[Q] A couple of things - Kyocera Zio M6000

Hi, hi. I don't recall if this is my first post or not, but my original intent was to post on the developer's forum. I then found out I couldn't. So I'll post here and include a couple of questions/comments I have.
1. Have you noticed that XDA looks like a really happy dude puking the first letter of the alphabet? (That's totally an aside, just getting it out of the way.)
2. Due to some ridiculousness, I now have two Cricket Zios. One of them is working, the other one not. I've had the old one for a few months now and all this time I've been wondering what the heck to do with it. To specify: It went nuts when I tried the update on it (it originally had 1.6) and the corporate store flashed it when I brought it to them. Now when you turn it on, it shows the Android android and tells you to touch it (with the disembodied hand appearing, moving over it, then disappearing, as it's supposed to), but it ignores all input. Have to pull out the battery to shut it off, even. I can then turn it on (so at least I know the End Call button works and I *think* I've tried some combinations that work) and go through the process all over again. The good thing is that I now have a spare battery (go, me). In reading all the threads where developers are unsure of certain things, like whether or not the trackball can light up and whatnot, I'm wondering if it might be worth it for me to take the damn thing apart and take detailed pictures. At the very least, people would be able to see chipsets, individual chips, connections, lights, etc. Does anyone think this would be worth the effort? And, of course, complete loss of the device, though possibly I could use parts in other projects. (The screen, for instance, might be cheap, but it'd be REAL handy used as a miniature second/third monitor like those Liliput monitors.)
3. As a Linux user that doesn't give a damn whether a Windows OS can communicate with my microSD card, is there a reason I should not just format the entire card to something better than fat32?
4. As we all know, the trackball input on the Zio sucks like the Spaceball 1. Could this be improved by replacing the ball itself? It feels cheap anyway and I'm wondering if I could, for instance, take the ball out of a MyTouch 3G and put it in my Zio.

The FCC already has detailed pictures of the zio available, so that would be a waste of a phone.
If your 2nd phone doesnt work, you can always send it to me as a guinea pig phone -- it _really_ would be helpful to have an extra phone to develop with (provided I could get it working -- no guarantees but I'd be willing to try for the following reasons)-- being as any release, mod or anything for that matter I wish to test for you guys has to be done on my main phone, which Im sure any tester could tell you, is a major pain in the ass. lol. So if you really wanna help the cause, that would help me greatly
As for formatting the SDcard -- dont. Your phone saves all data to FAT. The only thing you _may_ wish to do is partition 512Mb off as an ext3 and use link2SD to symlink ur apps to the ext partition.
As for the trackball -- you can try taking it out (if you have the right screwdriver for it), cleaning the contact points, and putting it back together -- that might make it respond better (as I have no problems with my trackball.).
Hope that helps.
~Cheers!

Thank you very much! And I'll totally donate to you the phone (I appreciate a lot of what you've done anyway). Would you mind getting it without the battery?

Don't mind at all -- it'll be plugged in 100% of the time.
Not home atm, but Send me a pm m8.
Sent from my Zio using XDA App

Nice! as an openZio user I thank you

@ SilasMortimer :
Any updates m8? Havent heard from you in a while.
Cheers.

Heya. Sorry I disappeared. I kind of forgot to come back. I think I need to change my settings so I get email notifications.
It'll be sent soon.

This phone is driving me nuts

This phone is making me like...crazy!
and this is why:
I synct some playlists to the phone with windows media player 10, suddenly all playlists on my diamond are empty.
When i removed all the playlists on windows media player 10 to sync them again, it deleted all my songs!
now i got all my songs onto the device again, and wanted to alter 1 playlist, it took windows media player 6 minutes, to just alter, replace, 1 pooping playlist!\
Its not possible to remove a playlist created in the touchflo music player itself.
Not able to select it and then delete it.
Half of the icons in the games folder are ****ed up, we already have a thread with solutions(i tried all of them), but none of them worked.
And the performance, even with the tlr rom or whatever the name was, the diamond still goes slow!
And the battery depletes quickly, with auto attach off, and incoming beam off.
Cant receive a file with bluetooth, with incoming beam on or off, it keeps saying my pc is a new device and asks if i want to set a password, no matter if i set a password or not, it goes back to the menu, and still says my pc is a new device
And i used a mod of the diamond tweaks thread, to auto lock my diamond when the screen goed off.
Well, 1/5 times, it autounlocks itself when i turn the screen back on. not good...
And finally, the opera browser is sometimes not doing what i want. sometimes goes to a random place on the page, if i move and let the stylus go, it moves back to that random page, to fix this i need to quit, then restart opera.
This happens about 1/5 times i use opera.
Is this where i payed 481 euro's for...?
Any ideas how to fix this sh!t is welcome, i already did a hard reset to try getting rid of some problems.

