A/C adapter - Dell Streak 7

I know the Streak 7 requires about 5.4 volts and something well over the normal 500mA to chage so not just any A/C to USB charger will work. Anyone know offhand of a good source for an adapter that will charge the 7 and preferably has a folding plug or the like so it's streamlined and also something that's rugged. I don't want a cheap $1.99 cent no name piece of plastic.
Thanks

Any 5v 2 AMP charger will work.

I too am looking for an a/c charger and would love an affordable recommendation. Ive looked everywhere and I find chargers that are like $24 (way too much) or like a dollar (don't trust it at that price). Thanks alot.

I have one HTC 5V 1A adapter from my old Hero that works (folding plugs), also LG 5V 700ma works as well (from Optimus One). I am sure these are slower at charging but they do work. Would be good for overnight charging.

Any ideas on a good, AA powered USB charger? I know AAs will get eaten pretty quick, but I have some Eneloops sitting around doing nothing and I'd love to get a little more juice on the go.
Juice on the go. Now I have a picture of a white Bronco slowly fleeing the cops down the freeway stuck in my head.

Thanks. I guess as long as they work it doesn't really matter how long they take to charge. Hopefully with all the tablets coming out, a/c to USB 2 amp chargers will become more accessable at lower prices. Until then ill just use a 1 amp charger.

I got that one, but it only worked for about 20 seconds and then never worked again. I got a replacement, same deal. It seems very cheaply made and heats up very quickly. I made sure my Eneloops had a full charge, too.

I use the newest iphone 4 (white phone) usb plug. The printed spec says 1 amp, but it works fine, I am assuming it is the same unit as the ipad, but a different sticker. iphone 3 plug did not work.

Yeah, i thought it looked shady. But hopefully the cheap 1 amp charger i bought will work. There were some promising rechargeable external batteries on amazon, they run like 60 bucks but they put out an amp and look like they are high quality.

The charger that I bought works great! I'm sure its a little slower charge than the original charger but it is much easier to travel with. Link below replace "DOT" with ". "

naw not same as ipad charger that charger is kinda big about 2X2X1 with foldable plugs and also removable plugs to attatch an extension

fyi....1amp is definitely fine. Their car kit includes a 1amp 12v usb charger. Kinda peeved. I was expecting a 2amp one similar to the ac one that comes with the streak. Thankfully I only paid $7 for the car kit which is pretty much what I'd pay for another dock cable.

Is 1Amp enough to charge with the screen on the brightest setting while using gps and wifi ?
Also, I ordered 3 cables from china for $9 total. Ill let you know if they work properly and if so ill link them. Im planning on a cable mod for usb-otg on one of them. Will report back. Also, anyone have a complete pinout on the dock connector? Trying to find out if the only charging pins are the ones used for usb connection. We are going to need to be able to charge while supplying power via usb to devices. Thanks!

I haven't re-downloaded copilot yet since upgrading to DJSteve's 3.2. So I haven't tested everything out yet. Have my hotspot though so I theoretically can. With more 2amp chargers out there, it should be a moot point though. I just picked up a dual one that has both a 1amp and 2amp. With the loaner car at the moment, I'm kinda just dealing with the usb port for charging. Kinda cool it even has usb.
I will say, the viewpad 7x is catching my eye though. And with HC on the Dell, resell should be easy. Just saying.

Edit.
I picked up an OEM HTC USB wall charger 5v 1Amp.... it does Not charge it with screen on, wifi on, and gps

I assumed it was pad, but I guess it is just an iphone charger. Its a small cube with usb slot. Charges unit with no problems.

USB to Power Outlet adapter?

Where can I buy more of the little adapter that you plug the USB cable in to, then plug the adapter into to your wall power outlet?
I'm planning on coupling it with this cable: monoprice!com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5459&seq=1&format=2
My Incredible charges MUCH faster when plugged in to a power outlet than it does when plugged in to USB.
I just bought two off of Ebay that I will be trying out. I will let you know if they work which ones they are. I do know that the one from Monoprice.com doesn't work well so I would avoid that one.
Ok I got a few of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=2#ht_500wt_1182
"PLO" brand "Powerbug" - meant for GPS devices but they work perfect with the incredible. 5v, 1A, 5watt (same as stock HTC charger). I got two at $8 each so not bad. They are nice looking compared to the generic Monoprice usb charger.
EDIT ** Don't think these have as much power as the stock charger. Spare parts states "Charging (USB)" when using these, so it's like being plugged up to a computer. Still a good deal at $8
The usb to wall plugs from monoprice are no good. I ordered several before I knew better. None of them worked properly...or for Any longer than 20 minutes.

It sure does, however, if you take a look at the picture, its simply a USB slot that the mini-usb cable plugs into, which means that any USB cable could work as the OP asked about. I'd say this would work well. However, I grabbed http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powerduouniversal and it works great and I can just move my cable from my car to my house and have power everywhere.
don't buy aftermarket USB A/C adapters unless it's just for an overnight charge. You can't use the screen when using an aftermarket adapter. It's quite annoying. every single touch screen phone I have had has this problem.

