Q: system diagnostic tools?

Hi,
I just dropped my phone. So far all still working nicely but I'm quite paranoid
Is there any apps or tool to diagnose our nexus one. Just checking if all system devices working properly (GPS, wifi, radio, touch screen, etc)
Cheers,

If it isn't a problem, don't make it into one. Just keep an eye on it, and watch for problems...

I spent half an hour to check my phone.
You would want to know as soon as possible if there's any devices damage, wouldn't you?
Is android system throws some informative message if there is hardware failure?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
There's different apps to test the performance of different things (like network speeds), but I don't know of any all in one app that test things to make sure they are working...?

I used sony ericsson walkman phone before android. They have some secret menu that allows you to check screen, vibrate, keys test, sounds, etc
Is there anything like that on android?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
anyone found one yet?
Old thread, but it came up in a Google search and it doesn't look like anyone's covered this elsewhere in this group.
Dropped my N1 over the weekend, and this morning noticed it's losing network & data regularly, and only connecting 2G, not 3G or 4G. Ugh. Hoping it's just sunspots, but it would be nice to be able to run diagnostics that test the various systems for any failures or out of spec values.
I've unlocked my N1 and am running cyanogenmod 7.2 if that helps.
Check out this link, it might have some useful apps:
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/hardware+test
thanks!
Thanks for the link, I'll take a closer look at those.
The good news (?) is that it turns out T-Mobile had a data network outage for most of the day today. They buried it on their support website behind an east coast outage report for last weekend's heavy weather, so I didn't see it. Big thank you to All Things D for clueing me in, and I'm reinstalling my apps now.

Killswitch - looking for honeycomb beta testers

Hey guys! We are about to release an application for tablets and phones that will allow you to put the device into standby just by closing the case.
A closed beta is available to select XDA members, and we would like to test more on people's XOOMs.
You can find the app thread HERE.
i'll beta test it.
What kind of Case must you use for the Xoom, the portfolio one Moto puts out?
Count me in for this one.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I'm in as well. Sounds fantastic

sure I'll test it
Count me in. I have a xoom and a galaxy tab.

count me too.
I noticed a little bug. As I move back and forth at my desk. The program tries to close my screen. Is there a way to uninstall this?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Guys, developer already wrote that they took 10 (!) testers and others just missed the train, so we shall wait for an open beta test if there will be any (doubt it will)
I got in on the test. I have noticed one problem. If someone stands over you or there is a shadow killswitch will start to engage. It maybe a setting just need to play w/ it more.
Hey everyone, and thanks to all the beta testers! Just an FIY, the app is now out, you can find its thread in the Paid Software Announcement and Discussion forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988126
It has now been tested thorougly on my own Xoom and is working fine! To avoid accidental activations, read the Help and Tips section carefully and set a higher activation delay time.
I have it at 8 seconds and rarely have any issues...
Great, works fine on all my devices
Eer, this expired a month ago!
Hi ... I just purchased this and figured I would be able to spoof a cover by simply covering the sensor (at the opposite location to the camera) with my finger briefly but this doesn't seem to do the trick, but if I cover the front with a pad then it does go off. Is there another sensor I am not seeing?
I also expected it to auto wake when uncovered? If I enable unlock on screen then the volume keys at least seem to wake it up which is a bonus I guess
Sent from my MZ604 using XDA Premium App
The light sensor is quite hard to spot. Its 2.5 cm to the left of the front facing camera.
The autounlock feature is supposed to work like that. Please, read the help file!
Great ... that makes it easier to test ... but I can't get it to wake. It seems the volume key is not even waking it now either.

This functionality is broken by tegra drivers on honeycomb - but works on all other devices...
OK... so are you working to get around this? Or will 3.1 fix it? Or is the function just broken forever? Without it the app is nowhere near as useful :-(

you live and learn ... at any rate you live
Weve been busy prepping for the release of RCB and i havent had time to tinker with killswitch for a few weeks!
I have thought about it though, and there is a workaround. Trouble is, it would mean the tablet wouldnt really sleep.
However... there is a hack i have been using myself, but it would mean root and some nasty errors on many devices.
Atm you can already do something similar yourself using a key remapper. Search the forums for a compatible one.
I promise though i will add some root functions to killswitch.