what do you mean?
theres a whole list of bad things there.
btw: forgot to mention that the diamond stylus made some nasty scratches on the screen when wiping over the screen in opera to scroll page, or goto next photo in touchflo, ect.
Got a protector included for that.
Install a fresh rom, I don't have any of your problems.
I use bluetooth a lot:
Sending files (goes hell fast), don't want to use cable when using .cab files here
For my parrot
For use as a modem (have reached 120kbyte/second) when online with phone!
All flawless.
I have very very good results with HTC's own new rom update via e-club.
TLR nr. 2 was quite buggy at my phone.
GOod luck!

what have you got now may i ask?
Humbly returned to my previous P535.
I must admit that apart from Diamond, there is currently not many devices to choose from on the market... Was thinking about getting P750, but still unsure...
Xperia scares me, mainly because of the unusual screen resolution (dunno how all the apps will handle it) and that also is supposed to be made by HTC...
Maybe Diamond Pro will not suffer from these newborn diseases that my Diamond had - will see...
i think im going for the iphone 3g. will be expensive though...
the touch diamond really disappoints me...

Use the hardware buttons beneath the screen. You can navigate to the playlist you want to delete, and hold the 'enter' button to get the menu to get the 'right mouse button menu'.
Using your fingers it is impossible as it automatically selects the playlist if you press it. No menu will pop up.

What do you mean? It will be much cheaper than the Diamond.
I wonder if you're expecting to install applications on that phone, or do any customization...
Mwahahahahahha!!!!
Another Winer! XD
I'd give this post 5/5 for creativity, 6/5 for whining and -1 for usefullness ^^
you can almost FEEEL that you joined only after buying the phone, and I'd guess that it's your first WM one..
Anyway, regarding your problems..
If your phone really is that bad, it's probably broken (pre-production, grey, some dimwit dropped it in the shop or any other reason). In any case, return it by warranty, and get a new one..
Having so many people love this phone, and being able to fix the issues.. and only you and a handful of others run around whining.. Surely it's obvious that it's either a lack of hands.dll or a simple hardware failure..
I mean you should be smart enough to grasp it.... ermm.. right?
Cheers
P.S. Oh, and please don't be offended by this post.. It was mainly inspired by your post anyway, but it was written half-jokingly as I couldn't really answer seriously to that amount of QQ
@ 205_laCoste...
You're my hero.
Had a lot of trouble removing two playlists, but using the hardware buttons solved it right away....
Thank You!
I'm ready to throw my diamond out the window, for pretty much the same reasons. I paid way too much money to have so many problems. And I shouldn't have to flash a new rom. It should be good to go out of the box.
Before I'm also accused of being a whiner, there is a plethora of posts of people having the same problems....with no solutions. The bluetooth issue is a biggie. I tweak my phone to enhance it, but I shouldn't have to be a programmer to simply make it function properly. To suggest that is just arrogant.
There are things that I absolutely love about this phone, but simply as a phone it sucks.
most of the time it is not the fault of the phone but the person
using it.
a lot of people have come here after having a normal phone and
dont understand how to use this one.
treat it more like a computer than a phone.you dont have to be
a programer you just have to know how to read a thread and
follow the directions.
if you have a 1.37 rom you need to upgrade it to a 1.93.
1.37 is crap.okay it shouldnt have been but it was that why
it was upgraded to 1.93.
if you still dont get it then sell the phone.go buy a fruit
phone and get ripped off just like all the other sheep out there.
I have to stand up for nursie here. I've returned my diamond several months ago (yeah, it was driving me nuts) and am happily living with my P750... these offenses are absolutely not necessary and untrue as well as uncritically extolling the device - gee, it's just another PDA

