check out this BT keyboard with touchpad! - Nook Color Accessories

i found it on amazon and i think it would be perfect for the nook as a keyboard and im sure you can use the touchpad for games! i just ordered one.. ill post about it when i get it..
http://www.amazon.com/ProMini-Wireless-Bluetooth-Keyboard-TouchPad/dp/B003ZJEUBI/ref=pd_sim_e_1

That looks pretty sweet. I like how it lights up, too.

Nice! Let us know if it works! Might get one too!

I had one of these; I used it to control my media center PC. It's decent but the touchpad is not that great, it lacked responsiveness.

i got the KB today and it works great! i was thrilled with how good it works and get this.. when you touch the touchpad a mouse cursor pops up and moves around the screen! you can click links, copy/paste and im sure more but i havent tested it fully yet. wonderful purchase i would buy it again. 9 out of 10 thumbs up.
edit: the usb dongle it comes with fits inside the KB, how neat is that? ive tested the touchpad even more and you can use it for anything you can use your finger for! open home, open apps, open menus and select items, use it in certian games, i just used it to surf the web and it saved me alot of time clicking on links and opening/closing tabs.. i change my vote to 10 out of 10 thumbs up cuz i was told android doesnt have a mouse feature and this blows me away! oh and its not unresponsive like that one guy said.
edit edit: if you unplug the nooks usb cable from the charging dock and plug in the mini keyboards usb charger it will charge the keyboard! its the same wattage! 5 volts - 300 ma. no need to plug it into a pc to charge it.

Thanks for your review this looks interesting.

About to order this. Looks really sweet. I was wondering if you can map the keys on the keyboard to android home, menu, and back. if so then it would be completely sweet! Also how is it on reconnecting? Pretty quick? I am reading that you need to install an apk to have it work in android. I assume this is not the case when using cm7. Also what range are you getting?

that would be sweet to be able to remap. no you donot need an apk on cm7 and it reconnects pretty quick.

I guess you cannot use home menu and back on the keyboard anywhere? That takes the usability down a bit, especially with it having a mouse. What about range? How is it? Given the crap shoot of range with the nc this is an important bit of info.

Great find! Just asked my wife to throw it into her next Amazon order. I've been wanting a good portable BT keyboard to carry with me when I don't want to lug a full laptop but want to take notes on my tablet. The price is certainly right, too...

the range is 4 feet (maybe a little more) before it gets buggy and starts skippin letters. as for the size, it is 2/5ths of an inch thick and slightly over 6 inchs long.. if you compaire it to a king sized hersheybar it is almost exactly the same size.

i went thru the packaging and found a mini cd and it includes an apk that makes use much better.. well i should say, it makes the letters show up alot smoother.
edit: i found the manufacterers webpage and a much newer version of the driver, its updated for tablets.. http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=blueinputandroid&tab=download

theres a button for layout, but it wouldnt allow me to click it, so it can be done im sure, maybe someone better with programming or hackin apks skills than myself can look into it

WoW thats just what I need.

Anyone try the 2nd generation version of the keyboard or the one with the trackball?

So I actually decided to hold off on ordering this until I see more feedback. Is this keyboard actually large enough to support touch typing, or is it more like typing on a physical keyboard on a smartphone? I had a Treo 650 and, while it was better than the soft keyboards on the iPhone and Nook Color, still wasn't very good for taking notes during meetings or conferences, composing lengthy emails, etc. If I'm going to spend $30-50 (or more) on a keyboard for my tablet, I want it to be something that basically allows me to touch type at (close to) normal speed. Otherwise I know I'd never really use it...
Thoughts?

Nook Color Teardown

There's a gallery of NC teardown pics at zdnet. XDA isn't letting me post the link because i'm not verified, so maybe someone else can.
This was inevitable, but I hadn't been able to find it until today. I thought others might be interested as well.
http://www.zdnet.com/photos/nookcolor-teardown/487636 here it is
From the pictures I see a good possibility for a bigger battery, or even adding a second one. Lots of room, it won't be pretty but something could be fashioned to fit.

