Poor battery life? - LG Optimus Black

Is anybody experiencing really high battery use when the phone should be sleeping?
The battery life on my p970 is crap!
With all services and apps stopped or closed it uses 100% battery with wifi on and over a 3g network (data off) within 24 hours. I'm not even using the phone in these 24 hours, its just been left on the side after a full charge... 23 hours and 2 minutes later and its dead.
I can get almost 50 hours out of my desire s with light>moderate usage, it was the same with my optimus one and moto defy.
So why does the phone use soooo much battery when it should be sleeping?
A 1500mah battery should easily give 2 days with light usage on froyo... But under 24 hours with no usage at all?

Are you using optimus launcher? Mine was the same, but since i change to go launcher and uninstall some.of stock widget and apps it's got better.. got 36 hour medium use.... It consumes 5% in 7 hour idle (when i sleep)..

Which one you uninstalled? You rooted phone and what were you use to remove that apps/widgets? Is there any possibility to recovery that apps if (in example) I need to service phone?

Well, i've rooted it and removed a bunch of widgets and services including LG home (as launcherpro was installed). Left it on the side for just under 2 hours and it's gone down from 51% to 32%, an 19% drop...
Think it needs to go on eBay

Some apps and widget like batery, cars, sns, news, etc but i keep the home launcher though.. Use titanium backup, and sure it kan be restored...
I don't think it is hardware problem, so just wait until custom rom release and tried it, it sould be significant battery life improvement..

I rooted mine, uninstalled a bunch of LG apps and widgets and removed apps i do not need, even Titanium Backup. I'm getting great battery now. After 38hours it's at 64% with light use.
I suggest getting a system monitor app to see what is using up resources when idle. I've used System Panel but i also hear good things about Whatchdog which has a free Lite version.
It's definately software related.

Try hard reset. If that does not work then root your phone and freeze or uninstall somewidgets, carhome etc...

Check your battery usage in Settings. I found out that my gallery app was using up all the battery. Make sure that your Picasa Sync and Google+ Instant Upload features are turned off. These two services use your Gallery all the time apparently...

its definitely a software problem with LG, before my OBlack would last only 24 hours even with 3G and wifi off (wtf!)
but after i killed all the services relating to LG (go to settings>applications>manage services) its now at 75% after 17 hours with 1 hour of wifi usage and some calls

Or just root the phone and uninstall LG crapware.
I just plugged in my phone after 3 days 15 hours and 29 minutes of use and i even had 18% left. That's 87 hours of use. I admit that it is light use, but i use it.

But you need to know which are safe to uninstall. I don't want to make system unstable or unusable.

I've rooted my device, uninstalled LG crapware, replaced default launcher by Launcher Pro, and use https://market.android.com/details?id=net.lepeng.batterydoctor, and my battery last longer.

Yeah the battery isn't bad once you root and uninstall LG apps. I consistently get 2-3 days without a charge with light to medium use.

Whoaa 3 days??? Did you disabled background data and turning off data and turned on only if you wanna use internet? Or no widget(s) installed?
Oh yeah I want to add another one reason why the phone battery drained out fast > carrier signal strenght and quality. If carrier's signal is not stable, your phone might have to work harder to maintain it to keep connected.

Battery use mobile standby

Hi,
I have a question about mobile standby. The last few days i noticed batterydrain and tried to find the problem. Standby uses about 48% of the battery ( 1 hour 10% battery from which 48% is standby) This isnt normal i hope. My HTC Hero has about 2-3% the phone isnt rooted because i wanted to make sure there are no hardware failures.
I already tried a hardreset 2 days ago and the problem isnt gone
Is there anything else i can try except calling LG and using VIP warrenty?
i have the 10a version with 20110223 baseband

Sometimes when you install or tun a program it stays in the active processes and it eats battery out. Go to sett/apps/running apps and manually kill what you think it shouldnt be running. Dont kill google services, system apps or keyboard!

It took me 4 days to figure this out. As a former Nokia user, I thought "Use wireless networks" under "Location & security settings" meant A-GPS, but no, it means the phone will triangulate between cell towers to get your location (and is actually pretty good in it). But the downside is that it drains your battery very quickly. I think my battery life at least doubled, or maybe even tripled after disabling this setting.
Could be auto-sync too, if you have it enabled.
Funny thing is, that the original LG weather widget eats even more battery (through Google Maps) than "Use wireless networks", nice work LG!