Bought the App, works great functionally, but I m having an issue with it on my SGS2, its always awake. No Sleep I m on villain rom, and tried uninstalling, rebooting, etc.. removed all widgets, see if it was interfering... same thing, seems like it keeps a persistent data connection open, to accept commands cuts my battery time in half though, or more. Wondering if anyone else experienced that issue? *haven't thrown it on the xoom yet ^^*
Would you guys say it's better than Theft aware? If you all ever heard of TA? seem promising as Avast just bought the company

Check out this app that's available only on JellyBean, specifically for N7

I was just watching the Google IO Keynote live stream (I know, everyone's ideal way to spend a nice afternoon), and I saw this company that was getting featured by Android called Ekata Systems who launched their app Tapestry at the show. It seems to be a synchronized slideshow between JB devices with some snazzy twists that I've never seen any app do. It works best when you're trying it with a friend/family member so there are at least two devices (phone and/or tablet) to highlight the features though. You can check out the interview here, and the app here.
Talk about bleeding edge...only available on Jelly Bean. It uses this new feature called WiFi Direct that creates a local P2P network between 1:N clients. I'm playing with it with my co-workers and it is pretty sweet.
Interesting! I can see how it would be good for other things, like presentations for businesses and in learning environments.
Funny you mention that because that was exactly the first thing I thought about, which is showing a corporate presentation, or teachers using it to share learning material with students. I'm sure with some tweaks it can easily be made to address those use cases.
Couldn't wait to try this out, seems like an excellent idea for showing photos on my phone without transferring (I have been experimenting with file explorers and ftp/smb serviers)
Ideal opportunity came this evening when my (stock) Nexus S received an OTA update to JB.
Unfortunately, although Tapestry installed, I couldn't get past the white screen with logo on. hmrph.
Side note: Nexus S upgraded to JB but existing ICS flash/bbc iplayer etc still works.

Does Nexus S w/ JB support WiFi Direct?
After investigation, no
I hadn't realised Wi-Fi direct was a hardware requirement, as opposed to a software thingy. The app page is not clear on that, and dev's website is non-existent as far as I can see.
sigh

I dug around a little bit, and I think the WiFi chip in Nexus S *can* support WiFi Direct, but the firmware/drivers have not yet included support for it. AFAIK WiFi Direct support is mostly a driver/firmware update. Sorry buddy. Another hook for the man to extract more $$$ from us to upgrade to new devices.
Yeah it seems that way. I've been checking out the xda Nexus S forums too.
Can't really afford to upgrade phone after forking out for N7. I was hoping they would complement each other very well, which is why I didn't buy galaxy nexus. They do work very well together as nifty phone and muscly tablet, both with JB.
It does. I have one. Root and ROM it. I will try this right now. I'll report back. I'll try with my SGSII as well as it does have it.

So I was watching All About Android podcast on TWiT.tv, and guess who they were featuring on this week's episode?!
to ba fair WiFi Direct was already available since ICS but not used it.... until now:
if you want to connect from android device to android device for transmitting media, check this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.budius.WiFiShoot
different from tapstry (that is a presentation app) WiFi Shoot is a direct share app, and works with ICS.
this was developed by yours truly, and I developed it exactly because I noticed there was nothing out there for WiFi Direct
I tested it between Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, Asus TF300 and Galaxy SII (stock ICS) and all worked fine.
The most problematic of those were the Galaxy Nexus that not always want to connect, but between N7-GalaxySII was flawless.
At the moment the app just works for photo and video but I'll be expanding more, if you guys fancy helping spreading the word about it, I'm really looking forward to see the downloads explode on it.

You are awesome! I was really upset that I couldn't use WiFi direct to transfer stuff between my N7 and my evo lte, even though they would connect together. I just downloaded your app and can't wait to see the progress you make as it gets updated!

Looks cool. I'll give it a shot with the N7 and the Evo 3D and let you know.

