The first account set becomes the default account. You cannot change the default account without hard reset

I needed to do this and didnt want to do a hard reset so found a simpler way - i9000 but im sure it will be the same!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087496
Only thing i found was that the market didnt show installed apps because its a different account. But you can still search for the apps and then update them. Once you have done that they are linked to the new account.

I had observed that many a times when I applied a new theme I lost the google account and had to sign in again. Once, after applying a new theme, I signed in using a wrong account and of course no apps showed up in market. So I again copied Market (vending.apk) from this theme to /system/app and rebooted, but nothing changed. Then I copied settings.apk to /system/app but same result. Then in one go I copied "Contacts.apk", "DialerTabActivity.apk", "MMS.apk", "Settings.apk", "Vending.apk", "framework-res.apk" and "twframework-res.apk" to respective locations and on rebooting found that I had to sign in again. So it is definitely one of these files which caused the wrong account to be removed. If you have any of these original files or from a theme you like, just replace them and see.

I was also wondering about same.
For some reason data folder is shown to be empty.
Instead of tapping data ,type "/data/system" in explorer (I am using OI file manager
).
You will get where you want

Use root explorer... works pretty nicely.. simple and powerful...

Thank you.

Works every time. Thank you!

Its the framework-res.apk that links the accounts. If you change this on any ROM you will loose the google account. Back up the accounts.db in two locations on your phone:
/data/system/accounts.db
and another one somewhere I can't think of now? Its possibly in my bookmarks on my root explorer?

I have Recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2 and i can't write the " _ " in the console with "alt" and "r".
Update and clearing dalvik-cache also didn't help...
Slowly i become desperate with this problem.
It came when I deleted Ndrive, because i wanted to update to newest version...
Oh, i also can't open the setting option "Data synchronization"...
Last time i have deleted some apps in system/apps with root explorer because i wanted to delete amazon mp3 etc.
Have i delete a important app???
How do i fix it without a complete wipe???
Noone idea what i can do???
Update/Reflash of CyanogenMod didn't help and i don't want to wipe all...

RA-Recovery has an option under "Other" called "fix uid mismatch", this is the command you want, same as fix_permissions in cm-recovery. if you cannot type an underscore in RA-recovery console, you should check that thread to see if this bug has been reported, if not you should please report it so it can be fixed. thank you. good luck, just run "fix uid mismatch" under "other" in recovery and let us know if that fixes it...

Can you Log in to Gtalk and Gmail or do you get the same Issues?
I had this In all google apps when I had a google.partner.setup FC. Kept me logged out of my Google account with no way of getting back in (That I could see)
I had to Wipe, Install a previous (older) version, Sign in, and then Reinstall ROM WITHOUT a data wipe. Worked a treat as a work around

OK, thanks for tip borodin1.
Just want to add this in case anyone runs into same thing. I switched from CM to Super D, I used backup for root users and let it restore everything and had this problem. It may confuse your apps so I had to wipe and reload apps a different way. Market works fine now. Just wanted to throw that in.

[Q] I stupidly uninstalled gmail, how to get it back?

Long story short, gmail kept freezing on me so I used Titanium to uninstall it and now gmail doesn't show up in the market and the apk's that I download don't give me the option to install them.
Any ideas?
I was able to get the Android email program to sync with gmail, but I still can't figure out how to get the actual gmail program back on.
Sorry, didn't mean to hit "Thanks". Don't know where you got the gmail apks, but try putting one of them in system/app then reboot.
You also might want to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937752 but just run the commands for gmail

I assume you're running stock rooted.
Try this,
1. Download the signed Gapps.zip from here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642189 its in the second post.
2. Now from the zip file you downloaded. Extract the Gmail.apk and GmailProvider.apk. Using root explorer. Copy those files into system/app
(of course make sure you mount r/w)
4. Reboot your nook and you should have Gmail again.
Make sure you back everything up as always.
It worked for me. Hope it works for you as well.

I'd recommend doing what racks11479 said. But to see the system folder, get Root Explorer. It lets you see the deeper folders. Just don't break anything while you are down there.

