[Q] "Broken" NCs on eBay? - Nook Color General

Hey guys,
Thinking about pulling the trigger on a NC, but I don't want to pay $200-$300 as I already have a Nexus S and a Nexus 1. The NC is planned to be used for light Internet browsing. I found two "broken" NCs on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/160605400390 (Edit: Description for this one says "Lines on screen")
http://cgi.ebay.com/160605383436
The listing are ending soon, but I'm afraid to pull the trigger. I dunno what could cause these units to be broken besides:
1) Battery drain/issues
2) Water damage
3) Main component damage
3.1) Video issues (added)
The XDA part of my brain is telling me that the guy is selling it because of a bad flash but...if he's smart enough to flash, he's smart enough to read XDA and fix it. Plus, I hear NCs are pretty much unbrickable.
So, what do you think? Has anyone encountered things like this before? Should I pull the trigger?
Thanks!

Why don't you ask him what is not working? NC is unbrickable (software talking) but probably they have hardware problems.

I shot the seller a question before I posted this topic, but the NCs don't look damaged. (from the outside anyway) Just figured I'd poke my head in and ask around. I'll await a response and let you all know.

See edit above on the OP.

Have you ever bought a broken used car? And the guys says "O.. only this and that is broken" then you find out its even worse then what he said. And your no mechanic. Just my two cents I've made those kind of mistakes before... its not worth it. Especially if your no "mechanic".

Not worth it!!!

The seller didn't respond to my question so I didn't bid. I wasn't planning on bidding until s/he answered my question.

I bought a broken one off eBay for a project that didn't really need the screen to work. Outside of the fact that it looked like a wolverine went crazy on the back and corners, the screen looked ok when turned off. But when you turn it on, the screen goes all white except for a few lines across the middle that appear to be displaying the UI.
Not a problem for me, but you might want to pass on these.

Already did. How'd your project go with the other NC?

Warning not to buy Flytouch 3 or clones.

For god's sake, whatever you do, don't buy:
Flytouch 3 superpad 2 (or any of its clones).
The support forum is filled with problems with the clones, too many to list.
The Ibex Flytouch 3 originals have very poor batteries, supposed to be 8000 mAh (2 x 4000), and are more like 2 x 1800. Most people are having troubles getting them to accept a charge at all.
Their internal GPS is locked to China, SOME people have managed to unlock them by spending a couple of hours deleting caches, rebooting, trying to re-fix the satellites, repeat until working or give up. MOST people still have not managed to unlock the GPS from China.
Market ONLY shows the free apps (something to do with fake sim numbers being too fake and illegitimate). When you are sent to market from an email, website, or even the tablets OWN auto update service, it won't show the app you are looking for.
They MAY appear to be cheap value-for-money Android tablet alternatives; trust me, they ARE NOT. Save up more money and get a proper named brand tablet.
Update:
My Flytouch 3 is no more, at about 4 days old the charging battery exploded, melting the FT3 and scorching the computer desk.
I urge anyone thinking of buying one of the Ibex Flytouch 3's, or its clones (Superpad 2 or 3) - DON'T!

People are always trying to find ways of getting a similar item for cheaper prices - I know, I did!.
Oh it's you Fluffbutt, I saw your whole song and dance on apad.tv the other day, not surprized they banned you. First you mess around with your battery config, then god only knows what else you did and then you blow up your tablet. Then claim it blew up on your desk.
Baring in mind no evidence what so ever anything really happened. Then you claimed that you burried your tablet under a load of used kitty litter, so couldn't show anyone the pictures to prove it, not surprized no one believes you. Shame on you.

i own this and for what i use it for its actually not bad updates are often and like all android devices its getting better with each one!
mind you my phone is faster ha
I got banned from there because they didn't want anyone warned of the faulty batteries, they're the most fanatic people over their FT3's.
So you assume I did a whole lot of things and it's my fault it exploded. You can assume anything.
"mess around with your battery config," - ChinaGrabber tell you to go to that forum for help, and do what's posted there. Now I'M to blame for doing just that?
It got buried under kitty litter because the fumes from burnt lithium batteries are toxic.
Shame on me?? you make assumptions!