If anyone is interested in benchmarks, I just gave a try here using a standard TV episode file (170mb).
From network drive (samba) to Galaxy Nexus via AntTek Explorer: 3m:17s (slow, uh?)
From netword drive to my Winwdos PC: 45seconds (better)
From the Galaxy Nexus to a Galaxy SII: 16 seconds (WOW... FAST)
if anyone fancy doing the same kind of test and sharing the result, just to compare and say that I'm not lying because I'm the developer, it would be pretty cool.
WiFi Shoot not working between 2 N7 devices
I will be writing a WiFi Direct app in the near future so I am trying to understand the technologyby using the WiFi Shoot and the WiFi Direct Demo applications but I'm seeing the following behavior.
If I have no WiFi connections to an WiFi Access Point both applications will perform as expected.
If I have an active connection to a WiFi Access Point both applications will bet to the point where an "Invitation to connect" is issued from one device to the other but once "Accept" is selected the status on both devices stays "Available" and no connection is ever made.
I thought WiFi Direct on the Nexus 7 was supposed to work when connected via an Access Point to the outside world...
---------- Post added at 06:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:28 AM ----------
I'm trying to use WiFi Shoot between 2 Nexus 7 devices while connection to the internet via an Access point but it does work. I get the application started on both devices an I see the devices listed on the connect screen. I select a device on one screen and I see the "Invitation to connect" on the other screen but after I select "Accept" nothing happens. Both devices status stays available and no connection is formed. If I turn the connection off to the access point the application works.
Any ideas?
Hi guys,
is anyone with interested in beta test the app?
I started a new thread in the development section asking for Logcats if you're experiencing force close.
Also it's a cut down version of the .apk there to test part of the system.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30012554
any help will be great appreciated.
thanks.
i just got an auto-update request a few days ago for Tapestry, and apparently the app now claims support back to Gingerbread (I doubt using WiFi Direct). Now people who are not as fortunate as us to have Jelly Bean devices, ie the rest of my entire family, they are in luck. This app will come in handy for the upcoming holiday season. Not looking forward to seeing the in-laws though (don't worry my wife doesn't read the boards =)

g shock bluetooth anyone??

I think it requires bluetooth 4.0
Sent from my SGH-T889V using xda app-developers app
Right, the note 2 has 4.0 so was seeing if anyone has tried
I believe it needs the latest stack of BT4.0 + BLE (low energy) in order to work. At least that was my understanding. So we should wait for 4.3 update toward the end of the year (for N2) in order to make it happen, along with Gear compatibility.
Btw, there is a thread about it in General Accessory section of XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572175 - probably start with last pages since that topic started a year ago.
I thought bt4 was low energy anyway, is BLE and even lower energy tech?
There are a few androids with bt4 now but only the s4 is listed
My pebble doesn't seem to impact my phone battery life at all and the watch itself can go up to a week between charges.

Apparently an early "release" of BT4.0 wasn't low power. That is why there is a difference between BT4.0 and BT4.0+BLE. The protocol is different.
Isnt it 400
Too expensive

How much of the various bt protocols and versions is in the physical hw vs the software stack itself? (General question)
CASIO G-Shock with support for all phones
Hello everybody,
I'm the founder of the Android Application called "BlueWatcher". BlueWatcher is the alternative to G-Shock+ Android app to control CASIO Bluetooth watches. A lot of users missed functionality in the official app and I decided to release my own app including the functionality that users proposed me. It's evolving quickly!! Now it supports all kind of notifications (facebook, whatsapp, line... all installed apps), time synchronization, musico control...
You can visit http://www.bluewatcher.es to discover more about BlueWatcher and what BlueWatcher can do for you.
It has been tested my many users in the XDA Developers forum and now it has more than a hundred downloads (~4.70 punctuation at Play Store).
I'm here to help you ([email protected]). Feedback is welcome!
See you and hope you enjoy it!
G Shock+ app works with Note II TESTED
OK, so there's a trick involved.
I had gotten bored with the OS on the phone. So, I installed DN4. Ditto Note 4. (Search the forum for it).
And only after purchasing the G Shock GBA 400 which is the music controlling watch, had I done the research for compatibility. (Stupid me :silly
Anyway, so I was considering to buy the BlueWatcher app (Play Store) in case things don't go right.
So the watch arrived just an hour back (1 PM GMT +5:30) and I thought let's just give it a shot and Voila!!!! It worked! Everything works. The connection happens in 5 seconds. All systems and settings go.
So, here's the thing. If you are willing to let go of the boring Note II OS, then go for DN4 which is a fairly better ROM based on Touchwiz so you could use your SPen as well. And remember to install their latest build. Check their site. The team behind this is called Electron Team. They have a website too. Install the latest TWRP and load the ROM through recovery. Wipe all before use. That's how I did it, anyway.
And hey, G Shock+ and G Mix App work like charm. Hope this helps some folks, at least. I'm going to try and post this to other threads who are looking for this solution for their Note II, at least.