You might not have the correct permissions set.
If you are able to ADB to your device. I've modified the honeycomb market install script from "jleecong" @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937752 for the Eclair Gmail only.
All you gotta do is extract the zip to your adb directory and run (double click) "GmailInstall.cmd" and you should be good to go.
**As always *Use at your own risk* and make sure you've backed up.**
Hope this works for you.

Wondering if the gmail from eclair might be the answer to a similar problem I have. Been rooted since version 1.0 and gmail app would sync nicely. Rooted 1.1 using the nookdev instructions and that is working fine except gmail simply doesn't sync unless I go into accounts, reenter my account data and the sync screen comes up and then it'll sync. The android email app works just fine. Syncs seamlessly. So would replacing things help?
You could always google it

Question about your script.... I have a Nook Color that I have rooted and all set up. I'd like to pass it over to my buddy, but need to change my gmail info for his. Would this essentially allow me to do that without having to unroot, restore, reroot then reregister?
I am looking for a way to completely root a device with my B&N and gMail info, then allow someone else to register/set-up the device with their info. Possible?
If you just go into settings and About Device and do a "Erase and Deregister" you should still have root. And once rebooted they will have the option of registering the device for the first time.
They will have to go through the LogicZoom welcome process as well. So you might want to guide them in that direction if they don't know what needs to be done to get youtube and market working for the first time.
I've just done it myself to see if it works and yes it does.
Please use my suggestions as a guide. All actions you take are "solely your responsibility"
Just make sure you do a backup "just in case" before you try this.

Thanks, I will try this again with them. I wish I could be in person, but this is a phone support situation for me (grrr).
From the way they described to me, the "Erase and Deregister" worked for the B&N part but my gmail account was still there. So it didn't completely remove their stuff. Google Talk and the Calendar are still stuck on my gmail and not theirs.
Will try again though, and if anyone else has input I would appreciate it, thanks!

I renamed my the stock Gmail.apk to Gmail.apk.old and the same for the stock GmailProvider.apk.
Then I did as you suggested through Root Explorer. Now I have no Gmail at all in my apps list after a reboot.
I tried to launch it directly from Root Explorer but it says "There was an error parsing the package."
I renamed the new files Gmail.apk.new and GmailProvider.apk.new and renamed old files back to their original. I rebooted and Gmail popped up again in my apps list.
Why did your method for the new Gmail files work for someone else but not for me? What went wrong?

quote from android market downloading issues FAQ:
Android Market disappearing after Android 2.2 Update We're receiving reports from some users that the Android Market app is disappearing after receiving the Android 2.2 update. We're working with carriers and device manufacturers to resolve the issue and restore your access to Android Market.
In the meantime, if you'd like to resolve the issue immediately, we recommend performing a factory data reset on your device. Please note that this will reset your device to its original state, and while your media content (photos, music, etc.) will not be deleted from the SD card, applications and their related data will be uninstalled. To perform a factory reset:
Go to Home > Menu > Settings > Privacy
Press "Factory data reset"
Press "Reset phone"
Your phone will restart, and after everything resets you'll be able to access Android Market again. Note that in some devices the "Factory data reset" option may be located under a different menu item, such as Phone Storage.

or get a root file explorer program off the market for free,
get the app "SGS Tools" use it to "run script" > mount system RW
drop the apps in /system/apps/ with your explorer app
use "SGS Tools" again to "run script" > mount system RO
or buy the app root explorer. it has the RW RO button built in. so no run script....
or flash a custom rom..
or try a factory reset again...
^ A simple reflash of the ROM cleared up the problem of the missing apps for me.
Went from GR-12 to Subpression 3 and had the missin app problem...reflashed Subpression 3 and was good to go and then updated to 3.2 and no problems there either.
edit: I realize the OP said they reset their phone to factory settings, but I thought I'd leave my post anyway just incase someone flashed a custom ROM and experienced this problem.
I just had this issue after installing a theme and simply extracted the GR12 files on my SD card and installed the Market and vending apks.