Mine's unrooted too, and I can't see anything else under "Battery use" other than cell standby eating huge amounts of juice. Guess it's right, since the phone uses cell radio to get your location, but it sure was tough (for me at least) to figure out why cell standby was so heavy on battery.
I used setcpu with 1 rule :
Screen of :
max 312
min 216
and the result was less than 1% after 1 Hour without 3G ... My Internetflat expired so i'll test it tomorrow with 3G
I dont use location from wifi etc, i used to do so on htc hero and hero lasted 2 days medium use.
just called LG helpdesk netherlands and must say im not impressed. Totally zero knowledge of android and phones, called to times both kind of unsatisfied by the answer. New try tomorrow because i want a proper solution from them. Lucky me and dutch warrenty laws

Hi, my phone was pretty a drainer too, at least 30-40% gone after I wake up.
So what I did was I froze up apps like the F-secure, SmartShare, email...etc, tried extreme setting in juicedefender, and removed the stock weather clock. And wow, after 6 hours of idle, it just used 4% battery.
Hi.
Strange thing to me.
i've just rooted and remove fsecure ect...
the program that run abitually are
Email LG, BW, gosms, alarmdroid, elixir, gmail, scoremobile, phono and FB.
yesterday: at 17.00 the battery was 100%..
i've used the phone normally, and at the 1'00 the battery was 62% about.
This Morning, at the 7.00, the battery was gone. 0%, phone was off...
How use more than 50% of battery in stand by?!
the other night the battery goes down at least 10%...
i don't understand...

[Solved] Battery drain even when idle

I charged my phone to 100 percent and left it untouched for 6 hours. Then a shock. It was down to 81 percent with absolutely no usage. Please help. I was not connected to either wifi or data.
Edit 1 : it drained from 81 to 73 for a 5 minutes use.

Akilesh - you need to see if any app was running. Over the weekend mine went from 60% down to 12% because Titanium Backup got stuck trying to delete an app and kept my phone running at 200mhz which will drain your battery. Go into settings/Battery and see if any app is at the top of the list. Your phone should not lose 19% if you dont have anything running/syncing etc. A simple reboot took care of the stuck Titanium Backup issue with me.

Hello Akilesh, you could use an app called BetterBatteryStats to monitor your battery usage statistics.
You could root your device and then install Titanium Backup Pro which will allow you to freeze or uninstall unnecessary pre-installed applications by Samsung, which are aptly termed bloatwares.
If you do choose to root your device, kindly follow this guide by dr.ketan, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I hope this helps a bit.

screen brightness is one of the prevalent causes of your phone's battery, lower it down to a minimum level. Check if you have syncing apps in the background too, Uncheck background sync datas or account in settings if you have then check.
Now, install cpu spy from google play https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5idmFsb3Nlay5jcHVzcHkiXQ.. and check if your phone is in deep sleep or not at all.
Also, quit using live wallpapers (if your using one), though as you said your not using your phone for 6 hours.. the fact that if you do have a live wallpaper running, that will still eat up your phone's battery juice.

maybe it's about high time you consider rooting your phone.. so that you can install titanium backup and shoot those power hungry apps that are hidden somewhere in the framework of your system.
Yeah I'll root in a short while cleo. And is titanium back up useful is reducing battery drain?
Sent from my Android Rocket using Xda Premium
titanium backup is a tool to uninstall and freeze unnecessary apps and samsung bloatwares on your phone. When your going to remove those apps, you are not just reducing power consumption that those apps uses daily on your phone... you are also freeing some ram spaces on your phone's storage.
BTW: My name's John and 'Letters to cleo' is a name of a band that I like most.
Cheers!