Looks good.
Nice to see some more details about the NC coming out, I have yet to find a *detailed* list of the real hardware specs though.. most of the "tech specs" list mention supported ebook formats...
I ordered one of these the other day via a relative in the US and hopefully will be getting it next week some time.
I will miss the haptic feedback though so am wondering if it will be possible to replace the useless mono speaker with a motor from a mobile phone or something..
/mrintegrity
Cool idea. But it'll only work for typing and maybe apps that have clicking sounds. Still, it should work just fine. Of course you'd have to attach it to the inside real tight. Duck tape won't do

Thanks, my mind is kinda running over with ideas actually
From the teardown pics the internals seem pretty basic and there is hopefully a good bit of space. I would love to know if there are any available usb / jtag / etc headers available though.
If not I was thinking also about the possibility of modifying the usb connector with a switch and a usb 3g dongle inside, I just don't know if there is a 3g dongle that is not based on mini pcie though.
As for the haptic feedback I guess you can just assign a "sound" to everything that should produce feedback.
What about the accellerometer, is that sufficient to control cars in steering wheel based games?
/mrintegrity
To answer your very last question yes.. I have Asphalt5 running and won my first race.

The usb dongle would have to support android. To my knowledge there isn't one... but physically it is possible to stick it inside. They aren't that big, just look big cause of the plastic casing.
I think realistically, for now a bigger battery should be the first thing attempted, given the OS limitations we'd face with other mods. It would also allow us to run the NC at 800 mhz at all times via setcpu.

Did you download from the Gameloft site? I couldnt get the version from my G2 to get past the license check, and the only other version I've tried is a pirated 3.13 version. I would be glad to pay for it if I knew it would work.
Tried disabling the compatibility mode and the top of the screen is blank and I have to press high to get selections to work.
EDIT: I figured it out. You have to load a version made for Samsung Galaxy Tab or Galaxy S. I downloaded a version from Gameloft.com with Galaxy Tab selected as my phone and the game displays fine. If you purchase from their website you have to do some trickery. When they text you a download link, just type the link address from your phone in a browser on the Nook Color and the download should start and install the game.
isolated_epidemic - I'm having the same issue as you with Asphalt, as well as some of the other GameLoft games. Does anyone have a solution for this?

[Q] Could the aria be used as a computer mouse?

I was just playing a game and was using my trackball for like the second time ever lol. Then I remembered that the aria has an optical trackball. I was curious to know how accurate the optics would be in terms of dpi and if the phone could somehow be utilized as an optical computer mouse. I know this wouldnt have very much practical use but I thought itd be really cool if it was possible. I do know of remote desktop apps that allow you to use the touchscreen to move your computer mouse, but this would just be a mouse, like maybe a computer program running simultaneously with a phone app to detect trackball movements and bimd them to the mouse... Idk, if anyone with programming knowhow could do it or even just explain whether or not its even possible, id settle for that. Let me know what you think.
Oh I just wanted to add that I figured if such an app was made it wouldnt do much good to use a mouse pad as the screen could be very prone to scratches but the trackball seems to respond very well to fabric surfaces as tested on my shirt and jeans so maybe it could be wireless and work great if youre in a bind or on a laptop, maybe volume buttons left/right click?
Try RemoteDroid. You install a small java app on your pc, then use the app on the phone as a mouse and even keyboard. Not perfect, but much cheaper than buying a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Right... Well if you actually read my post I said I already knew about apps like that but they only let you use the touchscreen as a mouse. Im looking for something that specifically uses the optical trackball of the aria

Why don't you just use TeamViewer? It does support trackball.
P.S: It's kinda useless btw. Trackball only moves right left up or down, so you cant move mouse for example upper-right direction.

Lol, well we're all almost at the point now... I guess I wasn't explicit enough, I KNOW about all the remote desktop apps and the like that are available right now. What I'm talking about is something completely new, where ALL THAT THE APP SUPPORTS is the use of the Aria as a mouse via the optical trackball...
Well i was just trying to help, no need to "shout" with capital letters in anger. By the way, you can't know ALL THE REMOTE ****ING DESKTOP APPS. Good luck on finding solution with that behaviour.

Was only using caps in place of italics, no ones angry, and yeah, trying all the remote desktop apps isn't too hard either, that's what search bars are for. Obviously, you still don't get the point either, I'm not looking for a SOLUTION, it was merely a question of curiosity. Maybe you should think before you get your righteous flaming panties in a bunch.
The short answer is no, because its impractical.

Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
I agree that it would be impractical but I suppose you could use the volume buttons as right and left click and have a semi accurate pointer with the track pad, if it even works like that at all.

Yeah
But Bluetooth Headsets don't work in 2.2 or 2.3 ROMs so I wonder if this will be the same. It'd be good if it linked to the phones wifi.
This bluetooth keyboard doesn't work with Android 2.1, drivers on CD added with keyboard are for Android 1,6. With CM this keyboard will propably work.
I had this keyboard for a few week, but doesn't work with LG, iPod Touch and similar devices.
hmm, it seems interesting... Maybe I'll buy one.
Is there anyone who has used this or similar keyboard before?

I bought this:
http://www.miniinthebox.com/ultra-s...2-0-rechargeable-keyboard-silver_p211557.html
With 2.3.5 CM7 rom you got to have BlueInput software to use it.
With 2.2.1 Utopia that I have now you can pair it directly from the settings>....Bluetooth menu.
It's an HID device (the keyboard) and all such keyboards need HID support from the phone's ROM.
Why I bought this?
I've got one laptop and one netbook.
I never carry a laptop with me. I use it instead of a desktop.
I may carry the netbook and may not carry it when away from home.
When I'm at home and want to lay on the sofa, usually the netbook is occupied by the kids (+ it is heated pretty much).
So I prefer to use my phone for some surfing around the forums etc.
So bought this and is very very practical, although it does not fold.
If you want to buy a keyboard with a brand name eg Freedom Pro (which is foldable) with ssp protocol, there's KEYPRO app to do the pairing and key mapping if I remember well.
This was my first aim, but finally I tried a much cheapier solution.
Sorry for the bump, i searched for over 3 months for a good bt keyboard but all of them cost 30 usd + shipping, so, it's not worth it
but it's big! it isn't portable! right?
I've spoken with mike gapinski (dev of ICS for GT540) and he said, that in ICS there are drivers for pad from xbox, ps3 and apple wirelesss keyboard
I'm using this keyboard when i play ps games on FPse. This device removes problem with multitouch. Keyboard works on SwiftDroid, PCF's CM7, Mike's ICS and I think on most of 2.2+ ROMS. Battery leasts for 48h, so when phone is charging you could play long hours. I bought it for 15 $.
Looks funny but why spend that amount of money for something that will probably be useless to you?
it's not useless - as I said - i play on this device PS games. Without this keyboard you can't use two or even three different keys in games. I think, taht in games it's very helpful.
Looks interesting but If you have access to a wlan sending sms with airdroid is ok.. and cheaper..

Android DosBox

Seeing this needs a physical keyboard. Has anyone tried this yet via bluetooth keyboard or a USB keyboard. I would try but I don't have any compatible keyboards. I would literally hemorrhage if I could play Shadow Warrior or Duke Nukem 3D. Anyone willing to have a go? Please and thank you ahead of time.
*edit* I am picking up a keyboard that will work with it and have a look see tonight.
Any luck? I actually have an old copy of shadow warrior in a box of old computer crap I couldn't bring myself to throw away. I remember the trouble of trying to get that game to play on my apple g3 using an orange PC win95 mimic card and dosbox style prompt. God speed sir, I would be one thing less on the bucket list if I could play Marathon 2: Durandal on my gtab.

Got to wait till the weekend to give it a deeper look. Keyboard works for me. Maybe I will hit up the gtablet irc and see if I can get a few more heads in the game.
If anything, as soon as my toddler is at grandmas for the weekend its going to be a pretty hot date with adosbox, me and a six pack of IPA.

A man after my own heart, I never do anything without some sort of beverage. It sooths the android rage when I can't figure something out. I'll try as well, except my kids will be home hitting me asking for the "Tab-Board"
I've used an old HP fullsize keyboard and usually use the mini keyboard that comes with the case, both USB. I also use both aDOSBox and another varient (tho for the life of me I can't find the link ATM). Have 7th Guest and ROTT and Windows 3.11 on it currently.
IIRC, aDOSBox didn't support sound (or rather it emulated it to null) which is why I changed.
This weekend I want to pull Descent over ...
Awesome to know someone got it working. Pretty cool you got windows 3.1 on it. I'm planning on starting simple and seeing about getting rogue or scorched earth to run from the prompt, if I can do that I will totally drop in 3.1 too. Thanks for the heads up, hopefully I will have good news to report on Monday.