[Q] Contacts process force close after removing some bloatware

Would really appreciate some help.
Removed some bloatware via Titanium Backup, and of course, I got trigger happy.
process com.motorola.contacts (Contacts force closes)
process com.motorola.conversations (text messaging force closes)
So I have Root Explorer and got a hold of a system dump for Bionic.
I started by moving YahooContacts.apk (one of the apps I guess I shouldn't have uninstalled) back to the /system/app folder...but it doesn't show up anywhere as an installed app (just that the .apk was moved). If I try to actually select the .apk and try to install it says "Application did not Install" but the .apk IS moved.
Processes still don't work after moving.
I would appreciate any help, at this point I can't text or place calls. Thanks in advance, this forum helped me with the entire root process.
You cannot freeze/remove ANY of the other authenticator apps, it will cause contacts to freeze. I ran into that on the Droid 3.
First off there is no need to delete/remove, Freezing them accomplishes the same thing but most importantly it allows you to reverse what you have broken by Defrosting it. Do yourself a favor stop deleting and start freezing. If 16GB is not enough internal storage for you then you might consider an external HD from Seagate!!!!!!! LOL
I realize I made a big mistake. That's totally on me But it's in the past
Do I have any options to get this working again? I am definitely going to freeze apps in the future.
If I did delete an authenticator process, is there any way I can get those back? Would they be available through a system dump?
I believe that you need to make sure the permissions are correct after reinstalling an apk to the system/app folder. I've never done this, so I'll let you do the research. I've heard you can use root explorer to do this or a script with terminal emulator. Sorry I can't help more
I have the exact same problem, and am attempting to troubleshoot this issue on a different forum, however I am not allowed to post links but I'll try and keep you updated.
Edit: It's not a problem with permissions, I've made sure that they're correct with root explorer. It seems to be a Bionic-specific issue. I might just return it at this rate.
Thankfully, there's an unroot to use. I think im in the same boat. re-added all the yahoo related .apk and .odex and set permissions/owner, still nothing. Unroot and hope the Verizon dude is in a good mood!
Except now ADB is throwing "ERROR: ADB could not be granted root access" when trying to unroot
excellent.
Someone in the thread I was talking about had some success, its on droidforums dot net, droid bionic forum, bionic support, HELP! accidentally deleted IMSCServer from Droid Bionic thread. Maybe you can try something I haven't.
just do a factory reset thats what i had to do as I had the same problem.
I tried that, it didn't work... Did you actually get your system apps back? Did you do it through settings or the recovery menu?
i froze my bloat thats prob the difference and it was yahoo that caused the problem for me...

It really begs the question why anything with Yahoo is required by the system. Furthermore, why did they make it so frustratingly hard to reinstall system apps on the Bionic? Really disappointed in Motorola for this.
Here is the fix for Contacts, restore these files and set correct permission, reboot and presto Contacts fixed
That did it.. I have been looking for the YAHOO Contacts.apk file for 3 days with a bloody wortheless phone that I spent 300 shells on!
BTW I agree with Glimmerman, WHY DID YAHOO get involved in contacts? Talk about a sneaky way in integrate them.

Sorry if I'm newbtastic here but what do I do with these APKs and odex. I tried installing with ES explorer but it would not install. Am I supposed to move these files somewheres? /system/app then try install ? Thanks

{help}Fixing Permissions

Guys.. I am getting a problem now a days with fixing permissions.
On stock kernel using GDX ROM, I used to fix permissions via xRecovery
but after using custom kernel (Alfs) I am not able to fix permissions as there in no option of fixing permission in CWM Recovery and xRecovery not accessible.
Is there any other tool that can be used to fix permission ?
Is there anyone who will help me...?
please guys do some reply.. My applications are not working without fix permission
If your phone can boot use console and:
su
fix_permissions
It takes 3 minutes on my phone.
If not, try entering by ADB, but i`m not tried that...

I have several applications which I used to put in /system/app
and select permissions like other applications in that folder
After that i need to enter xRecovery and perform fix applications.
BTW applications are
1. Launcher pro plus .
2. Passion quick office.
3. SEMC DESKCLOCK.
4. All google app update like youtube, google voice, voice search, gmail, google+ and also facebook
I don't like these applications in data folder as they eat phone memory . I used to simply put these files in system folder. All are useful for me.

Hey man, what you told me.
Now, after reboot my phone every application get FC again and again like phone FC, Music FC, and many applications.
I think I should have to revert back to Stock kernel. Bye....