In case you opt for a free alternative to titanium backup, there is this app called "AntTek App Manager". I found it by chance and it works exactly likeTB pro (in terms of uninstall and freeze). You have to be careful while using either of these programs

Just got rooted again. Now freezed all bloat-ware. Will check out how it works and post back again.
Edit : Feel the phone running a bit faster after freezing some 15-20 applications.
dont forget to try recalibrating your battery as well.
Mind you, rooting has far more greater advantages than disadvantages.
Check later on if your getting that perennial issue or not anymore...lf by chance it had made some considerable differences, then your a happy camper..
Cheers bud!
If your phone is getting into deep sleep, it can't be any application! It has to be something to do with wifi/Network! If you run 3G, try disabling fast dormancy. That did me wonders!

Problem now solved. Simlply got rooted and flashed SpeedMod kernel K2-12, Entered recovery and wiped battery stats, now a solid 12 hours sleep compromising for a drop of 14%.
Battery Drain
Hi Guys,
I have similar problem. My battery started playing up and keep draining suuuper fast even at full charge. My phone and bat are already 11 months old but I don't thin the battery should die with this short time. I have data always on and screen brightness set to minimum and it has been like that since I have it with no problem. Now, after charging to 100% and removed from the outlet, then start opening an application, it will freeze and won't turn off. I need to remove the bat out to have it rebooted and it's still the when I try again. Other behavior is that the screen will flicker, will turn to airplane mode, and it will turn off even when fully charged when I launched an app. Note that (power saving is OFF and just the same when it's enabled) I can now only use my phone well when connected to charger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
there are a lot of people facing similar issues with more than 9 months old battery... mainly indicates a battery problem.. but first you should install betterbatterystats and check for wake locks and other apps using the phone when idle and eating up the battery..
My biggest drain according to bbs is Google maps, it's eating my juice when in idle, although I can get into deep sleep bbs says maps is causing wake locks.
Should I just freeze it with titanium? I don't really understand bbs much lol

I uninstalled all the games I had on my phone and battery afterwards was amazing. Not sure what games u had on ur phone but dead Trigger mass effect seemed like they used battery even if not played. Now star wars angry birds and contract Killer zombies 2 doesn't to use that much battery when not used. I think dead Trigger must be constantly be doing a task in the background. I got from 6 7 hours to 15 hours with 12% battery left. Not sure why some games in idle still or when not being played still eat the battery like crazy. So my tip is uninstall all games and see how it battery life is afterwards.

Facebook app is a battery eater, even when not in use. It's trying to sync contacts or others notifications constantly. Even when you disable those options.
Uninstall that app and use Facebook through a browser like Dolphin or so? That's what i do.
Also read the tips in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013469
I'll post my final configuration in that thread soon. I have my phone at stand-by now for 6 hours and it's still at 100%.
I found the best way to save battery is to not use 'active/changing/moving" widgets, remove or freeze battery eating apps and underclock.

Stock trega core concept is awesome but it depends on usage. As said in power Management demo, if screen is "on" and some background program is running all cores will be on, which consumed a lot of battery. And try charging your mobile only when charging falls to less than 5%
And remove it when it's fully charged. and I suggest you calibrating your battery really calibrating my battery worked a lot.
I have been vulgarly using my mobile a lot. i never faced any over consumption. Overall I am really happy with the results. of course I'm never disappointed by my battery till today. I love my 4X.

Battery is terrible?

I find that based on my usage habits that I get terrible battery on Android Revolution v12. I always find myself going back to a rooted AT&T Sense build, and I'm able to pull 3 hours of screen-on time with 20% left.
Be sure to use a Wakelock Detector to pinpoint any rogue apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
Also; be careful with those "Juice Defender"-type apps, Android has come a VERY long way in managing RAM, and resources since 2.2 (Froyo).
Report back with any findings

you should use GSAM or wakelock detector to view if something is killing your battery, I have a very VERY good battery life specially since I updated to 2.24 firmware, i guess you don't have root
Check the ss I posted of gsm, and I do have root. Also, what does it say in talk time left in gsm battery monitor when you have full battery?
My battery life was great until i flashed new firmware. i'm on ARHD ROM and it was great on 11.5, with 12 i started using nova launcher and now battery life isn't as good as it was previously. Have you experienced changes with your battery life while using some custom launchers? Or that's rather caused by new firmware/rom/radio/etc?