I have to agree, to an extent.
It's generally accepted on here that the Diamond is badly configured out of the box, which is why new users are recommended to flash a new ROM. This is not a good thing, although it's great we have such a good community of chefs to help solve the problem.
What's less well accepted is that much of the HTC software on the Diamond is slow and awkward. I'm talking about TF3D and the HTC dialer in particular, get rid of them and you can make the Diamond a great little phone just like your P750.

I upgraded to 1.93. And I'm quite proficient at reading and researching. I'm also very proficient with current technology. I get it. What you don't get is that a consumer spending big bucks on this phone shouldn't have to resort to advanced tweaks (which I understand, BTW...you won't find me here asking newbie questions) in order to bring the phone up to basic performing standards.
Again.....yours is a fine example of ignorance masking itself as arrogance.

Getting into Bootloader Mode (without camera button)

Not sure anyone will be able to help with this -- it's a weird set of circumstances. But maybe someone's got an idea.
I've got a Vogue that the camera button has stopped responding on. When I press it, it gives no resistance, like the button/spring has just fallen out or moved. I'd like to take it to the sprint techs and see if they can pop it open and make sure everything lines up again (this is, after all, the reason for keeping an equipment protection plan).
However, I'm not going to bring it in running Android, so I need to flash it back to stock. How to do that? Bring up bootloader mode by holding, you guessed it, the camera button (and volume down) at startup.
I know that the RUU application can trigger a reboot into bootloader mode from WinMo -- but I'm sure it has to be hooked up to activesync to do so, so that's not much use.
Is there some other way to get from Android to bootloader? Or... is there any other way to... sort of sideload a WinMo ROM from linux, without going through the bootloader mode? (I seriously doubt that part, but I'm grasping here.)
Or is there another way to get into the bootloader that I haven't thought of? I guess I should ask this in less specific vogue forums. Searching has provided me no clues.
Thanks for any ideas.

OK, so clearly my line about searching doing no good was premature. I'm a little embarrassed now. (I failed to search this particular forum, so I feel like a heel.)
Then again, that thread doesn't do me any good... it just confirms the bad.
Anyway, thanks. So that sounds like a pretty firm no. Ugh, stepping down from 5 buttons to 4 on this phone is not a pleasant proposition. Even with the camera button, it's pretty cramped.
The EnterBootloader.exe tool (which I assume is the same as BootLoader.cab in that thread) should be able to do it... unfortunately, I do not have the disassembly chops to figure out how to replicate its functionality.

hey, makk - can you open the case enough one time to get to bootloader, flash to winmo, then take it in? you don't need it to work forever, right? just enough to get it repaired? heck, even if you shorted it closed it might work.
Yeah, that's the option I'm considering now. Just need to pop the case open... which doesn't look like tons of fun. Anyone have any advice on that count? I actually have that tiny torx screwdriver, but that's about as far as I've gotten.
Edit: Searched and found a nice looking guide. See, I can search!
Edit2: Popped it open, jammed a paperclip into the camera button, got the bootloader up, back to WinMo, easy peasy. (OK, actually, horribly frightening. I hate ribbon cables.) Thanks, guys.
Though I no longer need it, building a linux EnterBootloader executable would be pretty nice -- especially since kernel updates are a pretty common occurrence -- it'd be nice to have a utility that'd grab the voguimg.nbh, put it on the sd card, and initiate the reboot all in one fell swoop. (...after doing some pretty thorough checks to make sure you're ready to go messing with your boot partition, of course.)
I took a look at the executable in ida, hoping that it might be simple enough for me to start to get a grasp of (that'd be very simple, for the record)... it was not. That program is the purest essence of confusion (at least to this assembly noob).
Anyway, if anyone has disassembling knowledge around here, and wants to give it a look, it might be pretty simple. (It also might be not simple -- I don't really have much way of knowing.) It's attached here.

