[Q] [N2E] Android app on rooted NOOK touch - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

I am buying a Nook touch if it can run a web browser and run Sudoku game.
Has anyone made these applications run on a rooted Nook touch?
Or, you can tell me what have you successfully run on a rooted N2E.
Thanks.

There are two browsers most people use, either the default or dolphin.
If you are looking to root your nook, you best option is to then flash on another os and go from there. This will give you a lot more power to do stuff (like netflix and what not) along with almost, if not all, the market place apps also

[Q] Nook Color Apps Repository.

Hi Folks,
Thanks for all the Great work !! I am a noob and this is my first android powered device. I would like to know if there is a repository for all the known running apps on NC.
I've managed to root the device fine. However I don't know where to get all these APK's that people here are using.
Thanks.
I spotted two alternative app stores that I installed and both working nicely. Andappstore and the other is SlideMe Marketplace. This second one needs a SD card to work since apparently it saves APKs there.
So you just go there and download any apk you want, there is no device specific apk? All apk's are created equal ??

SlideMe has a compatibility button you can push to check if NC will run the APK. So far, it's worked quite well for me - everytime an app says it can be installed and run fine, it does. Barring of course, the Google Apps, which aren't working right now. But make sure you have an SD card and give it a go

I haven't downloaded a whole lot but the ones I have installed without issues. And SlideMe even has an uninstall option. That is if you go back to the installed apk's own page in the market.
I just download with my phone then use appmonster and send all the apk to sd. Then send to dropbox.

Nook Color 1.2 Rooted

I restored to stock and update my nook color to 1.2.0. YAY flash works! This will properly root using nooter 0.2 This of course only enables adb so if you have to manually install all the programs you want. One downside if you like the stock launcher(user interface) is the installed programs do not show in the new 'apps' menu. Also, make sure you install nook color tools from the auto-nooter. Debuging does not stay on after you reboot and the program will enable you to do so. Also, you will need another launcher such as ADW to access your programs.
I have a rooted Nook Color with stock 1.1 Rom and clockworkmod recovery installed.
Will the new update be pushed to me automatically, or do I have to manually install it.
If I have to do it manually do I do it per the instructions on B&N website or some other way using clockworkmod recover?
I believe you have to do it manually. I read that you can do it with CWR. The person who did it said it froze or something on the first boot but a reboot fixed it. Search '[ROM 1.2] nook color' on xda for instructions thread.
I was wondering, once auto-rooters are released, will you still be able to use the apps you got from B&N? There are one or two I'd buy, but want to make sure I can still root and use them. Thanks!

i'd assume they'd be tied into your b&n account - similar to your books - you can redownload any of your books that you purchased previously.
edit: btw, thanks OP for the heads up on nooter 0.2 - i'm back to where i was at with autonooter and root with 1.1 (minus gapps, which i haven't played with yet)... a lot more tedious doing things manually. running adw launcher pro as my launcher.
good job thx!!
cannot feel more wonderful.

Although the apps from the nook market seem to be modified to be recognized by the nook interface, I still have the library and shop apps in my zeam menu. I don't think there will be a problem using and apps from the nook market on any rooted nook.
@everyone
Amazon market works, but I had to install the angry birds apk using adb. I read there are problems installing apk's bigger than 4M. I suspect this may have something do to with that issue.
I don't have market working yet but it looks like someone did it with a specific market version and nookie-froyo-gapps. It also looks like auto-nooter will be out soon. I will be doing manual because I'm very anal about not having unnecessary software on my devices.
Edit: Market is working if but it appears large programs still do not install. Here is a guide:
download nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207.zip (use google) & unzip
download Vending.apk & Talk.apk from this post http:// forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051235&page=11
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblock0p5 /system
adb push nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207/system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk /system/app
adb push nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207/system/etc/permissions/features.xml /system/etc/permissions
adb push Vending.apk /system/app
adb push Talk.apk /system/app
has the autonooter fpor 1.2 been released yet?
For now it's ManualNooter uses CWM.
Has some issues.
Check it here:

I can install gapps from the nookie froyo pack but calendar is not included. Even after setting up gmail, my calendars will not show. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

[Q] Installing an apk w/out market

In the ongoing battle to not have the market crash on launch (rooted stock 1.3 running 4.6.16 and I fixed permissions with ROM manager) I've noticed that titanium backup seems to be a start for a few potential fixes. That said - I have to actually install the bloody thing and w/out market access that's proving tough.
I d'loaded the apk via. the built-in browser. It's on my SD card. But I can't seem to find any way for the built-in app-laucher to....well, launch. When I run the apk's from the browser I get 2 options:
Complete action (running apk) using:
* App Installer (which when clicked says it's unable to install and that I should archive then unarchive the app and try again)
* Package installer (which says there's a prob. parsing the package).
I've got what I assume to be non-market app's checked off in NC Tools (it's the blank box in NC Tools with nothing next to it that people talk about).
Any suggestions to get the bloody apk working?
Sounds like a badly packaged .apk. It also has that error whenever I try to install Honeycomb specific apps.

