songs as ringtones...

sorry guys, but i have searched repeatedly on how to do this and came up with nothing.
is there a way to use mp3's as ringtones from the MicroSD card? i tried everything and i dont want to fill up precious memory on the phone with mp3's or cut the bitrate down to where it sounds like a bunch of midi files. paste a shortcut maybe? is there a app that can do this? i already know where to put them on the phone to use them, i want to directly access the mem card for ringtones, it doesnt ever come out of the phone anyways.
my Sony s710a read all the ringtones straight from the memory card, how in the world can i get the kaiser to do likewise?

I haven't tried this on the Kaiser just yet, but putting them in the root directory of the SD card has always worked for me, for the other HTC phones I have.

I haven't tried this yet, but in the "Audio Manager" application it shows me all the songs which are available to WMP (Inc. those on the SD Card) from here I can hold down on one with the stylus and I have the option to "Set as Ring Tone"

just make a folder on your sd card called "My Documents" with a folder inside that called "My Ringtones" ---- any song you have in my ringtones folder will show up on your ringtone list

go to the HTC Audio manager, select a song (mp3) you want, go to menu and select set as ringtone, then you will get the option to use as default ringtone or to copy the file to the ringtone folder.

Where to put sound files in order to use them as alarm clock/ ringtone?

Hi all,
I want to use my own MP3-Files for alarm clock/ ringtone, however, I cannot select the files for these applications.
As far as I can see, there are three music-folders on the device, \MUSIC, \WINDOWS\HTCTone and \WINDOWS\Rings.
Wherever I put my MP3-files, I cannot select them in the browser of the alarm clock/ ringtone app. Are there any additional registry entries needed? Or doesn't the TD2 accept MP3s for these purposes?

You can place MP3 files for ringtones into My Documents / My Ringtones and files for sms notification must be in windows folder. I tried to use mp3 files for alarm clock but without avail. I think it must be wav or wma file in windows directory also.
Edit: I've tried it and it must be .wav file.

Hi, .wav file I put into windows folder and it's displayed in Ringtone menu.

On Polaris it's in
Device\Application Data\Sounds\
From there mp3s are working for SMS/MMS notifications... Reminders too...

for ringtone u can put it in storage card, must be at the main page, not inside any folder

[Q] How to change default ringtones

Does anyone know how to change the default ringtones. I know that if you add a folder called ringtones on sd card that they show up, but when you have your sd cards mounted they are not present. I have tried to place ogg files in the /system/media/audio/ringtone folder but it doesn't see them.
EDIT: Again I want to know what reads the folder /system/media/audio/ringtone/*.ogg and populates the ringtone select menu.
I know I can add into this with /sdcard/ringtones/*.* but again when sdcard is mounted these are invalid.

Create a ringtones folder under the /sdcard directory. That's where I put mine and the phone finds them.

There are 2 applications that'll do this for you you can download zedge from the android marketplace or ring droid both of these work great for me should check em out. Zedge allows you to download free wallpapers and ringtones. Ringdroid allows you to create ringtones from music stored on your phone.

I've pushed ringtones into /system/media/audio/ringtones and it works for me. So do they not show up when you put them into that dir? You can use mp3 also, doesn't have to be ogg.

Yes, they do not show up. I cannot recall if I did a reboot afterwards. Gonna try that now after getting comfirmation that it should read from there without anything else.

i made a directory called ringtones on the /SDcard/ directory
same for notifications if you want custom notification sounds.
and MP3s work fine. no need to edit or anything. any size seems to work for me

[Q] Ringtones on phone memory.

I look in others threads and didn't find it.
What I want to do, is save my own ringtones on the telephone memory to able to pick any of those ringtones from the default list.
My phone is already rooted and I use the Root Explorer.
I know that the default ringtones and notification sounds are in
/system/media/audio (/ringtones or /notifications)
the music in the file are in ogg, so I convert my ringtones from mp3 to ogg
I fill all the information of the ringtone (artist - title - etc)
and put the file there. Then I noticed the permissions of the rest of the ringtones, so I changed too. And beside of that, it still not working.
I know that if I create a file with the name ringtones or notification in the sdcard I can see those ringtones from the default list, but that is not what I want. I want to be able to choose ringtones from the phone memory. It's doesn't matter if is not on the default list.
if any of you know how to do that, please help me

You can choose your ringtone through the music application.
I don't know about notifications..( I choose it through GO SMS app)

yes you can choose the ringtone through the music application, but the music aplication can read the music on the phone memory :S
I want to do this because i don't wanna depend on the sdcard to have the ringtone that I want.

You don't have to convert the file type from mp3 to ogg,, u just have to put that mp3 file in /system/media/audio/notification or ringtones. (remember to mount system permission as r/w).
After that, reboot your device and change ringtone through setting menu,,

ok.. I did the same thing.. used root explorer to copy the ringtone to the phone memory.
saved it in system/media/audio/ringtone
but my music player didn't show it..
so I deleted an existing ringtone "breeze.ogg" and renamed my file as the same . now the sound picker shows breeze but it plays the ringtone I made...!

How to change alert sounds

I need longer alert sounds on the built in calendar app so that I can hear them. I have tried adding mp3 files to /system/media/audio/notifications but the folder won't accept them. I cannot find any way of calling sounds from another folder (eg the external card) within the app itself. How can I do this?

You need to be rooted to be able to copy files to the /system (and thus /system/media) folder.
If you are rooted, convert your mp3 to an ogg file with any audio converter and put the file in /system/media/audio/notifications and see if you can select it as your notification sound in the calendar.

Thanks, but I'm not rooted and wouldn't want to attempt to go down that road as I totally don't understand it.
Can anyone help me put in some useable alert tones please?
