[Q] Flashing new firmware

Hi Everyone,
My first time diving into this forum. Sorry if the answer is out there already, but I couldn't find it
There are just so many threads in here about flashing..
I've had my Galaxy S for a few months now and rooted it with Z4root as soon as I got it. That was easy enough..
What I'm confused about is flashing new kernels to the phone.
As I understand it, these are the details about my phone which I obtained from the "About Phone" menu.
Samsung Galaxy S (Rooted)
Model number: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband version: I9000 ADJP3
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 (root - SE-S608 # 1)
Build number: FROYO.ADJP6
What do I have to always consider when choosing a kernel or rom?
Is it the current firmware version and the ADJP3part in my case?
For example:
I've been reading loads of websites about flashing firmware and came accross the samfirmware WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm website that lists all the Samsung Galaxy S related firmware.
I think it's pretty good and understand that I should only be looking at the European list in blue as I'm UK based.
Looking down the list I can see:
I9000XXJP3
512.PIT
Version 2.2
2010 August
According to the details I gave above. Is this is the version I currently have installed?
So where can I go from here?.. Can I only install the ones that have XXJP or can I install any of the others?..
Just not sure what to look out for and want to get my flashing adventure off on a good note
My advice would be to read the FAQS on the ROM Kitchin pages then build your own rom .

XXJP modem and CPW csc should cover all UK networks the rests you pick yourself .

[Q] Noob Firmware Update

Hello everyone,
I just received my Galaxy I9000, and made sure i can access the Download Mode and the Recovery Mode using the 3 button combos explained in the wiki.
I bought this phone in the united states, as an unlocked phone. Since i live in South America (Ecuador to be exact), i don't have an official version for this market and i'm using this international version I9000.
Checked the Firmware version installed and is the following:
PDA: I9000BUJP7
Phone: I9000BUJP5
CSC: I9000GVD2JP5
Build Info: 2010.10
Also checked the unlock status:
Personalization Status
Network Lock: OFF
Network Subset Lock: OFF
SP Lock: OFF
CP Lock: OFF
My phone's firmware is a provider one (Vodafone), looked in samfirmware to check for new firmwares, but i need some advice:
First, since my phone has a provider specific firmware, can i flash my phone with a "generic" samsung firmware?
If so which ones should i choose the European versions or the America/Australia firmwares??
I see in the list for europa versions this one as the last:
I9000XWJS8 ## 512.PIT Version 2.2.1
And for america this one:
I9000BVJJPD ## 512.PIT Version 2.2 2010 December
I was tempted to go for the european version but im just not shure.
Also what about the MODEM/CSC, do i need to flash those too? since those are also customized versions from the provider?
I dont mind loosing all the samsung apps, and the vodaphone ones, as they are pretty useless here.
Any advice on what is the best path to go from here is appreciated.
I bought this phone so i can learn to develop for android but im really new to this world.
Thanks
Search up goots tutorial. I think the CsC version just determines which stock apps get installed when you flash to be honest, I picked xeu because it's Europe generic but I dont think it matters
The froyo I had from goots link had multi CSC and you could pick and choose
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You can use latest European version np. Im on it now but im from Europe but was on JPG 1 week ago and its from Asia. CSC is what gives you your APN for data traffic and the keyboard languages included but u can swap that easily using the Romkitchen or u can input your provider data manualy. Modem is your wifi, data network and gps driver you can use any the one from JS8 is very good so is JPG one. With modem its possible that with JQ1 u cant acces the 850mhz band immediatly but there are allreadu solutions to fix that on this forum.
Best advice i can give u is follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926399
If u have more questions join us on IRC:

And for sure ill join IRC, thanks for the help ill be going through this process along the day (it's morning here)

[Q] Upgrading to Gingerbread without messing up Kies

Hi all,
I would love to upgrade my P1000 to Gingerbread.
At the moment the infos about my device are:
PDA: P1000XWJMI
PHONE: P1000XXJMA
CSC: P1000CPWJM2
This is what I see pressing *#1234#
Now the About Device menu says:
Model: GT-P1000
FW: 2.2
Baseband: P1000XXJMA
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: FROYO.XWJMI
As stated above I would like to upgrade to a stock gingerbread release so that Kies does not say unable to update your phone. I guess I need proper files to do that. Can anyone address me to the right links and of course the steps to do it via Odin (what to check/unchek etc)?
Thanks in advance,
Fed.
Read the development section. There are PLENTY of posts on how to do it.
Sorry, but the forum is full of posts and i can't find specific threads for my issue. Informations are here and there and as you know understanding one little bit badly could make me brick my P1000. I would need to know what software to use so that the phone regional settings do not mess with Kies. If possible a link to a post (or more posts) and links to softwares are welcome.
Oh, knowing how to make a dump of my actual ROM would not be bad if anyone can help.
Your present firmware XWJMI is European(Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom).....
Unfortunately there is still no official upgrade for your region from Samsung so whatever ROM you flash whether from this forum or elsewhere, Kies will always see it as "cannot be updated".
Unless you want to try the Asian firmware-like I have.......

2.3.6 is the Android version not the kernel version two separate things. I am looking for the v20p kernel source to see what lg changed so I can get a working cyanogenmod build with the baseband. You'll never get the 2.3.6 source lg does not have to release that.

Apparently LG found the issue and will be releasing a fix for ghost calls in April.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S II w/ CM9
sweet, but like I said in the previous post the kernel is separate from the android version. The kernel is 2.6.35 which has nothing to do with the android version of 2.3.6.
here the link its up if you guys wanna grab it its for v20p
