Universal Ext4 Converter - LG Optimus 2x

Hi
I wanted to share my latest project with you: The universalExt4converter (for LG P990 and LGP999)
What a Ext4 converter?
Yep it converts your filesystem to Ext4 and it is editing your kernel, so you don't need to flash a specific kernel if you want ext4 as your filesystem.
Click to collapse
How does it works?
It extracts your boot.img, splits it, extracts the ramdisk and edit some lines so the kernel knows how to mount your data/system partition (as ext4), then flashes the boot.img again (still with old kernel - only a few lines changed). If everything worked it is converting your filesystem (This should ensure that you have a working rom everytime - Not that you have a converted filesystem and the device doesn't know how to mount it)
Click to collapse
Are there any risk?
Yeah there are risks and I can tell you that I needed to wipe my device really often in the dev process. A very important zip was Paul's back to ext3 zip (Link). I would suggest that you have it on your sd when you use this script. It wipes your data and system partition and converts the filesystem back to ext3. This is the last possible solution if your device isn't booting up anymore (First try to reflash cm - should work mostly). A nandbackup isn't bad too (you can restore after the back to ext3 zip)
Click to collapse
Are there other things I need to know?
Yep if you choose to convert your filesystem to Ext4, you have to live with it. You need to flash it after every nightly, after every kernel flash. Only way back is described above. Be warned!
Click to collapse
Really any rom?
No not every rom. First your rom needs a ext4 capable kernel and we need a installed busybox (I can't get the initial system mounting working without it (and without a mounted system the script didn't work). Later the busybox contained in the script takes over. If someone have more skills than me pls do a pull request or send me a patch (git is on my personal github).)

I have read everything and I understand everything. I won't blame Benee, if my device isn't booting up anymore.

I tought that Cyanogen doesn't work with EXT4, and Paul's rom auto converts the partitions to EXT4

looks cool, eventhough i'm not sure about this, because most ROM force convert to specific file system that ROM developer want

Great work!
Love to try after i free up some space on my SD for nandroid.!

No because the kernel is missing ext4 module support.
This zip doesn't touch the kernel.
Edit: Updated the op (read the last 'Really any rom' part)

Ok update. Fixed a huge fail. Now it actually improves your io. Additionally fixed and added p999/p990 detection etc.

[ROM][CM10] Unofficial CM10+Fuse for P990

- What is FUSE?
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970138
- First of all know that:
There will be a full DATA WIPE will erase the internal memory also.
I am not responsible for any damage that may occur.
I have performed this operation more than 20 times and have not had any problems.
Once this flashing the ROM, do not unplug the cable to complete the operation.
- About this ROM
This ROM is based on CM10 "20121030-NIGHTLY-P990" and has got CWM 6.0.1.5.
It's exactly the same except for the change in the ramdisk and the file "storage_list.xml".
- How to install the ROM?
In this case we can not use CWM, since before we partition the EMMC.
We follow the following steps:
· Unzip the file. ZIP
· Turn off the device.
· Remove the battery.
· Press Vol + and Vol-and connect the USB cable.
· Double-click the file flash.bat and wait about 3 minutes.
· Unplug the USB cable.
· Insert the battery.
· Switch on the device
· Optionally: Boot in recovery mode and install last gapps
- I can go back to the state before partitioning?
Yes, I'll upload another file to return to the previous, still using nVFlash that is posted on this forum you can also return to the previous state.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975274
- I can still install CM nightly?
No, because if it is an upgrade, be crushed file "storage_list.xml" and ramdisk. As a result, you can still use the phone, but will not recognize the internal partition.
If one accepts this change in the repository of P990, we can make updates as always.
- First install? Download this:
http://progmaq.com/cm10/progmaq-newfuse.zip
- Updates? Yeah, this is last build (Install by CWM):
http://progmaq.com/cm10/cm-10-20121108-FUSE-p990.zip
Credits:
- CM for CM10.
- RC for p990 repo.

Can you please give us some specs about the rom

The answer is no. This ROM has bugs from CM10 + bugs introduced by the KANG itself.
So please when using this KANG never report bugs to CM10 thread because bugs should come from KANG.
Also if you want to contribute to CM10 debugging avoid using KANG till end of the month. I am talking as an anonymous user who is willing a robust CM10 ROM as fast as possible : you certainly understand that KANG introduce debugging noise.
Otherwise ProgMaq thank you for your efforts.

