Camera button acts like volume button - FroyoMod 2.9 - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hey guys and gals
Been reading these forums but this is my first post.
I can't post in developer section so this is the problem.
I installed FroyoMod 2.9 and now my camera button acts like volume button and I can't use camera button for taking photos.
It could be as simple as 'turn of this feature' but I tried everything including installing some other camera apps.
Thanks!

hate to bet the cynic here - but this happened prior to my phone effectively bricking (stuck in bootloader). could be a broken button?
software seems unlikely to me.

Don't think so because after i enter the camera app by clicking the on screen icon it works (camera button then works).

yeah, i never said it was your software, your software is probably fine.
your hardware ( camera button ) may be broken, though.

Camera hard button not working

I don't really use the camera on my Kaiser, but I've just notice that on pushing the camera button it does not start up. No problem selecting from the program list.
Check that the button was set up correctly in the settings screen. I then changed the button to operate another program, but that doesn't work either. Somethings up with the button itself. I do get the "audio click" confirming the button has been pressed but nothing else.
Any ideas?

From what you say it sounds like you are well aware of how that switch works and that it has two levels of operation (half press and full press). With full press - required to start the camera, it really is a deep press, going down below casing level.
I assume though you know this and have tried pushing in as deep as it will go. It is obviously at least partially working hence the audio sound.
To be honest a hard reset might well fix this and if not the a repair under warranty for a hardware fault could be done.

That's it. It works now. What's the half press for?

Half a press focuses the camera and then a full press takes the picture.
Previous models didn't have auto-focus

Yes indeed, it's also configurable in settings so you can change the half and full press behaviour.

Keyboard not working

I have a problem with my Kaiser. The keyboard and the front buttons do not work anymore. Only the center front button and the right side stand-by button are working.
I read here on the forums that it can be a software problem? I didn't made any rom update or other chages, I used the phone as it was from the start. After 2 months of using I got this problem with the keyboard. Any advice or should I get the phone to the Service?
I tried soft reset and after that a hard reset (I backed up the data with Sprite), but the problem persists.
Another thing: not making any changes in keys mapping I noticed that the right side stand-by button was mapped for voice recording! That was quite strange, when I activated the screen in the same time it began recording voice. I correctly remaped the button as it was, but again I don't know how it changed by itself...
when you did the hard reset, did you restore your backup right away? or did you test the buttons right after the hard reset?
I've testet the buttons before making the restore. They had the same problem: not working and the stanby button was also mapped as voice recording.

after a hard reset the power button was set to voice recording? When you refer to the standby button, do you mean the power button?
If in deed you did a Hard Reset then the device would be back to default settings. If you are getting the power button mapped to voice recording then your device is f**ked up badly, or at least the ROM is trashed.
you sure you didn't try to flash your rom or SPL?

No, after the hard reset the voice recording was still mapped... When I reffer to the stanby button I mean, yes, the power button.

Absolutely not! I am not a informatician to play with this kind on mods and installs. I only had my software (YM, iGo etc). Never tried to update or change the rom or the SPL.
If it is like you say, this it can't be repaired in the service?
the same problem, but i have a little more strange things:
- device still mapping power (standby) button for voice commander, even after few hard resets without restoring any previous data
- holding power button mapped for record, so after hard reset, even before aligning screen, device starts recording
- when i'm on a desktop, pressing twice power button (off/on), device going to calling screen and trying to found contact that starts with "edfc"
- when i'm in contacts, pressing twice power button (off/on), device trying to found contact in search, that starts with "edfc"
- keyboard doesn't work, front buttons also too
- when i'm typing any message in notes, for example, i can't erase it - backspace button on virtual keyboard doesn't work also
So, what are you thinking about that? Can anyone help me?
Added:
- can't get into bootloader screen (power+camera+reset)
- in Android front buttons are works, keyboard - too, except 4 buttons. guess which? e,d,f,c
Added:
- re-flashing SPL and few ROM's doesn't help
Anyone?
Or I need get prepared to buy another one?
definitely sounds like a hardware issue. you could disassemble it and check if there are any lose connectors
ok. i've checked with another motherboard and the problem is - ... motherboard. can't be more specific right now, i'll try to find out more.
sigh.....sounds spendy. Been having the same issues, if its the motherboard dont know if i should just hold out on fixing it for a touch pro 2 and use my old nokia for a while. hmmmm, hopefully its not something super spendy. Never thought i would miss my tilt so much T_T