[Hardware] G1 screen issue

Greetings,
When I would try and wake my G1, the screen would not always turn on. I would have to go through the process of hitting end, flipping the screen open while hitting menu repeatedly. Sometimes it would work, mostly not. If I waked the phone, with or without the screen turning on, I could use the touchscreen. Wasn't entirely sure what I was doing of course.
Another issue was the screen "dying" while awake. Example: using navigation and the color and light would drain off the screen.
So all of this leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the cable that connects the screen to the phone body. Has anyone opened up the phone and looked around inside? Would be interested in a fix so I can use it as a remote for the house haha
Any help is greatly appreciated!

What rom are you using in your phone?
Anyway this is a software problem, no hardware.
My phone had this "problem" too with some roms.
In general I had this problem with heavy roms (for example hero roms) where swap is enable.
It did it on CM6, cm5, super d, super e, and straight up stock. Between each i would completely wipe data and cache, wipe and repair ext, wipe data again and flash.
If you believe that it is still a software problem, I have no problem trying again
EDIT: another thing is that when booting, the Tmobile G1 screen won't always show. Need to manipulate the screen to it to show.
Sent from my s=off HTC Glacier using XDA App.
If it goes on and off as you move it around on the boot/recovery screen then it is probably a hardware problem.
It's a fairly involved process to change it. You basically have do completely disassemble the phone. A little google searching can find you the factory disassembly guide (i'd post it if I knew it was ok or not).
No worries about posting a link
I'll give it a go! Thanks for the tip good sir. Will post results once I get around to it
Cheers

Just want to mention that I'm having a very similar problem with a second-hand G1. Just as the OP did, I tried several different ROMs to see if it was a software issue (stock, CyanogenMod 5, Froyo for Trout, now on TheOfficial DS). An additional symptom that mine is suffering is that the screen tends to go blank if the keyboard is flipped open quickly, which contributes to the "hardware problem" theory.
At some point in the near future I'm going to have a go at it using the service manual. Sorry can't post URLs... it's http colon slash slash mikechannon dot net/PDF Manuals/HTC%20Dream%20SM%20%28A04%29.pdf
I don't have big hands so the G1 is the perfect size phone for me...hoping to get this working reliably and then to hand off my Motorola Milestone to the husband, that thing is humongous to me. (Ironically spouse is an engineer with a Master's degree and a lot of experience with electronics but I do all the phone maintenance.)
After some minor surgery, seems OK now
I went up to "disconnect the display FPC" step on page 32 of the service manual. Then I reassembled the phone while trying to make sure that all the cables were plugged in as tightly as possible. It's rather fiddly so please make sure you have good fine manual control. (This was my first time disassembling a phone.) The "screen blanking" problem seems to be cured now although I am trying to be gentle when opening/closing the keyboard. At least it doesn't randomly go blank by itself any more.
My father had given me a set of electronic screwdriver bits for Chinese New Year, perfect timing, thanks Pa You will need the Torx 5 and 6 and a Philips 0 bit. I also used the flathead bits as levers as I didn't have the plastic lever in the official HTC manual, so the edges of the housing are a bit ugly now
Well done! I will give that a go! Congrats on getting yours working. If I remember to actually try, I'll post my results.

[REQ] Need a devs assistance with PDS file (touch screen issue FIXED)