Yes I bought two and both of them work fine. Not sure if they charge as fast or not as the STOCK charger, but they are rated the exact same. The only thing I don't like about them is they have a blue light around the USB port. I found those at $8 each which is a lot better than paying $30 each somewhere else. I found these in another thread and the person was finding them even cheaper at some discount store I had never heard of. I'll leave one at work, one out in the garage or somewhere. The HTC charger will stay in the bedroom.

That's not true. While the monoprice wall charger DID have a screen issue, the screen works perfectly fine with these chargers. And I used all kinds of chargers with my previous HTC Touch and never had a screen issue.

I have several aftermarket USB AC heads that work just fine with the Incredible. All of them purchased some time ago.
I've been using my old iphone power blocks without any problems, though its only been a couple days if charging.
Depending on the price, you may be able to snag some fairly cheap with all of the companies that make cheap iphone/ipod accessories. Unfortunately I have enough power blocks so I don't have a need to buy/test any others.
I would be curious about other peoples experiences though.

I have some Ipod AC adapters as well. I was thinking they'd be safe to use since lower amp for the Incredible... but what of the reverse? Can you use the Incredible AC wall block safely on other devices? It's 1A instead of the .5A for Iphone/Ipod.
I'm trying to travel with less charges!

Clicked thanks on accident lol. Any USB car charger should work, but I would make sure you grap a 1 amp one just so it has enough output to charge the tablet at a decent rate.
probably better with a 2amp one. samsung makes one for the tab2, about $12 on amazon, and just use your own microusb cable to connect to it.

Yup, go with a 2Amp one. Most of the cigarette lighter usb chargers are 2.1A.
Avoid the cheap Chinese 2+Amp car chargers, they can be so badly made they cause enough interference to wipe out your FM radio.
/edit 1Amp will be fine but don't go lower, the N7 would likely burn it out.
FYI I tried a 5v 1a wall charger and my gnex7 said f u wouldn't take the charge. 2a or nothing I say

Do you already have the Nexus 7? If so, can you take a look at the charger and see if rated at 1A output and/or try to charge it with a charger that came with your phone?
I am just curious if it can actually charge with less than 2A. The charger listed in the Play Store outputs 2Amps and I thought most tablets require 2A to charge.

Still waiting, should only be a couple of days now though...
I know this is something most people never do...but if you read the manual for the Nexus 7 it says you can charge it on a standard USB port with the Nexus 7 in sleep mode (no doubt because the power draw is much less). Standard USB ports are typically .5A...sometimes less. I would say that's the actual minimum. For the fastest charging 2A is what you want though.
The ASUS charger that comes with the N7 is rated at 2A (10W). I tested an old BlackBerry 0.85A (~4W) micoUSB charger and it seemed to work fine and the N7 didn't complain though I didn't do any scientific tests against the charging rates.
The 0.5A (2.5W) chargers probably won't even charge the unit if you're actively using it.
Cheers,
Kermee

Yeah...read my previous post...the manual says you can charge on a standard usb port (0.5A sometimes less) but only if the Nexus 7 is in sleep mode...ie you're not actively using it. If you can't charge it while connected to USB and it's in the sleep state...then your usb port is probably a low power USB port (<0.5A).
For those looking for a good backup battery charger for it...I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGKR54/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
works perfectly with my Nexus 7 (just make sure to use the correct USB out port on it as only one of them is 2A)
DealExtreme Charger
Saw this one on DealExtreme, even come with cable:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/car-ci...-port-for-google-nexus-7-tablet-146751?item=8
Will be ordering will update when arrives. Also they're carrying Nexus 7 Cables in Pink, Green and Orange.
Was using a Sprint micro-USB plus charger (model PVX8823) with attached cable and standard USB port for 2nd device that I was using for my phone. Output is 0.65Amp which isn't sufficient and will slowly drain the N7 battery while in use. ~$35 at Sprint retail store. Wouldn't recommend for obvious reason.
Fortunately, had a spare Motorola SPN5400A 1Amp I bought with some screen protectors from Amazon because it was cheap like ~$5. 1Amp is sufficiently to maintain the charge while in use at near worse case running 3D games like Dead Trigger, Shadowngun, etc. So, 1Amp is minimum threshold.
You need a charger that:
1) Is capable of 2A (1.5A may be sufficient, 1A is a little too low)
2) Shorts D+ and D- together - This rules out most iPad chargers.
If it says it is made for iPod/iPad it will not work without modifications or adapters.
Samsung tablet chargers will work.
If you take an iPad charger, open it up, and short D+ and D- together, it will work.

Most chargers for android phones will work. I use my HTC charger for ,mine and I bought a car charge that has the standard micro USB connector but also has another USB port so I can charge 2 devices at the same time with 1 charging unit. You droid razor charger will work just fine. You just need to locate a charger that is capable of charging 2 devices at the same time such as this one

Check out this oem charger from Sprint. Its a dual port charger with a 2a output and you dont have to worry about buying a knock off charger that may or may not perform as expected. It also can be used as a wall charger. Good price too....