T-Mobile Wing: Camera Button no longer works

The camera button on my phone no longer works and I'm trying to see if it's related to a possible bad flash or simply the button failed after a year. During the flashing process, there was some sort of error which failed ultimately. I re-flashed my phone and soon realize my camera button no longer works on the same day. I am able to open up the camera shortcut and use the middle keypad to take pictures. This happened out of the blue.
Yes, the camera button is set to open up the Camera in the Today/Button settings menu. I am unable to get into bootloader by to flash any micro ROMs. I flashed my phone to three other different ROMs and it's no use. The roms work perfectly except for my camera button. I do not need solutions on how to get into the bootloader menu. I searched and found answers to that question. My only question is could the bad flash result in my camera button malfunctioning? All my other buttons work fine. Thanks for the replies in advance.
P.S. - I rarely use the camera button for pictures/videos except for SD card flashing. I found this problem when I wanted to flash back into Ivan's JustStable micro but I couldn't get to the bootloader menu.

[Q] Camera shortcut

Im not able to open the camera app on my HD7 by pressing the camera button.
No matter if its locked or not.
Anyone else having this problem, or am I doing something wrong?

Press fully and hold for about a second until it vibrates. Also, make sure not to put your fingers on the proximity sensor, since if it doesn't detect ambient light it'll think it's inside a bag/pocket and you pressed accidentally, so it won't turn on.
Are you sure you pressed strong enough?
The button is a bit weird. It's a 2-step button and you have to press it to the second step. (I hope you understand what I mean)
Thanks guys. While I found out about the two step button myself (after trying desperately to take a picture ) It seems I never pressed long enough (and probably covered the sensors a couple of times too)

[Q] Milestone: Stuck in bootloader - Hardware issue?

So my milestone is Stuck in bootloader.
I have a fair theory on the cause of the problem, i'm here to ask your opinion/advice on what do do now.
My situation is this:
As soon as the battery is inserted, the display immediately powers on, and the phone starts in bootloader mode, displaying the standard 90.73 bootloader text (Bootloader 90.73, Battery OK, OK to Program, Connect USB, Data Cable)
The Bootloader is fully functional (from observation), I can use RSDlite to flash sbf files successfully with no errors.
I Cannot get out of the bootloader into any other software mode (normal or recovery) through any forseeable way.
events that lead up to this problem:
- a few days ago, the camera button became partially defunct, the phone would not register the first stage(focus) of the two stage(focus, shutter) button. I also noticed that for a brief time, the camera button press was registered as a volume down press. ( weird, huh? this seemed to be fixed by a restart )
- following this, the camera button became completely non-functional. the phone would not register any action from the button, and the button would not press down properly ( i suspect the button mechanism came loose? )
- the phone was fine for a day or two, ( with a non-working camera button), until yesterday, when the phone began to function as though the camera button was permanently held down OR being pressed extremely fast - ( camera launching constantly, video camera switching between recordings very fast )
What i did about the latter problem:
- i attempted to delete camera.apk, but i couldn't get to root explorer fast enough before the camera launched again, so i restarted from cm7 into recovery, and attempted to do it via the application management menus.
The camera button was calm for a while, then as i unwittingly forgot that the camera is used as select... it started randomly pressing menus.
(luckily no serious actions were taken, i was in the application management)
I attempted to restart by pressing Shift-Alt-Delete ( because that works in the system - is it a documented restart in openRecovery?)
It restarted into bootloader.
to test the bootloader was working properly, and pre-emptively, i flashed stock 2.1 system & flashed bootloader 90.78, and then back to 90.73.
And that's where I am now.
My theory
the broken Camera button, or whatever piece of circuitry it is attached to is telling the phone that the camera is constantly pressed, or a different button is - I mentioned earlier that it's function swapped with "volume down" temporarily when it first broke.
I think that this could be causing the phone to start in bootloader at each start-up.
( if this is the case, which it may not be... i assumed that i might be able to replace the button parts from another phone in mine. is this practical)
tl;dr ... phone stuck in bootloader, i think it's because the camera button is broken & malfunctioning. suggestions plz
thanks in advance, sorry for the essay.
