[Q] Battery Question, yes again :) - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hej,
I've been reading some review and some posts here on XDA.
Some have very good battery (2/3 days) some good (1/2 days) some have bad (0.5/1 day).
My questions is who to believe?
I want to get a HD7, cause I can get it dev unlocked and running Mango. Want to play with Mango. But I'm worring about the battery. I can get Omnia7 for 150 euros and HD7 for 250 euros. On Omnia7 a lot of people have good internet, but here the feelings are mixed.
My phone use:
2 Exchange, 2 imaps accounts
Twitter, Facebook.
I do a lot of whatsapp, but since it's not available for WP7....
SMS around 20 times a day.
Browsing for about 1 hour a day (including Facebook and Twitter).
On my LG Optimus 2X I can get a day/day and half.
How much would I get on the HTC HD7.
Hope you guys can help me out.

HD7 unbranded (buyed 22 December 2010, orginal battery), 7392 NoDo ROM, WIND operator.
IMHO, with your type of usage you should recharge every evening (if not before ...)
Comparing to my use:
1 Exchange (sync every 30 mins);
1 IMAP (sync every 30 mins);
10-15 SMS per day
30 minutes talk per day
Some FB session (3-4) just to read the "news"
And my HD7 last no more than 1.5 days (NO airplane during the night)
What bothers me is that as far as "tuning" I do I can not significantly increase the battery life.
For example also manually synchronizing the emails gain only a handful of hours.
Bye, Marco.

Battery lifetime?

Hello
I've just done a test with my phone. I put it into standby with
only the phone activated.
My config:
Todayscreen:
- phoneAlarm
- SPB Diary
- Mobile Shell
After one hour:
I lost 1%
I think that's quiet much? What do you think?
What are your experience? What are your configs?
Geko
Dunno...
That's hardly a very scientific endurance test, now is it..?
Mine lasts for at least 2 days with medium usage (an hour or so music everyday getting to and from work, some texting, some internet, some calls, some gaming while taking a dump , some showing off it's movies capabilities, and a sync a day keeps the headaches away)
I think that's pretty normal battery life for a mini-laptop which in fact it is....
yeah of course it isn't predicative but not using the Kaiser for more than an hour is hard. I get calls SMS and all that kind of stuff. Ok I could do it in the night....

I suppose you mean charging it...?
no I mean the testing. So i could leave it for about 6 hours untouched and test the batery life with my today plugins.

I bought kaiser 7 days ago.. and I've not get battery to last more than 24 hours....
My config:
. push email (GPRS, 3g disabled)
. 1 hour mp3
. 20 minutes phone calls
. 30 minutes writing notes with it
. 15 minutes bluetooth activesync
My HTC Wizard last 2 days with heavier usage... maybe the battery is too "young" and it needs more charges...
which programs do you have in windows startup folder?
ConfigureDevice.exe (what is this?????)
Pkg.exe (what is this??????)
batteryLevel
btdwake
poulook
sddaemon
Thanks!
I got:

incredible battery drain

first of all...sorry for my poooor english!
tuesday i've received my Kaiser (vodafone branded - Vodafone1615): i've charged it till 100% then i go to bed...
yesterday morning i've found battery @ 92%...
i'm always online with my exchange server but...till monday i've used a Wizard and i've never experienced this battery issue....
this morning i've done some calls (about 45 minutes) and listen some music via stereo bt....(10 minutes) and battery go to 42%
any idea? i have to ask support for my new pda?
thanks to all
Tommaso
Condition the battery properly and see what happens over a few days.
Mine lasts up to 3 days but average is 2 days of usage per charge for me. I am not a heavy phone user but I send and receive several text messages a day, and use the phone about 1 hour per day minimum but a max of 2 hours, have gmail getting pulled down every 30 minutes and windows live pushing email as it arrives. While at work all day I have a constant connection to 3G and at home I get Edge.
Make sure that your screen is set to the dimmest setting that is good for you
Make sure that your exchange and any internet is set to an interval that's the largest that you can handle
Make sure that you don't have any GPS applications running
Do registry tweaks or run kaisertweak and go through all commonly known settings to help this.

5 hours.. geez did you have everything on..
my NRG Rom lasted about 8plus hours with BT, 3G, and a lil Google maps action...
or maybe it's cuz i just got a new battery a few days ago, lol
5 & 8 hours???
Holy cow, my battery on vodafone uk standard rom lasts 3-4 days.
Daily usage is approx - 30 texts sent & the same recieved, 60 mins on the phone and a little bit of wifi updating weather, and maybe 20 mins a day browsing.
I have a couple of cooked rom's downloaded, but never seem to get the time to flash them.

