[Q] Galaxy Tab Keyboard query - Galaxy Tab Accessories

Hi
I recently bought a keyboard dock ECR-K10D for my tab.The keyboard works fine.Except when i use it for Thinkfree Office.I am able to use it to create new documents & type accordingly. However, when i try to create a new spreadsheet & type in it there's no input registered, i have to tap the screen & then only the characters are registered as an input. I thought it was a software issue but the touch type keyboard works fine onscreen.the "issue" happens only when I dock the tab in the keyboard dock. Anyone out there facing anything similar or shud i try another office app?

I just picked up that keyboard as well a few days ago. Only spent about 20min on it thus far. Seem to work fine as far as nav around the home screens and menu. Only tried a note app for a moment to try out the typing and it was perfect. My keyboard is at work, so tomarrow I will try it out in a speadsheet of thinkfree. I will get back to you then.
I did see one issue. Some times when I undock from the keyboard, and then redock a few minutes later, the keyboard does not want to work. It makes the sound as if has docked, but nothing. I can undock and redock once or twice to get it back working. My settings are set to the keyboard and not Swipe. (just like the manual recomended) No biggie just can be a hassel. Have you run in to this?(or has anyone else that may be reading?)

Grem,
Your 100% correct. I comfirm that the keyboard does not work for inputting data in cells of the spreadsheet program of Thinkfree. The word processor program of Thinkfree works great with the keyboard from what I can tell.
Well, hopefully we will not run in to this very often with other apps.

[Q] Keyboard takes up whole screen in browser

Since I rooted my Nook color this morning, when I am in the browser and go to type in a box, instead of pulling up the keyboard on half the screen and leaving the browser window on top, it pulls up the large text typing box. Is there a way I can restore this so I can see the browser too? I've poked around in the settings and tried searching for keyboards in the forums, but that came up with a zillion results.
This is for when browsing in landscape mode. (Vertical seems to be working fine.) I've tried changing from the default browser to Skyfire, but no luck.
Many keyboards are just like that, unfortunately. I know that SlideIT actually lets you see the browser when in landscape, though. You could give that or another keyboard a try.

If your willing to pay......
Better Keyboard Pro version 8 has an option to Resize the keyboard, there is also a free version but I'm not sure if it has that option. (was trying to upload a pic so you could see but not enough posts yet)
The Gingerbread keyboard displays correctly in landscape mode. There are several threads with information, including a download link to an apk that works for 2.1
If you prefer your current keyboard for portrait typing, there is an app on the market called Keyboard Manager that will change your keyboard automatically based on device orientation.

[Q] Google Voice (just for SMS/texting) - missing keyboard?

I had heard Google Voice worked fine on the Touch, but the lower third of the keyboard is always missing, rendering its SMS/text capabilities basically nil.
Anyone have a similar experience and/or have a workaround?
(sigh)
Well, I worked on the app trying different methods of possibly expanding the keyboard to full size to no avail. I searched the Market for any substitutes for GoogleVoice. Nothing there, either.
Has anyone found a substitute?
GV Mobile site.
I use the Google Voice mobile site: www dot google dot com/voice/b/0/m. It works great in Opera Mobile. I'm too new to post links, so you'll have to fix that address...
Drakkim:
Indeed! I ended up switching to using the mobile site (in Opera mini) just as you did. Worked fine for me.
However, of late, I decided to switch keyboards (currently both GO Keyboard and ICS Keyboard) and they end up working just fine in the actual Google Voice app. These keyboards don't get "cut off".
I use swifttabletx, but the corrections don't pop up, so i disabled them, and it works great.

ICS: keyboard dock not working properly in Chrome

I recently flashed the official ics update for the p7310, and installed Chrome. I noticed that when entering text using the samsung keyboard dock, some of the keys don't work as expected. The period key seems to be acting as the delete key, the delete key does nothing, the quote key seems to be acting as a right arrow key, but only sometimes, and the on screen keyboard button does nothing.
needless to say, trying to type this post has been quite fun.
this just a bug in Chrome? Anyone have any ideas for a work-around? Or do I just have to not use Chrome when I want to use the keyboard dock?
I thought I was the only one and it was a random bug. I can verify that this has happened to me as well.