*Mod Edit* let's keep it clean and keep the name calling to a minimum.
Alright, everybody chill out. No name callings.
@Fluffbutt: Pics, or GTFO. Seriously.
@PassingExpert: A one hit wonder from you? While I can't agree with either of you, I'd cut down on the name calling, because you aren't going to make many friends with that.

What makes you think I feel any need to prove this to anyone here?
It happened. Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant to it happening and irrelevant to me..
my 32gb iBex Flytouch3 works perfectly. Would recommend iBex Flytouch3 (real FT3) to my friends.
I bought flytouch3 from taobao.com. It cost almost 250 USD.
It may be the most expensive one in taobao, but it works good.
It can standby at least 6 hrs, and the GPS works in Taiwan.
Market can show all apps including the charged apps.
I just bought one yesterday from chinagrabber, shame on me? From what I've gathered the information this is the best and most supported chinese tablet there is..
Yes another classic example of somebody not doing their homework before buying something and then blindly attacking it with a soldering iron and hacksaw.
I'm more than satisfied with mine, it's not the fastest piece of kit, but for €150 it's certainly worth the money if you have a good working knowledge of Android and now how to fix a few quirks.
If you read around the forums, there is support for all of them. I have yet to have found an issue that couldn't be remidied in one way shape or form. I bought mine for $150 US shipped. I'm no knocking Ibex. Just merely stating that their pad isn't the only option. Open minded-ness is what I'm getting at. I've heard a lot of bad things about ChinaGrabber's return policy's etc., and that left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted an inexpensive pad with some support on the US side (I.e warranty issues). I know I could have purchased something else, but this was what I wanted.

I've now been playing with my FT3 couple of days and I'm very happy with it, with Tim5a rom everything works, Market (it shows paid apps if I buy them from my Android cellphone). GPS works well out of the box, it's fast, Youtube, Flash all working. Battery life is very good, I don't keep it on standby as it does eat the battery even without wifi off. If you've ever used a Android phone this feels like home and the performance is the same. Resistive screen just gets a little bit more to get used to compared to capacitive but it's really responsive. Videos play very nicely, only tried 720p but all worked without a single lag.
Hey this thread scared me at start but then it looks like it ended up very good.
cuz i'm waiting for mine to arrive and i wonder is there any complete guide how to speed it up and ect..?
Thanks in advance

Don't.
Market ONLY shows the free apps not to mention all the other problems (something to do with fake sim numbers being too fake and illegitimate). For YOUR OWN sake don't buy this piece. Really if you want an ANDROID tablet then save your money and buy a legitimate Android Tablet from a well known manufacturer. It's the WORST money I've ever spent in my life. PLEASE don't waste your time. And if you do and are satisfied with a cheap poor generic excuse for an android spending hours upon end of your life downloading and installing firmware, then more power to you, have fun. I just wish I would have saved my money than to have given it to scam artists or try to get help from those who need to help sale more CRAPWARE by saying its all volunteer. Really really real. (Now watch how I get called names and treated like dirt for posting this on a thread that is titled: Warning not to buy Flytouch 3 or clones.) It's crazy how easy it is to get caught up by weirdos at crappad tv who act like they are helping the world or something not following any of there own rules. Please DON'T be fooled by the posts that follow this saying how good it is. Believe me, it is not. Save a little more money even if its just 100 or 200 more. Get a LEGITIMATE ANDROID TABLET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2nd Nexus returned....refund time.

I'm sorry to say my second Nexus 7 despite initially looking good has now popped the left side of its glass and displayed a stuck green sub-pixel. I'm really disappointed as I think its a fantastic device apart from the poor QC. I may try and buy later if I see on this forum that ASUS have got there act together.
Good luck to all who are trying to get a decent unit.
Poor QC, overinflated expectations for a entry level device, or a newly registered shill poster.
I replaced mine through the play store and its perfect. Maybe I just got lucky.

