external speaker stopped for no reason.
will only work if I put pressure around it. ie top of battery or camera area..

I have the same problem. I took the top part apart. I took the speaker out, but could not a problem with it. I should test another little speaker I might have around. If the speaker is bad I am going to order a new one.
I had it with HTC, and the Kaiser. I am going to fix the phone and sell it, and go buy an iPhone 3G later....
I've got a problem with my HTC earphones (or myself) and I'm just wondering if anybody else had the same issue or if anybody can guide me on what to do.
Basically, after listening to the earphones I would get what I believe is a mild electric shock in my ear every now and then and obviously I don't keep it in my ear after that as it could potentially be fatal (?) and it isn't a nice feeling ! I rang up my contract peoples and they sent me a new set of the handsfree earphones which I received earlier today but after about 5minutes of listening to them I experienced the same 'shock' feeling !! I also tried the first earphones in my iPod whilst at the gym and I got the 'shock' then too and the iPod wasn't even turned on. Hopefully this has happened to somebody else (not hopefully in a bad way) as reading this back makes me sound a little crazy lol !

You're most likely wearing some jumper or other clothes that cause a static electricity buildup when the phone cord rubs it. I remember having that with a particular jumper some time ago
Solution, try changing clothes and no, nothing dangerous about it, just annoying.

Stop worrying Ash
As already said it's probably static electricity from your jumper/coat/shirt jumping from the metal parts of the earphone to your ear. (unless you got one of those ear/nose trimmer things that has left you with spiky little hairs in your ears )
Technically there is almost totally zero chance of there being a high voltage fault in your HD2 and you already proved that it isn't the phone as you get the same shock from the 'phones in your iPod.
Carry on using the phone and headphones but stop buying nylon jumpers and shirts at Primark, get some nice cotton ones instead

Nothing to do with mobiles, but I get static electricity shocks from my metal cased 'in-ear' phones on the treadmills in the gym.
The treadmill "belt" being a good insulator; Similar in principal to a Van de Graff generator.
Keeps me on my toes....

is your phone connected to ur pc/laptop via usb? i sometimes get a shock when i touch my phone whilst its connected.
You know I have been having the same thing with my iPod just lately, using a pair of Sennheiser CX 300 II headphones. And it's only ever in my right ear, very strange.

I have this problem with my HD2 too!
When i use my phone on battery the shock is very small, just a little bit annoying, sometimes i don't even notest it. But when i connect my phone to a computer using the USB connector, the shock is really intense sometimes. Just 5 minutes ago i got a shock that even made me a little bit dizzy. Changing earplugs doesn't solve the situation.
I'm not using my earphones anymore when my computer is connected to the phone, witch is not acceptable! Too bad the phone is such a good phone, so going back to the shop is not a option. I hope HTC will have a fix for this, but i think that it will stay with me hoping for a solution.

The phone has nothing to do in that, only dry air and static electricity, you'd have the same with another phone or mp3 player
When you connect the device to USB, you connect it directly to ground through the PC, and just give an even better path for the static electricity you're holding to escape
These days where it's so cold outside here and thus the air inside is so dry, every time I walk through my flat I get loaded and will get a serious shock whenever I come too close to something that's grounded. The other day I managed to make my desktop PC crash and reset on its own by going to fetch my headphones and plugging them in without thinking to discharge myself by touching the case first...

My assumption is, that guy was on a suicide mission. The minute he touched those high voltage lines, he was crispy inside and out. Not the mention he dehydrated so quickly from the voltage,he caught on fire like a piece of petrified wood.
I have a bigger problem
Today at work I got an electric shock thru earphones and the touchscreen sensors died within....screen works but no response.
Wonder if warranty will cover repairs/replacement?
Still nice to get some oldschool lobotomy-shock treatments, wakes me up at work

Electric shock? Phew... I never tried the earphone pieces and from the looks of it I don't want to either... So if I read this right the shock can disable touch function from the screen? Perhaps it is better if you all try out a bluetooth headset instead?

It doesn't matter now that the screen is damaged.
HD 2 is made of metal, don't think it matters if I have a wire or not.
But I'll give it a try when I get it back from the repairs.

some weeks ago it start that i had problems with my headphone jack. sometimes it stops playing music when it get touched while i put it in the pants. and now i can be happy if the smartphone register 1 of 100 times i connect my headphones.

I think the best and easiest thing to do to fix this is take it in and have them replace it.
Get the pocket lint out. Seriously, lol. Mine was doing the same thing, so I looked in it with a really bright flashlight and saw pocket lint pressed against the bottom

Repair Headphone Jack
Had problems with D1 phone jack, and D3 also. To me it is a matter of thickness of the male jack. I have real nice Sony ear buds but the jack cuts out, move it and is good for short while. I pinched the jack to make it oblong, very desperate move. Cuts out much less, but still kinda crapy. I have an older Sony ear buds and the jack is thicker and have no problems. Even at the gym.
Bottom line is cheesy, cheap parts there on that Motorola.