Hi,
I don't have the keyboard dock but I don't have any screen issues.
I type just fine on chrome?
What is the language of your tablet? I have english (united kindgom)... maybe that's it...
have you select the samsung onscreen keyboard while using the dock ?
i read somewhere the onscreen keyboard has to be set to the samsung one when using the dock.
i have the dock but no ics for me till now (p7300 3g unbranded)

Yes, I have the onscreen keyboard set to samsung when I use the dock. For some reason, it always auto-switches to the samsung keyboard when I put it in the dock, even though the text that pops up says to manually switch it.
Ironically enough, i just tried setting the keyboard to swiftkey while using the keyboard dock, and my period key is now working correctly in chrome.
I guess I can live with that as a workaround when I want to use the keyboard dock in chrome. Delete key still doesn't work though and the quote key is still tempermental.

[Q] Keyboard won't access Google Voice Typing (Captivating rom)

Hey guys,
So I've tried everything I can think of, but my google voice typing icon does nothing when I touch it. If I hold it down, it still brings up settings, but just stays inactive when I touch it. I was able to use it after I first flashed the captivating rom, in fact I mistakenly made it my default keyboard somehow.... and once I figured out how to turn it off of default (reset the phone to apply settings) for some reason it stopped working. Not sure if there's any more options short of backing up and re-flashing.
I'm still using the same captivating rom, with unofficial semaphore kernel.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Which version of the ROM are you running? I'm currently running X6 and I've had some other odd keyboard issues. Have you tried resetting the default keyboard? (I know you took off the other one from default but what did you set as the default after)
I have tried both xperia keyboard and the android keyboard as default. Neither work
X6 here too
I'll try to download the google voice app later when I get home from work. If any one else has had any keyboard issues your input would also be appreciated .
Yeah I downloaded Google voice a couple hours ago, hoping it could fix it. Are they actually related though?
It's odd because it's only the keyboard icon that won't access google voice typing... I can do voice search etc.
Odd, I'll try this as well once I get home. Just to note, I DID NOT flash X6 from a clean install. I "dirty" flashed it over X5. Not sure if you did as well (It wouldn't come as a surprise if this was the cause of some of these issues, if you did this as well).
Actually I did flash from stock.

X7 is posted now and I've heard it fixes some of the keyboard issues. Hope it helps.

swiftkey and samsung keyboard issue

i love to use use swiftkey. But on galaxy s6, even after I choose swiftkey as default keyboard, samsung keyboard turns itself into default keyboard after a while (anywhere from few minutes to hours...). it is so annoying to select manually swiftkey all the time. Any way around this issue?
gurus , any idea ?
if nothing else you could probably use tasker to automatically set swiftkey as your default keyboard every X minutes/hours and/or when you use X programs.
OR you might be able to make it notify you via popup/alarm when samsung keyboard becomes default in order to try and pinpoint the cause
It'd be a little more advanced than anything I've done with tasker so I can't give you step by step instructions on the setup you'd need to create, but a quick google yielded these instructions, you could tweak it to your needs:
http://code.rawlinson.us/2012/10/android-change-keyboard-based-on-app.html
it's not a real fix, but a temporary workaround is better than nothing. I'm currently using tasker to workaround an issue I have with MMS not sending when connected to wifi. (Shuts wifi off for 10 seconds when mms comes in)
Questions:
-Have you attempted using another 3rd party keyboard to see if it does it to all keyboards or just swype? I use "Jelly Bean Keyboard" (downloadable from google play) and I can say once or twice its gone back to samsung keyboard, but i THINK that was due to me tinkering and accidentally resetting defaults.
-though more than likely useless, have you tried wiping your cash? shut phone off then hold power + home + volume up (or is it down?) and select wipe cash then restart phone
-finally although I don't recommend this until all other options are exhausted, it's worth asking just to know what you've tried, have you done a factory reset yet?
i've downloaded swiftkey and set it as default in my S6 just to try and help, I'll use it for a day or two and see if it resets on me and report back
Disable or freeze the Samsung keyboard

From what I know you can't disable Samsung keyboard, at least not without root
Edit: nevermind, went into input method in settings and yes theres a disable option for Samsung keyboard.
Ive been using swiftkey since yesterdays post, so far no issue, its stayed as the selected option
finally, got it working. I have been trying to disable samsung keyboard from settings, but it will enable itself everytime. this time, i have also disabled google voice typing option, and now Swiftkey stays as default. I dont know what is the co-relation between the two, but it works. Thanks all of you for various suggestions.

I keep google voice typing enabled for occasional use while driving if I need to respond to a txt asap, along with an alternate (jellybean) keyboard as primary, it's never caused an issue for me before
Day 2 into using swiftkey keyboard (with google voice typing enabled) without any disabling/resetting to default samsung keyboard problems
On a side note, if I could remove the word suggestion bar I'd probably keep swiftkey now, got a theme i like on it and learning to enjoy it, though I dont use the swype function at all