Can fuse be combined with stock based custom roms?
Good development
This is nice. I will test it on the weekend.
Can you provide an CWM flashable file just for the changes on ramdisk and storage_list.xml?
This way, after flashing the first time with nVFlash, we can update nightlies as usual and flash the file after that.
Maybe the storage_list.xml file can be kept just by placing it on the custom_backup_list.txt file. But I dont know how to keep ramdisk when flasing a new nightly.

[MOD][Alpha v4 for bone stk now]SD Swap flash + initd For JB 4.1.2

I polished this for the xt907. It should work as is on the unlocked mb866. I have used Photon Q recovery & Rom Manager since I learned it was the first usable recovery for the Atrix HD.
Be sure to back up as it is untested on a mb866.
Adds initd support & SD swap. All storage defaults to storage0 (your real SD card) which is the way it should have been from Motorola, well closer anyway.
This internal SD ("data/media") memory now has no purpose. You can move what you want to your real SD & delete everything else to let the phone use it all.
UpDate I did not Know that TWRP 263 fails where Philz v6 succeeds.
Just go here to get Philz v6 & swap v3 :

Adds initd support & SD swap. All storage defaults to storage0 (your real SD card) which is the way it should have been from Motorola, well closer anyway.
I have revised my SD swap method. Now you can flash this to any stock rom as you like. Wipe dalvik & cache only. Good for SafeStrap roms too. Not for cm based, multuser, or anything but 4.1.2 stock roms!
This internal SD ("data/media") memory now has no purpose. You can move what you want to your real SD & delete everything else to let the phone use it all. All storage defaults to storage0 (your real SD card) which now is the way it should have been from Motorola, well closer anyway.
Always use Plilz v6 as it works as well as TWRP 263.
Always choose any NO when rebooting from CWMR.
Known issues:
Two things will Kill the SD swap: (by messing with install-recovery.sh)
1)Using TWRP older then v2.6 Or cwmr other than Philz v6.
2)If you boot from CWMR and choose yes to "disable recovery flash".
Also) If you mess with multiuser roms feel free to delete 0 , obb & legacy folders in internal sd (storage1).
One more) It is expected for your settings-storage info to be out of whack.
Finally) Create folder in root of the phone with Root Explorer results in an error but is the same as the Rabbit's version & of no consequence. The folder does get created anyway. All else works in the root of the phone.
Does that help?
Very good option for the stock lovers.

Just go here to get Philz v6 & swap v3 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48398998#post48398998
Download zip & flash with Philz v6, Wipe dalvik & cache only
Oh & let me know if it works or not?

Is there anyway to make this work for 4.2.2 or 4.3? I would love to be able to use the SD swap on pacman.

I will eventually make a flash out of the script posted for 4.3. There is an alpha I just through together.

Sweet, I will test it when you make it available.

Is there still a chance at having a 4.3 or 4.4 version of this SD Swap? I would be a test monkey for you if you need.

Did you try this diy version:

I may go to Miui which is based on 4.2.2 & work a mod for that.

I did not try that, thanks for the information. I like Miui, please keep me posted if you do and if you need testers.

F2FS possible ?

Dear XDA gurus,
I have done some (re)searches on this topic, but wasn't able to find clear clues/hints/topics around my question : is it possible to run a Moto 4G 2014 (custom ROM'ed of course) on (one/all/some/any) f2fs based partition(s) ?
I did try to install a custom ROM - the Temasek/LINARO CM12.1 unoff. - on a 100% f2fs partition (system included) and it did not work (had to revert back to ext4 to complete the boot process)... Didn't try a cache (or cache+data), it wasn't my own phone so had to give it back quickly
On my Nexus10, there is a (Khaon) kernel that explicitly supports the f2fs, but can't find similar statement in most of the ROM/kernels I've reviewed here
Thanks again, for all the answers, help and of course the hard work !
Cheers
Chris

* F2FS filesystem support (R/RW)
You can test it and report back

Enabling F2FS on other partitions than /data (which is F2FS by default) is pretty much pointless.

Thanks Luke for pointing this out so it means f2fs is supported whatever the kernel or custom ROM flavor is ? I'm not 100% sure, but when I flashed the G 2014 with the ROM partitions were all EXT4 (but I can't swear) ...
Newbily yours,
Chris

Thanks for the tip ! Is this one LP compliant (I'm now running the TEMASEK/LINARO/CM12.1 unofficial one) ?

Yup, all ROMs including stock are using f2fs for /data.
