New bootanimation Dark City Thunder! Tested on BAMF ginger and froyo roms. Should work with others. Working sound.
Place zip file in the /system/media folder using root explorer.
Rename the old bootanimation if you wish to keep it later down the road. Check the Thanks button if you like.

Downanimation is for when you power off the phone. You can leave that alone.
Yes if you do not rename the old bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zipold it will over write the old file.

now how do i get it from the pc and into the actual system file??? not the sd card
edit!!!!!!!! nvm got it in there!!!!!!11
Edit 2!!!!!!!!!!!!! now it tells me i cant move it into the system/media???

You can push it through ADB if you have it installed but I don't want to confuse you.
1. Plug your phone into the computer. Mount disk drive. ( depending what rom you have you might have to put it in internet pass through mode then usb disk drive)
2. Drag the file onto the sd card. Unmount phone.
3. Using your favorite file manager( RECOMEND ROOT EXPLORER!!) move the bootanimation.zip from the sd card into the correct file folder.
4. With root explorer the correct file system should /system/media folder
inside the media file folder will be the old bootanimation.( rename it to bootanimation.zipold
5. paste new bootanimation.zip reboot and enjoy

Yes but it is worth ever penny and a rooted users best friend. You only have to pay for it once and will transfer to another device in the future with your gmail account. I have five devices that have my gmail account and all of them have my paid apps.

still tells me that i cant rename and or copy or move!!!! WTF!!!! lol.. u think i can flash this??
Edit and i cant get root explorer yet!!!! lol but file manager everything shows up like i can just flash it like a rom??? wht you think?

I made a flashable zip. I'll upload it in alittle bit

sorry for the packaging error
I just tried to flash through metamorph its saying that it doesn't have a certain file for ot to be flashed through metamorph
Yeah I tried it and I get the samething.
The theme control file exists in the .ZIP, but Metamorph isn't picking it up. Even if I place the .THM file and .ZIP in the AndroidThemes folder on my SD... NO WORKIE!
how to get this to work in metamorph:
1) After u download this file to ur SD, use a file manager such as EStrongs Filemanager.
2) Find the .zip file that you just previously downloaded, click and choose to unzip/extract it.
3) Find the new folder u just extracted to and open it.
4) U will c 2 folders. Delete the Mac one & copy the other to AndroidThemes (located in the root of SD card).
5) Open Metamorph, click Open Existing, find the folder again and then then .thm file.
well... I got this to work, but must say that the image quality is really poor. It looks sorta 8-Bit on my MT3G...
are there any other boot animations available for metamorph?

Honeycomb Original Boot Animation

.
Hi there ppl, here I post you a link to a lil modified version of the original honeycomb rip boot animation that will work in our Arias fullscreen. Is just the dimensions changed in the desc.txt file but it'll save you sometime (as I had to go all the way to get how boot animation worked q: )
Here how it looks on a Nexus S: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrAoqgAzKyQ
If you're running CM7 it should be as simply as replacing the bootanimation.zip located in /data/local/ with this one (use root explorer or ES file explorer with root explorer option to navigate there). If you're running another ROM (and you dont have a bootanimation at /data/local/) take the second version and flash it in recovery. Not sure if that would work (havent tried) but it'll replace the animation found at /system/media/ folder as our Arias are s-on still.
Bare Version (just drop it in /data/local/)
Recovery Flasheable Version (replaces bootanimation found at /system/media/)
Neither way works breh
Edit: CM 7rc

There's really no science to have it, you just need to replace the bootanimation.zip in /data/local/ (that folder is hidden, you need root explorer to get in there, is in the phone memory, not the sdcard)

The original is in /system/media. Putting a bootanimation.zip in /data/local will supercede the original. It looks great on the aria. Thanks for the port.
It should work on any rooted phone, CM or not.
Also, there's no need to use root explorer. Just place bootanimation.zip on your sdcard root and open Terminal Emulator:
su
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot

Works like a charm.
Some of the versions floating around have white flashes between the loops - this one fixes that:

The white flashes happens when there are foreign files inside the folder with the PNGs. In most case, a certain thumb.db hidden file I think we all have meet before

awesome boot animation, but i'm curious about changing the boot image like the one in the video to like a picture in my gallery?
thanks for this!! worked like a charm.
can't get it working, running FR008.
HTC White-screen
I used Root Explorer to drop the file into the right folder, and when I rebooted the phone (multiple times), it got stuck at the HTC Screen.
Not worth the hassle...at least for something that lasts less than a minute.
Did it wow for a complete noob, if no one doesn't know how to do this shouldn't be rooted at all lol.
1. Get root explorer
2. Download his bare version and put it right on ur sd card so u can find it
3. Then go to phone on root explorer go out of where it first takes u via back button
4. Copy the bootanimation.zip
5. Then it'll have a option to paste hit back button it will take u back to where u were
6. Go to data/local/ and hit paste
7. Reboot and watch the awesome boot!

