lagfix causing lag on overcome gold? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I upgraded from stock froyo to oc 2.0.0 gold.
Then I noticed some lags.
the worst were in the gallery app which had about one fps while thumbnails were loading and in maps when zooming in to a level where buildings are displayed and then I then scrolled. This totaly stalled the device for more than 10 seconds sometimes.
Then I disabled lagfix in recovery and now it feels like in froyo again, both maps and gallery (i have about 800 photos on the device so itcan be easyly reproduced.
I wanted to post it in the oc thread in dev section, but I do not have permissions to do so.
Any ideas?

any ideas of what if you already found the solution ? ... they have to work on it little bit more give them time , they will release an update so wait

For me my problems are solved, but isnt this the purpose of this forum to tell others?
I know that there were reports of lags but I dont remember someone pointing at lagfix to cause the lag.
Sorry if this was already known.

Your gallery will lag after a new rom, as it needs to build a cache first.
If you followed the instructions perfectly when flashing overcome you shouldnt have any lag

I followed the instructions 100%. Really pedantic.
After killing and restarting the gallary app the lag was back evrry time, rebooting didnt help either. It didnt seem to be a cache issue.
After disabling lagfix galary was fast right from the start.
also all other lags I noticed vanished.
I can turn lagfix back on and see what happens, my guess is that lags will come back.

The lagfix could be borking with the included tweaks, but you dont need the lagfix anyway

Yep, lagfix is a stupid name for a filesystem conversion anyway.
I admit I did not know what lagfix was until I tried to disable it, heard the robot voice and then checking via adb shell for mounted filesystems.
I have no problem with rfs and will stick to it for now.

if you want ext4 see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943669
Use that kernel, and see the instructions in converting, i'm currently using the kernel, so far so good.

are you using this kernel with overcome gold ? i really need to know the benefit cuz overcome also got the same kernel or am wrong ? thanks in advance

ok I converted back to ext4, tested and converted to rfs once more.
with ext4 gallery lags like hell, with rfs it is okay.
Strange..

Cyanogenmod 7 problem?

When I finished flashing cm7 on my crappy, I tried to reboot but it just sat at the "galaxy s cyanogenmod" screen for a good 30 minutes. I took out the battery and tried again but I got the same results. Any ideas? BTW I didn't disable lag fix before I flashed. Is that the problem? Thanks in advanced!

Sounds like a bad flash, try reflashing it. If I recall correctly, it changes the fs, so having lagfix enabled shouldn't be a problem, though in general it's good practice to disable lagfixes before flashing anything just to play it safe.
So try a reflash and, to quote atinm from the OP of the CM7 for captivate thread:

From what I read, CM7 requires ext4 to run and lagfixes are accomplished by converting over the filesystem from RFS to ext4. So if anything, having the lag-fixed enabled is what you are suppose to do. I wouldn't turn it off as that would mean converting the filesystem back to RFS, which is incompatible with CM7.
The early gingerbread ports (dual boot) required you to have an ext4 lagfix enabled, but CM7 for captivate as it stands now gives you a fresh filesystem either way. The only prerequisite for installing CM7 for captivate currently is a kernel with CWM recovery.

OK so I tried re-flashing, but this time when I flash the intital kernel and booted into (Orange) clockwork, its says at the bottom "E: no misc partition" . I continues flashing and got the same results. What now?

The error message happens to everyone and is a non issue.
Are you following the steps of formatting data, cache, system? Are you doing a factory reset after you flash the cm7 initial xxxxx zip?

ha! third times a charm! it worked!
Either you didn't follow the flash instructions correctly or something in your phone is preventing a successful flash. restore your phone to unrooted stock, and then re-root and try the install again. be sure you are doing exactly what the instructions say.
Thanks you guys

Has anyone found a complete fix for GIF issues in browser?

Basically there is a problem with gif images in 2.2.1 browser. Gif images dont play at all, unlike the browsers from 2.2 or even 2.1.
We had a thread about it before, but it died. We thought of a partial fix but it wasn't completely fixed because you would have to clear your level 2 memory every once in awhile for them to play again.

I personally still recommended oclf as a way to improve a phones performance for a newbie or someone who is not ready to flash kernels or ROMs yet.
If you have an external SD card in, remove it, uninstall the ext2 tools, install them again and try the lagfix again. Once you get it to work, remember to undo it before flashing your first kernel.

I personally still recommended that NEVER use oclf. It's outdated, with very ugly install scripts, a plague to remove and nightmare to fix with a post flash to retrieve data (if you don't dare lost data it's ok).

I didn't have a problem using it, or removing it....and I have a feeling far more phones were trashed by people rushing in to flash kernels before they knew how then have been damaged by oclf.

The creator of the app left XDA for lots of reasons, very few to do with technical issues. Yes I recommended it as a simple way for someone brand new to android or sgs (as I was) to make his phone more usable.
You can try to use it again, or flash a kernel directly via odin...either way I hope it works out for you.

[Q] Notification Bar Lag - Any fix?

Apparently, when i drag the notification bar down, it's extremely laggy. Any way to fix it?
Had the same problem earlier. Then I downloaded oclf from market, now didn't seem to had any lagging problem. Not sure whether it is oclf or something I did. Now no more lagging tho. You can give it a try.
Btw, I also read that custom rom does take care of lagging time. You may also want to give it a try.

[Q] Lag Fix

Just installed the official gingerbread from samsung for my i9000.
Does anyone know what file system it has for the internal memory?
I have heard that it supports ext4.
Need a confirmation or I have to apply some lag fix.

Its rfs ( ext4 support should be somewhere). And there is no lag fix for it as there is no lag.
Does it lag for you ?
If you wanna change the fs try some custom kernel, for example fugumod, voodoo, speedmod etc.
Yeah it was lagging a bit on the first run but after a reboot it seems to be okay.
Anyway thanks for the info.

Doesnt matter it wont start lagging later . Thats why you can try the custom kernels. But as I said. you have time to test it how its now and change later.