if i was you I will do the following
-update the **** out of your ONE (firmware and ROM)
but since it would be to laborious, I probably do the following:
1 Factory reset, in android (backup your things becaus it will be erased if you do a factory reset in android, or just dont do it!!!!!!!!) and in recovery (or only in recovery =.=
2 Install a custom rom that is near to a stock rom like ARHD (do it two times with full wipe)
3 with titanium backup remove (after do a backup) the htc bloatware crap that you dont use
4 with titanium backup remove the gapss that you could download from playstore, like youtube, gmail, and specially MAPS
5 GREENIFY all apps that you dont use commonly, you will be able to greenify apps like maps and youtube
6 DONT USE SEEDER OR ENTROPY MODS!!!
7 DONT USE battery saver apps
8 set battery saver option: cpu, vibration, and if you can get use to, mark the data connection option too...
9 Use lagfix app...
10 download Trickster MOD and set you gobernator to MSM-DCVS (this could cause a little lag when you turn on your ONE)
allow to pass one day with you fresh rom, and the following day check how is your battery life
11 if you still have a not soo good battery life, try disabling media storage in apps configuration menu, maybe you have some corrupted media files that dont let media storage to scan all of your media and check if your battery life improve, if so, you should clean your media files, (because let disabled the media storage app have very high side effects)
optional
12 use mods related to a battery life of pimp my rom
13 disable location update from maps, and all location things from configuration (enable when you need them)
14 disable all autosync things that you could do manually, like dunno facebook
15 disable auto update hour and date
+++ disable google now
more optional sh*t
16 when your phone is fully changed in android, turn it off and let it charge until the led change to green, do that one time every two or three days
17 battery stats wipe whit any app of playstore
18 manage your brightness screen manually (its easy and fast in android 4.2.2)
fin...
normally i get 5:30 and 6:00 hours screen on time with a very good use (3g) but one day i get these results
BTW download the app batteryDrain is very good to check how your battery is draining
...And set the option in GSAM that show statistics since last full charge, and dont plug your phone because it could reset the statistics (well if you are reviewing your BLife that could be a problem since stock battery report of sense is almos usless)

New HTC One battery problem

The phone was bought 2 weeks ago and I have battery problems after 2-3 days. So the battery drain is huge, i got 10% (100%-90&) after 6 hours with the phone idle no use at all. What can I do?

Mine (bought on March 2014) with power saver on goes from 100% to 96% in one night (data, Wi-Fi are off). I think that is normal. Battery lasts 2 days normal use (not much screen on).
You can do a Factory reset. Don't install apps and watch if the drain is still there.
1. If the drain disappear install your apps one by one to see witch cause the drain.
2. If the drain is still there send it to service you have a battery problem.

Did you installed some apps that may cause?
Is this brand new or used phone you bought?
need a bit more info.
go to settings - power - usage, and look at the app usage. You should see the typical apps you use a lot, but also look for apps that look out of place. like an app you don't use much, but uses a lot of battery use.
also look at settings - more - data usage, and scroll down. That will show which apps are using the most data, and also if it's foreground or background data. Don't worry too much about foreground data, that is data use happening while you are using the app. Instead, look for apps that are using a lot of background data. if you click on the app, you have an option to disable background data for those apps.
Note some apps don't function properly without background data enabled, like some google services/play store. also make sure the play store options are set to never auto update.
fwiw, I usually get 2.5-3 days between charges with light use.
Sounds like a major issue

If the phone is that brand new, it could be a malfunctioning phone that eats through battery life. I would try taking it back to where ever you bought it from and try getting a new phone. See if that helps. Otherwise you may need to purchase a different battery from a reputable seller in order to get a good amount of battery life.
Cheers!

You could try GSam Battery Monitor (dowload it form Play Store). It gives you a report on which apps drain your battery.

Those should be on the top of your list. You might have a faulty battery then. Have you tried a factory reset?
So, I tried a factory reset but still battery drain. I have another HTC One, with heavier usage and still goes all the day with 30-40% left at night. I will talk to Vodafone to sent the phone to warranty but I think they will say It's because you unlocked the bootloader, put a custom rom, and there is a chance to lose my warranty. Probably I'll buy a battery case

You could Greenify the apps running on the background. That way, they will only be running when you open them and not after you close them. This could help too.