Hey guys, remember those who used Tenfar's custom Recovery to format and partition their internal SD? Remember how it damages the touch screen response on the bottom half inch of the screen? Mine is fixed!!
I don't know what it does, but that particular function damages the PDS file. I've received help from a person who cannot be named and my AT&T Atrix is 100% fixed. Touch screen works flawlessly again, no Wifi issues, no Bluetooth issues and System Updates work fine.
He is working on scrubbing my personal data (serials, etc) from the PDS file and I'll be able to share it with the entire community. But if there's a dev out there who can contact me specifically I can send both the damaged and corrected file right now. I need help figuring out how to apply these serials to a blank PDS file so others in the community can fix this problem as well.
Out of respect, I will not name the person who assisted me as it compromises their work security. They went out on a huge limb and graciously assisted me without any reason other than they're a kick ass person with a huge heart. I'm no programmer by any stretch, but if anyone could assist me I know that there's about a dozen others (maybe more) who really need help fixing this issue. Someone please PM me if they can help!!
i messed up mine too...
any chance to get any help/solution?
One thing you could do is diff the two files to see if they're different. I don't know what the file is either though. Can you ask him how he fixed it? Also can you run the program strings against it? One other thing, is this fixed on changed partitions our did you change them back to the default?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
currently i'm in the situation that i can only flash my device, as i cannot complete motosetup, i cannot access debug option so no adb.
i read that the partition with the pds file has been already found
100% mmcblk0p3 PDS.bin 2097152 Persistent Data Storage
(from the atris sbf thread)
would be great to know what is executed in the script of tenfar for the internal sd partitioning, but my knowledge ends here.
so i guess (i'm everything but a developer )
if could be possible to flash/restore that partition with the nvflash selective option
or integrate it in a generic sbf, or the second init will save us all or the gingerbread update...dunno
but i see we are many we touched the wrong button but i don't see any dev interested here or in the thread of tenfar's recovery
i read that psd contains unique infos like the imei so maybe none of the devs wants to release a potential cloning system...
really i don't know even if what im saying is correct

I am willing to help. This should be relatively easy to do.
in android recovery touch screen works correctly till the bottom, menu/ok button too.
the problem is in the os i guess, but damn i cannot use adb (no debug), seems that neither the early usb+shell root works for me...i can only flash using rsd
and after flashing stock rom i'm stuck at the damned motosetup
maybe are useful infos for you
god knows how i'm desperate
edit i'm reading that for old motorola phones like v3 exist a flashbackup and a psd editor, used to unlock the phones but also to revive damaged ones. maybe...
I've got my original corrupt PDS at home as well as one which has been corrected from a legit developer (can't release any of their information due to work employment security concerns).
I guarantee that it has been 100% fixed though. Bluetooth works, Wifi works, cellular data works and I was even able to upgrade from 1.26 to the latest AT&T OTA update and root everything.
When I announced this no one gave a **** so I didn't make a fuss. I know there are still a few bros with this problem though. I sent my PDS files to another member and they're looking into it. Hopefully you guys can get this working for yourselves as well!
dear friend you are promising salvation with your words, but you're not helping too much...
you gave the phone to that developer, he told what/how he solve the problem?
i understand psd is based on personal imei, so your fixed one is not working on mine etc etc
the point is that possibly your friend as legit developers has access to software to create/flash psd to the atrix.
the question is would be possible to receive the same helping hand?
there is no support in my country for this phone, and i'm not a dev.
so the only chance for me and the rest of the halfbricked people is to get the tools and the tutorial how to from you/your friend.
do you think it is possible?

Sorry, I'm not helping much? I'm NOT A DEV!!! I have no obligation to help anyone whatsoever. I lack the technical know-how to help anyone. Please don't ****ing test me.
I've begged every Atrix developer here for help - NO ONE helped other than Tenfar. And unfortunately his advice took me in a completely different direction. No one can point a finger at me for not trying my best. I was so desperate that I got another Atrix because mine was dead for over a month before it was revived.
meneomic has been working feverishly to get his Atrix working as he's encountered the same problem. I've sent him my original and damaged PDS, as well as the one which has been corrected. The strings are not in plain text format and when I viewed it in a Hex editor I found nothing useful. That's all I can do. If someone knows how to put the IMEI and other serial numbers into the fixed PDS they can write it to the appropriate block and this problem will be fixed. That's all that needs to be done... but that alludes me.
I realize there are some people who are upset that their Atrix's aren't working after messing around in the recovery menu, but I've done my best. I have literally stayed up for days working continuously on this. My wife nearly smashed both my Atrix's in frustration because of all the time I've invested in it. I've done what I could and unfortunately got no where.

bongd you say you have the 2 file corrupted and corrected, but someone had to flash somehow/somewhere into your phone. who? you or your friend? what did he use to manipulate? can you ask him or not?
second easy group of questions for every dev out there,
-not interested because no reward (for the moment)?
-not interested because impossible?
-not interested because xxxx?
i'm trying to understand please...