Here is a thought... A crazy one I know but here you go....
Instead of constantly replacing a newly released device because of minor screen lift that does not effect normal use how about taking a chill pill, breathing in and out and relaxing?
Mine has screen lift and it still works great! Me? I will wait a few months and replace it once the flaw is fixed in manufacturing and there has been enough time to filter out all the flawed still in stock versions...
When I picked up my first one and it had screen lift, I was disappointed and angry. When I exchanged for a second one and it had screen lift and a non-functioning touch screen, I was just angry. When I picked up my third one with screen lift I just shrugged. Yesterday I picked up my fourth one with screen lift and a loudly popping speaker and I just laughed :silly:
There must be bad lots or something?
On my first unit I bought at staples and everyone I know local has no issues and no replacements. I have been and will keep looking for issues on them but so far so good.

Yeah, what is up with people, expecting a product without defects? That is just weird.
Hopefully those people get filtered out of the gene pool and we can live in a peaceful future were defects are accepted as normal.

I'll bet that what actually happens is you'll send yours in, and you'll receive a refurb with EXACTLY the same problem. But you're so Zen-like about the whole thing, you'll just smile and go through the process over and over and never lose your cool. I envy your calm.
Of course, you'll have to hope the defect is obvious immediately, because every time you connect a new device to your Google account (and granted, one should put a hard limit on how many defects one accepts before considering the product to be junk) you'll use up a Google Music activation. And we can only deactivate 10 devices in a year. A big deal? Maybe, if you go through freaking defective products like this trying to get one that works decently.
Oh, and that will be another device that shows up in your list in Google Play that you can't delete. You'll remove it from the menu, but it'll be sitting there, taunting you.
Oh, and maybe you open an ebook on the defective that's limited to 3 devices, and then you can't open the book on your new one. And maybe the "remove from device" option isn't there, so you have to go through Google to get things fixed. But hey, relax, right?
If you're happy to sit on a defective device for months with the hope that it'll be better fixed later, knock yourself out. For some of us, the Nexus 7 is a special device, being the only Nexus tablet, and we just want one without defects. This whole preachy routine really does get a bit old.

Here is a rational thought.
How about a device should not have a so called minor screen lift issue. That moves around when you touch you the screen. That when you pick up the device and hold it the damn thing feels like it is falling apart and about to simply break.
Only a fool would accept that and keep the device. It doesn't affect normal use? What are you smoking? A touch screen device with a defective screen doesn't effect normal use? So you're going to keep a bad crappy device for a couple of months because hell I don't know why. So everybody else should keep their as well.
These devices currently have a ton of QC issues. Fact. People will report and discuss them. The only trolls are the people that keep saying people reporting issues etc must be trolling.

Guess how many devices I have linked to my account? lol
Seven GNex phones and two N7s. I've returned 4 N7s but one of them had a broken touch screen so I couldn't actually set it up and on the other the screen lift was so bad that I didn't bother powering it up. Crazy stuff. I honestly don't know why I keep coming back to the Nexus brand after my recent experiences.
Here's an actual rational though.
Only a fool would fail to read and call someone out for something opposite of what they said.
CHILL OUT, COUNT TO 10 before you make yourself look like an idiot again. He never suggested you accept a flaw, he said that repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different result is not the best idea. Obviously you want the device, but instead of complaining about it here, which will do absolutely freaking nothing, why not take a breath and waiting a week? Rapid fire returns sure haven't worked for you yet.
Yawn....
Every device has growing pains the the N7 is no different... Google botched the pre-orders and they have a manufacturing issue to correct...
I will TRY and make this simple...
Let say Google had 10 million produced before they correct the manufacturing process / defect.. Now lets say they sold 5 million... That leaves 5 million defective units still on shelves / in stock...
You can continue to exchange it until the cows come home and guess what? Your replacement is going to come from the defective (read: in stock) pile until the defect is corrected and the originally shipped (read: defective) units have been depleted...
Save yourself the headache, stress, tantrums and wait a few months for the issue to be resolved and the fixed units to become the in stock norm...
If the unit has an issue that prevents it from functioning then that's another matter... Slight screen raise is not one of those... Keep on replacing it and keep getting the same (read: originally manufactured defect) unit in the mail... It's your headache not mine and I'm not the one throwing a tantrum in an online forum..
I will wait a few months and exchange mine once Google has resolved the issue and the in stock tablets are that of the fixed variety...