So are any of these confirmed 100% to work? the one a few links back (GTMax) says works with iphone, and I thougth that meant would NOT work with N7. So I am confused on what will work, and I am already on my 2nd Nexus7 being I blew out the USB trying a bunch of differnt chargers for the car.
I would like something that is small and can have multiple USB plugged in, but not a show stopper, just hope to find something on Amazon (Prefer Prime) so I can oder with my case today. Really want to use this in the car more (GPS\GoogleMusic..ect.), but with no power not a great option.
Thanks in Advance,

2A Charger Please

I have read countless threads and looked at many chargers and I just can't seem to find a 2a car and a 2a home charger. I just ordered this charger and this cable and it just doesn't work above 700ma. When I use the stock cable I get to 1300mah for a sec and then about 900 steady. This is on both ports. Someone please help me before I lose it! The only one that works at 1500mah is the cable and charger that came with my phone.

Thanks in advance.
Well, I can say from repeated certainty that this 6' cable charges at the same rate as the stock cable but is actually nice.

Also, my Qmadix car charger with dual 2.1A ports does very near stock AC levels when charging 1 device. My results are in the mega 2A car charger thread, but that's a spendy charger.

I'm also looking for 2A replacement... How's the charging time compare to the stock Note 2 charger?
how do you measure the output while the device is charging? Is there an app to test how much juice is coming in real time?
I use a 2A HP Touchpad charger in my living room and a T-Mobile branded 3A dual USB charger in my bedroom (see links below). The T-Mobile charger charges my Note2 from 9% to 100% in less than 2 hours when I only use 1 of the USB ports. I'm not sure what the rate is when both ports are used. I've had this for a couple years and use it to charge (individually and simultaneously) my phones and tablets without any problem.

I bought http://item.mobileweb.ebay.ca/viewitem?itemId=130783773578this expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised at how well it works on my Note2. The only thing is the usb cord is not very long and you have to have it plugged in so that the phone is charging for it to work, but for the price is awesome.
I ordered one just like that off of ebay as well and it works for me too. They all have to be plugged in to power to work.
Well I learned something today. This is my 2nd Samsung phone and first experience with mhl adapter and didnt know it HAD to be plugged in. Thanks.
Thanks for the link.. at $12 it's a cheap enough gamble.
Can you detail where the length is lacking? Easy enough to add an extension for length?

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

So it has to be plugged in? I gave one and couldn't get it to work

The HDMI part of the cable is 6 feet like advertised but the usb power part is less than half that length. I have a usb extension cable somewhere but can't find it to try it :banghead:

That's what's posted up a bit and mine wouldn't work without power source. Learning curve lol.
One thing I did notice is that even with it plugged in and "charging" after a couple hours on watching you tube the phone dropped from 80% to 72% battery so not really sure if it's charging or if it just takes that much power. I was using the wall charger that came with my phone so it should have been getting the 2 amps.
I think this mhl cord probably only allows 500ma. Something I use to counter that is this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nkahoang.screenstandby
It allows you to turn off your screen, because even on the lowest brightness it still eats up the battery.
Good thread. There are a couple on amazon like this as well
For those of you who shop at monoprice, their 11 to 5 pin adaptor is back in stock and they even bundle it with an mhl adaptor.
I can't link to it as I just registered here, but it's under accessories>cell phones

USB car charger

I have a few of the belkin/off brand dual USB auto adapters. But they all have output of around 500mA so basically when using bluetooth and GPS on the rd I'm drawing more power than I'm getting. I've looked around on amazon for some usb adapters but seems like a lot of them for some reason only really fast charge with IPads or other apple devices and for some reason they slow charge android devices. Apparently iphones have some sort of communications with the chargers to draw more power.
So my question is does anyone have one or know of one that works with the G2 and fast charges. I'd prefer one that is flush like my existing belkin and not one that sticks out a few inches. Dual ports would be nice, but at this point I'm not picky. Having said that, I'd like to not spend $30 on it.
To add to it, I installed some battery monitor widget and while in the car today I just popped it open and noticed that it said "USB Connected Discharging" So basically It actually drains power quicker than if it wasn't connected to the charger at all!

There is a long thread on this already.

It seems that the bigger issue is not finding a 2amp charger, but a USB cable with the correct gauge similar to the oem one. I believe the oem cable is 20 gauge and I believe I found one on Amazon.

I don't get why it's such a difficult thing to find? Doesn't LG make a car charger that charges it's own phone?
I use my older Motorola ones and they work fine. Not full 2 amp but I can stream iheartradio or Pandora and the phone will charge up still. But the screen is off, not like using GPS. Still would like a fast charger tho.
I have an Anker 24w 2 port charger and it charges my phone as fast as the wall charger. I tested it with a charger doctor and it does read 1.8a current flowing thru.

I got a charger made by rocket dog I do believe for best buy best car charger I've ever had and it has an extra usb on the top

It's not the charger that seems to be the problem. 2a Chargers can be had in many places. It seems a 20 gauge wire is the difference.
Here is a link to a post I made in another thread with a tested and working setup in my car
Cheap too.

No, the problem is the op isn't using a charger designed for Android.