LOL, i completely forgot about e-mail. mine is set to auto download (push) between 8:30am and 5:30pm, after that i'll pick it up on the laptop at home.
Luckily i don't get that much e-mail on the handset as i have 2 different work e-mail addresses and only my colleagues and clients have my main e-mail address.
e.g.
[email protected] is my main account and [email protected] is my public e-mail address that is listed on the company website, given out to people that call up, etc. (the j stands for junk)

the 4. shoot i forgot, but its the same as the at&t one, same numbers... lol
here it is!!! 4.46.25.24 - HTC
thats the one i am using now!!!
Battery use is not soley determined by ROM. Radio has a bigger part and the rilphone.dll should match your radio.
On friday I had 100% battery when I left home. When I geto back Sunday I had about 11% left with a good amount of use. I charged it back up, played with different radios to see which gave me best GPS performance. Had 50% charge when started testing and went down to 0 really fast.

Did you change the brightness setting? All energyROMS come with brightness set to max on battery.
Mine is at about 60% with one and a half days - mostly idle - email push this morning from 8 to now (4) and 30-40 minutes of phone calls, some weather checking (i am using manilla 2.5 so keep checking the weather - soooo pwetty!)

Disable push mail (set it to intervals of 30 minutes or so)
Enable the Auto-Backlight (or decrease the backlight as low as you can)
Use the phone for 3 days or so, and then your phone will be at optimal battery
Disable 3G, if you want even more battery
And probably more things.
As for which ROM gets best battery life...that can't be answered. Everyone will have their own favorite. I really don't find a difference between the ROM's. Of course, Manila 2.5 ROM's will use more power, since they have those flashy weather animations, etc. But nothing very noticable.
I was using the HTC Test WM6.5 ROM for a while with Push email and a bit of WiFi and stuff, and was getting just over a day.
I decided to go back to the Official ROM because of that reason. I now get 2 and a half days out of it. If I turn off push email it lasts a lot longer, of course.
Although ROM has a few input to battery performance, predominantly it is based on what radio you have and what you use your ur phone for.

Battery Life Comments

Well I am mildly disappointed at the battery life of this phone. With full "phone curiosity" mode turned on I am getting maybe 3/4 of a day worth of charge. As I get more familiar with the phone and some of the novelty wears off, I am hoping to get maybe 2 days? Anybody at that point yet to comment?
-Chris
yes, the battery is very inconsistant. sometimes it lasts over a day sometimes not even a 1/2 day. There are several forums that have posts about this. I am not sure whether its a set of dud batteries or something else.
had mine for 2+ weeks now, and my battery life is consistent, to where it really depends on my usage. 2-3 hours of talk time, Activesync constantly running with my Exchange server, i will usually get around 16-18 hours.
Now, granted, during the day, i will run various applications during the day, such as a Twitter client, browser, facebook, etc etc etc, and no huge variances in battery life
I agree, very inconsistant for me as well. Seems like most times is about 12-16 hours.
I can usually get away with a charge every 2 days with moderate talk time, push email, RSSHub updating every hour, facebook integration with contacts, weather, etc, etc.
One thing you guys might want to try if you haven't already - hook up the Wi-Fi. I previously had a Motorola Q with comparable services running and it would barely make it through the day. I honestly think the lack of Wi-Fi was its demise because I live in a stone house and get very poor reception.
So anyway, give the Wi-Fi a try and see if that works.
the choice is features or battery life. the nicer a phone, the lower the battery life. the lesser the phone, the better the battery life. a car charger should resolve most peoples battery issues with any phone.
or in a terrible case, call verizon say your battery is awful. they will send you one complimentary battery. now you have two, for free! keep one fully charged and change them out as needed.
My battery life is just fine... long full days @ work with constant txting, calls, vibrate on, data, etc... I did install cabs to stop push internet and reduce RAM consumption but nothing else.
I truly love this phone. It is the absolute best I have ever had.
I don't know, sometime I found Imagio drains more than it should be (My ram is around 48% free all the time with the help of HTC Ram clean). Somewhere near 100% (fully charged), it can fast down to 96 or 97 and sometime I saw figure jump continiously from 92 then 91 then 90.