[Q] completely new here, new 'used' tab, failed to mount everything!

Hello. Yes, I'm a noob. I watched video, and also have been trying to find a solution for last three days. I just really am unsure where to even start!!.... :silly:
I just purchased this Samsung Galaxy Tab:
ebay. com/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-w-Otter-Box-Charger-3G-SPH-P100-/140863908008?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&nma=true&si=zdNnh%2F8hBkAfClqVXbmhnrVFeI4%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
(Sorry I can not link without spaces)
I have no SD card.
This is Sprint version of Tab, though I'm not sure if that is still attached to the tab.
I do not know if this is rooted (item description does not say anything about that, but I'm guessing it is..)
Received it, charged it, tried to turn it on, and it loops the glowing Samsung boot screen.
I tried to load in recovery mode and the attached image is the screen that I get. fails to mount anything!
(again tried to link to image also but not allowed )
I downloaded both kies and odin but can"t seem to connect the tab to the PC? I have never used any of these programs and was just not expecting to need to so soon.
I'm not trying to do anything fancy just yet, just want to be able to turn the tab on!!
I have searched these forums, and others, youtube, can't seem to find my exact problem and getting to be at wit's end..
I used to be pretty tech savvy but haven't done much dealings in last few years so rusty. And I have never had any kind of smart phone or tab before and so I'm just a bit nervous on where to start or to do anything because I think it is good that it at least still turns on?? Don't want to worsen the problem.
I am just between trying to resolve this matter, if it is possible or if nothing is possible, attempting to use the ebay buyer protection but i'd rather it not come to that! (also why I haven't made any changes just yet)
I do not have any other communication device at the moment, was kind of relying on this tab for work, and don't have time or money to spend waiting for that to go through plus a replacement unless I have absolutely no choice.. :crying:
I would be eternally grateful for any help in what direction to go. If I could JUST get a jump start I think I tend to pick things up alright.. as far as development goes. Just off to a bad start with this tab and pretty please if you don't mind give me some reassurance (and maybe some links) that it will be okay :victory::highfive:
Probably has been rooted. Boot into recovery ( power volume up ). Press vol up and power. Once the tab starts, keep your finger on volume up and quit the power button. Once you are in recovery, take a picture of the screen and post here.

You may want to contact the seller before raising buyer protection.
Maybe he is willing to take it back or willing to refund you some money, then let you play with it.
I hope it is not a case of bad NAND chip.

I have contacted him, though he doesn't seem to understand what is the problem either. I definitely would prefer to arrange something with him I just don't even know my options right now if that makes sense. He said he hadn't had this problem so I don't know.. because I have not done anything with it myself but open the mail and plug it in. If it was working for him correctly, the chip wouldn't be bad would it?
He had photos of the tab on running screens in his listing. Seems to be the same one.
I guess was trying to see if I even had a chance at it working regardless. I am on a very limited budget so its already been an inconvenience, but thats the risk I take buying second hand I suppose. Just trying to make the best of it any which way. I just have no idea what this screen says about the condition of the tab..
I have no ill will toward the seller just trying to find best resolution.
I'm not opposed at playing around with it, as long as I would actually have a good chance of it actually working and had a clue where to start.
Otherwise I would probably like to return it. Like I said, going the buyer protection route is worst case scenario to me. And I would not use the buyer protection after altering the programming in any way. That is also part of why I have not tried anything so far. Don't want to totally break or brick it.
I just want to turn it on. I actually hadn't even had the notion of playing with any of it whatsoever until I found I had a problem, and started researching it
or if it is fixable . (which I still do not know)
I think I have decent ethics,, mostly I'm just trying to figure out what is wrong with the tab, both for myself and / or the seller if we do happen to return the tab :fingers-crossed:
Thank you!!
I am sure you have the right ethics.
What we are worried is if he hasn't got one.
How do you know the picture is of this tab, and was the condition right before the sell?
If he is genuine, there can be a compromise. Either he take it back, or take it back to fix it and send you again (after sufficiently proof to you that it is now running, with video of him flipping it front and back next to the TV news or something, hahaha, pointing the same scratches and marks on the tab he is holding), or refund you a little money.
But if he is unwilling to compromise, and you would like to try fixing it yourself and be a good guy, then bite the bullet and try and prepare to bear the loss.

