell is up with this? The picture is no longer in my phone and all the cache has been cleared.
How do I get rid of this?
Have you tried a reboot? Maybe even a battery pull? Thats a strange one.

Not playing audio/video files

So since Rogers updated us to froyo (yes this is the canadian i896 model) I've been having the problem lately where it just won't play media files anymore.
I'll notice this when I go to watch a youtube video and it'll say "problem playing touch to retry", then I'll go try to play an mp3 and it'll say "cannot support this file type", so I'll check a video and get the same. The pisser is that it won't play notification sounds or ringtones either as it seems to be all connected.
Now these are files that played fine only some time ago, so I dont' know what caused it to stop being able to play.
If I power down / power up the phone things are back to being copacetic. Just a pain as it takes about a minute to power down, and then at least a minute to boot back up.
Samsung suggested i just reset the whole phone - which I'm not enthused to lose a lot of data (some of my programs just don't allow backups).
I've taken the scientific approach and run each of my programs one at a time with after running it, checking it with with a media player to see if it'd stop working. nothing.
I've deleted/uninstalled a lot of programs to ensure it was running on only what i truly wanted. nothing
I just don't want to reset my phone - that would suck.
It just seems to happen at random. Literally I watched a video, put the phone down, went to bed, woke up the next morning and it didn't play. Now who know s what background apps were going on... but how can I control that..
any help/suggestions?
I have the same phone with the same issue
I have a new theory-
I noticed that it happens after I get a notification that my battery is full.
It sounds silly but it's the only thing I noticed that affects it.
I'll keep on testing..
heard the official twitter app causes some issues - uninstall it to fix
i uninstalled - so we'll see if it fixes

No Apps in App Drawer?

I am on a Custom ROM and this problem has occurred on several different ROMs, from Time to Time "Some" or "All" my App Icons disappear from App Drawer. I can usually get them back by Rebooting but sometimes I have to Power Off and ON a few Times or even pull the battery to get them back. Does this happen to other people?

Are your apps ssored on the internal sd, or external? Move them to the internal one if not. Should fix your problem.
Also, in the future, please tell us which rom/kernel you are using. It will help with troubleshooting, as some problems are rom specific. Hope this helps.

All Apps are on the Internal sd and at the moment I am on Ficeto's Base JVP but it has happened on Darky's 9.5 and 10.1.
Do they disappear at random or in relation to something you've done? My app drawer goes blank once in awhile, but only when I do something that involves an app that modifies some system activity or process. Like the phone has to take a few moments to rescan what apps are on my phone. It never requires a reboot, though.

It seems to happen if I have just done something. Sometimes it occurs when I update an App or at times it has happened after I have Run TiBackup to backup newest Apps. This Morning I was connected to my Computer moving some things Off my PC to phone and when I disconnected from PC and hit App Drawer I had like 4 Apps there. So I Powered phone Off and On then checked Drawer I had NO apps. Powered Off--Pulled Battery and Rebooted still nothing. Finally after another "Re Power" they all back.
when you run TiBu to make a backup, it kills each app that it is backing up, if they are running. your launcher is running so it kills the process and when it is done, you have to give it a few minutes to rescan. if you have used apps2sd or moved apps to the SD using the built in application manager, once you are mounted to your PC, they will not show up because your phone no longer has the internal sd mounted.
there is no reason to have everything moved to SD if you already have them there

Question Spotify is acting odd

This might be the app itself but I didn't have any issue on my S20. Since I updated the phone it randomly cuts out. Any ideas? Never on WiFi though...

Is it when the screen is off? Check it's not been put to sleep in battery settings
it seems that latest ROM updates (I think I have this on all AUB* ones) is weirdly strict on background activities and cuts every one of them. my whole device acts strangely - apps not showing notification or showing them late (hours later than they were supposed to show), my apps are not updating: I have to repeatedly FC play store, then clear its cache so that currently installing app changes state from downloading to installing, than do it again to change state fomr installing to installed etc. worked fine on AUA* ones. it is really annoying. btw I tried to clear cache and dalvik/art cache from recovery, but that did not help. I have not tried factory seset yet...
It seems that it was data corruption during regular OTA. Factory reset seems to fix problems for me.
I'll try a reset.. thankyou
Let's be honest, the Spotify app has issues too begin with. On my S21 and Pixel 4 it can be playing songs to my earbuds then suddenly stop running in the background on its own! Unlock the phone and itis still open in the foreground.
Perhaps it's time for a new music app if this is a known Spotify issue... But if it's not a Spotify issue, then check in your battery settings (as others have mentioned) to see if your phone automatically started putting it into "Sleep Mode".

My Samsung Note5 keeps glitching

Hello guys
For the past 24 hours my phone has been glitching. It suddenly stopped playing all forms of media files. Most social media apps won't open anymore, when I try It just hangs and then shows an error message asking whether I want to wait or close app. YouTube works for a few seconds then freezes. Spotify won't play songs despite having excellent network. WhatsApp and Instagram statuses don't play their videos anymore. Even my native music player is not playing songs anymore. Even call ringtones don't play. I tried downloading an app yesterday, though unsuccessfully and I think that might be what kick-started the problem.
I need help please!!!!!
P.S. I attached a screenshot of the error I saw when I tried to play and change my calling ringtones
Factory reset unless you can find the cause. Possible malware. Xhelper is possible if running lower than Android 9. A factory reset will not purge it and either way a reflash be the next step to rule out a mobo failure.
How do I reflash?

Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu first.
If that fails try a factory reset.
