App Store - Off-topic

I don't know if anybody posted this before, but has anyone ever though about getting apps and games from the Apple store on to your Android phone? Just a thought, but if anybody can do that, you would be my hero!
Thanks in advance

excellent question! I wanna know cuz I want Sonic 4 for Android, and given how open source it, it wouldn't suprise me if someone knows how to port Apple Apps

Different operating systems. Apps and games need to be PORTED to android... You can't just install them.
It's difficult to explain without some computer/coding knowledge......
Think of it in terms of a game that comes out on PC, Xbox and PS3. The game is developed with console in mind and then ported to the other systems. Naturally the original is far better, it's what it was coded for and optimized for. The ports, unless rebuilt from the ground up, are never as good.
Just like you can't stick an Xbox360 disk in your computer and start playing, you can't install an apple application on Android. Porting is a pain-staking process, eventually a majority of apps on the Apple store will make it to Android, but don't hold your breathe.
It can be as open source as it wants, it's still a difficult and painful process to port it to another operating system. If it was easy every PC app and title would be Mac friendly and Apple/Linux users would have more than the small handful of games to play that they unfortunately have.
If you want sonic download a Genesis emulator and play one of the originals. Touch screen controller emulated controls suck though . Wish their was a better alternative.

If an app has been ported (think angry birds) it would be in the android market, amazon appstore or getjar.com (in the case of the newly released cut the rope.)
As for porting apps like the poster above said IT'S NOT AN EASY THING...

Oh. Ok. Do u think a lot of new apps from Apple will come to the android market?

No one really knows, but some of the apple games just got recently ported like plants vs zombies, cut the rope etc. so yeah it's possible.

That has never been posted on xda before. This site has over 20 billion users and 15 million posts per hour, and not one person has ever had that amazing thought.
I wish I'd thought of it first. I'd love an iPhone.

Quake 2 for android

http://quake2-android.sourceforge.net/
looks promising and dev is offering beta testing for those who donate over $3. I dont have a paypal account, anyone test this yet?
thanks
WOW!
from what i saw that looked great!
i love first person shooters and will sooooo drain a battery if they get games like this on our android os!
Just donated five dollars, I'll post up a quick run down once I get my grubby paws on an apk
I won't risk donating for this one
The guy is the infamous Valdimir Silva - with the worst and sloppiest ports of games like Doom and Quake. I seriously doubt this one will be an exception, but we'll see. Please give us feedback if you get the app. I hope he actually sends you an apk and doesn't take donations for some vaporware or a doom WAD for Quake 2, which I remember exists. I bet his next "port" will be CS 1.6 - there's a doom WAD for De dust too

let us know how it is
i want quake3 arena so i can play some instaunlagged on my phone
Force closing after one one run, however, during that one run, it's pretty smooth.
where do i get the pak0.pak? i'm having trouble downloaing in my area and it tells me to get the pak0.pak and move it over using cpu?
Unreal Tournament being ported to Linux is almost impossible because it uses the Unreal Game Engine, which is created by Epic Games and is NOT open source... I mean, you could get the code off some shady torrent site, but there's no possible legal way of porting Unreal Engine to anything other than Windows, Mac OS X, PSP, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gamecube, Wii, etc...
The Quake engine's source code was released, so it is possible to run Quake now on a PSP, iPhone, ANDROID, etc.
P.S.
If there was an HTC Android phone with a full keyboard, a VERY FAST CPU, a high-res display, 512 MB RAM and some really good GPU, we'd be running Quake 3 and going to WLAN parties by now
Back to evaluating the game.
Pretty choppy on my phone. Not surprised, though.

what ROM are you on? and what phone? i'm on the HTC dream xROM 1.5r4 with about 40 apps (apps2sd of course) and my sdcard specs are in my sig. things runs smooth as hell with NO sound. WITH sound it runs a bit choppy.
G1 with the latest CM rom. I'll try it with no sound and see if that helps.
Thanks.
How do you enable sound
How do you huys enable sound. I saw there was a setting toggle while you are in game and use the menu of the application - toggle sound and toggle onscreen controls and I toggle the sound but nothing happens. Do you have to restart the game to get sound to work? A pretty damn good port btw - I regret saying bad things about the dev...
I am trying to run this, keeps F/C on start though. It ran after I first installed it but seems to hate me now.

UT is probably not the best example for a difficult linux port. "Porting" Unreal Tournament to Linux consists of installing it with the Linux installer provided by Epic themselves.

Seems only to be F/Cing for CM Donut users. I've been using XRom for a while, works perfectly (excellent port, no lag with sound disabled)

Iphone apps

are there any app that can play iphone apps on android phones???
Simply, impossible....
lol i want am .apk that would play my xbox 360 games

Not impossible. Very hard for sure, would likely run like ****, and certainly get Apple's lawyers landing you in a world of hurt. Given the similarities in hardware (on some of the newer Android devices) you could do an emulator.
Of course the likelyhood of someone ever doing one is about 0.
I do not think that running the applications is the problem, The problem is that the iPhone runes on another OS. And that Apple probably would sue anyone who made an application that would allow you to use any of the app store programs.
i wonder if the iphone community are asking if android apps work on the iphone
mmmm NO
best thing to do is that the developer of the iphone app you want makes the app for android.
iPhone apps are .ipa's, you can download them from online and there .zips then you change them from a zip to an ipa. so if you can get all the crap from it and then make it an apk it would run like crap. lol. good idea though.

Fun games.