Ah thank you anyway! I am definitely picking up what you're putting down. He has great feedback, 100% positive, or else I probably would not have ordered it, though this seems to be the only electronic type sale he's made. We will see how it goes. I believe its the same device because it included the otter box and I saw no others like it. There are virtually no scratches on it, one tiny one I found near volume buttons, but that is it. And the smear on otterbox in photo seems to match. Though there's no box on the tab in the photos in which it is running properly, they do seem to be on the same carpet as the others.
OHHH ebay I forgot why I shyed away from that website. I really was trying to be very discretionary in ordering the thing but I guess it doesn't always make a difference hahah I almost wondered if he possibly had taken the photos, then tried to wipe his data before sending, and that is where something went wrong. Who knows! I am waiting for his response to the email with photo I posted here.
Actually its relieving just to talk to someone who gives a hoot about it any which way. :highfive:
Really hope can work something out.
If you decide or have to keep this device, can you, at least, get the seller to tell you what recovery and what o/s was installed on your tab?

Thanks for suggestion. He is actually corresponding with me a little bit at a time. So I just asked him specifically what you just asked, and a few other questions regarding the tab's past, will update as soon as I find out. It is certainly more difficult with such little knowledge of the history of the item. I did receive confirmation from him that it was rooted. Nothing beyond that so far, however.
But hey on the lighter side of the situation! Haha, My trusty ol' horoscope ( -__- ) popped up and it says:
You're more in tune with the tech world than usual and now is a good time to price out gadgets for later consumption. You may want to look into stuff that doesn't quite make sense to you yet. :good:
That's a good "sign" right?
Are you sure it's not an horoscope written by the seller?

No otter box on the one running properly!
Kind of a clue that it was an older photo?
why would he take out the otter box and run it and take a photo of it?
I am calling foul here.
He must confess and take it back.

Well, it actually isn't in the otter box for most of the photos in listing... but that's still a good point... I tried to link to the listing but being a newbie I can't post links. Just realized he is from a town named Brick.. go figure! I don't know if he'll take it back or not..because he listed no returns. So you think the tab is likely not fixable? And I may have been ripped off? Wow what a bummer....
Now wondering if there's a time limit on the buyer protection if that may be part whats taking so long.. dragging it out. As far as that goes, never used it before, but I have no feedback, just started a new account recently because I hadn't used it in 5 + years and could not remember my old one. And his 100% positive feedback, I don't know if I would have a chance anyway
If they take that in consideration..
He probably did write the horoscope. jokes on me i guess..
If you have to keep the Sprint tab, you might want to restock-it back to Gingerbread 2.3. See the following thread, if you have any questions, don't be shy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275031&highlight=odin+drivers
after seeing the ebay link you PM me, I do think he has reason to take photo of the tab running out of the otter box.
Initially I thought his shots was with the otter encasing the tab, except for the one that it is running. Apparently all of them are with the otter off, but the one running has no otter nearby.
Well, like in my PM, if you can go download mode, there is still chance to get it running.
The most extreme case is with a broken NAND chip, some have removed the NAND (it was glued on, can you believe that) and still run from microSD card.
There are ways, as long as it still boots to download mode/recovery.
Soon it will be your call....
Before removing the nand chip, he should try to restock like I said before and as shown in the thread link I posted.