Better yet:
Copy the bootanimation.zip file to the ROM zip file (system/media folder) and THEN copy the ROM file to your device using your choice of file exchange.
The first thing I do with new ROMs is to delete the files I don't want or need (like the language files) and add those I want to have (e.g., the original CM7 email app that supports color-coding accounts).
You can also replace the ROMs bootanimation the same way.
I've significantly reduced the size of the ROM by getting rid of unnecessary ring tones (who needs 50 of them?), programs (e.g., ROM Manager), and wallpapers (e.g., smoke, other useless ones).
I can shave typically 5-7 MB off the size, which may not seem like a lot, but helps.

Es file explorer is not as consistent when it comes to giving you root access, which is what you need to paste in system, app. Imo, root explorer is a must.
Edit; although I read that you can obtain that permission somewhere in the es file explorer settings

also rename the bootanimation to what yours is named either ATT_bootanimation.zip or bootanimation.zip
Here is how I did it.
1. Download the .zip to your desktop and rename this file to the file that your device uses. (I use ATT, so I navigated to system, customize, resource, and that's where I saw my boot animation and it was, ATT_bootanimation.zip
2. Mount the disk so you can open the external sd drive on your computer
3. Moved the .zip file from the desktop to the external sd drive
4. I use Rom Toolbox, but use a root explorer and copy the bootanimation zip file from your external sd card, to your devices bootanimation file, It will ask if you want to overwrite or keep both files, but you MUST overwrite. Reboot phone and it should work. If that doesn't then try and install it from your recovery and you might have to delete the cache, but try that.
I do recommend backing up the phone and the current rom though...Just incase

You can always try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678540&highlight=sense
You have to download them first but it lets you see what it will look like.
Don't overwrite your ATT_bootanimation.zip file just rename it ATT_bootanimation.bak (or just bootanimation.bak if your original bootanimation file is named just bootanimation). This way if you can't get it to work then you can delete the file that dosen't work and go back to your original file by putting the .zip back.
Try install boot animation factory
HTC VIVID 4.0.4 SENSE 4.1
I'd love to try Annimation Factory but it requires Win SP3. I only have/use the laptop my company gives me and they control what SP are installed with an iron fist and we are only on SP1. I really need to build a new box. I"m still working on doing it the old fashion way as discribed in the OP's document.
EDIT - FYI - I installed Annimation Factory and it works just fine on SP1. One thing that I have noticed every time I open it it prompts me there is a new version even when turning off the check for updates in settings. When I try to download the new version it gives a downloader error. I don't think this is related to SP1. The AF version I have works good though. I'll go and get the new version manually.

Titanium backup update.zip question

Where is th update. Zip file located
I creaed update.Zip file but im not able to find it
Its located in /sdcard
i still not able to find it
when you create the update.zip file, and it's finished, the notification bar will have a notification about the path, check that. If it's not there, may be the zip was not created successfully.
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
Was this solved? I can't find the file either.. it's not in the root of the sdcard, I've tried to create it twice and searched for it. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
dont you get a notification of completion of the process and when you pull it down, you can see where its located ?
I'm having the same problem. If I look with root explorer, it exists on the root of the SD, but I can't see it in windows? Maybe it's a 2GB file limit thing or something?

Answering my own question - its definitely located in the root, just not visible in Windows no matter what I do. Use a root explorer to grab it and move it to a flash drive or remote network location, that's what I did and it worked great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I used wifi file transfer. I was able to download the file from there.
I had this problem. Try simply unplugging your phone from the USB cord, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back into your PC. Your PC should now see the update.zip.
One of common prob's with MTP !!
just do a search in root explorer, i got 4 locations of the same file on my galaxy s3 so you can find it in anyone of those.
and yes it is the same file in all of those locations, i even tried to change the name on one of them to check if all of them changed and they did
/data/media/0/update.zip
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
/mnt/shell/emulated/0/update.zip
/storage/emulated/0/update.zip
Move the file out of the root directory and put it a folder, any folder. It will then show up on windows.

This worked for me! Although I used the stock file manager. After moving the update.zip to another location using file manager, I was able to see the file via Windows as well.
just change the file name and retry. worked for me