Here is the "push internet" cab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
I installed it, took me to 48% on reboot but the phone quickly jumped to 80% again in no time. The only thing I really keep open is Google Maps.
I've turned of automatic weather updates, rss hub only updates every 8 hrs, etc... If I don't leave any data hogging apps open in the background, I can get through an entire day with moderate use.
I called Customer Service today. The guy told me that because I have an Exchange Account setup that 6 hours on a battery falls within the specs.
Maybe off topic a bit, but does anyone else have a problem with their phones not storing "Last Full charge" info?

[Q] IS-Firmware Update eats Battery

Since two weeks i have officaly upgraded my HD7 Firmware to the latest one with Internet Sharing. Since this date, my battery life is very short. Before the Update and with 100% Battery Power, i have 1 Day, 9 hours Time, after the Update with the same Battery Level only 16 -18 Hours.
Today i have downgraded to the last state via Zune an voila, now i have again 1 Day, 9 Hours remaining time with 97% Battery Level.
For some minutes i have written a mail to HTC Support and will wait for a response. Can anyone here report the same problem?
I'm having the same problem

Hello bilbo_b,
I seem to be experiencing the same problem as you are. And I have been searching everywhere for an explanation for this problem. I think it is really more of a software bug showing the correct/wrong values (at the moment i don't know which is showing the right values). Before the update, it was showing as mentioned, 1 day and xxx amount of hours. However, I found that it is not really accurate because it seems like although the values shown are different, I am actually having the same amount of uptime.
Has HTC replied you?
Regards,
Jiesen
Yes, they have replied, but not es expected. The supporter means, that there are new features in this new firmware and i must live with a little cheaper akku load. thats a shame. that are 15hours difference, thats not a short time of some minutes or one hour!. Again i have replyed to the support mail, that im not exited about the situation. the next response was a mail with some energy saving tips (disable WLAN, disable GPS and so on...). There was now a direct response, that they will investigate in to the problem. Thats the actual state since yesterday evening 6:00 pm German standard time.
what i can say is: it is not only a bug showing incorrect values. it seems that the showed times are most correct. my device has a real shorter life per day with the FW Update. I will wait now for new response from HTC.
I see...Seems like the only way to have longer battery life is to do nothing on the phone. If that's the case, then why have all those features right? LOL. I did try to talk to the customer service of HTC too. They told me to try a battery test i.e. turn off all services (turning on airplane mode), turn off all syncs etc. change the display to BRIGHTEST and screen lock to NEVER, from a full charge. If the battery goes below 60%, I am supposed to send in my device for a repair.
I have done that and it did not go below 60% but close. I guess that just rules out the possibility that it is a hardware issue. However, it does not really explain our problem here. . Looking forward to your updates! thanks bilbo_b
After getting no wise answer from HTC, i have updated my HD7 again. This time the 7740 Update and the HTC FW Update together (last time the 7740 was not available, only the FW). After Updating (which takes some more time as before) my battery was 100% and i have 1 Day and 11 hours remaining. i will see what going on the next days. i will watch this.
I gave up and finally decided to flash a custom rom. I have also just started using anker battery with a 1300mah capacity. I will let you know how it goes.
The battery works at the moment. all is fine. i hope this is now permanent. i will watch it further.
Edit 1: After 1 Recharge, i have 1 day and 15 hours remaining. the last charge was going down to 9% after 1 Day and 14 hours with normal use. great so far. today i will try internet sharing and will look at the battery again.
PS: normal use is: some surfing via WLAN, some surfing via GPRS at a high speed train. normal EMail via Exchange Push service, using of GPS, calls, SMS and so on. there was a 7 hours trip with a highspeed train and fast changing phone cells within this charge.
I got the internet sharing / HTC firmware update a few weeks ago and immediately it was very noticeable that, without changing my habits at all, the battery was lasting only about 50-60%% of what it used to. I used to never have to charge the phone in the middle of the day and would usually make it to 11pm no problem before having to charge. However in the last few weeks I was finding the battery dying at about 3 or 4pm, unless I started charging. I have spare batteries and these made no difference.
However, the 7740 update arrived for me last week and the battery is back to pre-internet-sharing levels; I once again make it through an entire day (unless I've been using internet sharing for a few hours; that does obviously use up a fair bit of battery). So obviously something was fixed by someone in that 7740 update, even though I've seen no announcements or change logs to confirm this.