Yeah, I am sure he know. I already PM him, apparently the same link as yours.
the NAND removal is the last, only if it is proven to be bad.
I forgot to mention that he should include the pit file and repartition the device, just in case.
well i haven't heard again from seller. No matter which way I go it is going to take some time and energy but I would rather not direct it toward dealing with an argument, so going to try to direct all that more positively and give this a go.
Thanks for all the advice for sure!
I am sure I will end up with some more questions at some point. Though, in spite of the fact that I don't think I should HAVE to do all this right away, as I do, I still feel okay about succeeding.. :fingers-crossed:

So I have performed the tasks as posted, and made some progress (I think?), though the tab is still stuck on Samsung screen when start up normally.
Now when I load it in recovery mode I get this screen::
If you just Odin the ef17 using rodderick guide, you shouldn't even have cwm 4.0 I think...
Need someone to confirm.
Are you past that point and going for ics?

Screen Died (and I'm unlocked) - Suggestions?

I'm on Cromi-X and last night the screen just died. No warning or other issues were noted. My wife was in the middle of a game of PVZ2 and it stopped working, She assumed that the battery had just hit 0%. I have been on Cromi-X for about 5 weeks and had zero problems - the tablet was running just fine. It's still running fine, with an HDMI cable and dock, the tablet is perfectly useable. So now for suggestions.
1) Is there any point in going through the effort of returning the tablet to stock and sending it back to Asus (hoping that they will honor the warranty)? Obviously unlocking and rooting aren't going to cause a hardware failure like this, but their language is pretty clear that unlocking voids the warranty regardless of whether or not this has anything to do with the failure.
2) In a sad coincidence, my second TF701T was damaged yesterday in a car accident (yes, I actually lost two tablets the same day). In this case, the problem seems to be just the digitizer as the display looks perfect below the cracked glass, but I know that replacements for qty=1 aren't really an option. That one wasn't unlocked by the way (too bad they weren't reversed). This one may get covered by insurance since the other driver ran a red light and smashed into the car. However, I might end up with a functional LCD available to use on the other one (I'm guessing that the digitizer is probably fine). I realize that this is a tricky repair.
3) Are there any known problems anyone has heard of about screens going dead like this? Is there a connector that could have worked its way loose or anything like that?
What do you folks think I should try? If #1 is a 0% chance of getting Asus to fix under warranty, then I'd rather not waste the time and money on round-trip freight. On the other hand, if there is a chance, I'd be screwing myself by opening the tablet to look for something loose or fixable on the connection to the screen which definitely would void the warranty.
Thanks in advance.

I have something I have just discovered 2 days ago.... When I was playing real racing 3, my tablet turned off as the battery got discharged. I connected the charger and turned the tablet on, then all I could see was gliches on the screen. The colors were hazy. And the touchscreen was not usable. I think it is a hardware issue because it did not affect only android but also the asus logo that appears before loading the os. I tried to reboot several times in vain. Fortunatlely, I found out how to get rid of those glistches. Very simple: when the os boots, I lock the screen then unlocked it. Yeah very weird!!! the problem was reproduced as well as the solution... However, I dont know if it happens only when the tablet goes off while gaming or does it happen every time the tablet gets discharged. Other than that, everything works flawlessly!!!
You unlocked it which means no you no longer have a warranty. ASUS are quite clear on this. You can send it back to Asus and they will charge you to fix it.
Or you could open the back and check the ribbon hasn't come lose? Same with the other one, get a screen from eBay and fix it yourself. Probably some vids you can use on you tube.

So, I opened the tablet. Angry Dinosaur was right, it really is easy. Unfortunately, the cables connecting the display to the board look fine. I haven't seen any spare TF701T screens on Ebay, but I will keep looking. If anyone knows of a place, please let me know. Thanks.