[Q] Do you realy use your S-Pen?

I have my Galaxy Note now for a couple of months, and I realy like it. Never want to go back to a smaller phone again.
But using it for while now I only pull out the S-Pen when showing of my phone, telling everyone that it's a great feature to have.
So, maybe you guys want to share how you use your S-Pen in daily use?

And what do you do when you are using it at home?
Actually everything. Browsing, texting... I like the feel of it in my hand and when its sliding over the screen. long time ago i owned a PDA and now i noticed that i missed a stylus.
Maybe you just give it a try and get used to it - if u want to.
I used it couple of times.. When I actually wanted to write something on a paper but did not find it. Then I realized s-pen importance.
It can be very useful while travelling (when you have no piece of paper and want to write/remember something).
Sketching with Sketchbook Mobile
Games like World of Goo
At lunch times or at meetings when there is no paper or pen available to illustrate an idea or to help explain something
As way to talk/pass messages to friends in concerts or nightclubs. It's simpler than physical keyboard and quicker than onscreen one. Especially when a bit tipsy
So yeah, I use it few times a day and its really handy
I hate finger prints on my screen so i use it all the time other than when gaming.
I find it keeps the screen clean when im cooking if im using it for recipes, i also had a PDA back in the day an missed using a stylis.
I can't belive how well it fits in the phone body even though the s-pen so big, the only thing i dont like about it is the name. lol
I do not sketch, but I use it for drawing technical diagrams instead of doing the same on paper. I also use a flowchart type drawing app, and the pen is much better with that. That is for work.
I rarely write text, mainly because my writing is so awful even I cannot easily read it (I should have been a doctor). I do sometimes make quick notes with it rather than typing, and it is good for adding a note to the calendar instead of dicking with the entry for an event. I find that much quicker, like "drinks 4pm" instead of a couple of dozen clicks.
At home, I often fiddle with my launcher screen (ssLauncher - you can really fine-tune where everything is to 5 pixels), and the pen makes that much easier. I then typically just keep using the pen anyway, because it seems to glide over the glass more easily than my finder. I have very oily skin, and the peen keeps those prints off the screen.
I use it very often for shopping lists, and for other situations where I'd use a pen and paper. Last week for example I was out with one of my gfs friends, and she asked me. To remind my gf to give her a call about something. Perfect for the spen.

I use the pen all the time. I much prefer it to using fingers unless I'm on the move or writing messages. Then I use dual thumbs.
I actually feel like I get more precision with the s-pen, and I like not getting finger prints all over the screen.

I don't use the S Pen much as it is too thin for my large hands however I use my Wacom pen regularly with it to take hand written notes as it is like using a real pen. Cannot work without it now.
As a side note for those of you with messy handwriting, try an app in the market called 7Notes, you will seriously be surprised with its accuracy in recognising your handwriting and converting it to digital text. Once you use it, you will find there's no going back!!! Currently its only in Beta, cannot wait for the full version.

Wow, this Is amazing. I've never used a handwriting tool that's actually worked before. my handwriting Is awful, and this works perfectly. I used it to write this post!
Edit: I've been playing with it for 5 minutes and I've gone back to swiftkey x. It works great, it's just that even the best handwriting recognition is still a bit awkward. Especially when it comes to editing your posts.

i love being able to annotate screenshots, and do so several times per day. this is the main feature that tipped the scales for me away from getting a Nexus.
otherwise, my handwriting is recognized quite well by the software, but i hardly ever bother with that
I don't use it much for writing, I find typing is far quicker and easier. My had writing isn't that bad on paper, but it looks like a child's scribblings on the Note.
I do use it for drawing though, which I'm getting quite good at. And often just for normal usage instead of my finger... no real reason for that, I just sometimes notice myself doing it.
I use it mainly for taking screenshots and to give my fingers a break. Installed this app called Freenote today which seems to be better than S Memo feature-wise. Will be using S Pen more with it from now on.
Also the pen is mightier than the finger when playing games like Fruit ninja.