Is it just me or does it seem like our games on android just aren't that great? Maybe its because the devs are just more into making other apps rather than making games. I don't know though. I love android but i wish we would take a step forward in the fun section along with everything else were on top of

Totally know what you mean. I think one of the problems is that it is hard to be noticed in the Android Market especially compared to the App store, which (if you haven't used) is fluttered with directories that are easy to use and great way to find app that will work for you (I.E. Genius, top 25, etc). As well it is ton easier to pirate games on Android, which scare off developers. If only Google could rework their Market to work...better.

I understand that Haha im against pirating for that reason and for the reason that the devs put in a lot of time and work to make these apps. But that's one thing about android that i like is the ability to install non market applications, at least with a rooted phone. But i mean you get the same thing with the iphone and jailbreaking. And i do think android needs a more efficient way of promoting apps in different areas (i.e. Games, business, social, etc.).
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
... Just as easy to pirate Apple as it is Android. If you jail break your iPhone you can load pirated games just as easy.
And I think dev's like iTunes better because once you bought it... it's yours - none of this "oh, I don't like it so I'm going to uninstall it though I already have the *.apk file on my SDCard before I do" bs.
The Android market needs to become a little more "dev friendly" and not allow people to get that refund so easily. On the flip side Google/Android will need to be a little more big brother and scrutinize the applications being released.
There need to be incentives to developing good games for Android, IMO. The platform is more than adequate, but the hardware is also differentiated. A guy with a Backflip isn't going to get the same experience with NFS Shift as a guy with a Captivate. Where Apple only lets you download apps to _hardware qualified_ devices, the Android Market doesn't do that. Until there's more control over the Market and platform capabilities, it's going to scare off devs. All I really want to see is Netflix for Android. That would make me supremely happy.

The netflix idea is good and i agree there needs to be limitations based on hardware and which version of android you have. I thinks that's what is going to happen when gingerbread comes out though.

PSP, 2 CFW or not 2 CFW

Besides the old and tired reason of playing "back ups", is there any real reason to hack a psp. It's cool and gets you geek cred. But with a smartphone that does emulation, youtube, and skype, why would you want to hack a psp? Can anybody help me? Just looked and I'm still on 5.xx from when I bought Gran Tourismo. I know that they are up to 6.3x and there would be alot for me to do. But just looking for a reason to. Anybody running cfw and have a perspective I can't see? Please chime in.

Can't think of the name of now off hand, but I think I saw a theming wizard last year. Let's you redo all the pics and doesn't require any hacking. It makes a theme for you to save to the memory stick and apply. Is that like what you're talking about. Or theming a bit deeper?

That's kind of what I was thinking. Thanks. Just too much risk for not enough return imo. I don't steal games, so not worth it for me.
Personally, I've tried emulators on my Evo, and for me it's super odd to play them on a touch screen. I've tried using a wiimote with it's attachment, but no matter what wiimote or ime I've used, there's always a input delay. PSP can emulate PS1, N64, GBA, SNES, and Genesis for me with decent controls. Plus there are some games on it that are pretty good. Phantasy Star Portable series is pretty good.

I was just out and 'bout, seeing what else was on xda(I've stayed pretty sheltered in the epic section). Saw your title had psp, I was **** crazy for getting one. But to my disappointment(and lots of $ later), the only thing I even remotely like it for was "black ops". Definitely didn't hold my interest. But I still refuse to get rid of it
I've got an xbox 1. Retro - course u can't beat the old days of disc swapping on the dreamcast!

PSP On The Xoom - Will It Be A Part Of The PlayStation Suite?

About the PSP emulation on the Xoom... we already know it should be able to be done without a problem considering the fact that Sony announced that they are officially bringing the PS1 and PS2 library of games to our Android Tegra 2 devices via the PlayStation Suite by the end of this year. Where does that leave our PSP games? Will it be joining the crew in the Suite? I would love to know. I am currently playing the new Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy on my PSP 3000 and it rules, I love it!! Would be kinda neat to run it on the Xoom for future use. Thoughts?
I think this is an appropriate place to post. I'm not sure but I think I've seen one on the market.... anyways good idea +1

I think the best people to ask would be the developers of emulators like Snesoid, gensoid, N64oid, Fpse.
If there's anyone who can make emulators, these are the guys.

Very good point. I do have every single one of their emulators and I have quite a few of the premium paid ones too. They are a very awesome dev team and produce some top quality work. Maybe we should ask them if Sony has no plans to add in the PSP games to the Suite.
Don't know if you've seen this - http://pinoytutorial.com/techtorial...ase-for-playstation-games-on-tegra-2-devices/
I have seen it yes, but good info though. I'm really excited for the PlayStation Suite on Android! That includes the PS1 and PS2 games for sure as a fact. This I already knew. I wanna know if the PSP games will also be included in the PlayStation Suite line up. That would be pretty sweet to have all 3.. PS1, PS2, and PSP. Think about how many hardcore games Android will be gaining over iOS because of this. I'm thinking Final Fantasy. Mmmm!
Anything released by Sony for their own devices NGP/Xperia Play, that uses Android base (I don't actually know if NGP will run on Android, but it'd make sense for them to do so, since they'd get all the app support in addition to their own games), even if not released for other Androids, will likely be able to be hacked/modded to run on other devices, given the platform similarities.
PSP emulator would be awesome

I would hope they would. The PSN is Sony's thing. I'm almost sure that'll carry over. I highly doubt you will have to buy everything all over again considering the fact that your PSN account is linked to the PlayStation store. The store is essentially their version of the Android market in the sense that everything is linked to your email account. I wouldn't worry about that. But if for some reason they don't... that would suck.

I read somewhere that they would not carry over. It was on one of the articles last month. That and the 5 time download limit are the reasons I would never buy from the PSN.
Sony has stated that any game bought through the PSP would
not work on the android phones or service. You would need to repurchase any game you wished to play.
That's not cool man. Rebuy all games? I guess that makes sense I suppose.