I sent my broken file to dev, he fixed it and I flashed it.
There was no exchange of phones, nothing special done, etc. I just used the dd command to write the fixed PDS file. How it was fixed, I an uncertain. I've tried for days and days to no avail. This is what you guys will have to figure out. I've invested too much time and already have a fixed phone which was sold to a friend.
If anything from that phone is needed for whatever reason, it's been sold to a coworker and I can obtain it any time.
ok we are talking now
the question is how did you extract that file?
i don't have adb access because after partitioning my phone failed to boot and i had to flash stock rom. now i cannot pass the motoblursetup (no wifi-no data, i'm stuck there) so cannot enable debugging

Yes you can. To bypass the motoblur activation type this when you are on the select language screen
Fn,E,Fn,E,B,L,U,R,O,F,F
Hold the Menu button to get the keyboard to pop up. That should work.
This will allow you to get to Settings > Applications and enable USB Debugging. Just make sure not to click on the wrong icon because you can't close a program once it's opened because of the bottom portion of the screen not responding.
I had to battery pull about 500 trillion times doing different things to fix this.
If you write my PDS it will fix the screen, but of course the serials will all be incorrect. And I don't know what this could do so I'd not recommend it.
mmm my phone recognizes the menu button as the bottom of the visible screen so pressing menu results in selecting the emergency call, pressing search button moves me to "next", the home or back button in the middle bottom of the visible screen...

Hold the menu button down until the keyboard pops up and give this a shot.
I'm positive you'll be able to.
Please stop the foul language. Thanks.
according to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15026407
you just have to open adb shell and run
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard-ext/pds.img
anyone backed up this partition??
I need it badly

do you have this file on your computer?

Phone Freeze , Lag, Touch screen unresponsive , Internet connection not stable

This is my second time bought an AT&T Samsung Focus, and again...it suck!!
My first Focus has the Network problem, returned it already to the seller..
Bought another one, and it gives more complicated issues...aaarrgghhh...
Phone very often Freeze , Lag when I swap between apps, Touch screen unresponsive , keyboard freeze and then suddenly typing on its own like crazy...Internet connection unstable..
I got the Focus still on Window 7, updated to 7.5 (7.10.7720.68) from Zune, thought it will fix the issues but it is not.
Can someone show me how to fix this ? Load custom ROM or whatever to make it works again? I'm going to sell this crap once it fixed
Sorry for my language..It's totally drive me crazy
I'm not aware of any 'custom ROMS' that are available for WP7 devices, since the various bottom layers have not yet been cracked, as far as I know.
That said, I'm not sure that the device is at fault, and definitely not the O/S. There are plenty of us around using the Focus (it was one of THE most popular WP7 devices ever) with no problems -- certainly not the ones you are experiencing.
Your signature/profile don't say where you are or which provider you are using -- but many of the problems you describe could be due to problems at the service provider end, not the device itself. Obviously it is frustrating when the phone does these things, but I'm not sure there is a quick fix available here for you.
BTW, this forum is for the Focus S -- there's a separate one for the original Focus unit.

Opss...Sorry... I must be crazy already
Please Mod, remove this to the Samsung Focus thread ?
I am experiencing similar issues on the original Focus and am scouring the forums for a solution.
I shall report back if I find anything.
(This post also serves as a "watch this thread" for me)

I don't know if I'm allow to continue this thread as it is on the wrong section but this concern me alot and would appreciate any fix.
I found that there's Roger Rom, what I'm thinking is if it's possible to flash it to get a new fresh Rom installed and hope the problem would gone?
I read some thread on it but still not sure what steps should I do. Also if there's thing I should aware due to flash it to non AT&T Rom, maybe that I would not be getting an official update or whatever.
As long my focus is behaving correctly that is what I'm asking since I'm only using it to get my emails as a replacement of my blackberry. It freeze alot when I type and really annoying.

You could try that. For me, I want to avoid reflashing the ROM.
I have the Rogers ROM on my phone at the moment (it was a Rogers phone) and can assure you that they do provide the official updates (although no Tango yet).
If you're comfortable with the flashing process and don't mind losing all of your data, a fresh ROM could be a bit of a blanket fix.