I'm bored A week speaking Japanese and nothing but Japanese TV and crappy BG WiFi modem I need some normality. That's you guys with your broken gadgets.
I normally don't do this, but based on what just happened, I added the Amazon 2-yr drops, spills, and hardware failure protection for $45. This one DOESN'T say anything about unlocking voiding a warranty (an that might be hard to prove in the event of a drop anyway). Anyone have any experience with this? For $45 it seems like a decent alternative to the loss of Asus warranty when I root. I can't not do it either, since I noticed such a big improvement on Cromi-X.
SBDAGS, if you are bored for a minute I had another question for you. I know that you love the stock browser and I agree that it's faster than Chrome. I want the extra screen space and so am using the quick controls. The one problem for me is that I like to scroll with my left thumb and pull out the menu with my right. I end up accidentally pulling up the quick controls and jumping to another page when I'm trying to scroll. This happens about every 5th scroll attempt. Do you have any idea how hard it would be to modify the labs setting to allow quick controls to function off left, right, both - maybe check boxes? I searched but couldn't find anything already done. I could create another donation fund for you if you think it's not a huge amount of work.

It'll be in the smali code probably. A good question for someone like @elesbb who loves these challenges. it's not a question of being bored for this one, I don't have the tools with me to decompile the apk.

S Pen Snaps/Broken End

So before you ask me this is not my S Pen I saw this on Twitter.
Do you think the Pen just broke like this or was damaged by the user? Has anyone had any issues with their S Pen (such as breaking or the end coming off)?
Uh oh, I sure hope this isn't a common thing. I just started messing around with all the new things the S pen can do. This makes me nerveous to even pull it out.
never had a issue with a s-pen more than likely user error
Learn how to use it properly.
I have been drawing and using it for almost 2 weeks now, it works like a charm.

point taken.
I work in a national carrier phone store, and our demo model Note 9 was installed by our inventory manager. The S-pen broke while she was installing the display, it snapped the clicker off.

How? For that to have happened the S Pen would have had to been sticking out and then obviously of it gets hit it could snap off
Just Happened to me too
Just happened to me too,I can see this happening pretty easily. The end has a very thin plastic housing for a part that gets a moderate amount of tension. Broke off for me with almost no effort. I called Samsung and they denied a replacement since it is physical damage. $50 for a new one.

Pull yourself together for goodness sake! S-pens have been around for years and are well made though like all such tech will break if abused.
Knee jerk reactions to nothing....
Ryland
Might be a very random thing. I have used the spen alot, mainly testing screen protectors and fooling around with the new features. My spen is still solid. I have dropped a few times as well.

S-Pen is very solid. Our last display for the Note 8, someone snapped the S-pen clicker off that one too. So it's probably just spiteful thing. Customers being customers.
Same thing happened to mine yesterday while I was trying to pull it out of the phone. The rest of the pen got stuck inside the phone. I tried putting the top back on and now it won't pop out at all. Any suggestions on how to get it out? Thinking of leaving in there until I can order another one. Smh.

Update, Samsung offered a free replacement. They sent me a shipping label to return the broken one.
.....Nope
I had several Note devices and not once have I replaced a S pen, I haven't switched out the tip. Not sure how you could damage it anyway besides the obvious. It feels light enough why incredible Hulk it ??
Mine broke after 3 days...
It was a little wobbly out of the box. Didn't think much of it. I've had all Notes since the 2, never had one break on me and used them each for over a year. On day 3 of the Note 9, I was just using my ginger nail to pull it out and it just fell off. Wasn't using much pressure. I take care of my electronics. I went to you YouTube and saw that it had happened to others. One guy stated that he contacted Verizon and they sent him a new one. I called AT&T. It wasn't as easy as his, but after a few trys and calling Samsung directly, AT&T gave me a 50 dollar credit. The actual cost was 54 with taxes, but it was close enough. I'm just worried that this is going to be an ongoing thing. Samsung was great and offered to fix it immediately (they sent a box with return postage) but said the carrier should have fixed it with no issues. So. I called AT&T again and this time they took care of it. They wanted to replace the whole phone, but I didn't want to go through setting it up again and asked for a credit. They agreed and I had a new one in about 4 days or so.
Just happened to me now, device is only 24 hours in hand purchased from Samsung. Anyone else get a free replacement from samsung?