Did you enable non-market installs?
Do as Dizzy said or find another apk to install, if it keep crashing then try install some another ROM like CM7.

In the NC tools I do have what is supposed to be the non-market installs checked off (but with it being a blank box of text next to it, I'm not positive).
I guess it might be a bad apk, but I got it from the TB site directly. I tried ES File Explorer too. It would seem all apk's I'ev tried give the same error. I'm not sure if maybe B&N somehow hobbled the ability to install apk's with their 1.3 update.

I had CM7 on for a few days, but with the market not working well on it (market determined that the nook wasn't compatible with any of the apps, even with the LCD resize), and with a subscription to PC mag via. B&N I went back to stock rooted 1.3.
Any other suggestions? I was thinknig of trying MIUI if things in CM7 or the Nootered stock don't resolve themselves.

MIUI is just a themed outdated cm7. I don't see how that would help.
Can you get any .apks to install?

I just finished the Android SDK/Java route to push apk's to the NC. I've successfully installed Titanium, ES File explorer, Opera Mobile and SwiFTP to my NC via the SDK route. While I don't have market access, I guess it will be ok for now....I sure wish the Market worked properly though....nice 'n convenient. Ah well.
[EDIT] One thing I did try to get the market to work was uninstall Flash 10.3. I put on 10.2 & reset permissions. No dice for what it's worth....if somebody's keeping a list of things that don't work.

Interestingly, if I try to use the default browser to install appbrain (www.appbrain.com/install), or even Opera mobile to install it, .... it results in a flash screen (rotating flash dots in the middle) that crashes after a second....just like when I (attempt to) launch the Market.

[Q] Nook Color rooted question

Hi all:
I was able to hack my new nook color it took a while. I am able to download my apps like Kindle and the flash software but where is it after you hacked it?
I have the mod version Cyangenmod-7.1.0 on the nook and its runs like a dream.
I just cannot find the apps that I downloaded can anyone help?
Thanks
What do you mean you cannot find them?
- You search the market and they show as not there?
- Does the market say incompatible device?
- Does market even show up?
- Did you flash gapps?
Kindle app
I am able to download them but cannot find where they are on the cm7 version that I am using. I did flash it I think cause I can see the market place gmail and stuff like that.
So if you open the app drawer on CM7 they are not listed?
If you go to market > hit menu > goto my apps are they listed as installed and can be opened from there?
Kindle app
Thanks will try it,
Still no help
i can download the apps but I cannot find them on the nook hack that I have.
Not working
Alright I cannot see my apps at all I am able to download them from the market place but at this point nothing is happening. Gonna try and reset the nook color again.
Alright, we always want to help but pls tell us clearly what and/or where you get stuck.
You said "I cannot see my apps at all I am able to download them from the market place but at this point nothing is happening."
Can you elaborate?
You are able to download apps? from where and how? Via Market or download from the web?
You are able to flash it? Install you meant? How did you do it?
You can't see your apps? What app? The .apk? The package that you "downloaded"? The icon that tap to run?
bio, above suggested you open App Drawer, did you do that? What happens?

This is what I did step by step
1. downloaded CloockworkMod 3.2.0.1 from here
2. After that I flashed the nook with the gapp file from the same place as above.
3. I hooked the nook up to my wifi system at home. I am able to go online and surf. I located the android market and I am able to download my apps.
4. I can see the apps installing on the nook but at this point I cannot find them.
Did I miss a step?
Nook Issues
I have to return the nook back from the bookstore on campus. My parents just got me the kindle fire for Christmas cause they knew I had an amazon account and I had the black and white one. I was able to do a full factory restore from the beginning and registered the nook as well. Well it was fun while it lasted I love the kindle anyway!!!

I will give you feedback on how this solution worked out for me.
That's a nice list, but it's not really the stock applications that I want to delete.
I want to get rid of the apps that start with "com.bn...", especially the ones that go on the internet for no reason.
Semi-related: where can I find the stock Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk?
1. To stop "useless" wifi traffic install 'AdFree'.
2. System apps are stored in "/system/app/".
User apps are stored in "/data/app/"
appbrain[dot]com/app/adfree-android/com[dot]bigtincan[dot]android[dot]adfree
Configure it wisely. Sometimes the developers live off advertisements shown in apps.

I installed ver 0.8.44 the latest version I could find but on running it said it was out of date and I needed a newer version - so it would not work.

1. AdFree worked fine on my NST. Try earlier version for example. 0.8.31.
Maybe it tries to update itself via Google Play?
GP kicked AdFree out of their market.
I can't help you any further.
My NST currently flies to the US for its last check under warranty.
2. You can 'Disable B&N Apps' in 'NookManager'.

Try an old CyanogenMod 5 ROM like this one and extract them from the zip /system/app. CM5 roms are gettting a little hard to find these days so hang onto it in case you need other stock Android 2.1 stuff sometime.