This happened to me twice. So, I guess that should be +2!
The plug would stop snapping in. I thought for sure I had broken the jack. But after a little close inspection, a flashlight, toothpick and can of duster I was able to get it working good as new again.

Hi everyone! So I've been having this problem with my One from the beginning, where the top speaker sounds softer than the bottom speaker. It actually feels that it is increasing over time. I've tried a few others at the service center, and all had the same problem. So the real smartass guys there said that it's meant to be like that if most pieces have it. Thing is, it isn't supposed to be like this, and I'm pulling my hair out now. I saw two of my friends phones, which sound perfectly balanced.. I read somewhere that it could be because of dirt accumulated in the speakers, so I took a thin paintbrush and brushed over the top speaker, but that doesn't seem to have made any difference. I'm on ParanoidAndroid now, but even on sense, the problem was prominent. Even after turning on beats audio, it was still very audible. Also, it sounds like the top speaker is trying very hard to be loud, and you can feel it vibrate as hard as the bottom speaker, but it just sounds like it's being blocked/restrained. Any ideas/solutions? Except giving it back to HTC and waiting for a week while praying for the best?

considering that its a hardware defect, theres really nothing much u can do except for giving it to htc. I don't have the same problem as you though

You are not alone I have exect same problem but except giving it back to HTC there is nothing we can do unfortunatly..

Hmm. Do you hear the top speaker sort of "washed out" compared to the bottom one? And when you get the phone closer, the difference gets less noticeable? Describe your problem a little..

The problem is the service center technicians don't accept the problem of imbalance. They say that all the other phones have it, so this will have it too.. And I really have no energy left to argue with those noobs after getting my phone repaired there numerous times.. Well I guess I'll just sell my phone, it's just been full of problems ever since I got it. At the risk of going off-topic, you're from India, what would you see as a good price for this perfect (except for speakers) 2 month old, November batch (HT3B) device?

Why dont u try gng 2 another repair centre. Non-HTC. Those repair centres that treat all kinds of electronics. The manufacturer csn b an ass at times. I dont live in India though. But try fr 35K INR
Hmm alright. I'd rather not spend any longer with the phone, it works perfect now, very new (it is a replacement for my previous One which I sent for repair I think five times) Price will keep reducing if I use it for longer. Thanks anyways

Anyone having the same problem? Im not sure if its because of the whitestone adhesive, the dual speaker mod or what. Its getting annoying that I need to use the speaker just to hear the person im talking to.
Is this happening only when placing calls through your carrier or also when placing whatsapp and facebook messenger calls?
you probably got some of the Whitestone adhesive leaked into the earpiece speaker and then dirt/dust clogging it up, several people reported same thing happening, some careful cleaning with pure alcohol and wipes should sort it

I only call through my carrier, and I notice how weak it was when the dual speaker mod sounded a bit odd

Well.. it " leaked INTO the earpiece " how would alcohol clean the inside?

Sorry for talking first, reasearching later.
So ive made a search about this and what you said was exactly what they did.
chancces are it is just a little bit and it hasn't leaked deep into it but basically just covering the earpiece and clogging it up, give it a shot, you have nothing to lose anyway

After alchol drys. Run speaker cleaning app. They have them in play store. Similar situation happened on 1 of my old phones. The app helped after cleaning out with alcohol.
I had low volume on the ear placed speaker, tried all of the various tricks.
Only way to get my volume back was compressed air

Ok heres the scoop on low note 8 earpiece volume. i moved up from a note 5 and could barely hear my calls. i looked at note 5 earpiece and holes are open. i looked at note 8 and found the holes are covered with aluminum---no open holes??? i used a magnified reader to see them. i used a pin and gently open 6 holes across the speaker again useing magnifier i could see the holes open. guess what? i had to turn the volume down!!! i don,t know if that aluminum cover was supposed to be removed at assenbly but the note 5 has nothing shiny on the earpiece speaker. i am now a happy camper and no longer hae to use my bluetooth earpiece.: CAUTION don,t need to push on pin hard just put it there and twist it a bit u will feel it move.
Well, maybe you punctured a water seal, I would be very careful about moisture and splashes, not to say submerging the device
I had the same issue with my note 8 I bought. The ear piece was more of a brown color than black so I knew it was clogged with dust or something. I took it to a professional and they said they would have to replace the entire LCD screen since the speaker was linked into it. They told me it would cost $280 to replace it. I told them to basically piss up a rope and I left. When I got home I used gorilla tape and put it over the mesh speaker and pressed it in with the end of a screwdriver just enough to get it touching the mesh..not hard. Pulled it off and did this a couple more times. The speaker mesh looks brand new and I hear perfect now. So try that.

Been ages since I logged into this website. Had to do a password reset just to say Thank You. This worked like a charm. I had the low volume issue since a year but did not actually think of searching for a fix because I was using either loud speakr or headset. Thanks again. I was using the low volume as an excuse to buy a new phone which I wont now
